¡Oh, si se pesara mi angustia, y se pusiera igualmente en balanza juntamente con mi ruina!
¡Oh si pesasen al justo mi queja y mi tormento, y se alzasen igualmente en balanza!
Oh that my grief were throughly weighed, and my calamity laid in the balances together!
“Oh that my anguish were weighed, and all my calamity laid in the balances!
¡Pesarían ahora más que la arena del mar! Por eso mis palabras fueron precipitadas,
Porque pesaría aquél más que la arena del mar: y por tanto mis palabras son cortadas.
For now it would be heavier than the sand of the sea: therefore my words are swallowed up.

porque en mí están clavadas las flechas de ʼEL-Shadday. Mi espíritu sorbe su veneno, y terrores de ʼElohim me combaten.

For the arrows of the Almighty are within me, the poison whereof drinketh up my spirit: the terrors of God do set themselves in array against me.

Doth the wild ass bray when he hath grass? or loweth the ox over his fodder?
Does the wild donkey bray when he has grass? Or does the ox low over his fodder?
¿Se comerá lo insípido sin sal? ¿Hay sabor en la clara del huevo?

Can that which is unsavoury be eaten without salt? or is there any taste in the white of an egg?

Las cosas que mi alma rehusaba tocar son ahora mi alimento nauseabundo.
Las cosas que mi alma no quería tocar, por los dolores son mi comida.
The things that my soul refused to touch are as my sorrowful meat.
My soul refuses to touch them. They are as loathsome food to me.
¡Quién me diera obtener mi petición, y que ʼElohim me otorgue lo que tanto anhelo!
¡Quién me diera que viniese mi petición, y que Dios me otorgase lo que espero;
Oh that I might have my request; and that God would grant me the thing that I long for!

¡Que ʼElohim se digne aplastarme, que suelte su mano y acabe conmigo!
Y que pluguiera á Dios quebrantarme; que soltara su mano, y me deshiciera!
Even that it would please God to destroy me; that he would let loose his hand, and cut me off!

Eso sería mi consuelo, y aun en medio de mi dolor que no da tregua, saltaría de gozo, porque no negué las Palabras del Santo.
Y sería aún mi consuelo, si me asaltase con dolor sin dar más tregua, que yo no he escondido las palabras del Santo.
Then should I yet have comfort; yea, I would harden myself in sorrow: let him not spare; for I have not concealed the words of the Holy One.
Let it still be my consolation, yes, let me exult in pain that doesn’t spare, that I have not denied the words of the Holy One.
¿Cuál es mi fuerza para seguir esperando? ¿Cuál es mi propósito para que tenga aún paciencia?
¿Cuál es mi fortaleza para esperar aún? ¿y cuál mi fin para dilatar mi vida?
What is my strength, that I should hope? and what is mine end, that I should prolong my life?
What is my strength, that I should wait? What is my end, that I should be patient?
¿Es mi fortaleza como la de las piedras, o mi cuerpo es de bronce?
¿Es mi fortaleza la de las piedras? ¿ó mi carne, es de acero?
Is my strength the strength of stones? or is my flesh of brass?

¿Puedo sostenerme sobre nada? ¿No fue todo auxilio alejado de mí?
¿No me ayudo cuanto puedo, y el poder me falta del todo?
Is not my help in me? and is wisdom driven quite from me?
Isn’t it that I have no help in me, that wisdom is driven away from me?
Para el hombre desconsolado debe haber bondad de su amigo, a fin de que no abandone el temor a ʼEL-Shadday.
El atribulado es consolado de su compañero: mas hase abandonado el temor del Omnipotente.
To him that is afflicted pity should be shewed from his friend; but he forsaketh the fear of the Almighty.
“To him who is ready to faint, kindness should be shown from his friend; even to him who forsakes the fear of the Almighty.
Mis hermanos me traicionaron como un torrente. Pasan como corrientes impetuosas
Mis hermanos han mentido cual arroyo: pasáronse como corrientes impetuosas,
My brethren have dealt deceitfully as a brook, and as the stream of brooks they pass away;
My brothers have dealt deceitfully as a brook, as the channel of brooks that pass away;
que van turbias a causa del deshielo, y la nieve que se deshace en ellas.
Que están escondidas por la helada, y encubiertas con nieve;
Which are blackish by reason of the ice, and wherein the snow is hid:
which are black by reason of the ice, in which the snow hides itself.
En el tiempo del calor se desvanecen. Al calentarse desaparecen, se extinguen de su lugar.
Que al tiempo del calor son deshechas, y en calentándose, desaparecen de su lugar;
What time they wax warm, they vanish: when it is hot, they are consumed out of their place.
In the dry season, they vanish. When it is hot, they are consumed out of their place.
Se apartan de la senda de su rumbo, van menguando y se pierden.
Apártanse de la senda de su rumbo, van menguando y piérdense.
The paths of their way are turned aside; they go to nothing, and perish.
The caravans that travel beside them turn away. They go up into the waste, and perish.
Las caravanas de Temán fijan su mirada en ellas, los viajeros de Sabá tienen su esperanza en ellas,
Miraron los caminantes de Temán, los caminantes de Saba esperaron en ellas:
The troops of Tema looked, the companies of Sheba waited for them.
The caravans of Tema looked. The companies of Sheba waited for them.
pero son avergonzados en su esperanza, pues llegan hasta ellas y quedan defraudados.
Mas fueron avergonzados por su esperanza; porque vinieron hasta ellas, y halláronse confusos.
They were confounded because they had hoped; they came thither, and were ashamed.
They were distressed because they were confident. They came there, and were confounded.
En verdad ustedes son ahora como ellos. Ven un terror y temen.
Ahora ciertamente como ellas sois vosotros: que habéis visto el tormento, y teméis.
For now ye are nothing; ye see my casting down, and are afraid.
For now you are nothing. You see a terror, and are afraid.
¿Yo les dije: Tráiganme algo? ¿O: Paguen de su hacienda por mí?
¿Os he dicho yo: Traedme, y pagad por mí de vuestra hacienda;
Did I say, Bring unto me? or, Give a reward for me of your substance?
Did I ever say, ‘Give to me’? or, ‘Offer a present for me from your substance’?
¿O: Líbrenme de la mano del enemigo? ¿O: Rescátenme del poder del opresor?
Y libradme de la mano del opresor, y redimidme del poder de los violentos?
Or, Deliver me from the enemy’s hand? or, Redeem me from the hand of the mighty?
or, ‘Deliver me from the adversary’s hand’? or, ‘Redeem me from the hand of the oppressors’?
Instrúyeme y me callaré. Hazme entender en qué erré.
Enseñadme, y yo callaré: y hacedme entender en qué he errado.
Teach me, and I will hold my tongue: and cause me to understand wherein I have erred.
“Teach me, and I will hold my peace. Cause me to understand my error.
¡Cuán dolorosas son las palabras honestas! ¿Pero qué prueba su reprensión?
¡Cuán fuertes son las palabras de rectitud! Mas ¿qué reprende el que reprende de vosotros?
How forcible are right words! but what doth your arguing reprove?
How forcible are words of uprightness! But your reproof, what does it reprove?
¿Piensan ustedes censurar palabras y los dichos de un desesperado que son como el viento?
¿Pensáis censurar palabras, y los discursos de un desesperado, que son como el viento?
Do ye imagine to reprove words, and the speeches of one that is desperate, which are as wind?
Do you intend to reprove words, since the speeches of one who is desperate are as wind?
Ustedes aun echan suertes sobre los huérfanos y regatean con su amigo.
También os arrojáis sobre el huérfano, y hacéis hoyo delante de vuestro amigo.
Yea, ye overwhelm the fatherless, and ye dig a pit for your friend.
Yes, you would even cast lots for the fatherless, and make merchandise of your friend.
Ahora pues, dígnense mirarme y opinen si miento delante de ustedes.
Ahora pues, si queréis, mirad en mí, y ved si miento delante de vosotros.
Now therefore be content, look upon me; for it is evident unto you if I lie.
Now therefore be pleased to look at me, for surely I will not lie to your face.
Les ruego que desistan. Que no haya iniquidad. Sí, que mi justicia aún permanezca.
Tornad ahora, y no haya iniquidad; volved aún á considerar mi justicia en esto.
Return, I pray you, let it not be iniquity; yea, return again, my righteousness is in it.
Please return. Let there be no injustice. Yes, return again. My cause is righteous.
¿Hay iniquidad en mi lengua? ¿Mi paladar no distingue lo destructivo?
¿Hay iniquidad en mi lengua? ¿no puede mi paladar discernir las cosas depravadas?
Is there iniquity in my tongue? cannot my taste discern perverse things?
Is there injustice on my tongue? Can’t my taste discern mischievous things?
