Certainement, je sais qu’il en est ainsi ; et comment l’homme serait-il juste devant Dieu ?
Ciertamente yo conozco que es así: ¿y cómo se justificará el hombre con Dios?
I know it is so of a truth: but how should man be just with God?
“Truly I know that it is so, but how can man be just with God?
S’il veut plaider avec lui, il ne lui répondra pas une fois sur mille.
Si quisiere contender con él, no le podrá responder á una cosa de mil.
If he will contend with him, he cannot answer him one of a thousand.
If he is pleased to contend with him, he can’t answer him one time in a thousand.
Il est habile en son intelligence, et puissant en sa force : qui lui a résisté et s’en est bien trouvé ?
El es sabio de corazón, y poderoso en fortaleza: ¿quién se endureció contra él, y quedó en paz?
He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath hardened himself against him, and hath prospered?
God is wise in heart, and mighty in strength. Who has hardened himself against him and prospered?
Il transporte les montagnes, et elles ne le savent pas ; il les bouleverse en sa fureur ;
Que arranca los montes con su furor, y no conocen quién los trastornó:
Which removeth the mountains, and they know not: which overturneth them in his anger.
He removes the mountains, and they don’t know it, when he overturns them in his anger.
Il fait trembler la terre sur sa base, et ses colonnes sont ébranlées.
Que remueve la tierra de su lugar, y hace temblar sus columnas:
Which shaketh the earth out of her place, and the pillars thereof tremble.
He shakes the earth out of its place. Its pillars tremble.
Il parle au soleil, et le soleil ne se lève pas ; et il met un sceau sur les étoiles.
Que manda al sol, y no sale; y sella las estrellas:
Which commandeth the sun, and it riseth not; and sealeth up the stars.
He commands the sun and it doesn’t rise, and seals up the stars.
Seul, il étend les cieux, et il marche sur les hauteurs de la mer.
El que extiende solo los cielos, y anda sobre las alturas de la mar:
Which alone spreadeth out the heavens, and treadeth upon the waves of the sea.
He alone stretches out the heavens, and treads on the waves of the sea.
Il a créé la grande Ourse, l’Orion, et la Pléiade, et les régions cachées du midi.
El que hizo el Arcturo, y el Orión, y las Pléyadas, y los lugares secretos del mediodía:
Which maketh Arcturus, Orion, and Pleiades, and the chambers of the south.
He makes the Bear, Orion, and the Pleiades, and the rooms of the south.
Il fait de grandes choses qu’on ne peut sonder, de merveilleuses choses qu’on ne peut compter.
El que hace cosas grandes é incomprensibles, y maravillosas, sin número.
Which doeth great things past finding out; yea, and wonders without number.
He does great things past finding out; yes, marvelous things without number.
Voici, il passe près de moi, et je ne le vois pas ; il passe encore, et je ne l’aperçois pas.
He aquí que él pasará delante de mí, y yo no lo veré; y pasará, y no lo entenderé.
Lo, he goeth by me, and I see him not: he passeth on also, but I perceive him not.
Behold, he goes by me, and I don’t see him. He passes on also, but I don’t perceive him.
S’il ravit, qui le lui fera rendre ? Qui lui dira : Que fais-tu ?
He aquí, arrebatará; ¿quién le hará restituir? ¿Quién le dirá, Qué haces?
Behold, he taketh away, who can hinder him? who will say unto him, What doest thou?
Behold, he snatches away. Who can hinder him? Who will ask him, ‘What are you doing?’
Dieu ne revient pas sur sa colère ; sous lui sont abattus les plus puissants rebelles.
Dios no tornará atrás su ira, y debajo de él se encorvan los que ayudan á los soberbios.
If God will not withdraw his anger, the proud helpers do stoop under him.
“God will not withdraw his anger. The helpers of Rahab stoop under him.
Combien moins lui pourrais-je répondre, moi, et choisir mes paroles pour lui parler !
¿Cuánto menos le responderé yo, y hablaré con él palabras estudiadas?
How much less shall I answer him, and choose out my words to reason with him?
How much less will I answer him, and choose my words to argue with him?
Quand j’aurais raison, je ne lui répondrais pas ; je demanderais grâce à mon juge !
Que aunque fuese yo justo, no responderé; antes habré de rogar á mi juez.
Whom, though I were righteous, yet would I not answer, but I would make supplication to my judge.

Si je le citais, et qu’il me répondît, je ne croirais pas qu’il voulût écouter ma voix,
Que si yo le invocase, y él me respondiese, aun no creeré que haya escuchado mi voz.
If I had called, and he had answered me; yet would I not believe that he had hearkened unto my voice.
If I had called, and he had answered me, yet I wouldn’t believe that he listened to my voice.
Lui qui fond sur moi dans une tempête, et qui multiplie mes plaies sans motif.
Porque me ha quebrado con tempestad, y ha aumentado mis heridas sin causa.
For he breaketh me with a tempest, and multiplieth my wounds without cause.
For he breaks me with a storm, and multiplies my wounds without cause.
Il ne me permet point de reprendre haleine ; il me rassasie d’amertume.
No me ha concedido que tome mi aliento; mas hame hartado de amarguras.
He will not suffer me to take my breath, but filleth me with bitterness.
He will not allow me to catch my breath, but fills me with bitterness.
S’il est question de force, il dit : "Me voilà ! " S’il est question de droit : "Qui m’assigne ? "
Si habláremos de su potencia, fuerte por cierto es; si de juicio, ¿quién me emplazará?
If I speak of strength, lo, he is strong: and if of judgment, who shall set me a time to plead?
If it is a matter of strength, behold, he is mighty! If of justice, ‘Who,’ says he, ‘will summon me?’
Quand même je serais juste, ma bouche me condamnerait ; je serais innocent, qu’elle me déclarerait coupable.
Si yo me justificare, me condenará mi boca; si me dijere perfecto, esto me hará inicuo.
If I justify myself, mine own mouth shall condemn me: if I say, I am perfect, it shall also prove me perverse.
Though I am righteous, my own mouth will condemn me. Though I am blameless, it will prove me perverse.
Je suis innocent. Je ne me soucie pas de vivre, je ne fais aucun cas de ma vie.
Bien que yo fuese íntegro, no conozco mi alma: reprocharé mi vida.
Though I were perfect, yet would I not know my soul: I would despise my life.
I am blameless. I don’t respect myself. I despise my life.
Tout se vaut ! C’est pourquoi j’ai dit : Il détruit l’innocent comme l’impie.
Una cosa resta que yo diga: Al perfecto y al impío él los consume.
This is one thing, therefore I said it, He destroyeth the perfect and the wicked.
“It is all the same. Therefore I say he destroys the blameless and the wicked.
Quand un fléau soudain répand la mort, il se rit des épreuves des innocents.
Si azote mata de presto, ríese de la prueba de los inocentes.
If the scourge slay suddenly, he will laugh at the trial of the innocent.
If the scourge kills suddenly, he will mock at the trial of the innocent.
La terre est livrée aux mains des méchants ; il couvre les yeux de ceux qui la jugent. Si ce n’est lui, qui est-ce donc
La tierra es entregada en manos de los impíos, y él cubre el rostro de sus jueces. Si no es él, ¿quién es? ¿dónde está?
The earth is given into the hand of the wicked: he covereth the faces of the judges thereof; if not, where, and who is he?

Mes jours ont été plus légers qu’un courrier ; ils se sont enfuis, sans voir le bonheur ;

Si je dis : Je veux oublier ma plainte, quitter mon air triste, et reprendre ma sérénité,
Si digo: Olvidaré mi queja, dejaré mi aburrimiento, y esforzaréme:
If I say, I will forget my complaint, I will leave off my heaviness, and comfort myself:
If I say, ‘I will forget my complaint, I will put off my sad face, and cheer up,’
Je suis effrayé de toutes mes douleurs : je sais que tu ne me jugeras pas innocent.
Contúrbanme todos mis trabajos; sé que no me darás por libre.
I am afraid of all my sorrows, I know that thou wilt not hold me innocent.
I am afraid of all my sorrows. I know that you will not hold me innocent.
Moi, je suis condamné, pourquoi me fatiguer en vain ?
Yo soy impío, ¿para qué trabajaré en vano?
If I be wicked, why then labour I in vain?
I will be condemned. Why then do I labor in vain?
Quand je me laverais dans la neige, quand je purifierais mes mains dans la potasse,
Aunque me lave con aguas de nieve, y limpie mis manos con la misma limpieza,
If I wash myself with snow water, and make my hands never so clean;
If I wash myself with snow, and cleanse my hands with lye,
Tu me plongerais dans le fossé, et mes vêtements m’auraient en horreur.
Aun me hundirás en el hoyo, y mis propios vestidos me abominarán.
Yet shalt thou plunge me in the ditch, and mine own clothes shall abhor me.
yet you will plunge me in the ditch. My own clothes will abhor me.
Car il n’est pas un homme comme moi pour que je lui réponde, pour que nous allions ensemble en justice.
Porque no es hombre como yo, para que yo le responda, y vengamos juntamente á juicio.
For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, and we should come together in judgment.

Il n’y a pas d’arbitre entre nous, qui pose sa main sur nous deux.

Qu’il ôte sa verge de dessus moi, et que ses terreurs ne me troublent plus !

Alors je lui parlerai sans crainte ; car, dans l’état où je me trouve, je ne suis plus à moi.
Entonces hablaré, y no le temeré: porque así no estoy en mí mismo.
Then would I speak, and not fear him; but it is not so with me.
