Ciertamente yo conozco que es así: ¿y cómo se justificará el hombre con Dios?
I know it is so of a truth: but how should man be just with God?

Wollte er mit Ihm rechten, so könnte er Ihm auf tausend nicht eins beantworten.
Si quisiere contender con él, no le podrá responder á una cosa de mil.

Er ist weisen Herzens und von ungebrochener Kraft; wer hat ihm je getrotzt und es durchgesetzt?
El es sabio de corazón, y poderoso en fortaleza: ¿quién se endureció contra él, y quedó en paz?
He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath hardened himself against him, and hath prospered?
God is wise in heart, and mighty in strength. Who has hardened himself against him and prospered?
Er verrückt Berge, und man merkt es nicht, daß er sie in seinem Zorn umgekehrt hat.
Que arranca los montes con su furor, y no conocen quién los trastornó:
Which removeth the mountains, and they know not: which overturneth them in his anger.
He removes the mountains, and they don’t know it, when he overturns them in his anger.
Er bewegt die Erde von ihrem Ort, daß ihre Säulen zittern.
Que remueve la tierra de su lugar, y hace temblar sus columnas:
Which shaketh the earth out of her place, and the pillars thereof tremble.

Er gebietet der Sonne, so geht sie nicht auf; er legt die Sterne unter Siegel.
Que manda al sol, y no sale; y sella las estrellas:

Er allein spannt den Himmel aus und tritt auf Meereswogen daher.

Er macht den Bären, den Orion und das Siebengestirn, samt den Kammern des Südens.

Which maketh Arcturus, Orion, and Pleiades, and the chambers of the south.

Er tut große Dinge, die unerforschlich sind, Wunder ohne Zahl.
El que hace cosas grandes é incomprensibles, y maravillosas, sin número.
Which doeth great things past finding out; yea, and wonders without number.

Siehe, er geht an mir vorüber, und ich sehe ihn nicht; er fährt vorbei, und ich gewahre ihn nicht.
He aquí que él pasará delante de mí, y yo no lo veré; y pasará, y no lo entenderé.
Lo, he goeth by me, and I see him not: he passeth on also, but I perceive him not.

Er rafft dahin, wer hindert ihn? Wer ruft ihm zu: Was machst du da?
He aquí, arrebatará; ¿quién le hará restituir? ¿Quién le dirá, Qué haces?
Behold, he taketh away, who can hinder him? who will say unto him, What doest thou?
Behold, he snatches away. Who can hinder him? Who will ask him, ‘What are you doing?’
Gott unterdrückt nicht seinen Zorn; Rahabs Helfer beugen sich unter ihn.
Dios no tornará atrás su ira, y debajo de él se encorvan los que ayudan á los soberbios.
If God will not withdraw his anger, the proud helpers do stoop under him.

Wie sollte ich ihm denn antworten und Worte finden, um mit ihm zu reden?
¿Cuánto menos le responderé yo, y hablaré con él palabras estudiadas?
How much less shall I answer him, and choose out my words to reason with him?
How much less will I answer him, and choose my words to argue with him?
Auch wenn ich im Recht wäre, dürfte ich ihm nicht entgegnen; ich müßte meinen Richter um Gnade anflehen.
Que aunque fuese yo justo, no responderé; antes habré de rogar á mi juez.
Whom, though I were righteous, yet would I not answer, but I would make supplication to my judge.

Er läßt mich nicht einmal Atem holen, sondern sättigt mich mit Bitterkeit.

Kommt's auf die Kraft an, siehe, so ist er stark; wenn aber aufs Recht, wer ladet mich dann vor?
Si habláremos de su potencia, fuerte por cierto es; si de juicio, ¿quién me emplazará?
If I speak of strength, lo, he is strong: and if of judgment, who shall set me a time to plead?
If it is a matter of strength, behold, he is mighty! If of justice, ‘Who,’ says he, ‘will summon me?’
Wenn ich schon im Recht bin, so wird mich doch mein Mund verdammen, und bin ich auch unschuldig, so kommt es doch verkehrt heraus.
Si yo me justificare, me condenará mi boca; si me dijere perfecto, esto me hará inicuo.
If I justify myself, mine own mouth shall condemn me: if I say, I am perfect, it shall also prove me perverse.

Ich bin unschuldig, bin unbesorgt um meine Seele; ich verachte das Leben!

Darum sage ich: Es ist einerlei; Fromme und Gottlose bringt er gleicherweise um!
Una cosa resta que yo diga: Al perfecto y al impío él los consume.

Wenn die Geißel plötzlich tötet, so lacht er der Prüfung der Unschuldigen.

Die Erde ist in die Gewalt des Frevlers gegeben; das Angesicht ihrer Richter verhüllt er; wenn nicht er, wer tut es denn?
La tierra es entregada en manos de los impíos, y él cubre el rostro de sus jueces. Si no es él, ¿quién es? ¿dónde está?

Meine Tage eilen schneller dahin als ein Läufer; sie sind entflohen und haben nichts Gutes gesehen;

Wenn ich denke: Ich will meiner Klage vergessen, meine Miene ändern und heiter dreinschauen,
Si digo: Olvidaré mi queja, dejaré mi aburrimiento, y esforzaréme:
If I say, I will forget my complaint, I will leave off my heaviness, and comfort myself:
If I say, ‘I will forget my complaint, I will put off my sad face, and cheer up,’
so muß ich meine vielen Schmerzen fürchten; denn ich weiß, daß du mich nicht lossprechen wirst!
Contúrbanme todos mis trabajos; sé que no me darás por libre.
I am afraid of all my sorrows, I know that thou wilt not hold me innocent.

Soll ich denn schuldig sein, was mühe ich mich vergeblich ab?
Yo soy impío, ¿para qué trabajaré en vano?
If I be wicked, why then labour I in vain?

Wüsche ich mich auch mit Schnee und reinigte meine Hände mit Lauge,
Aunque me lave con aguas de nieve, y limpie mis manos con la misma limpieza,
If I wash myself with snow water, and make my hands never so clean;
If I wash myself with snow, and cleanse my hands with lye,
so würdest du mich doch in die Grube tauchen, daß ich meine Kleider nicht mehr anziehen dürfte!
Aun me hundirás en el hoyo, y mis propios vestidos me abominarán.
Yet shalt thou plunge me in the ditch, and mine own clothes shall abhor me.

Denn er ist nicht ein Mann wie ich, daß ich ihm antworten könnte, daß wir miteinander vor Gericht gingen;

Er nehme aber seine Rute von mir, und sein Schrecken überfalle mich nicht,

so will ich reden und ihn nicht fürchten; denn nicht also steht es in mir selbst.
Entonces hablaré, y no le temeré: porque así no estoy en mí mismo.
