1Aconteció un sábado, al entrar él en casa de uno de los jefes de los fariseos para comer pan, que ellos le acechaban.
2Y he aquí que un hombre hidrópico estaba delante de él.
3Respondiendo Jesús, habló a los intérpretes de la ley y a los fariseos, diciendo: “¿Es lícito sanar en sábado?”
4Pero ellos callaron. Entonces él lo tomó, lo sanó y lo despidió.
5Y dirigiéndose a ellos, dijo: “¿Quién de ustedes, si su burro o su buey cae en un pozo, no lo saca inmediatamente en un día de reposo?”
6Y no pudieron replicarle a estas cosas.
7Observando cómo los invitados escogían los primeros asientos a la mesa, les refirió una parábola, diciéndoles:
8“Cuando seas invitado por alguno a unas bodas, no te sientes en el primer lugar, no sea que otro más distinguido que tú esté invitado por él,
9y viniendo el que te invitó a ti y a él, te diga: ‘Da lugar a éste’; y entonces comiences con vergüenza a ocupar el último lugar.
10Mas cuando seas invitado, ve y siéntate en el último lugar, para que cuando venga el que te invitó, te diga: ‘Amigo, sube más arriba’. Entonces tendrás gloria delante de los que se sientan contigo a la mesa.
11Porque cualquiera que se enaltece, será humillado; y el que se humilla, será enaltecido”.
12Dijo también al que le había invitado: “Cuando hagas comida o cena, no llames a tus amigos, ni a tus hermanos, ni a tus parientes, ni a vecinos ricos; no sea que ellos a su vez te vuelvan a invitar, y te sea recompensado.
13Mas cuando hagas banquete, llama a los pobres, los mancos, los cojos y los ciegos;
14y serás bienaventurado, porque ellos no te pueden recompensar, pero te será recompensado en la resurrección de los justos”.
15Oyendo esto uno de los que estaban sentados con él a la mesa, le dijo: “¡Bienaventurado el que coma pan en el Reino de Dios!”
16Entonces él le dijo: “Un hombre hizo una gran cena, e invitó a muchos.
17Y a la hora de la cena envió a su siervo a decir a los invitados: ‘Vengan, que ya todo está preparado’.
18Y todos a una comenzaron a excusarse. “El primero dijo: ‘He comprado una hacienda, y necesito ir a verla; te ruego que me excuses’.
19“Otro dijo: ‘He comprado cinco yuntas de bueyes, y voy a probarlos; te ruego que me excuses’.
20“Y otro dijo: ‘Acabo de casarme, y por tanto no puedo ir’.
21“Vuelto el siervo, hizo saber estas cosas a su señor. Entonces enojado el padre de familia, dijo a su siervo: ‘Ve pronto por las plazas y las calles de la ciudad, y trae acá a los pobres, los mancos, los cojos y los ciegos’.
22“Y dijo el siervo: ‘Señor, se ha hecho como mandaste, y aún hay lugar’.
23“Dijo el señor al siervo: ‘Ve por los caminos y por los vallados, y fuérzalos a entrar, para que se llene mi casa.
24Porque les digo que ninguno de aquellos hombres que fueron invitados gustará mi cena’”.
25Grandes multitudes iban con él; y volviéndose, les dijo:
26“Si alguno viene a mí, y no aborrece a su padre, y madre, y mujer, e hijos, y hermanos, y hermanas, y aun también su propia vida, no puede ser mi discípulo.
27Y el que no lleva su cruz y viene en pos de mí, no puede ser mi discípulo.
28Porque ¿quién de ustedes, queriendo edificar una torre, no se sienta primero y calcula los gastos, a ver si tiene lo que necesita para acabarla?
29No sea que después que haya puesto el cimiento, y no pueda acabarla, todos los que lo vean comiencen a hacer burla de él,
30diciendo: ‘Este hombre comenzó a edificar, y no pudo acabar’.
31¿O qué rey, al marchar a la guerra contra otro rey, no se sienta primero y considera si puede hacer frente con diez mil al que viene contra él con veinte mil?
32Y si no puede, cuando el otro está todavía lejos, le envía una embajada y le pide condiciones de paz.
33Así, pues, cualquiera de ustedes que no renuncia a todo lo que posee, no puede ser mi discípulo.
34“Buena es la sal; mas si la sal se hace insípida, ¿con qué se sazonará?
35Ni para la tierra ni para el muladar es útil; la arrojan fuera. El que tiene oídos para oír, oiga”.

1Y ACONTECIÓ que entrando en casa de un príncipe de los Fariseos un sábado á comer pan, ellos le acechaban.
2Y he aquí un hombre hidrópico estaba delante de él.
3Y respondiendo Jesús, habló á los doctores de la ley y á los Fariseos, diciendo: ¿Es lícito sanar en sábado?
4Y ellos callaron. Entonces él tomándole, le sanó, y despidióle.
5Y respondiendo á ellos dijo: ¿El asno ó el buey de cuál de vosotros caerá en algún pozo, y no lo sacará luego en día de sábado?
6Y no le podían replicar á estas cosas.
7Y observando cómo escogían los primeros asientos á la mesa, propuso una parábola á los convidados, diciéndoles:
8Cuando fueres convidado de alguno á bodas, no te sientes en el primer lugar, no sea que otro más honrado que tú esté por él convidado,
9Y viniendo el que te llamó á ti y á él, te diga: Da lugar á éste: y entonces comiences con vergüenza á tener el lugar último.
10Mas cuando fueres convidado, ve, y siéntate en el postrer lugar; porque cuando viniere el que te llamó, te diga: Amigo, sube arriba: entonces tendrás gloria delante de los que juntamente se asientan á la mesa.
11Porque cualquiera que se ensalza, será humillado; y el que se humilla, será ensalzado.
12Y dijo también al que le había convidado: Cuando haces comida ó cena, no llames á tus amigos, ni á tus hermanos, ni á tus parientes, ni á vecinos ricos; porque también ellos no te vuelvan á convidar, y te sea hecha compensación.
13Mas cuando haces banquete, llama á los pobres, los mancos, los cojos, los ciegos;
14Y serás bienaventurado; porque no te pueden retribuir; mas te será recompensado en la resurrección de los justos.
15Y oyendo esto uno de los que juntamente estaban sentados á la mesa, le dijo: Bienaventurado el que comerá pan en el reino de los cielos.
16El entonces le dijo: Un hombre hizo una grande cena, y convidó á muchos.
17Y á la hora de la cena envió á su siervo á decir á los convidados: Venid, que ya está todo aparejado.
18Y comenzaron todos á una á excusarse. El primero le dijo: He comprado una hacienda, y necesito salir y verla; te ruego que me des por excusado.
19Y el otro dijo: He comprado cinco yuntas de bueyes, y voy á probarlos; ruégote que me des por excusado.
20Y el otro dijo: Acabo de casarme, y por tanto no puedo ir.
21Y vuelto el siervo, hizo saber estas cosas á su señor. Entonces enojado el padre de la familia, dijo á su siervo: Ve presto por las plazas y por las calles de la ciudad, y mete acá los pobres, los mancos, y cojos, y ciegos.
22Y dijo el siervo: Señor, hecho es como mandaste, y aun hay lugar.
23Y dijo el señor al siervo: Ve por los caminos y por los vallados, y fuérzalos á entrar, para que se llene mi casa.
24Porque os digo que ninguno de aquellos hombres que fueron llamados, gustará mi cena.
25Y muchas gentes iban con él; y volviéndose les dijo:
26Si alguno viene á mí, y no aborrece á su padre, y madre, y mujer, é hijos, y hermanos, y hermanas, y aun también su vida, no puede ser mi discípulo.
27Y cualquiera que no trae su cruz, y viene en pos de mí, no puede ser mi discípulo.
28Porque ¿cuál de vosotros, queriendo edificar una torre, no cuenta primero sentado los gastos, si tiene lo que necesita para acabarla?
29Porque después que haya puesto el fundamento, y no pueda acabarla, todos los que lo vieren, no comiencen á hacer burla de él,
30Diciendo: Este hombre comenzó á edificar, y no pudo acabar.
31¿O cuál rey, habiendo de ir á hacer guerra contra otro rey, sentándose primero no consulta si puede salir al encuentro con diez mil al que viene contra él con veinte mil?
32De otra manera, cuando aun el otro está lejos, le ruega por la paz, enviándole embajada.
33Así pues, cualquiera de vosotros que no renuncia á todas las cosas que posee, no puede ser mi discípulo.
34Buena es la sal; mas si aun la sal fuere desvanecida, ¿con qué se adobará?
35Ni para la tierra, ni para el muladar es buena; fuera la arrojan. Quien tiene oídos para oir, oiga.

1And it came to pass, as he went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread on the sabbath day, that they watched him.
2And, behold, there was a certain man before him which had the dropsy.
3And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day?
4And they held their peace. And he took him, and healed him, and let him go;
5And answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on the sabbath day?
6And they could not answer him again to these things.
7And he put forth a parable to those which were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying unto them,
8When thou art bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honourable man than thou be bidden of him;
9And he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room.
10But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee.
11For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
12Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee.
13But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind:
14And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.
15And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these things, he said unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.
16Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many:
17And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready.
18And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused.
19And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused.
20And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.
21So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind.
22And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room.
23And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.
24For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper.
25And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto them,
26If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
27And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.
28For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?
29Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him,
30Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.
31Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?
32Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace.
33So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.
34Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned?
35It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

1When he went into the house of one of the rulers of the Pharisees on a Sabbath to eat bread, they were watching him.
2Behold, a certain man who had dropsy was in front of him.
3Jesus, answering, spoke to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”
4But they were silent. He took him, and healed him, and let him go.
5He answered them, “Which of you, if your son or an ox fell into a well, wouldn’t immediately pull him out on a Sabbath day?”
6They couldn’t answer him regarding these things.
7He spoke a parable to those who were invited, when he noticed how they chose the best seats, and said to them,
8“When you are invited by anyone to a wedding feast, don’t sit in the best seat, since perhaps someone more honorable than you might be invited by him,
9and he who invited both of you would come and tell you, ‘Make room for this person.’ Then you would begin, with shame, to take the lowest place.
10But when you are invited, go and sit in the lowest place, so that when he who invited you comes, he may tell you, ‘Friend, move up higher.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all who sit at the table with you.
11For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”
12He also said to the one who had invited him, “When you make a dinner or a supper, don’t call your friends, nor your brothers, nor your kinsmen, nor rich neighbors, or perhaps they might also return the favor, and pay you back.
13But when you make a feast, ask the poor, the maimed, the lame, or the blind;
14and you will be blessed, because they don’t have the resources to repay you. For you will be repaid in the resurrection of the righteous.”
15When one of those who sat at the table with him heard these things, he said to him, “Blessed is he who will feast in God’s Kingdom!”
16But he said to him, “A certain man made a great supper, and he invited many people.
17He sent out his servant at supper time to tell those who were invited, ‘Come, for everything is ready now.’
18They all as one began to make excuses. “The first said to him, ‘I have bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please have me excused.’
19“Another said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I must go try them out. Please have me excused.’
20“Another said, ‘I have married a wife, and therefore I can’t come.’
21“That servant came, and told his lord these things. Then the master of the house, being angry, said to his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in the poor, maimed, blind, and lame.’
22“The servant said, ‘Lord, it is done as you commanded, and there is still room.’
23“The lord said to the servant, ‘Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.
24For I tell you that none of those men who were invited will taste of my supper. For many are called, but few are chosen.’”
25Now great multitudes were going with him. He turned and said to them,
26“If anyone comes to me, and doesn’t disregard his own father, mother, wife, children, brothers, and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he can’t be my disciple.
27Whoever doesn’t bear his own cross and come after me, can’t be my disciple.
28For which of you, desiring to build a tower, doesn’t first sit down and count the cost, to see if he has enough to complete it?
29Or perhaps, when he has laid a foundation and isn’t able to finish, everyone who sees begins to mock him,
30saying, ‘This man began to build and wasn’t able to finish.’
31Or what king, as he goes to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand?
32Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends an envoy and asks for conditions of peace.
33So therefore, whoever of you who doesn’t renounce all that he has, he can’t be my disciple.
34“Salt is good, but if the salt becomes flat and tasteless, with what do you season it?
35It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile. It is thrown out. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”
