so würde es schwerer sein denn Sand am Meer; darum ist's umsonst, was ich rede.
Porque pesaría aquél más que la arena del mar: y por tanto mis palabras son cortadas.

Denn die Pfeile des Allmachtigen stecken in mir, derselben Grimm sauft aus meinen Geist, und die Schrecknisse Gottes sind auf mich gerichtet.

Das Wild schreiet nicht, wenn es Gras hat; der Ochse bloket nicht, wenn er sein Futter hat.
¿Acaso gime el asno montés junto á la hierba? ¿muge el buey junto á su pasto?
Doth the wild ass bray when he hath grass? or loweth the ox over his fodder?
Does the wild donkey bray when he has grass? Or does the ox low over his fodder?
Kann man auch essen, das ungesalzen ist? Oder wer mag kosten das Weite um den Dotter?

So hatte ich noch Trost und wollte bitten in meiner Krankheit, daß er nur nicht schonete. Habe ich doch nicht verleugnet die Rede des Heiligen.

Then should I yet have comfort; yea, I would harden myself in sorrow: let him not spare; for I have not concealed the words of the Holy One.

Was ist meine Kraft, daß ich moge beharren? und welch ist mein Ende, daß meine Seele geduldig sollte sein?
¿Cuál es mi fortaleza para esperar aún? ¿y cuál mi fin para dilatar mi vida?
What is my strength, that I should hope? and what is mine end, that I should prolong my life?

Ist doch meine Kraft nicht steinern, so ist mein Fleisch nicht ehern.

Wer Barmherzigkeit seinem Nachsten weigert, der verlasset des Allmachtigen Furcht.
El atribulado es consolado de su compañero: mas hase abandonado el temor del Omnipotente.
To him that is afflicted pity should be shewed from his friend; but he forsaketh the fear of the Almighty.

My brethren have dealt deceitfully as a brook, and as the stream of brooks they pass away;

Doch, welche sich vor dem Reif scheuen, uber die wird der Schnee fallen.
Que están escondidas por la helada, y encubiertas con nieve;
Which are blackish by reason of the ice, and wherein the snow is hid:

Zur Zeit, wenn sie die Hitze drucken wird, werden sie verschmachten, und wenn es heili wird, werden sie vergehen von ihrer Statte.
Que al tiempo del calor son deshechas, y en calentándose, desaparecen de su lugar;
What time they wax warm, they vanish: when it is hot, they are consumed out of their place.

Ihr Weg gehet beiseit aus; sie treten auf das Ungebahnte und werden umkommen.
Apártanse de la senda de su rumbo, van menguando y piérdense.
The paths of their way are turned aside; they go to nothing, and perish.

Sie sehen auf die Wege Themas; auf die Pfade Reicharabias warten sie.

Aber sie werden zuschanden werden, wenn's am sichersten ist, und sich schamen müssen, wenn sie dahin kommen.
Mas fueron avergonzados por su esperanza; porque vinieron hasta ellas, y halláronse confusos.
They were confounded because they had hoped; they came thither, and were ashamed.

Denn ihr seid nun zu mir kommen; und weil ihr Jammer sehet, furchtet ihr euch.
Ahora ciertamente como ellas sois vosotros: que habéis visto el tormento, y teméis.

Habe ich auch gesagt: Bringet her und von eurem Vermogen schenket mir
¿Os he dicho yo: Traedme, y pagad por mí de vuestra hacienda;
Did I say, Bring unto me? or, Give a reward for me of your substance?
Did I ever say, ‘Give to me’? or, ‘Offer a present for me from your substance’?
und errettet mich aus der Hand des Feindes und erloset mich von der Hand der Tyrannen?
Y libradme de la mano del opresor, y redimidme del poder de los violentos?
Or, Deliver me from the enemy’s hand? or, Redeem me from the hand of the mighty?
or, ‘Deliver me from the adversary’s hand’? or, ‘Redeem me from the hand of the oppressors’?
Lehret mich, ich will schweigen; und was ich nicht weiß, das unterweiset mich.
Enseñadme, y yo callaré: y hacedme entender en qué he errado.
Teach me, and I will hold my tongue: and cause me to understand wherein I have erred.

Warum tadelt ihr die rechte Rede? Wer ist unter euch, der sie strafen konnte?
¡Cuán fuertes son las palabras de rectitud! Mas ¿qué reprende el que reprende de vosotros?
How forcible are right words! but what doth your arguing reprove?
How forcible are words of uprightness! But your reproof, what does it reprove?
Ihr erdenket Worte, daß ihr nur strafet, und daß ihr nur paustet Worte, die mich verzagt machen sollen.
¿Pensáis censurar palabras, y los discursos de un desesperado, que son como el viento?
Do ye imagine to reprove words, and the speeches of one that is desperate, which are as wind?
Do you intend to reprove words, since the speeches of one who is desperate are as wind?
Ihr fallet uber einen armen Waisen und grabet eurem Nachsten Gruben.
También os arrojáis sobre el huérfano, y hacéis hoyo delante de vuestro amigo.
Yea, ye overwhelm the fatherless, and ye dig a pit for your friend.
Yes, you would even cast lots for the fatherless, and make merchandise of your friend.
Doch weil ihr habt angehoben, sehet auf mich, ob ich vor euch mit Lügen bestehen werde.
Ahora pues, si queréis, mirad en mí, y ved si miento delante de vosotros.
Now therefore be content, look upon me; for it is evident unto you if I lie.

Antwortet, was recht ist; meine Antwort wird noch recht bleiben.
Tornad ahora, y no haya iniquidad; volved aún á considerar mi justicia en esto.
Return, I pray you, let it not be iniquity; yea, return again, my righteousness is in it.
Please return. Let there be no injustice. Yes, return again. My cause is righteous.

¿Hay iniquidad en mi lengua? ¿no puede mi paladar discernir las cosas depravadas?
Is there iniquity in my tongue? cannot my taste discern perverse things?
Is there injustice on my tongue? Can’t my taste discern mischievous things?
