Replicando a esto Job, dijo:
Y RESPONDIÓ Job, y dijo:

Yo sé verdaderamente que así es, y que no hay hombre justo si se compara con Dios.
Ciertamente yo conozco que es así: ¿y cómo se justificará el hombre con Dios?
I know it is so of a truth: but how should man be just with God?
“Truly I know that it is so, but how can man be just with God?
Si Dios quisiere entrar en juicio con él, no podrá responderle de mil cargos, que le hará, a uno solo.
Si quisiere contender con él, no le podrá responder á una cosa de mil.
If he will contend with him, he cannot answer him one of a thousand.
If he is pleased to contend with him, he can’t answer him one time in a thousand.
El es el sabio de corazón y el fuerte y poderoso. ¿Quién jamás le resistió que quedase en paz?
El es sabio de corazón, y poderoso en fortaleza: ¿quién se endureció contra él, y quedó en paz?
He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath hardened himself against him, and hath prospered?
God is wise in heart, and mighty in strength. Who has hardened himself against him and prospered?
El traslada los montes de una a otra parte, y sin que lo perciban, son abatidos y allanados por su furor.
Que arranca los montes con su furor, y no conocen quién los trastornó:
Which removeth the mountains, and they know not: which overturneth them in his anger.
He removes the mountains, and they don’t know it, when he overturns them in his anger.
El conmueve la tierra de su sitio, y hace bambolear sus columnas.
Que remueve la tierra de su lugar, y hace temblar sus columnas:
Which shaketh the earth out of her place, and the pillars thereof tremble.
He shakes the earth out of its place. Its pillars tremble.
El manda al sol, y no nace si así lo manda; y encierra, si quiere, las estrellas como bajo sello.
Que manda al sol, y no sale; y sella las estrellas:
Which commandeth the sun, and it riseth not; and sealeth up the stars.
He commands the sun and it doesn’t rise, and seals up the stars.
El sólo extendió los cielos, y camina sobre las ondas del mar.
El que extiende solo los cielos, y anda sobre las alturas de la mar:
Which alone spreadeth out the heavens, and treadeth upon the waves of the sea.
He alone stretches out the heavens, and treads on the waves of the sea.
El hizo el Arturo, y el Orión y las Híadas, y las partes escondidas hacia el mediodía.
El que hizo el Arcturo, y el Orión, y las Pléyadas, y los lugares secretos del mediodía:
Which maketh Arcturus, Orion, and Pleiades, and the chambers of the south.
He makes the Bear, Orion, and the Pleiades, and the rooms of the south.
El hace cosas grandes e incomprensibles y maravillosas; que no tienen guarismo.
El que hace cosas grandes é incomprensibles, y maravillosas, sin número.
Which doeth great things past finding out; yea, and wonders without number.
He does great things past finding out; yes, marvelous things without number.
Si viene a mí, yo no lo veo; si se retira, tampoco le conozco.
He aquí que él pasará delante de mí, y yo no lo veré; y pasará, y no lo entenderé.
Lo, he goeth by me, and I see him not: he passeth on also, but I perceive him not.
Behold, he goes by me, and I don’t see him. He passes on also, but I don’t perceive him.
Si él súbitamente pregunta, ¿quién podrá responderle, o quién podrá decirle: Por qué haces eso?
He aquí, arrebatará; ¿quién le hará restituir? ¿Quién le dirá, Qué haces?
Behold, he taketh away, who can hinder him? who will say unto him, What doest thou?
Behold, he snatches away. Who can hinder him? Who will ask him, ‘What are you doing?’
El es el Dios verdadero, a cuyo enojo nadie puede resistir, y ante cuyo acatamiento se postran los ángeles que mueven los cielos y la tierra.
Dios no tornará atrás su ira, y debajo de él se encorvan los que ayudan á los soberbios.
If God will not withdraw his anger, the proud helpers do stoop under him.
“God will not withdraw his anger. The helpers of Rahab stoop under him.
¿Quién soy yo, pues, para poder contestarle, y hablar con él boca a boca?
¿Cuánto menos le responderé yo, y hablaré con él palabras estudiadas?
How much less shall I answer him, and choose out my words to reason with him?
How much less will I answer him, and choose my words to argue with him?
Aun cuando tuviere yo alguna cosa que alegar de mi parte, no la alegaré, sino que imploraré la clemencia de mi juez.
Que aunque fuese yo justo, no responderé; antes habré de rogar á mi juez.
Whom, though I were righteous, yet would I not answer, but I would make supplication to my judge.
Though I were righteous, yet I wouldn’t answer him. I would make supplication to my judge.
Y aun cuando prestare oídos a mis súplicas, no acabaré de creer que haya hecho méritos de mis voces.
Que si yo le invocase, y él me respondiese, aun no creeré que haya escuchado mi voz.
If I had called, and he had answered me; yet would I not believe that he had hearkened unto my voice.
If I had called, and he had answered me, yet I wouldn’t believe that he listened to my voice.
Porque él puede oprimirme con un torbellino de males, y multiplicar mis llagas aun sin manifestar el motivo.
Porque me ha quebrado con tempestad, y ha aumentado mis heridas sin causa.
For he breaketh me with a tempest, and multiplieth my wounds without cause.
For he breaks me with a storm, and multiplies my wounds without cause.
El no concede reposo ninguno a mi espíritu y me llena de amarguras.
No me ha concedido que tome mi aliento; mas hame hartado de amarguras.
He will not suffer me to take my breath, but filleth me with bitterness.
He will not allow me to catch my breath, but fills me with bitterness.
Si se trata de poder es poderosísimo; si de la equidad en juzgar, nadie osa dar testimonio en favor mío.
Si habláremos de su potencia, fuerte por cierto es; si de juicio, ¿quién me emplazará?
If I speak of strength, lo, he is strong: and if of judgment, who shall set me a time to plead?
If it is a matter of strength, behold, he is mighty! If of justice, ‘Who,’ says he, ‘will summon me?’
Si yo quisiere justificarme, me condenará mi propia boca; si yo me quisiere manifestar inocente, él me convencerá de reo.
Si yo me justificare, me condenará mi boca; si me dijere perfecto, esto me hará inicuo.
If I justify myself, mine own mouth shall condemn me: if I say, I am perfect, it shall also prove me perverse.
Though I am righteous, my own mouth will condemn me. Though I am blameless, it will prove me perverse.
Aun cuando yo fuese inocente, eso mismo lo ignorará mi alma, y me será siempre fastidiosa mi vida.
Bien que yo fuese íntegro, no conozco mi alma: reprocharé mi vida.
Though I were perfect, yet would I not know my soul: I would despise my life.
I am blameless. I don’t respect myself. I despise my life.
Una sola cosa he afirmado, y es que el Señor consume con trabajos así al inocente como al impío.
Una cosa resta que yo diga: Al perfecto y al impío él los consume.
This is one thing, therefore I said it, He destroyeth the perfect and the wicked.
“It is all the same. Therefore I say he destroys the blameless and the wicked.
Ya que me azota, quíteme de una vez la vida, y no dirán que se ríe de las penas de los inocentes.
Si azote mata de presto, ríese de la prueba de los inocentes.
If the scourge slay suddenly, he will laugh at the trial of the innocent.
If the scourge kills suddenly, he will mock at the trial of the innocent.
La tierra comúnmente es entregada en manos del impío, el cual con las riquezas venda los ojos de los jueces que la gobiernan. Y si no es el Señor quien lo dispone, decidme, ¿quién es?
La tierra es entregada en manos de los impíos, y él cubre el rostro de sus jueces. Si no es él, ¿quién es? ¿dónde está?
The earth is given into the hand of the wicked: he covereth the faces of the judges thereof; if not, where, and who is he?
The earth is given into the hand of the wicked. He covers the faces of its judges. If not he, then who is it?
Mis días han corrido más velozmente que una posta; huyeron sin dejarme ver cosa buena.
Mis días han sido más ligeros que un correo; huyeron, y no vieron el bien.
Now my days are swifter than a post: they flee away, they see no good.
“Now my days are swifter than a runner. They flee away. They see no good.
Pasaron como naves cargadas de frutas; como el águila volando que se deja caer sobre la presa.
Pasaron cual navíos veloces: como el águila que se arroja á la comida.
They are passed away as the swift ships: as the eagle that hasteth to the prey.
They have passed away as the swift ships, as the eagle that swoops on the prey.
Que si yo digo: No hablaré más así, se altera mi semblante, y el dolor me despedaza.
Si digo: Olvidaré mi queja, dejaré mi aburrimiento, y esforzaréme:
If I say, I will forget my complaint, I will leave off my heaviness, and comfort myself:
If I say, ‘I will forget my complaint, I will put off my sad face, and cheer up,’
De todas mis obras tenía yo recelo, sabiendo que tú no perdonas al delincuente.
Contúrbanme todos mis trabajos; sé que no me darás por libre.
I am afraid of all my sorrows, I know that thou wilt not hold me innocent.
I am afraid of all my sorrows. I know that you will not hold me innocent.
Y si aun viviendo así, soy tratado como un impío, ¿para qué habré trabajado en balde toda mi vida?
Yo soy impío, ¿para qué trabajaré en vano?
If I be wicked, why then labour I in vain?
I will be condemned. Why then do I labor in vain?
Por más que me lave con aguas de nieve, y reluzcan mis manos de puro limpias,
Aunque me lave con aguas de nieve, y limpie mis manos con la misma limpieza,
If I wash myself with snow water, and make my hands never so clean;
If I wash myself with snow, and cleanse my hands with lye,
sin embargo me harás perecer, y me tendrás como sumergido en inmundicias, y hasta mis vestidos harán asco de mí.
Aun me hundirás en el hoyo, y mis propios vestidos me abominarán.
Yet shalt thou plunge me in the ditch, and mine own clothes shall abhor me.
yet you will plunge me in the ditch. My own clothes will abhor me.
Porque no habré de dar mis descargos a otro hombre como yo, ni a quien puede igualmente ser citado conmigo a juicio.
Porque no es hombre como yo, para que yo le responda, y vengamos juntamente á juicio.
For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, and we should come together in judgment.

Tampoco hay quien tenga autoridad sobre ambos, ni interponerse como mediador entre nosotros dos.

Aparte de sobre mí la vara de su justicia; y yo me asombre con el terror que me causa;

Let him take his rod away from me, and let not his fear terrify me:

entonces hablaré sin que me amedrente su vista, pues estando con tanto temor, no puedo responder en mi defensa.
Entonces hablaré, y no le temeré: porque así no estoy en mí mismo.
Then would I speak, and not fear him; but it is not so with me.
