“If someone ventures to talk with you, will you be grieved? But who can withhold himself from speaking?
Voilà que tu en as instruit plusieurs, que tu as fortifié les mains débiles,
He aquí, tú enseñabas á muchos, y las manos flacas corroborabas;
Behold, thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak hands.
Behold, you have instructed many, you have strengthened the weak hands.
que tes paroles ont relevé ceux qui chancelaient, que tu as raffermi les genoux vacillants !...
Al que vacilaba, enderezaban tus palabras, y esforzabas las rodillas que decaían.
Thy words have upholden him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the feeble knees.
Your words have supported him who was falling, you have made the feeble knees firm.
Et maintenant que le malheur vient à toi, tu faiblis ; maintenant qu'il t'atteint, tu perds courage !...
Mas ahora que el mal sobre ti ha venido, te es duro; y cuando ha llegado hasta ti, te turbas.
But now it is come upon thee, and thou faintest; it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled.
But now it has come to you, and you faint. It touches you, and you are troubled.
Ta crainte de Dieu n'était-elle pas ton espoir ? Ta confiance n'était-elle pas dans la pureté de ta vie ?
¿Es este tu temor, tu confianza, tu esperanza, y la perfección de tus caminos?
Is not this thy fear, thy confidence, thy hope, and the uprightness of thy ways?
Isn’t your piety your confidence? Isn’t the integrity of your ways your hope?
Cherche dans ton souvenir : quel est l'innocent qui a péri ? En quel lieu du monde les justes ont-ils été exterminés ?
Recapacita ahora, ¿quién que fuera inocente se perdiera? y ¿en dónde los rectos fueron cortados?
Remember, I pray thee, who ever perished, being innocent? or where were the righteous cut off?

Pour moi, je l'ai vu, ceux qui labourent l'iniquité et qui sèment l'injustice, en moissonnent les fruits.

Une parole est arrivée furtivement jusqu'à moi, et mon oreille en a saisi le léger murmure.

Il se dressa, — je ne reconnus pas son visage, — comme un spectre sous mes yeux. Un grand silence, puis j'entendis une voix :

It stood still, but I could not discern the form thereof: an image was before mine eyes, there was silence, and I heard a voice, saying,

L'homme sera-t-il juste vis-à-vis de Dieu ? Un mortel sera-t-il pur en face de son Créateur ?
¿Si será el hombre más justo que Dios? ¿si será el varón más limpio que el que lo hizo?
Shall mortal man be more just than God? shall a man be more pure than his maker?
‘Shall mortal man be more just than God? Shall a man be more pure than his Maker?
Voici qu'il ne se fie pas à ses serviteurs, et qu'il découvre des fautes dans ses anges :
He aquí que en sus siervos no confía, y notó necedad en sus ángeles;
Behold, he put no trust in his servants; and his angels he charged with folly:
Behold, he puts no trust in his servants. He charges his angels with error.
combien plus en ceux qui habitent des maisons de boue, qui ont leurs fondements dans la poussière, qui seront réduits en poudre, comme par la teigne !
¡Cuánto más en los que habitan en casas de lodo, cuyo fundamento está en el polvo, y que serán quebrantados de la polilla!
How much less in them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, which are crushed before the moth?

Du matin au soir ils sont exterminés, et sans que nul y prenne garde, ils périssent pour jamais.

La corde de leur tente est coupée, ils meurent avant d'avoir connu la sagesse.
¿Su hermosura, no se pierde con ellos mismos? Mueren, y sin sabiduría.
Doth not their excellency which is in them go away? they die, even without wisdom.
