CIERTAMENTE tiempo limitado tiene el hombre sobre la tierra, y sus días son como los días del jornalero.
Is there not an appointed time to man upon earth? are not his days also like the days of an hireling?

Como o servo que anseia pelas sombras da noite e, como o assalariado que olha o seu pagamento,

assim me deram como herança, meses de miséria e noites de aflição.
Así poseo yo meses de vanidad, y noches de trabajo me dieron por cuenta.
So am I made to possess months of vanity, and wearisome nights are appointed to me.

Quando me deito, digo a mim mesmo: quando me levantarei? e quando a noite se vai? Estou cansado de me revirar na cama até o amanhecer.

When I lie down, I say, When shall I arise, and the night be gone? and I am full of tossings to and fro unto the dawning of the day.

Minha carne está coberta de vermes e crostas de sujeira; as feridas da minha pele se ressecam e voltam a se abrir.

Os olhos de Deus, que me veem, não mais me verão; Seus olhos estarão sobre mim, mas eu não mais existirei.

Assim como a nuvem é consumida e desaparece, quem vai para o Sheol nunca mais voltará.
La nube se consume, y se va: así el que desciende al sepulcro no subirá;
As the cloud is consumed and vanisheth away: so he that goeth down to the grave shall come up no more.

Não retornará mais para sua casa, nem seu lugar o conhecerá novamente.

Portanto, não conterei minha boca; falarei da angústia do meu espírito; queixarei no mais amargo da minha alma.

Am I a sea, or a whale, that thou settest a watch over me?

Quando digo: 'Minha cama me confortará e meu leito facilitará a minha queixa';

When I say, My bed shall comfort me, my couch shall ease my complaint;

então, Tu me assustas com sonhos e me aterrorizas com visões.
Entonces me quebrantarás con sueños, y me turbarás con visiones.
Then thou scarest me with dreams, and terrifiest me through visions:

Prefiro ser estrangulado e morrer que preservar os meus ossos.

A minha vida é odiosa; eu não desejaria estar sempre vivo. Deixa-me sozinho porque meus dias são inúteis.
Aburríme: no he de vivir yo para siempre; déjame, pues que mis días son vanidad.
I loathe it; I would not live alway: let me alone; for my days are vanity.
I loathe my life. I don’t want to live forever. Leave me alone, for my days are but a breath.
Que é o homem para que atentes para ele e ponhas sobre ele Teus pensamentos,
¿Qué es el hombre, para que lo engrandezcas, y que pongas sobre él tu corazón,
What is man, that thou shouldest magnify him? and that thou shouldest set thine heart upon him?

para que o observes toda manhã e o testes a cada momento?
Y lo visites todas las mañanas, y todos los momentos lo pruebes?
And that thou shouldest visit him every morning, and try him every moment?

Quanto tempo vai demorar antes que olhes para mim, antes que me deixes sozinho o suficiente para que eu possa respirar um pouco?
¿Hasta cuándo no me dejarás, ni me soltarás hasta que trague mi saliva?
How long wilt thou not depart from me, nor let me alone till I swallow down my spittle?
How long will you not look away from me, nor leave me alone until I swallow down my spittle?
Mesmo que eu peque contra Ti, o que isto Te seria, Tu, que guardas os homens? Por que fizeste de mim um alvo para que eu seja uma carga para Ti?
Pequé, ¿qué te haré, oh Guarda de los hombres? ¿por qué me has puesto contrario á ti, y que á mí mismo sea pesado?
I have sinned; what shall I do unto thee, O thou preserver of men? why hast thou set me as a mark against thee, so that I am a burden to myself?
If I have sinned, what do I do to you, you watcher of men? Why have you set me as a mark for you, so that I am a burden to myself?
Por que não perdoas minhas transgressões e levas embora minhas iniquidades? Por isso, eu me deitarei no pó; Tu me buscarás, porém não mais existirei".
¿Y por qué no quitas mi rebelión, y perdonas mi iniquidad? porque ahora dormiré en el polvo, y si me buscares de mañana, ya no seré.
And why dost thou not pardon my transgression, and take away mine iniquity? for now shall I sleep in the dust; and thou shalt seek me in the morning, but I shall not be.
Why do you not pardon my disobedience, and take away my iniquity? For now will I lie down in the dust. You will seek me diligently, but I will not be.”
