La palabra de Yahvé vino a Jonás por segunda vez, y le dijo:
Y FUÉ palabra de Jehová segunda vez á Jonás, diciendo:
And the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the second time, saying,

“Levántate, ve a la gran ciudad de Nínive y anúnciale el mensaje que yo te daré”.
Levántate, y ve á Nínive, aquella gran ciudad, y publica en ella el pregón que yo te diré.
Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.
“Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach to it the message that I give you.”
Jonás se levantó y se fue a Nínive, tal como Yahvé se lo había ordenado. Nínive era una ciudad enorme; se necesitaban tres días para recorrerla toda.
Y levantóse Jonás, y fué á Nínive, conforme á la palabra de Jehová. Y era Nínive ciudad sobremanera grande, de tres días de camino.

Jonás comenzó a entrar en la ciudad y, después de caminar todo un día, gritaba: “¡Dentro de cuarenta días Nínive será destruida!”.
Y comenzó Jonás á entrar por la ciudad, camino de un día, y pregonaba diciendo: De aquí á cuarenta días Nínive será destruída.

La gente de Nínive le creyó a Dios, por lo que anunciaron un ayuno y, desde el más importante hasta el más humilde, se vistieron de cilicio en señal de arrepentimiento.
Y los hombres de Nínive creyeron á Dios, y pregonaron ayuno, y vistiéronse de sacos desde el mayor de ellos hasta el menor de ellos.

Luego mandó proclamar en Nínive este decreto del rey y de sus consejeros: “Ninguna persona ni animal, ni el ganado mayor ni el menor, debe probar bocado. No se les debe dar de comer ni de beber.
E hizo pregonar y anunciar en Nínive, por mandado del rey y de sus grandes, diciendo: Hombres y animales, bueyes y ovejas, no gusten cosa alguna, no se les dé alimento, ni beban agua:

Al contrario, que todos, hombres y animales, se cubran de cilicio y clamen a Dios con todas sus fuerzas. Que cada uno se arrepienta de su mala conducta y deje de cometer actos violentos.
Y que se cubran de saco los hombres y los animales, y clamen á Dios fuertemente: y conviértase cada uno de su mal camino, de la rapiña que está en sus manos.
But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.

¡Quién sabe! Tal vez Dios cambie de parecer, se arrepienta y calme su terrible enojo, para que no muramos”.

Cuando Dios vio lo que hicieron y cómo se apartaron de su mal camino, cambió de parecer respecto al castigo que había amenazado con enviarles, y no lo destruyó.
Y vió Dios lo que hicieron, que se convirtieron de su mal camino: y arrepintióse del mal que había dicho les había de hacer, y no lo hizo.
