Darauf antwortete Hiob folgendermaßen:
Y RESPONDIÓ Job, y dijo:

»Gewiß, ich weiß, daß es sich so verhält, und wie könnte ein Mensch Gott gegenüber recht behalten?
Ciertamente yo conozco que es así: ¿y cómo se justificará el hombre con Dios?
I know it is so of a truth: but how should man be just with God?
“Truly I know that it is so, but how can man be just with God?
Wenn es ihn gelüstete, sich mit Gott in einen Rechtsstreit einzulassen, so könnte er ihm auf tausend Fragen keine einzige Antwort geben.
Si quisiere contender con él, no le podrá responder á una cosa de mil.
If he will contend with him, he cannot answer him one of a thousand.
If he is pleased to contend with him, he can’t answer him one time in a thousand.
Ist einer auch reich an Klugheit und stark an Kraft: wer hat ihm (Gott) je getrotzt und ist heil davongekommen?
El es sabio de corazón, y poderoso en fortaleza: ¿quién se endureció contra él, y quedó en paz?
He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath hardened himself against him, and hath prospered?
God is wise in heart, and mighty in strength. Who has hardened himself against him and prospered?
Er ist es ja, der Berge versetzt, ohne daß sie es merken, der sie in seinem Zorn umkehrt;
Que arranca los montes con su furor, y no conocen quién los trastornó:
Which removeth the mountains, and they know not: which overturneth them in his anger.
He removes the mountains, and they don’t know it, when he overturns them in his anger.
er macht die Erde aufbeben von ihrer Stätte, daß ihre Säulen ins Wanken geraten;
Que remueve la tierra de su lugar, y hace temblar sus columnas:
Which shaketh the earth out of her place, and the pillars thereof tremble.

er gebietet der Sonne, so geht sie nicht auf, und legt die Sterne unter Siegel;
Que manda al sol, y no sale; y sella las estrellas:
Which commandeth the sun, and it riseth not; and sealeth up the stars.

er spannt das Himmelszelt aus, er allein, und schreitet hoch auf den Meereswogen einher;

er vollführt große Dinge, daß sie nicht zu erforschen sind, und Wunderwerke, daß man sie nicht zählen kann.
El que hace cosas grandes é incomprensibles, y maravillosas, sin número.
Which doeth great things past finding out; yea, and wonders without number.
He does great things past finding out; yes, marvelous things without number.
Siehe, er geht an mir vorüber, doch ich sehe ihn nicht; er schwebt dahin, doch ich nehme ihn nicht wahr.
He aquí que él pasará delante de mí, y yo no lo veré; y pasará, y no lo entenderé.
Lo, he goeth by me, and I see him not: he passeth on also, but I perceive him not.

Wenn er hinwegrafft – wer will’s ihm wehren? Wer darf zu ihm sagen: ›Was machst du da?‹«
He aquí, arrebatará; ¿quién le hará restituir? ¿Quién le dirá, Qué haces?
Behold, he taketh away, who can hinder him? who will say unto him, What doest thou?
Behold, he snatches away. Who can hinder him? Who will ask him, ‘What are you doing?’
»Gott läßt von seinem Zorn nicht ab – unter ihn haben sich sogar die Helfer Rahabs beugen müssen –,
Dios no tornará atrás su ira, y debajo de él se encorvan los que ayudan á los soberbios.
If God will not withdraw his anger, the proud helpers do stoop under him.

geschweige denn, daß ich ihm Rede stehen könnte und ihm gegenüber die rechten Worte zu wählen wüßte.
¿Cuánto menos le responderé yo, y hablaré con él palabras estudiadas?
How much less shall I answer him, and choose out my words to reason with him?
How much less will I answer him, and choose my words to argue with him?
Wenn ich auch im Recht wäre, könnte ich ihm doch nicht antworten, sondern müßte ihn als meinen Richter noch anflehen!
Que aunque fuese yo justo, no responderé; antes habré de rogar á mi juez.
Whom, though I were righteous, yet would I not answer, but I would make supplication to my judge.

Selbst wenn ich ihn vor Gericht zöge und er mir Rede stünde, würde ich doch nicht glauben, daß er meinen Aussagen Gehör schenkte;

nein, er würde im Sturmesbrausen mich zermalmen und meine Wunden ohne Ursache zahlreich machen;
Porque me ha quebrado con tempestad, y ha aumentado mis heridas sin causa.

er würde mich nicht zu Atem kommen lassen, sondern mich mit bitteren Leiden sättigen.
No me ha concedido que tome mi aliento; mas hame hartado de amarguras.
He will not suffer me to take my breath, but filleth me with bitterness.

Kommt es auf die Kraft des Starken an, so würde er sagen: ›Hier bin ich!‹, und handelt es sich um ein Rechtsverfahren: ›Wer will mich vorladen?‹
Si habláremos de su potencia, fuerte por cierto es; si de juicio, ¿quién me emplazará?
If I speak of strength, lo, he is strong: and if of judgment, who shall set me a time to plead?
If it is a matter of strength, behold, he is mighty! If of justice, ‘Who,’ says he, ‘will summon me?’
Wäre ich auch im Recht, so müßte doch mein eigener Mund mich verdammen, und wäre ich schuldlos, so würde er mich doch als schuldig erscheinen lassen.«
Si yo me justificare, me condenará mi boca; si me dijere perfecto, esto me hará inicuo.
If I justify myself, mine own mouth shall condemn me: if I say, I am perfect, it shall also prove me perverse.

»Schuldlos bin ich! Mir liegt nichts an meinem Leben; ich achte mein Dasein für nichts!
Bien que yo fuese íntegro, no conozco mi alma: reprocharé mi vida.

Es kommt auf eins heraus, darum spreche ich es frei aus: Den Unschuldigen vernichtet er wie den Bösewicht.
Una cosa resta que yo diga: Al perfecto y al impío él los consume.

Wenn die Geißel (schwerer Volksplagen) jähen Tod bringt, so lacht er über die Verzweiflung der Unschuldigen.
Si azote mata de presto, ríese de la prueba de los inocentes.
If the scourge slay suddenly, he will laugh at the trial of the innocent.

Ist ein Land in die Hand eines Frevlers gegeben, so verhüllt er die Augen seiner Richter; wenn er es nicht tut – wer denn sonst?
La tierra es entregada en manos de los impíos, y él cubre el rostro de sus jueces. Si no es él, ¿quién es? ¿dónde está?
The earth is given into the hand of the wicked: he covereth the faces of the judges thereof; if not, where, and who is he?

Und meine Tage eilen schneller dahin als ein Läufer, sind entschwunden, ohne das Glück gesehen zu haben;

Wenn ich mir vornehme: ›Ich will meinen Jammer vergessen, will mein finsteres Aussehen abtun und heiter blicken!‹,
Si digo: Olvidaré mi queja, dejaré mi aburrimiento, y esforzaréme:
If I say, I will forget my complaint, I will leave off my heaviness, and comfort myself:
If I say, ‘I will forget my complaint, I will put off my sad face, and cheer up,’
so faßt mich doch immer wieder ein Schauder vor allen meinen Schmerzen; ich weiß ja, daß du (o Gott) mich nicht für schuldlos erklären wirst.«
Contúrbanme todos mis trabajos; sé que no me darás por libre.
I am afraid of all my sorrows, I know that thou wilt not hold me innocent.

»Ich muß nun einmal als schuldig gelten: wozu soll ich mich da noch vergebens mühen?
Yo soy impío, ¿para qué trabajaré en vano?
If I be wicked, why then labour I in vain?

Wenn ich mich auch mit Schnee wüsche und meine Hände mit Lauge reinigte,
Aunque me lave con aguas de nieve, y limpie mis manos con la misma limpieza,
If I wash myself with snow water, and make my hands never so clean;
If I wash myself with snow, and cleanse my hands with lye,
so würdest du mich doch in die schlammgefüllte Grube eintauchen, so daß meine eigenen Kleider sich vor mir ekelten.
Aun me hundirás en el hoyo, y mis propios vestidos me abominarán.
Yet shalt thou plunge me in the ditch, and mine own clothes shall abhor me.

Denn Gott ist nicht ein Mann wie ich, daß ich ihm Rede stünde, daß wir zusammen vor Gericht treten könnten;
Porque no es hombre como yo, para que yo le responda, y vengamos juntamente á juicio.

Er nehme seine Rute von mir weg und lasse seinen Schrecken mich nicht mehr ängstigen:
Quite de sobre mí su vara, y su terror no me espante.

so will ich reden, ohne mich vor ihm zu fürchten; denn nicht also bin ich’s mir bewußt (daß ich ihn fürchten müßte).«
Entonces hablaré, y no le temeré: porque así no estoy en mí mismo.
Then would I speak, and not fear him; but it is not so with me.
