Mentre siamo durati, i nostri occhi si son consumati Dietro al nostro soccorso, che non è stato altro che vanità; Noi abbiam riguardato nella nostra vedetta Ad una gente che non potea salvare.

Aun nos han desfallecido nuestros ojos tras nuestro vano socorro: en nuestra esperanza aguardamos gente que no puede salvar.

As for us, our eyes as yet failed for our vain help: in our watching we have watched for a nation that could not save us.
