Los cinco reyes amorreos unieron sus ejércitos para atacar juntos a Gabaón.
Y cinco reyes de los Amorrheos, el rey de Jerusalem, el rey de Hebrón, el rey de Jerimoth, el rey de Lachîs, el rey de Eglón, se juntaron y subieron, ellos con todos sus ejércitos, y asentaron campo sobre Gabaón, y pelearon contra ella.

Al saberlo los hombres de Gabaón enviaron un mensaje urgente a Josué que estaba en Guilgal: «Ven y ayuda a tus siervos. Ven rápidamente y sálvanos. Todos los reyes que viven en las montañas están aquí con sus ejércitos».
Y los moradores de Gabaón enviaron á decir á Josué al campo en Gilgal: No encojas tus manos de tus siervos; sube prestamente á nosotros para guardarnos y ayudarnos: porque todos los reyes de los Amorrheos que habitan en las montañas, se han juntado contra nosotros.
And the men of Gibeon sent unto Joshua to the camp to Gilgal, saying, Slack not thy hand from thy servants; come up to us quickly, and save us, and help us: for all the kings of the Amorites that dwell in the mountains are gathered together against us.

Entonces Josué y la gente de guerra marcharon desde Guilgal en auxilio de Gabaón.

Viajaron, pues, toda la noche desde Guilgal y atacaron al enemigo por sorpresa.

Además, mientras el enemigo huía hacia Bet Jorón, el Señor les lanzó una lluvia de granizo que los siguió hasta Azeca. Murieron más hombres a causa del granizo que por las espadas de los israelitas.
Y como iban huyendo de los Israelitas, á la bajada de Beth-oron, Jehová echó sobre ellos del cielo grandes piedras hasta Azeca, y murieron: muchos más murieron de las piedras del granizo, que los que los hijos de Israel habían muerto á cuchillo.
And it came to pass, as they fled from before Israel, and were in the going down to Beth-horon, that the LORD cast down great stones from heaven upon them unto Azekah, and they died: they were more which died with hailstones than they whom the children of Israel slew with the sword.

ordenó que se pusiera una gran piedra contra la entrada de la cueva y que se pusiera guardia para que los reyes no escaparan.

Luego ordenó al resto de los hombres: «Vayan en persecución del enemigo y atáquenlo por la retaguardia. No permitan que regresen a sus ciudades, porque el Señor nos ayudará a destruirlos completamente».
Y vosotros no os paréis, sino seguid á vuestros enemigos, y heridles la retaguardia, sin dejarles entrar en sus ciudades; porque Jehová vuestro Dios los ha entregado en vuestra mano.
And stay ye not, but pursue after your enemies, and smite the hindmost of them; suffer them not to enter into their cities: for the LORD your God hath delivered them into your hand.

Josué y los hombres de Israel siguieron la matanza y exterminaron a los cinco ejércitos, salvo un pequeño grupo que logró llegar a sus ciudades fortificadas.
Y aconteció que como Josué y los hijos de Israel hubieron acabado de herirlos con mortandad muy grande, hasta destruirlos, los que quedaron de ellos se metieron en las ciudades fuertes.

Los israelitas regresaron al campamento en Maquedá sin haber perdido un solo hombre. Después de esto, nadie se atrevió a atacar a Israel.

Cuando el sol se estaba ocultando, dio órdenes de que bajaran los cuerpos y los arrojaran en la cueva donde habían estado escondidos. Luego pusieron un gran montón de piedras sobre la entrada de la cueva. El montón aún está en ese lugar.
