S'il voulait contester avec lui, sur mille choses il ne pourrait répondre à une seule.

Dieu est sage en son cœur, et puissant en force : qui lui a résisté, et est demeuré en paix ?
El es sabio de corazón, y poderoso en fortaleza: ¿quién se endureció contra él, y quedó en paz?
He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath hardened himself against him, and hath prospered?

Il transporte les montagnes, sans qu'elles le sachent, il les renverse dans sa colère ;
Que arranca los montes con su furor, y no conocen quién los trastornó:
Which removeth the mountains, and they know not: which overturneth them in his anger.

il secoue la terre sur sa base, et ses colonnes sont ébranlées.

Il commande au soleil, et le soleil ne se lève pas ; il met un sceau sur les étoiles.

Seul, il étend les cieux, il marche sur les hauteurs de la mer.

Il a créé la Grande Ourse, Orion, les Pléiades, et les régions du ciel austral.

Il fait des merveilles qu'on ne peut sonder, des prodiges qu'on ne saurait compter.
El que hace cosas grandes é incomprensibles, y maravillosas, sin número.

Voici qu'il passe près de moi, et je ne le vois pas ; il s'éloigne, sans que je l'aperçoive.

S'il ravit une proie, qui s'y opposera, qui lui dira : « Que fais-tu ? »
He aquí, arrebatará; ¿quién le hará restituir? ¿Quién le dirá, Qué haces?
Behold, he taketh away, who can hinder him? who will say unto him, What doest thou?

Dieu ! Rien ne fléchit sa colère ; devant lui s'inclinent les légions d'orgueil.
Dios no tornará atrás su ira, y debajo de él se encorvan los que ayudan á los soberbios.
If God will not withdraw his anger, the proud helpers do stoop under him.

Et moi je songerais à lui répondre, à choisir mes paroles pour discuter avec lui !
¿Cuánto menos le responderé yo, y hablaré con él palabras estudiadas?
How much less shall I answer him, and choose out my words to reason with him?
How much less will I answer him, and choose my words to argue with him?
Aurais-je pour moi la justice, je ne répondrais pas ; j'implorerais la clémence de mon juge.
Que aunque fuese yo justo, no responderé; antes habré de rogar á mi juez.
Whom, though I were righteous, yet would I not answer, but I would make supplication to my judge.

lui qui me brise comme dans un tourbillon, et multiplie mes blessures sans motif ;

S'agit-il de force, voici qu'il est fort, s'agit-il de droit, il dit : « Qui m'assigne ? »
Si habláremos de su potencia, fuerte por cierto es; si de juicio, ¿quién me emplazará?
If I speak of strength, lo, he is strong: and if of judgment, who shall set me a time to plead?
If it is a matter of strength, behold, he is mighty! If of justice, ‘Who,’ says he, ‘will summon me?’
Serais-je irréprochable, ma bouche même me condamnerait ; serais-je innocent, elle me déclarerait pervers.
Si yo me justificare, me condenará mi boca; si me dijere perfecto, esto me hará inicuo.
If I justify myself, mine own mouth shall condemn me: if I say, I am perfect, it shall also prove me perverse.

Innocent ! Je le suis ; je ne tiens pas à l'existence, et la vie m'est à charge.

Il m'importe après tout ; c'est pourquoi j'ai dit : « Il fait périr également le juste et l'impie. »

Si du moins le fléau tuait d'un seul coup ! Hélas ! il se rit des épreuves de l'innocent !

If the scourge slay suddenly, he will laugh at the trial of the innocent.

La terre est livrée aux mains du méchant, Dieu voile la face de ses juges : si ce n'est pas lui, qui est-ce donc ?
La tierra es entregada en manos de los impíos, y él cubre el rostro de sus jueces. Si no es él, ¿quién es? ¿dónde está?
The earth is given into the hand of the wicked: he covereth the faces of the judges thereof; if not, where, and who is he?

Si je dis : « Je veux oublier ma plainte, quitter mon air triste, prendre un air joyeux, »

If I say, I will forget my complaint, I will leave off my heaviness, and comfort myself:
If I say, ‘I will forget my complaint, I will put off my sad face, and cheer up,’
je tremble pour toutes mes douleurs, je sais que tu ne me tiendras pas pour innocent.
Contúrbanme todos mis trabajos; sé que no me darás por libre.
I am afraid of all my sorrows, I know that thou wilt not hold me innocent.

Je serai jugé coupable : pourquoi prendre une peine inutile ?
Yo soy impío, ¿para qué trabajaré en vano?

Aunque me lave con aguas de nieve, y limpie mis manos con la misma limpieza,

tu me plongerais dans la fange, et mes vêtements m'auraient en horreur.
Aun me hundirás en el hoyo, y mis propios vestidos me abominarán.
Yet shalt thou plunge me in the ditch, and mine own clothes shall abhor me.

Dieu n'est pas un homme comme moi, pour que je lui réponde, pour que nous comparaissions ensemble en justice.
Porque no es hombre como yo, para que yo le responda, y vengamos juntamente á juicio.

alors je parlerai sans le craindre ; autrement, je ne suis point à moi-même.
Entonces hablaré, y no le temeré: porque así no estoy en mí mismo.
