Y Job habló:

Perezca el día cuando nací y la noche cuando se dijo: Un varón fue concebido.
Perezca el día en que yo nací, y la noche que se dijo: Varón es concebido.
Let the day perish wherein I was born, and the night in which it was said, There is a man child conceived.
“Let the day perish in which I was born, the night which said, ‘There is a boy conceived.’
Sea aquel día oscuridad. No pregunte ʼElohim desde lo alto por él, ni claridad lo ilumine.
Sea aquel día sombrío, y Dios no cuide de él desde arriba, ni claridad sobre él resplandezca.
Let that day be darkness; let not God regard it from above, neither let the light shine upon it.
Let that day be darkness. Don’t let God from above seek for it, neither let the light shine on it.
Que la oscuridad y las tinieblas reclamen ese día para ellas, repose sobre él una nube, llénelo de terror la calina del día.
Aféenlo tinieblas y sombra de muerte; repose sobre él nublado, que lo haga horrible como caliginoso día.
Let darkness and the shadow of death stain it; let a cloud dwell upon it; let the blackness of the day terrify it.
Let darkness and the shadow of death claim it for their own. Let a cloud dwell on it. Let all that makes the day black terrify it.
Que la oscuridad se apodere de aquella noche. No se cuente entre los días del año ni aparezca en el número de los meses.
Ocupe la oscuridad aquella noche; no sea contada entre los días del año, ni venga en el número de los meses.
As for that night, let darkness seize upon it; let it not be joined unto the days of the year, let it not come into the number of the months.
As for that night, let thick darkness seize on it. Let it not rejoice among the days of the year. Let it not come into the number of the months.
Sea esa noche estéril y los gritos de júbilo no penetren en ella.
¡Oh si fuere aquella noche solitaria, que no viniera canción alguna en ella!
Lo, let that night be solitary, let no joyful voice come therein.
Behold, let that night be barren. Let no joyful voice come therein.
Maldíganla los que maldicen en el día, los que se aprestan a excitar al cocodrilo.
Maldíganla los que maldicen al día, los que se aprestan para levantar su llanto.
Let them curse it that curse the day, who are ready to raise up their mourning.
Let them curse it who curse the day, who are ready to rouse up leviathan.
Oscurézcanse las estrellas de su alborada. Espere la luz, y no le venga, ni contemple los destellos de la aurora,

Let the stars of the twilight thereof be dark; let it look for light, but have none; neither let it see the dawning of the day:

porque no cerró las puertas de la matriz donde yo estaba, ni escondió la miseria de mis ojos.
Por cuanto no cerró las puertas del vientre donde yo estaba, ni escondió de mis ojos la miseria.
Because it shut not up the doors of my mother’s womb, nor hid sorrow from mine eyes.
because it didn’t shut up the doors of my mother’s womb, nor did it hide trouble from my eyes.
¿Por qué no morí yo en la matriz o expiré al salir del vientre?
¿Por qué no morí yo desde la matriz, o fuí traspasado en saliendo del vientre?
Why died I not from the womb? why did I not give up the ghost when I came out of the belly?
“Why didn’t I die from the womb? Why didn’t I give up the spirit when my mother bore me?
¿Por qué hallé rodillas que me acogieron y pechos que me amamantaron?
¿Por qué me previnieron las rodillas? ¿y para qué las tetas que mamase?
Why did the knees prevent me? or why the breasts that I should suck?
Why did the knees receive me? Or why the breast, that I should nurse?
Pues ahora yacería tranquilo, dormiría y tendría descanso
Pues que ahora yaciera yo, y reposara; durmiera, y entonces tuviera reposo,
For now should I have lain still and been quiet, I should have slept: then had I been at rest,
For now I should have lain down and been quiet. I should have slept, then I would have been at rest,
con reyes y consejeros de la tierra que reedificaron ruinas para ellos,
Con los reyes y con los consejeros de la tierra, que edifican para sí los desiertos;
With kings and counsellors of the earth, which built desolate places for themselves;
with kings and counselors of the earth, who built up waste places for themselves;
o con príncipes que tuvieron oro, que llenaron de plata sus palacios.
O con los príncipes que poseían el oro, que henchían sus casas de plata.
Or with princes that had gold, who filled their houses with silver:

¡Oh! ¿Por qué no fui escondido como aborto, como los fetos que nunca ven la luz?

Allí dejan de perturbar los perversos. Allí descansan los de agotadas fuerzas.

Allí están el pequeño y el grande, y el esclavo está libre de su amo.

¿Por qué se da luz al desdichado, y vida a los de ánimo amargado,

a los que ansían la muerte y no les llega aunque la busquen más que tesoros escondidos,

a los que se alegran grandemente, y se regocijan cuando hallan la tumba,
Que se alegran sobremanera, y se gozan, cuando hallan el sepulcro?
Which rejoice exceedingly, and are glad, when they can find the grave?

Porque en lugar de mi pan viene mi suspiro, y mis gemidos corren como aguas,
Pues antes que mi pan viene mi suspiro; y mis gemidos corren como aguas.
For my sighing cometh before I eat, and my roarings are poured out like the waters.
For my sighing comes before I eat. My groanings are poured out like water.
porque me cayó lo que temía y el terror que tenía me aconteció.
Porque el temor que me espantaba me ha venido, y hame acontecido lo que temía.
For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me.
For the thing which I fear comes on me, that which I am afraid of comes to me.
¡No tengo paz, ni tranquilidad, ni reposo, sino me vino turbación!
No he tenido paz, no me aseguré, ni me estuve reposado; vínome no obstante turbación.
I was not in safety, neither had I rest, neither was I quiet; yet trouble came.
I am not at ease, neither am I quiet, neither do I have rest; but trouble comes.”
