And the children of Joseph spake unto Joshua, saying, Why hast thou given me but one lot and one portion to inherit, seeing I am a great people, forasmuch as the LORD hath blessed me hitherto?
The children of Joseph spoke to Joshua, saying, “Why have you given me just one lot and one part for an inheritance, since we are a numerous people, because the LORD has blessed us so far?”
Et Josué leur dit : Tu es un peuple nombreux, monte dans la forêt et défriche-la pour toi, si tu es trop à l'étroit sur les montagnes d'Ephraïm.
Y Josué les respondió: Si eres pueblo tan grande, sube tú al monte, y corta para ti allí en la tierra del Pherezeo y de los gigantes, pues que el monte de Ephraim es angosto para ti.
And Joshua answered them, If thou be a great people, then get thee up to the wood country, and cut down for thyself there in the land of the Perizzites and of the giants, if mount Ephraim be too narrow for thee.
Joshua said to them, “If you are a numerous people, go up to the forest, and clear land for yourself there in the land of the Perizzites and of the Rephaim, since the hill country of Ephraim is too narrow for you.”
Et ils dirent : Les montagnes d'Ephraïm ne nous plaisent point, car le Chananéen qui y demeure à Bethsan et ses villages, dans la vallée de Jesraël, a une cavalerie d'élite et du fer.

And the children of Joseph said, The hill is not enough for us: and all the Canaanites that dwell in the land of the valley have chariots of iron, both they who are of Beth-shean and her towns, and they who are of the valley of Jezreel.

Et Josué dit aux fils de Joseph : Puisque tu es un peuple nombreux et que tu as une grande puissance, tu ne le borneras pas à un seul héritage ;

And Joshua spake unto the house of Joseph, even to Ephraim and to Manasseh, saying, Thou art a great people, and hast great power: thou shalt not have one lot only:

La forêt t'appartiendra ; car il y a là une forêt, tu la défricheras ; elle sera à toi, lorsque tu auras exterminé le Chananéen ; quoiqu'il ait une cavalerie d'élite, tu es plus fort que lui.
Mas aquel monte será tuyo; que bosque es, y tú lo cortarás, y serán tuyos sus términos: porque tú echarás al Cananeo, aunque tenga carros herrados, y aunque sea fuerte.
But the mountain shall be thine; for it is a wood, and thou shalt cut it down: and the outgoings of it shall be thine: for thou shalt drive out the Canaanites, though they have iron chariots, and though they be strong.
