Assurément, je sais qu'il en est ainsi ; Et comment un homme serait-il juste devant Dieu ?
Ciertamente yo conozco que es así: ¿y cómo se justificará el hombre con Dios?
I know it is so of a truth: but how should man be just with God?
“Truly I know that it is so, but how can man be just with God?
S'il lui plaisait de plaider contre Dieu, Il ne lui répondrait pas sur un point entre mille.
Si quisiere contender con él, no le podrá responder á una cosa de mil.
If he will contend with him, he cannot answer him one of a thousand.
If he is pleased to contend with him, he can’t answer him one time in a thousand.
Il est sage en son entendement et puissant en force ; Qui l'a bravé et s'en est retiré sain et sauf ?
El es sabio de corazón, y poderoso en fortaleza: ¿quién se endureció contra él, y quedó en paz?
He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath hardened himself against him, and hath prospered?
God is wise in heart, and mighty in strength. Who has hardened himself against him and prospered?
Il bouleverse les montagnes à l'improviste ; Il les renverse dans sa colère.
Que arranca los montes con su furor, y no conocen quién los trastornó:
Which removeth the mountains, and they know not: which overturneth them in his anger.
He removes the mountains, and they don’t know it, when he overturns them in his anger.
Il ébranle la terre sur ses bases, Et ses colonnes tremblent.
Que remueve la tierra de su lugar, y hace temblar sus columnas:
Which shaketh the earth out of her place, and the pillars thereof tremble.
He shakes the earth out of its place. Its pillars tremble.
Il parle au soleil, et il ne se lève pas, Il met un sceau sur les étoiles.
Que manda al sol, y no sale; y sella las estrellas:
Which commandeth the sun, and it riseth not; and sealeth up the stars.
He commands the sun and it doesn’t rise, and seals up the stars.
Il étend les cieux, lui seul, Il marche sur les hauteurs de la mer.
El que extiende solo los cielos, y anda sobre las alturas de la mar:
Which alone spreadeth out the heavens, and treadeth upon the waves of the sea.
He alone stretches out the heavens, and treads on the waves of the sea.
Il crée la Grande Ourse, Orion, les Pléiades, Et les régions reculées du Midi.
El que hizo el Arcturo, y el Orión, y las Pléyadas, y los lugares secretos del mediodía:
Which maketh Arcturus, Orion, and Pleiades, and the chambers of the south.
He makes the Bear, Orion, and the Pleiades, and the rooms of the south.
Il fait des merveilles insondables, Des prodiges sans nombre.
El que hace cosas grandes é incomprensibles, y maravillosas, sin número.
Which doeth great things past finding out; yea, and wonders without number.
He does great things past finding out; yes, marvelous things without number.
Voici, il passe devant moi sans que je le voie ; Près de moi, sans que je l'aperçoive.
He aquí que él pasará delante de mí, y yo no lo veré; y pasará, y no lo entenderé.
Lo, he goeth by me, and I see him not: he passeth on also, but I perceive him not.
Behold, he goes by me, and I don’t see him. He passes on also, but I don’t perceive him.
Voici, il emporte une proie ; qui le fera revenir ? Qui lui dira : Que fais-tu ?
He aquí, arrebatará; ¿quién le hará restituir? ¿Quién le dirá, Qué haces?
Behold, he taketh away, who can hinder him? who will say unto him, What doest thou?
Behold, he snatches away. Who can hinder him? Who will ask him, ‘What are you doing?’
Dieu ne retire pas sa colère ; Sous lui se sont courbés les auxiliaires de Rahab ;
Dios no tornará atrás su ira, y debajo de él se encorvan los que ayudan á los soberbios.
If God will not withdraw his anger, the proud helpers do stoop under him.
“God will not withdraw his anger. The helpers of Rahab stoop under him.
Et moi, j'oserais lui répondre ? Je choisirais mes paroles en sa présence ?
¿Cuánto menos le responderé yo, y hablaré con él palabras estudiadas?
How much less shall I answer him, and choose out my words to reason with him?
How much less will I answer him, and choose my words to argue with him?
Si même j'avais raison, je ne répondrais pas, J'implorerais la clémence de mon juge.
Que aunque fuese yo justo, no responderé; antes habré de rogar á mi juez.
Whom, though I were righteous, yet would I not answer, but I would make supplication to my judge.

Si même je l'appelais et qu'il me répondit, Je ne croirais pas qu'il voulût entendre ma voix,
Que si yo le invocase, y él me respondiese, aun no creeré que haya escuchado mi voz.
If I had called, and he had answered me; yet would I not believe that he had hearkened unto my voice.
If I had called, and he had answered me, yet I wouldn’t believe that he listened to my voice.
Lui qui fond sur moi dans un tourbillon, Et multiplie mes blessures sans cause ;
Porque me ha quebrado con tempestad, y ha aumentado mis heridas sin causa.
For he breaketh me with a tempest, and multiplieth my wounds without cause.

Qui ne me laisse pas reprendre haleine, Tant il me rassasie d'amertume !
No me ha concedido que tome mi aliento; mas hame hartado de amarguras.
He will not suffer me to take my breath, but filleth me with bitterness.
He will not allow me to catch my breath, but fills me with bitterness.
S'il s'agit de force, me voici ! S'il s'agit de droit, qui m'assignera ?
Si habláremos de su potencia, fuerte por cierto es; si de juicio, ¿quién me emplazará?
If I speak of strength, lo, he is strong: and if of judgment, who shall set me a time to plead?
If it is a matter of strength, behold, he is mighty! If of justice, ‘Who,’ says he, ‘will summon me?’
Si même j'avais raison, ma bouche me condamnerait ; Si même j'étais innocent, il me ferait passer pour coupable.
Si yo me justificare, me condenará mi boca; si me dijere perfecto, esto me hará inicuo.
If I justify myself, mine own mouth shall condemn me: if I say, I am perfect, it shall also prove me perverse.
Though I am righteous, my own mouth will condemn me. Though I am blameless, it will prove me perverse.
Innocent, je le suis ! Je ne fais nul cas de ma vie ; Je méprise l'existence.
Bien que yo fuese íntegro, no conozco mi alma: reprocharé mi vida.
Though I were perfect, yet would I not know my soul: I would despise my life.
I am blameless. I don’t respect myself. I despise my life.
C'est tout un ! C'est pourquoi je le dis : Il fait périr, également l'innocent et le coupable.
Una cosa resta que yo diga: Al perfecto y al impío él los consume.
This is one thing, therefore I said it, He destroyeth the perfect and the wicked.
“It is all the same. Therefore I say he destroys the blameless and the wicked.
Si un fléau produit une mortalité soudaine, Il se rit du désespoir, des innocents.
Si azote mata de presto, ríese de la prueba de los inocentes.
If the scourge slay suddenly, he will laugh at the trial of the innocent.
If the scourge kills suddenly, he will mock at the trial of the innocent.
La terre est livrée au pouvoir des méchants ; Il voile la face de ceux qui la jugent. Si ce n'est pas lui, qui est-ce donc ?
La tierra es entregada en manos de los impíos, y él cubre el rostro de sus jueces. Si no es él, ¿quién es? ¿dónde está?
The earth is given into the hand of the wicked: he covereth the faces of the judges thereof; if not, where, and who is he?
The earth is given into the hand of the wicked. He covers the faces of its judges. If not he, then who is it?
Mes jours se sont enfuis plus vite qu'un courrier ; Ils ont passé sans voir le bonheur.
Mis días han sido más ligeros que un correo; huyeron, y no vieron el bien.
Now my days are swifter than a post: they flee away, they see no good.

Ils ont glissé comme des nacelles de jonc, Comme un aigle qui fond sur sa proie.
Pasaron cual navíos veloces: como el águila que se arroja á la comida.
They are passed away as the swift ships: as the eagle that hasteth to the prey.

Si je dis : Je veux oublier ma plainte, Je veux laisser là ma figure triste et paraître joyeux,
Si digo: Olvidaré mi queja, dejaré mi aburrimiento, y esforzaréme:
If I say, I will forget my complaint, I will leave off my heaviness, and comfort myself:
If I say, ‘I will forget my complaint, I will put off my sad face, and cheer up,’
Je tremble devant toutes mes douleurs ; Je sais que tu ne m'acquitteras pas.
Contúrbanme todos mis trabajos; sé que no me darás por libre.
I am afraid of all my sorrows, I know that thou wilt not hold me innocent.
I am afraid of all my sorrows. I know that you will not hold me innocent.
Je suis condamné d'avance ; Pourquoi donc me tourmenterais-je en vain ?
Yo soy impío, ¿para qué trabajaré en vano?
If I be wicked, why then labour I in vain?
I will be condemned. Why then do I labor in vain?
Quand je me laverais avec de la neige, Que je nettoierais mes mains avec du savon,
Aunque me lave con aguas de nieve, y limpie mis manos con la misma limpieza,
If I wash myself with snow water, and make my hands never so clean;
If I wash myself with snow, and cleanse my hands with lye,
Alors même tu me plongerais dans la fange, Et mes habits me prendraient en horreur.
Aun me hundirás en el hoyo, y mis propios vestidos me abominarán.
Yet shalt thou plunge me in the ditch, and mine own clothes shall abhor me.
yet you will plunge me in the ditch. My own clothes will abhor me.
Car il n'est pas un homme comme moi, que je puisse lui répondre, Et que nous puissions aller ensemble en jugement.
Porque no es hombre como yo, para que yo le responda, y vengamos juntamente á juicio.
For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, and we should come together in judgment.

Il n'y a pas entre nous d'arbitre Qui pose sa main sur nous deux.
No hay entre nosotros árbitro que ponga su mano sobre nosotros ambos.
Neither is there any daysman betwixt us, that might lay his hand upon us both.

Qu'il retire sa verge de dessus moi, Que sa terreur ne m'épouvante plus !
Quite de sobre mí su vara, y su terror no me espante.
Let him take his rod away from me, and let not his fear terrify me:

Alors je parlerai sans le craindre, Car je ne me sens pas coupable.
Entonces hablaré, y no le temeré: porque así no estoy en mí mismo.
Then would I speak, and not fear him; but it is not so with me.
