(H40-26) Gli passerai un giunco per le narici? Gli forerai le mascelle con l’uncino?

Can you put a rope into his nose, or pierce his jaw through with a hook?
(H40-27) Ti rivolgerà egli molte supplicazioni? Ti dirà egli delle parole dolci?
¿Multiplicará él ruegos para contigo? ¿hablaráte él lisonjas?
Will he make many supplications unto thee? will he speak soft words unto thee?
Will he make many petitions to you, or will he speak soft words to you?
(H40-28) Farà egli teco un patto perché tu lo prenda per sempre al tuo servizio?
¿Hará concierto contigo para que lo tomes por siervo perpetuo?
Will he make a covenant with thee? wilt thou take him for a servant for ever?

(H40-29) Scherzerai tu con lui come fosse un uccello? L’attaccherai a un filo per divertir le tue ragazze?
¿Jugarás tú con él como con pájaro, ó lo atarás para tus niñas?
Wilt thou play with him as with a bird? or wilt thou bind him for thy maidens?

(H40-30) Ne trafficheranno forse i pescatori? Lo spartiranno essi fra i negozianti?
¿Harán de él banquete los compañeros? ¿partiránlo entre los mercaderes?

(H40-32) Mettigli un po’ le mani addosso!… Ti ricorderai del combattimento e non ci tornerai!

(H41-4) E non vo’ tacer delle sue membra, della sua gran forza, della bellezza della sua armatura.

(H41-6) Chi gli ha aperti i due battenti della gola? Intorno alla chiostra de’ suoi denti sta il terrore.
¿Quién abrirá las puertas de su rostro? Los órdenes de sus dientes espantan.

(H41-7) Superbe son le file de’ suoi scudi, strettamente uniti come da un sigillo.
La gloria de su vestido son escudos fuertes, cerrados entre sí estrechamente.

(H41-8) Uno tocca l’altro, e tra loro non passa l’aria.
El uno se junta con el otro, que viento no entra entre ellos.

(H41-11) Dalla sua bocca partono vampe, ne scappan fuori scintille di fuoco.
De su boca salen hachas de fuego; centellas de fuego proceden.

(H41-12) Dalle sue narici esce un fumo, come da una pignatta che bolla o da una caldaia.
De sus narices sale humo, como de una olla ó caldero que hierve.
Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, as out of a seething pot or caldron.

(H41-13) L’alito suo accende i carboni, e una fiamma gli erompe dalla gola.
Su aliento enciende los carbones, y de su boca sale llama.
His breath kindleth coals, and a flame goeth out of his mouth.

(H41-14) Nel suo collo risiede la forza, dinanzi a lui salta il terrore.
En su cerviz mora la fortaleza, y espárcese el desaliento delante de él.
In his neck remaineth strength, and sorrow is turned into joy before him.

(H41-15) Compatte sono in lui le parti flosce della carne, gli stanno salde addosso, non si muovono.
Las partes momias de su carne están apretadas: están en él firmes, y no se mueven.

(H41-16) Il suo cuore è duro come il sasso, duro come la macina di sotto.
Su corazón es firme como una piedra, y fuerte como la muela de abajo.

(H41-17) Quando si rizza, tremano i più forti, e dalla paura son fuori di sé.
De su grandeza tienen temor los fuertes, y á causa de su desfallecimiento hacen por purificarse.

(H41-18) Invano lo si attacca con la spada; a nulla valgon lancia, giavellotto, corazza.
Cuando alguno lo alcanzare, ni espada, ni lanza, ni dardo, ni coselete durará.
The sword of him that layeth at him cannot hold: the spear, the dart, nor the habergeon.

(H41-19) Il ferro è per lui come paglia; il rame, come legno tarlato.

(H41-20) La figlia dell’arco non lo mette in fuga; le pietre della fionda si mutano per lui in stoppia.

(H41-21) Stoppia gli par la mazza e si ride del fremer della lancia.
Tiene toda arma por hojarascas, y del blandir de la pica se burla.
Darts are counted as stubble: he laugheth at the shaking of a spear.
Clubs are counted as stubble. He laughs at the rushing of the javelin.
(H41-22) Il suo ventre è armato di punte acute, e lascia come tracce d’erpice sul fango.
Por debajo tiene agudas conchas; Imprime su agudez en el suelo.
Sharp stones are under him: he spreadeth sharp pointed things upon the mire.
His undersides are like sharp potsherds, leaving a trail in the mud like a threshing sledge.
(H41-23) Fa bollire l’abisso come una caldaia, del mare fa come un gran vaso da profumi.
Hace hervir como una olla la profunda mar, y tórnala como una olla de ungüento.
He maketh the deep to boil like a pot: he maketh the sea like a pot of ointment.

(H41-24) Si lascia dietro una scia di luce; l’abisso par coperto di bianca chioma.
En pos de sí hace resplandecer la senda, que parece que la mar es cana.
He maketh a path to shine after him; one would think the deep to be hoary.

(H41-25) Non v’è sulla terra chi lo domi; è stato fatto per non aver paura.
No hay sobre la tierra su semejante, hecho para nada temer.
Upon earth there is not his like, who is made without fear.

(H41-26) Guarda in faccia tutto ciò ch’è eccelso, è re su tutte le belve più superbe”.
