Josué assembla toutes les tribus d'Israël à Sichem, et il convoqua les anciens d'Israël, ses chefs, ses juges et ses officiers. Ils se présentèrent devant Dieu,

Y JUNTANDO Josué todas las tribus de Israel en Sichêm, llamó á los ancianos de Israel, y á sus príncipes, á sus jueces, y á sus oficiales; y presentáronse delante de Dios.

J'envoyai devant vous les frelons qui les chassèrent de devant vous, ainsi que les deux rois des Amorrhéens ; ce ne fut ni par ton épée ni par ton arc.

Craignez donc Yahweh et servez-le avec intégrité et vérité ; ôtez les dieux qu'ont servis vos pères de l'autre côté du fleuve et en Egypte, et servez Yahweh.

Que si vous ne trouvez pas bon de servir Yahweh, choisissez aujourd'hui qui vous voulez servir, soit les dieux que servaient vos pères au delà du fleuve, soit les dieux des Amorrhéens dont vous habitez le pays. Pour moi et ma maison, nous servirons Yahweh. »

Y si mal os parece servir á Jehová, escogeos hoy á quién sirváis; si á los dioses á quienes sirvieron vuestros padres, cuando estuvieron de esotra parte del río, ó á los dioses de los Amorrheos en cuya tierra habitáis: que yo y mi casa serviremos á Jehová.

And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

Le peuple répondit et dit : « Loin de nous de vouloir abandonner Yahweh pour servir d'autres dieux !

Entonces el pueblo respondió, y dijo: Nunca tal acontezca, que dejemos á Jehová por servir á otros dioses:

Car c'est Yahweh, notre Dieu, qui nous a fait monter, nous et nos pères, du pays d'Egypte, de la maison de servitude ; et qui a opéré sous nos yeux ces grands prodiges, et qui nous a gardés tout le long du chemin que nous avons parcouru, et parmi tous les peuples au milieu desquels nous avons passé.

Porque Jehová nuestro Dios es el que nos sacó á nosotros y á nuestros padres de la tierra de Egipto, de la casa de servidumbre; el cual delante de nuestros ojos ha hecho estas grandes señales, y nos ha guardado por todo el camino por donde hemos andado, y en todos los pueblos por entre los cuales pasamos.

Josué dit au peuple : « Vous ne pouvez pas servir Yahweh, car c'est un Dieu saint, c'est un Dieu jaloux ; il ne pardonnera pas vos transgressions et vos péchés.

Entonces Josué dijo al pueblo: No podréis servir á Jehová, porque él es Dios santo, y Dios celoso; no sufrirá vuestras rebeliones y vuestros pecados.

And Joshua said unto the people, Ye cannot serve the LORD: for he is an holy God; he is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins.

Si vous abandonnez Yahweh et que vous serviez des dieux étrangers, il se retournera, il vous fera du mal et vous consumera, après vous avoir fait du bien. »

Si dejareis á Jehová y sirviereis á dioses ajenos, se volverá, y os maltratará, y os consumirá, después que os ha hecho bien.

If ye forsake the LORD, and serve strange gods, then he will turn and do you hurt, and consume you, after that he hath done you good.

Le peuple dit à Josué : « Non ! car nous servirons Yahweh. »

El pueblo entonces dijo á Josué: No, antes á Jehová serviremos.

And the people said unto Joshua, Nay; but we will serve the LORD.

Josué dit au peuple : « Vous êtes témoins contre vous-même que vous avez choisi Yahweh pour le servir. » Ils répondirent : « Nous en sommes témoins. »

Y Josué respondió al pueblo: Vosotros sois testigos contra vosotros mismos, de que os habéis elegido á Jehová para servirle. Y ellos respondieron: Testigos somos.

And Joshua said unto the people, Ye are witnesses against yourselves that ye have chosen you the LORD, to serve him. And they said, We are witnesses.

Il dit : « Et maintenant ôtez les dieux étrangers qui sont au milieu de vous, et tournez vos cœurs vers Yahweh, le Dieu d'Israël. »

Quitad, pues, ahora los dioses ajenos que están entre vosotros, é inclinad vuestro corazón á Jehová Dios de Israel.

Now therefore put away, said he, the strange gods which are among you, and incline your heart unto the LORD God of Israel.

Et le peuple dit à Josué : « Nous servirons Yahweh, notre Dieu, et nous obéirons à sa voix. »

And the people said unto Joshua, The LORD our God will we serve, and his voice will we obey.

C'est ainsi que Josué conclut en ce jour-là une alliance avec le peuple, et qu'il lui donna à Sichem des lois et des ordonnances.

Et Josué renvoya le peuple, chacun dans son héritage.
