Hombre soy yo que estoy viendo la miseria mía o aflicción en la vara de la indignación del Señor.

Me ha colocado en lugar tenebroso, como a aquellos que ya han muerto para siempre.

Me rodeó por todos lados para que no escapase; me puso pesados grillos.
Cercóme por todos lados, y no puedo salir; agravó mis grillos.

Y aunque yo clame y ruegue, no hace caso de mis plegarias.

Cerró mis caminos como con piedras de sillería; desbarató todos mis senderos o designios.

He venido a ser el escarnio de todo mi pueblo, y su cantinela diaria.
Fuí escarnio á todo mi pueblo, canción de ellos todos los días.
I was a derision to all my people; and their song all the day.

Me ha llenado de amargura, me ha embriagado de ajenjo.
Hartóme de amarguras, embriagóme de ajenjos.
He hath filled me with bitterness, he hath made me drunken with wormwood.

Ha quebrado todos mis dientes, dándome pan lleno de arena; ceniza me ha dado a comer.
Quebróme los dientes con cascajo, cubrióme de ceniza.

Desterrada está de mi alma la paz o abundancia; no sé ya lo que es felicidad.

Y dije yo: Ha desaparecido para mí todo término de mis males, y toda la esperanza que tenía en el Señor.
Y dije: Pereció mi fortaleza, y mi esperanza de Jehová.
And I said, My strength and my hope is perished from the LORD:
I said, “My strength has perished, along with my expectation from the LORD.”
Acuérdate, Señor, de mi miseria y persecución, y del ajenjo y de la hiel que me hacen beber.
Acuérdate de mi aflicción y de mi abatimiento, del ajenjo y de la hiel.
Remembering mine affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall.

De continuo tengo en la memoria estas cosas, y se repudre dentro de mí el alma mía.
Tendrálo aún en memoria mi alma, porque en mí está humillada.

Con todo, considerando estas cosas dentro de mi corazón, hallaré mi esperanza en el Señor.

Es una misericordia del Señor que nosotros no hayamos sido consumidos del todo, porque jamás han faltado sus piedades.
Es por la misericordia de Jehová que no somos consumidos, porque nunca decayeron sus misericordias.
It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.

Bueno es el Señor para los que esperan en él, para las almas que le buscan.

Bueno es aguardar en silencio la salud que viene de Dios.

Se estará quieto y callado, porque ha tomado sobre sí el yugo.

Su boca pegará al suelo, para ver si orando consigue lo que espera.
Pondrá su boca en el polvo, por si quizá hay esperanza.
He putteth his mouth in the dust; if so be there may be hope.

Presentará su mejilla al que le hiere; le hartarán de oprobios.
Dará la mejilla al que le hiriere; hartaráse de afrenta.
He giveth his cheek to him that smiteth him: he is filled full with reproach.

Pero no para siempre lo desechará de sí el Señor.
Porque el Señor no desechará para siempre:

Pues si él nos ha desechado, aún se apiadará de nosotros, según la grandeza de su misericordia.
Antes si afligiere, también se compadecerá según la multitud de sus misericordias.

Puesto que no de buena gana abate él, ni desecha a los hijos de los hombres,

ni huella debajo de sus pies, como un tirano, todos los cautivos de la tierra,

ni pesa con infiel balanza, ante su presencia, la causa del hombre,
Hacer apartar el derecho del hombre ante la presencia del Altísimo,
To turn aside the right of a man before the face of the most High,
to turn away the right of a man before the face of the Most High,
ni daña con injusta sentencia a hombre alguno, eso no sabe el Señor hacerlo.
Trastornar al hombre en su causa, el Señor no lo sabe.
To subvert a man in his cause, the Lord approveth not.

¿Quién es aquel que ha dicho que se hace alguna cosa sin que el Señor lo ordene?
¿Quién será aquel que diga, que vino algo que el Señor no mandó?
Who is he that saith, and it cometh to pass, when the Lord commandeth it not?
Who is he who says, and it comes to pass, when the Lord doesn’t command it?
¿No vienen acaso de orden del Señor los males y los bienes?
¿De la boca del Altísimo no saldrá malo y bueno?
Out of the mouth of the most High proceedeth not evil and good?
Doesn’t evil and good come out of the mouth of the Most High?
Pues ¿por qué se ha de quejar hombre viviente del castigo de sus pecados?
¿Por qué murmura el hombre viviente, el hombre en su pecado?
Wherefore doth a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins?
Why should a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins?
Examinemos y escudriñemos nuestros pasos, y convirtámonos al Señor.
Escudriñemos nuestros caminos, y busquemos, y volvámonos á Jehová.
Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the LORD.

Levantemos al cielo, hacia el Señor, junto con las manos, nuestros corazones.

Nosotros nos portamos inicuamente, y provocamos, ¡oh Señor!, tu enojo; por eso te muestras inexorable.

Pusiste una nube delante de ti, para que no pudiesen llegar a tu presencia nuestras plegarias.
Te cubriste de nube, porque no pasase la oración nuestra.
Thou hast covered thyself with a cloud, that our prayer should not pass through.
You have covered yourself with a cloud, so that no prayer can pass through.
Tú nos has arrancado de cuajo y arrojado como basura en medio de los pueblos.
Raedura y abominación nos tornaste en medio de los pueblos.
Thou hast made us as the offscouring and refuse in the midst of the people.
You have made us an off-scouring and refuse in the middle of the peoples.
Han abierto todos los enemigos su boca contra nosotros.
Todos nuestros enemigos abrieron sobre nosotros su boca.
All our enemies have opened their mouths against us.
“All our enemies have opened their mouth wide against us.
Se convirtió la profecía en terror nuestro, y en lazo y en ruina nuestra.
Temor y lazo fué para nosotros, asolamiento y quebrantamiento.
Fear and a snare is come upon us, desolation and destruction.
Terror and the pit have come on us, devastation and destruction.”
Ríos de agua salen de mis ojos en vista del quebranto de la hija del pueblo mío.
Ríos de aguas echan mis ojos, por el quebrantamiento de la hija de mi pueblo.
Mine eye runneth down with rivers of water for the destruction of the daughter of my people.

Se deshacen mis ojos en continuo llanto, porque no hay reposo alguno,
Mis ojos destilan, y no cesan, porque no hay alivio,
Mine eye trickleth down, and ceaseth not, without any intermission,
My eye pours down and doesn’t cease, without any intermission,
hasta tanto el Señor vuelva desde el cielo su vista, y se ponga a mirar.
Hasta que Jehová mire y vea desde los cielos.

Las muchas lágrimas que he derramado por los desastres de todas las hijas o pueblos de mi patria, han consumido en mí todo el jugo o espíritu vital.
Mis ojos contristaron mi alma, por todas las hijas de mi ciudad.
Mine eye affecteth mine heart because of all the daughters of my city.

Como el ave en el cazadero, se apoderaron de mí mis enemigos sin que yo les diese motivo.
Mis enemigos me dieron caza como á ave, sin por qué.
Mine enemies chased me sore, like a bird, without cause.

Cayó en el lago o fosa el alma mía; han puesto la losa sobre mí.
Ataron mi vida en mazmorra, pusieron piedra sobre mí.

Las aguas de la tribulación descargaron como un diluvio sobre mi cabeza. Yo dije entonces: Perdido estoy.

y tú escuchaste mi voz; no cierres, pues, tus oídos a mis sollozos y clamores.

y las palabras malignas de los que me hacen la guerra, y todo cuanto traman continuamente contra mí.
Los dichos de los que contra mí se levantaron, y su designio contra mí todo el día.

¡Oh Señor!, tú los perseguirás con saña, y los exterminarás de debajo de los cielos.
Persíguelos en tu furor, y quebrántalos de debajo de los cielos, oh Jehová.
Persecute and destroy them in anger from under the heavens of the LORD.
