Y habló el Señor por segunda vez a Jonás , diciéndole:
Y FUÉ palabra de Jehová segunda vez á Jonás, diciendo:

Anda y ve a Nínive, ciudad grande, y predica en ella aquello que yo te digo.

Marchó, pues, Jonás , y se dirigió a Nínive, según la orden del Señor. Era Nínive una ciudad grandísima, eran necesarios tres días para recorrerla.
Y levantóse Jonás, y fué á Nínive, conforme á la palabra de Jehová. Y era Nínive ciudad sobremanera grande, de tres días de camino.

Y comenzó Jonás a recorrer la ciudad, y anduvo por ella un día clamando y diciendo: De aquí a cuarenta días Nínive será destruida.

Y creyeron los ninivitas en la palabra de Dios, y publicaron el ayuno, y se vistieron todos pequeños y grandes de sacos o cilicios.

En seguida se publicó en Nínive una orden del rey y de sus principales magnates que decía: Ni hombres ni bestias nada coman; no salgan a pacer ni a beber los bueyes y ganados;
E hizo pregonar y anunciar en Nínive, por mandado del rey y de sus grandes, diciendo: Hombres y animales, bueyes y ovejas, no gusten cosa alguna, no se les dé alimento, ni beban agua:

hombres y bestias cúbranse con sacos y arreos de luto, y clamen aquellos con todo ahínco al Señor, convirtiéndose cada uno de su mala vida e inicuo proceder:
Y que se cubran de saco los hombres y los animales, y clamen á Dios fuertemente: y conviértase cada uno de su mal camino, de la rapiña que está en sus manos.

Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?

Viendo, pues, Dios las obras de penitencia que hacían, y cómo se habían convertido de su mala vida, se movió a misericordia, y no les envió los males que había decretado.
Y vió Dios lo que hicieron, que se convirtieron de su mal camino: y arrepintióse del mal que había dicho les había de hacer, y no lo hizo.
