Mas como Adonisedec, rey de Jerusalén , hubiese oído que Josué había conquistado a Hai, y arrasádola (pues lo que había hecho con Jericó y su rey, lo mismo hizo con Hai y el rey de esta ciudad), y que los gabaonitas se habían pasado al partido de Israel y se habían aliado con ellos,
Y COMO Adonisedec rey de Jerusalem oyó que Josué había tomado á Hai, y que la había asolado, (como había hecho á Jericó y á su rey, así hizo á Hai y á su rey;) y que los moradores de Gabaón habían hecho paz con los Israelitas, y que estaban entre ellos;

entró en grandísimo temor: por cuanto la ciudad de Gabaón era una ciudad grande, y una de las ciudades reales, y mayor que la de Hai, y muy valientes todos sus guerreros.

Venid a mí y traedme socorro para conquistar a Gabaón, por haberse pasado a Josué y a los hijos de Israel.
Subid á mí, y ayudadme, y combatamos á Gabaón: porque ha hecho paz con Josué y con los hijos de Israel.
Come up unto me, and help me, that we may smite Gibeon: for it hath made peace with Joshua and with the children of Israel.

Se juntaron, pues, y marcharon estos cinco reyes de los amorreos, el rey de Jerusalén , el rey de Hebrón, el rey de Jerimot, el rey de Laquis, el rey de Eglón junto con sus respectivos ejércitos, y acampando cerca de Gabaón, la sitiaron.
Y cinco reyes de los Amorrheos, el rey de Jerusalem, el rey de Hebrón, el rey de Jerimoth, el rey de Lachîs, el rey de Eglón, se juntaron y subieron, ellos con todos sus ejércitos, y asentaron campo sobre Gabaón, y pelearon contra ella.

Mas los vecinos de la sitiada ciudad de Gabaón despacharon mensajeros a Josué, que a la sazón se hallaba acampando en Gálgala, para decirle: No rehuses socorrer a tus siervos. Acude presto a librarnos con tu auxilio; porque se han unido contra nosotros todos los reyes de los amorreos, que habitan en las montañas.
Y los moradores de Gabaón enviaron á decir á Josué al campo en Gilgal: No encojas tus manos de tus siervos; sube prestamente á nosotros para guardarnos y ayudarnos: porque todos los reyes de los Amorrheos que habitan en las montañas, se han juntado contra nosotros.
And the men of Gibeon sent unto Joshua to the camp to Gilgal, saying, Slack not thy hand from thy servants; come up to us quickly, and save us, and help us: for all the kings of the Amorites that dwell in the mountains are gathered together against us.

Al punto Josué subió de Gálgala, y con él los guerreros más valientes de todo su ejército.

Josué, pues, caminando desde Gálgala toda la noche, se echó sobre ellos de repente.

And the LORD discomfited them before Israel, and slew them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, and chased them along the way that goeth up to Beth-horon, and smote them to Azekah, and unto Makkedah.

Y mientras iban huyendo de los hijos de Israel, estando en la bajada de Bet-Horón, el Señor llovió del cielo grandes piedras sobre ellos hasta Azeca: y fueron muchos más los que murieron de las piedras del granizo, que los que pasaron a cuchillo los hijos de Israel.
Y como iban huyendo de los Israelitas, á la bajada de Beth-oron, Jehová echó sobre ellos del cielo grandes piedras hasta Azeca, y murieron: muchos más murieron de las piedras del granizo, que los que los hijos de Israel habían muerto á cuchillo.
And it came to pass, as they fled from before Israel, and were in the going down to Beth-horon, that the LORD cast down great stones from heaven upon them unto Azekah, and they died: they were more which died with hailstones than they whom the children of Israel slew with the sword.

Entonces habló Josué al Señor en aquel día en que entregó al amorreo a merced de los hijos de Israel, y dijo en presencia de ellos: Sol no te muevas de encima de Gabaón; ni tú, Luna de encima del valle de Ayalón.

Then spake Joshua to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon.

Y se pararon el Sol y la Luna hasta que el pueblo del Señor se hubo vengado de sus enemigos. ¿Y no es esto mismo lo que está escrito en el libro de los justos? Se paró, pues, el Sol en medio del cielo, y detuvo su carrera sin ponerse por espacio de un día.
Y el sol se detuvo y la luna se paró, hasta tanto que la gente se hubo vengado de sus enemigos. ¿No está aquesto escrito en el libro de Jasher? Y el sol se paró en medio del cielo, y no se apresuró á ponerse casi un día entero.
And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.

No hubo antes ni después día tan largo, obedeciendo el Señor, por decirlo así, a la voz de un hombre, y peleando por Israel.

Y mandó a los soldados que le acompañaban, diciéndoles: Haced rodar unas grandes piedras a la boca de la cueva, y dejad hombres cuidadosos para guardar a los que estarán encerrados:
Entonces Josué dijo: Rodad grandes piedras á la boca de la cueva, y poned hombres junto á ella que los guarden;
And Joshua said, Roll great stones upon the mouth of the cave, and set men by it for to keep them:

vosotros entre tanto no paréis de perseguir a los enemigos, hiriendo siempre la retaguardia de los fugitivos, ni dejéis entrar a guarecerse en sus ciudades a los que el Señor Dios ha entregado en vuestras manos.
Y vosotros no os paréis, sino seguid á vuestros enemigos, y heridles la retaguardia, sin dejarles entrar en sus ciudades; porque Jehová vuestro Dios los ha entregado en vuestra mano.
And stay ye not, but pursue after your enemies, and smite the hindmost of them; suffer them not to enter into their cities: for the LORD your God hath delivered them into your hand.

Habiendo, pues, hecho gran mortandad en los enemigos, hasta el punto de no dejar casi uno con vida, los que pudieron escapar de las manos de los israelitas se metieron en las ciudades fuertes.
Y aconteció que como Josué y los hijos de Israel hubieron acabado de herirlos con mortandad muy grande, hasta destruirlos, los que quedaron de ellos se metieron en las ciudades fuertes.
And it came to pass, when Joshua and the children of Israel had made an end of slaying them with a very great slaughter, till they were consumed, that the rest which remained of them entered into fenced cities.

Y se volvió todo el ejército a Josué junto a Maceda, donde estaba entonces el campo, salvo y sin haber perdido un solo hombre; y ni siquiera uno de los enemigos se atrevió a chistar contra los hijos de Israel.

And it came to pass, when they brought out those kings unto Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said unto the captains of the men of war which went with him, Come near, put your feet upon the necks of these kings. And they came near, and put their feet upon the necks of them.

les dijo Josué: No temáis ni os acobardéis; esforzaos y mantened vuestro brío, que así tratará el Señor a todos vuestros enemigos contra quienes peleáis.

Al ponerse el sol mandó a los que le acompañaban que los quitaran de los patíbulos, y descolgados los echaron en la cueva donde se habían escondido, y pusieron sobre su boca grandes piedras, que permanecen hasta el presente.

En este mismo día se apoderó Josué de Maceda, y la pasó a cuchillo, matando a su rey y a todos sus habitantes, sin dejar siquiera uno: haciendo con el rey de Maceda lo mismo que había hecho con el rey de Jericó .
