Esto es lo que poseyeron los hijos de Israel en la tierra de Canaán, según la repartición que hicieron el sumo sacerdote Eleazar, y Josué, hijo de Nun, y los príncipes de las familias en cada una de las tribus de Israel:
ESTO pues es lo que los hijos de Israel tomaron por heredad en la tierra de Canaán, lo cual les repartieron Eleazar sacerdote, y Josué hijo de Nun, y los principales de los padres de las tribus de los hijos de Israel.
And these are the countries which the children of Israel inherited in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel, distributed for inheritance to them.

distribuyéndolo todo por suerte entre las nueve tribus y media, como el Señor lo había ordenado a Moisés.

Cuarenta años tenía yo cuando me envió Moisés, siervo del Señor, desde Cadesbarne a reconocer la tierra, y le referí lo que me parecía verdad.

Así el Señor me ha conservado la vida, como lo prometió, hasta el día presente. Cuarenta y cinco años ha que dio el Señor esta orden a Moisés, cuando Israel andaba por el desierto: hoy tengo ochenta y cinco años,

con tan robusta salud como la que tenía en aquel tiempo en que fui enviado al reconocimiento: el vigor de entonces dura en mí hasta hoy, tanto para hacer la guerra como para caminar.

Le bendijo entonces Josué, y le entregó la posesión de Hebrón.

Por tanto Hebrón fué de Caleb, hijo de Jephone Cenezeo, en heredad hasta hoy; porque cumplió siguiendo á Jehová Dios de Israel.
Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite unto this day, because that he wholly followed the LORD God of Israel.

Hebrón se llamaba antiguamente Cariat-Arbe; allí está enterrado Arbe, el hombre mayor entre los enaceos o gigantes. Y cesaron por entonces las guerras en la tierra de Canaán.
Mas Hebrón fué antes llamada Chîriath-arba; fué Arba un hombre grande entre los Anaceos. Y la tierra tuvo reposo de las guerras.
And the name of Hebron before was Kirjath-arba; which Arba was a great man among the Anakims. And the land had rest from war.
