Ja, ich weiß fast wohl, daß also ist, daß ein Mensch nicht rechtfertig bestehen mag gegen Gott.
Ciertamente yo conozco que es así: ¿y cómo se justificará el hombre con Dios?
I know it is so of a truth: but how should man be just with God?

Hat er Lust, mit ihm zu hadern, so kann er ihm auf tausend nicht eins antworten.
Si quisiere contender con él, no le podrá responder á una cosa de mil.
If he will contend with him, he cannot answer him one of a thousand.

Er istweise und machtig wem ist's je gelungen, der sich wider ihn gelegt hat?
El es sabio de corazón, y poderoso en fortaleza: ¿quién se endureció contra él, y quedó en paz?
He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath hardened himself against him, and hath prospered?
God is wise in heart, and mighty in strength. Who has hardened himself against him and prospered?
Er versetzt Berge, ehe sie es inne werden, die er in seinem Zorn umkehret.
Que arranca los montes con su furor, y no conocen quién los trastornó:
Which removeth the mountains, and they know not: which overturneth them in his anger.

Er weget ein Land aus seinem Ort, daß seine Pfeiler zittern.
Que remueve la tierra de su lugar, y hace temblar sus columnas:

Er spricht zur Sonne, so gehet sie nicht auf, und versiegelt die Sterne.
Que manda al sol, y no sale; y sella las estrellas:

Er breitet den Himmel aus allein und gehet auf den Wogen des Meers.
El que extiende solo los cielos, y anda sobre las alturas de la mar:

Er machet den Wagen am Himmel und Orion und die Glucke und die Sterne gegen Mittag.

Er tut grolie Dinge, die nicht zu forschen sind, und Wunder, deren keine Zahl ist.
El que hace cosas grandes é incomprensibles, y maravillosas, sin número.
Which doeth great things past finding out; yea, and wonders without number.

Siehe, er gehet vor mir uber, ehe ich's gewahr werde, und verwandelt sich, ehe ich's merke.
He aquí que él pasará delante de mí, y yo no lo veré; y pasará, y no lo entenderé.

Behold, he taketh away, who can hinder him? who will say unto him, What doest thou?

Er ist Gott, seinen Zorn kann niemand stillen; unter ihm müssen sich beugen die stolzen Herren.
Dios no tornará atrás su ira, y debajo de él se encorvan los que ayudan á los soberbios.
If God will not withdraw his anger, the proud helpers do stoop under him.

Wie sollt ich denn ihm antworten und Worte finden gegen ihn?
¿Cuánto menos le responderé yo, y hablaré con él palabras estudiadas?
How much less shall I answer him, and choose out my words to reason with him?

Wenn ich auch gleich recht habe, kann ich ihm dennoch nicht antworten sondern ich mülite urn mein Recht flehen.
Que aunque fuese yo justo, no responderé; antes habré de rogar á mi juez.

Er lalit meinen Geist sich nicht erquicken, sondern macht mich voll Betrubnis.

Sage ich, daß ich gerecht bin; so verdammet er mich doch; bin ich fromm, so macht er mich doch zu Un recht.
Si yo me justificare, me condenará mi boca; si me dijere perfecto, esto me hará inicuo.
If I justify myself, mine own mouth shall condemn me: if I say, I am perfect, it shall also prove me perverse.

Bin ich denn fromm, so darf sich’s meine Seele nicht annehmen. Ich begehre keines Lebens mehr.

Wenn er anhebt zu geitieln, so dringet er fort bald zum Tode und spottet der Anfechtung der Unschuldigen.
Si azote mata de presto, ríese de la prueba de los inocentes.
If the scourge slay suddenly, he will laugh at the trial of the innocent.

Das Land aber wird gegeben unter die Hand des Gottlosen, daß er ihre Richter unterdrucke. Ist's nicht also? Wie sollte es anders sein?
La tierra es entregada en manos de los impíos, y él cubre el rostro de sus jueces. Si no es él, ¿quién es? ¿dónde está?
The earth is given into the hand of the wicked: he covereth the faces of the judges thereof; if not, where, and who is he?

Meine Tage sind schneller gewesen denn ein Laufer; sie sind geflohen und haben nichts Gutes erlebt.

Wenn ich gedenke, ich will meiner Klage vergessen und meine Gebarde lassen fahren und mich erquicken,

If I say, I will forget my complaint, I will leave off my heaviness, and comfort myself:

so furchte ich alle meine Schmerzen, weil ich weili, daß du mich nicht unschuldig sein lassest.
Contúrbanme todos mis trabajos; sé que no me darás por libre.
I am afraid of all my sorrows, I know that thou wilt not hold me innocent.

Bin ich denn gottlos, warum leide ich denn solche vergebliche Plage?

Aunque me lave con aguas de nieve, y limpie mis manos con la misma limpieza,
If I wash myself with snow water, and make my hands never so clean;

so wirst du mich doch tunken in Kot, und werden mir meine Kleider scheulilich anstehen.
Aun me hundirás en el hoyo, y mis propios vestidos me abominarán.
Yet shalt thou plunge me in the ditch, and mine own clothes shall abhor me.

Denn er ist nicht meinesgleichen, dem ich antworten mochte, daü wir vor Gericht miteinander kamen.
Porque no es hombre como yo, para que yo le responda, y vengamos juntamente á juicio.

daß ich moge reden und mich nicht vor ihm furchten durfe; sonst kann ich nichts tun, das fur mich sei.
Entonces hablaré, y no le temeré: porque así no estoy en mí mismo.
