1Et il arriva, quand toute la nation eut achevé de passer le Jourdain, que l’Éternel parla à Josué, disant :
2Prenez d’entre le peuple douze hommes, un homme de chaque tribu,
3et commandez-leur, disant : Enlevez d’ici, du milieu du Jourdain, de là où se sont tenus les pieds des sacrificateurs, douze pierres ; et vous les transporterez avec vous, et vous les poserez dans le lieu où vous passerez cette nuit.
4Et Josué appela les douze hommes qu’il avait désignés d’entre les fils d’Israël, un homme de chaque tribu ;
5et Josué leur dit : Passez devant l’arche de l’Éternel, votre Dieu, au milieu du Jourdain, et levez chacun de vous une pierre sur son épaule, selon le nombre des tribus des fils d’Israël,
6afin que cela soit un signe au milieu de vous. Lorsque dans l’avenir vos fils demanderont, disant : Que signifient pour vous ces pierres ?
7alors vous leur direz que les eaux du Jourdain furent coupées devant l’arche de l’alliance de l’Éternel ; lorsqu’elle passa dans le Jourdain, les eaux du Jourdain furent coupées. Et ces pierres serviront de mémorial aux fils d’Israël pour toujours.
8Et les fils d’Israël firent comme Josué avait commandé : ils enlevèrent douze pierres du milieu du Jourdain, comme l’Éternel l’avait dit à Josué, selon le nombre des tribus des fils d’Israël ; et ils les transportèrent avec eux au lieu de leur campement, et les posèrent là.
9Et Josué dressa douze pierres au milieu du Jourdain, à la place où s’étaient tenus les pieds des sacrificateurs qui portaient l’arche de l’alliance ; et elles sont là jusqu’à ce jour.
10Et les sacrificateurs qui portaient l’arche s’arrêtèrent au milieu du Jourdain, jusqu’à ce que tout ce que l’Éternel avait commandé à Josué de dire au peuple soit exécuté, selon tout ce que Moïse avait commandé à Josué ; et le peuple se hâta et passa.
11Et quand tout le peuple eut achevé de passer, il arriva que l’arche de l’Éternel et les sacrificateurs passèrent devant le peuple.
12Et les fils de Ruben, et les fils de Gad, et la moitié de la tribu de Manassé, passèrent armés devant les fils d’Israël, comme leur avait dit Moïse.
13Environ 40 000 hommes, équipés en guerre, passèrent devant l’Éternel pour combattre, dans les plaines de Jéricho.
14En ce jour-là, l’Éternel éleva Josué aux yeux de tout Israël, et ils le craignirent comme ils avaient craint Moïse, tous les jours de sa vie.
15Et l’Éternel parla à Josué, disant :
16Commande aux sacrificateurs qui portent l’arche du témoignage, qu’ils montent hors du Jourdain.
17Et Josué commanda aux sacrificateurs, disant : Montez hors du Jourdain.
18Et il arriva que, comme les sacrificateurs qui portaient l’arche de l’alliance de l’Éternel montèrent du milieu du Jourdain, [et] que les plantes des pieds des sacrificateurs se retirèrent sur le sec, les eaux du Jourdain retournèrent en leur lieu, et coulèrent par-dessus tous ses bords comme auparavant.
19Et le peuple monta hors du Jourdain, le dixième [jour] du premier mois ; et ils campèrent à Guilgal, à l’extrémité orientale de Jéricho.
20Et ces douze pierres qu’ils avaient prises du Jourdain, Josué les dressa à Guilgal.
21Et il parla aux fils d’Israël, disant : Lorsque dans l’avenir vos fils interrogeront leurs pères, disant : Que sont ces pierres ?
22vous instruirez vos fils, en disant : Israël a passé ce Jourdain à sec,
23parce que l’Éternel, votre Dieu, sécha les eaux du Jourdain devant vous jusqu’à ce que vous ayez passé, comme l’Éternel, votre Dieu, a fait à la mer Rouge, qu’il mit à sec devant nous jusqu’à ce que nous ayons passé,
24afin que tous les peuples de la terre connaissent la main de l’Éternel, qu’elle est forte ; afin que vous craigniez toujours l’Éternel, votre Dieu.

1Y CUANDO toda la gente hubo acabado de pasar el Jordán, Jehová habló á Josué, diciendo:
2Tomad del pueblo doce hombres, de cada tribu uno,
3Y mandadles, diciendo: Tomaos de aquí del medio del Jordán, del lugar donde están firmes los pies de los sacerdotes, doce piedras, las cuales pasaréis con vosotros, y las asentaréis en el alojamiento donde habéis de tener la noche.
4Entonces Josué llamó á los doce hombres, los cuales había él ordenado de entre los hijos de Israel, de cada tribu uno;
5Y díjoles Josué: Pasad delante del arca de Jehová vuestro Dios al medio del Jordán; y cada uno de vosotros tome una piedra sobre su hombro, conforme al número de las tribus de los hijos de Israel;
6Para que esto sea señal entre vosotros; y cuando vuestros hijos preguntaren á sus padres mañana, diciendo: ¿Qué os significan estas piedras?
7Les responderéis: Que las aguas del Jordán fueron partidas delante del arca del pacto de Jehová; cuando ella pasó el Jordán, las aguas del Jordán se partieron: y estas piedras serán por memoria á los hijos de Israel para siempre.
8Y los hijos de Israel lo hicieron así como Josué les mandó: que levantaron doce piedras del medio del Jordán, como Jehová lo había dicho á Josué, conforme al número de las tribus de los hijos de Israel, y pasáronlas consigo al alojamiento, y las asentaron allí.
9Josué también levantó doce piedras en medio del Jordán, en el lugar donde estuvieron los pies de los sacerdotes que llevaban el arca del pacto; y han estado allí hasta hoy.
10Y los sacerdotes que llevaban el arca se pararon en medio del Jordán, hasta tanto que se acabó todo lo que Jehová había mandado á Josué que hablase al pueblo, conforme á todas las cosas que Moisés había á Josué mandado: y el pueblo se dió priesa y pasó.
11Y cuando todo el pueblo acabó de pasar, pasó también el arca de Jehová, y los sacerdotes, en presencia del pueblo.
12También los hijos de Rubén y los hijos de Gad, y la media tribu de Manasés, pasaron armados delante de los hijos de Israel, según Moisés les había dicho:
13Como cuarenta mil hombres armados á punto pasaron hacia la campiña de Jericó delante de Jehová á la guerra.
14En aquel día Jehová engrandeció á Josué en ojos de todo Israel: y temiéronle, como habían temido á Moisés, todos los días de su vida.
15Y Jehová habló á Josué, diciendo:
16Manda á los sacerdotes que llevan el arca del testimonio, que suban del Jordán.
17Y Josué mandó á los sacerdotes, diciendo: Subid del Jordán.
18Y aconteció que como los sacerdotes que llevaban el arca del pacto de Jehová, subieron del medio del Jordán, y las plantas de los pies de los sacerdotes estuvieron en seco, las aguas del Jordán se volvieron á su lugar, corriendo como antes sobre todos sus bordes.
19Y el pueblo subió del Jordán el diez del mes primero, y asentaron el campo en Gilgal, al lado oriental de Jericó.
20Y Josué erigió en Gilgal las doce piedras que habían traído del Jordán.
21Y habló á los hijos de Israel, diciendo: Cuando mañana preguntaren vuestros hijos á sus padres, y dijeren: ¿Qué os significan estas piedras?
22Declararéis á vuestros hijos, diciendo: Israel pasó en seco por este Jordán.
23Porque Jehová vuestro Dios secó las aguas del Jordán delante de vosotros, hasta que habíais pasado, á la manera que Jehová vuestro Dios lo había hecho en el mar Bermejo, al cual secó delante de nosotros hasta que pasamos:
24Para que todos los pueblos de la tierra conozcan la mano de Jehová, que es fuerte; para que temáis á Jehová vuestro Dios todos los días.

1And it came to pass, when all the people were clean passed over Jordan, that the LORD spake unto Joshua, saying,
2Take you twelve men out of the people, out of every tribe a man,
3And command ye them, saying, Take you hence out of the midst of Jordan, out of the place where the priests’ feet stood firm, twelve stones, and ye shall carry them over with you, and leave them in the lodging place, where ye shall lodge this night.
4Then Joshua called the twelve men, whom he had prepared of the children of Israel, out of every tribe a man:
5And Joshua said unto them, Pass over before the ark of the LORD your God into the midst of Jordan, and take ye up every man of you a stone upon his shoulder, according unto the number of the tribes of the children of Israel:
6That this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean ye by these stones?
7Then ye shall answer them, That the waters of Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD; when it passed over Jordan, the waters of Jordan were cut off: and these stones shall be for a memorial unto the children of Israel for ever.
8And the children of Israel did so as Joshua commanded, and took up twelve stones out of the midst of Jordan, as the LORD spake unto Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel, and carried them over with them unto the place where they lodged, and laid them down there.
9And Joshua set up twelve stones in the midst of Jordan, in the place where the feet of the priests which bare the ark of the covenant stood: and they are there unto this day.
10For the priests which bare the ark stood in the midst of Jordan, until every thing was finished that the LORD commanded Joshua to speak unto the people, according to all that Moses commanded Joshua: and the people hasted and passed over.
11And it came to pass, when all the people were clean passed over, that the ark of the LORD passed over, and the priests, in the presence of the people.
12And the children of Reuben, and the children of Gad, and half the tribe of Manasseh, passed over armed before the children of Israel, as Moses spake unto them:
13About forty thousand prepared for war passed over before the LORD unto battle, to the plains of Jericho.
14On that day the LORD magnified Joshua in the sight of all Israel; and they feared him, as they feared Moses, all the days of his life.
15And the LORD spake unto Joshua, saying,
16Command the priests that bear the ark of the testimony, that they come up out of Jordan.
17Joshua therefore commanded the priests, saying, Come ye up out of Jordan.
18And it came to pass, when the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD were come up out of the midst of Jordan, and the soles of the priests’ feet were lifted up unto the dry land, that the waters of Jordan returned unto their place, and flowed over all his banks, as they did before.
19And the people came up out of Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and encamped in Gilgal, in the east border of Jericho.
20And those twelve stones, which they took out of Jordan, did Joshua pitch in Gilgal.
21And he spake unto the children of Israel, saying, When your children shall ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean these stones?
22Then ye shall let your children know, saying, Israel came over this Jordan on dry land.
23For the LORD your God dried up the waters of Jordan from before you, until ye were passed over, as the LORD your God did to the Red sea, which he dried up from before us, until we were gone over:
24That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the LORD, that it is mighty: that ye might fear the LORD your God for ever.

1When all the nation had completely crossed over the Jordan, the LORD spoke to Joshua, saying,
2“Take twelve men out of the people, a man out of every tribe,
3and command them, saying, ‘Take from out of the middle of the Jordan, out of the place where the priests’ feet stood firm, twelve stones, carry them over with you, and lay them down in the place where you’ll camp tonight.’”
4Then Joshua called the twelve men whom he had prepared of the children of Israel, a man out of every tribe.
5Joshua said to them, “Cross before the ark of the LORD your God into the middle of the Jordan, and each of you pick up a stone and put it on your shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel;
6that this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask in the future, saying, ‘What do you mean by these stones?’
7then you shall tell them, ‘Because the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the LORD’s covenant. When it crossed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. These stones shall be for a memorial to the children of Israel forever.’”
8The children of Israel did as Joshua commanded, and took up twelve stones out of the middle of the Jordan, as the LORD spoke to Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel. They carried them over with them to the place where they camped, and laid them down there.
9Joshua set up twelve stones in the middle of the Jordan, in the place where the feet of the priests who bore the ark of the covenant stood; and they are there to this day.
10For the priests who bore the ark stood in the middle of the Jordan until everything was finished that the LORD commanded Joshua to speak to the people, according to all that Moses commanded Joshua; and the people hurried and passed over.
11When all the people had completely crossed over, the LORD’s ark crossed over with the priests in the presence of the people.
12The children of Reuben, and the children of Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh crossed over armed before the children of Israel, as Moses spoke to them.
