AHORA pues da voces, si habrá quien te responda; ¿y á cuál de los santos te volverás?

Car le dépit tue l'insensé, L'irritation fait mourir l'ignorant.
Es cierto que al necio la ira lo mata, y al codicioso consume la envidia.
For wrath killeth the foolish man, and envy slayeth the silly one.
For resentment kills the foolish man, and jealousy kills the simple.
J'ai vu un insensé étendre au loin ses racines, Et soudain j'ai vu sa maison maudite.
Yo he visto al necio que echaba raíces, y en la misma hora maldije su habitación.
I have seen the foolish taking root: but suddenly I cursed his habitation.

Ses fils sont éloignés du salut, On les foule au tribunal et personne ne les délivre.
Sus hijos estarán lejos de la salud, y en la puerta serán quebrantados, y no habrá quien los libre.

Sa récolte, un affamé la mange, Il la prend même entre les épines, Et le filet guette ses biens.
Su mies comerán los hambrientos, y sacaránla de entre las espinas, y los sedientos beberán su hacienda.
Whose harvest the hungry eateth up, and taketh it even out of the thorns, and the robber swalloweth up their substance.

Car le malheur ne sort pas de la poussière, Et la souffrance ne germe pas de la terre ;
Porque la iniquidad no sale del polvo, ni la molestia brota de la tierra.

Mais l'homme naît pour la souffrance, Comme l'étincelle pour s'élever en l'air.
Empero como las centellas se levantan para volar por el aire, así el hombre nace para la aflicción.

Pour moi, je m'adresserais au Tout-Puissant ; J'exposerais ma cause à Dieu :

Il fait des choses grandes, insondables ; Des merveilles qu'on ne saurait compter ;
El cual hace cosas grandes é inescrutables, y maravillas que no tienen cuento:
Which doeth great things and unsearchable; marvellous things without number:
who does great things that can’t be fathomed, marvelous things without number;
Il répand la pluie sur la terre, Il envoie les eaux sur la campagne ;
Que da la lluvia sobre la haz de la tierra, y envía las aguas por los campos:
Who giveth rain upon the earth, and sendeth waters upon the fields:
who gives rain on the earth, and sends waters on the fields;
Il relève, ceux qui sont abaissés, Et les affligés arrivent à la délivrance.
Que pone los humildes en altura, y los enlutados son levantados á salud:
To set up on high those that be low; that those which mourn may be exalted to safety.
so that he sets up on high those who are low, those who mourn are exalted to safety.
Il anéantit les projets des fourbes, Et leurs mains ne font rien de sensé.
Que frustra los pensamientos de los astutos, para que sus manos no hagan nada:
He disappointeth the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot perform their enterprise.
He frustrates the plans of the crafty, so that their hands can’t perform their enterprise.
Il prend les habiles dans leur ruse, Et le conseil des fourbes est déjoué.
Que prende á los sabios en la astucia de ellos, y el consejo de los perversos es entontecido;
He taketh the wise in their own craftiness: and the counsel of the froward is carried headlong.

De jour ils se heurtent contre les ténèbres, Ils tâtonnent en plein midi comme de nuit.
De día se topan con tinieblas, y en mitad del día andan á tientas como de noche:
They meet with darkness in the daytime, and grope in the noonday as in the night.
They meet with darkness in the day time, and grope at noonday as in the night.
Ainsi Dieu délivre le pauvre de l'épée de leur bouche Et de la main du puissant ;
Y libra de la espada al pobre, de la boca de los impíos, y de la mano violenta;
But he saveth the poor from the sword, from their mouth, and from the hand of the mighty.
But he saves from the sword of their mouth, even the needy from the hand of the mighty.
Le faible reprend confiance, Et l'iniquité a la bouche fermée.
Pues es esperanza al menesteroso, y la iniquidad cerrará su boca.
So the poor hath hope, and iniquity stoppeth her mouth.
So the poor has hope, and injustice shuts her mouth.
Voici, heureux est l'homme que Dieu châtie ! Ne méprise pas la correction du Puissant !
He aquí, bienaventurado es el hombre á quien Dios castiga: por tanto no menosprecies la corrección del Todopoderoso.
Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty:
“Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects. Therefore do not despise the chastening of the Almighty.
Car il fait la blessure, et il la panse ; Il frappe et ses mains guérissent.
Porque él es el que hace la llaga, y él la vendará: él hiere, y sus manos curan.
For he maketh sore, and bindeth up: he woundeth, and his hands make whole.
For he wounds and binds up. He injures and his hands make whole.
Dans six afflictions il te délivrera, A la septième encore le mal ne te touchera pas.
En seis tribulaciones te librará, y en la séptima no te tocará el mal.
He shall deliver thee in six troubles: yea, in seven there shall no evil touch thee.
He will deliver you in six troubles; yes, in seven no evil will touch you.
Dans la famine il te rachètera de la mort ; Dans la guerre, de la puissance de l'épée.
En el hambre te redimirá de la muerte, y en la guerra de las manos de la espada.
In famine he shall redeem thee from death: and in war from the power of the sword.
In famine he will redeem you from death; in war, from the power of the sword.
Tu seras à l'abri du fouet de la langue, Tu ne craindras pas la dévastation quand elle arrivera ;
Del azote de la lengua serás encubierto; ni temerás de la destrucción cuando viniere.
Thou shalt be hid from the scourge of the tongue: neither shalt thou be afraid of destruction when it cometh.
You will be hidden from the scourge of the tongue, neither will you be afraid of destruction when it comes.
Tu te riras de la dévastation et de la disette, Tu n'auras pas peur des bêtes sauvages.
De la destrucción y del hambre te reirás, y no temerás de las bestias del campo:
At destruction and famine thou shalt laugh: neither shalt thou be afraid of the beasts of the earth.
You will laugh at destruction and famine, neither will you be afraid of the animals of the earth.
Car tu as un pacte avec les pierres des champs, Et les bêtes des champs sont en paix avec toi.
Pues aun con las piedras del campo tendrás tu concierto, y las bestias del campo te serán pacíficas.
For thou shalt be in league with the stones of the field: and the beasts of the field shall be at peace with thee.
For you will be allied with the stones of the field. The animals of the field will be at peace with you.
Tu verras ta tente en sûreté ; Et quand tu visiteras tes pâturages, rien n'y manquera.
Y sabrás que hay paz en tu tienda; y visitarás tu morada, y no pecarás.
And thou shalt know that thy tabernacle shall be in peace; and thou shalt visit thy habitation, and shalt not sin.
You will know that your tent is in peace. You will visit your fold, and will miss nothing.
Tu verras ta postérité nombreuse, Et tes descendants comme l'herbe de la terre ;
Asimismo echarás de ver que tu simiente es mucha, y tu prole como la hierba de la tierra.
Thou shalt know also that thy seed shall be great, and thine offspring as the grass of the earth.
You will know also that your offspring will be great, your offspring as the grass of the earth.
Tu entreras mûr dans le sépulcre, Comme une gerbe qu'on enlève en sa saison.
Y vendrás en la vejez á la sepultura, como el montón de trigo que se coge á su tiempo.
Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age, like as a shock of corn cometh in in his season.
You will come to your grave in a full age, like a shock of grain comes in its season.
Voilà ce que nous avons trouvé dans nos méditations. Il en est ainsi ; Ecoute-le, et fais-en ton profit !
He aquí lo que hemos inquirido, lo cual es así: óyelo, y juzga tú para contigo.
Lo this, we have searched it, so it is; hear it, and know thou it for thy good.
Behold, we have researched it. It is so. Hear it, and know it for your good.”
