Y SE llegaban á él todos los publicanos y pecadores á oirle.
Then drew near unto him all the publicans and sinners for to hear him.

Y los fariseos y escribas murmuraban de eso diciendo: Mirad cómo se familiariza con los pecadores, y come con ellos.

And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them.

Entonces les propuso esta parábola:

¿Quién hay de vosotros que teniendo cien ovejas, y habiendo perdido una de ellas, no deja las noventa y nueve en la dehesa, y no vaya en busca de la que se perdió, hasta encontrarla?
¿Qué hombre de vosotros, teniendo cien ovejas, si perdiere una de ellas, no deja las noventa y nueve en el desierto, y va á la que se perdió, hasta que la halle?
What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?
“Which of you men, if you had one hundred sheep and lost one of them, wouldn’t leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness and go after the one that was lost, until he found it?
Hallándose se la pone sobre los hombros muy gozoso;
Y hallada, la pone sobre sus hombros gozoso;
And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing.
When he has found it, he carries it on his shoulders, rejoicing.
y llegado a casa, convoca a sus amigos y vecinos, diciéndoles: Regocijaos conmigo, porque he hallado la oveja mía, que se me había perdido.
Y viniendo á casa, junta á los amigos y á los vecinos, diciéndoles: Dadme el parabién, porque he hallado mi oveja que se había perdido.
And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost.
When he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!’
Os digo que de este modo habrá más fiesta en el cielo por un pecador que se arrepiente, que por noventa y nueve justos, que no tienen necesidad de penitencia.
Os digo, que así habrá más gozo en el cielo de un pecador que se arrepiente, que de noventa y nueve justos, que no necesitan arrepentimiento.
I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.
I tell you that even so there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents, than over ninety-nine righteous people who need no repentance.
O ¿qué mujer, teniendo diez dracmas o monedas de plata, si pierde una, no enciende la luz, y barre bien la casa, y lo registra todo, hasta dar con ella?
¿O qué mujer que tiene diez dracmas, si perdiere una dracma, no enciende el candil, y barre la casa, y busca con diligencia hasta hallarla?
Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it?
“Or what woman, if she had ten drachma coins, if she lost one drachma coin, wouldn’t light a lamp, sweep the house, and seek diligently until she found it?
Y hallándola, convoca a sus amigas y vecinas, diciendo: Alegraos conmigo, que ya he hallado la dracma que había perdido.
Y cuando la hubiere hallado, junta las amigas y las vecinas, diciendo: Dadme el parabién, porque he hallado la dracma que había perdido.
And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbours together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost.
When she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the drachma which I had lost!’
Así os digo yo, que harán fiesta los ángeles de Dios por un pecador que haga penitencia.
Así os digo que hay gozo delante de los ángeles de Dios por un pecador que se arrepiente.
Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.
Even so, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner repenting.”
Añadió también: Un hombre tenía dos hijos,
Y dijo: Un hombre tenía dos hijos;
And he said, A certain man had two sons:
He said, “A certain man had two sons.
de los cuales el más mozo dijo a su padre: Padre, dame la parte de herencia que me toca. Y el padre repartió entre los dos la hacienda.
Y el menor de ellos dijo á su padre: Padre, dame la parte de la hacienda que me pertenece: y les repartió la hacienda.
And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living.

No pasaron muchos días cuando aquel hijo más mozo, recogidas todas sus cosas, se marchó a un país muy remoto, y allí malbarató todo su caudal, viviendo disolutamente.
Y no muchos días después, juntándolo todo el hijo menor, partió lejos á una provincia apartada; y allí desperdició su hacienda viviendo perdidamente.

Después que lo gastó todo, sobrevino una gran hambre en aquel país, y comenzó a padecer necesidad.

And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want.

De resultas se puso a servir a un morador de aquella tierra, el cual le envió a su granja a guardar cerdos.
Y fué y se llegó á uno de los ciudadanos de aquella tierra, el cual le envió á su hacienda para que apacentase los puercos.
And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.

Allí deseaba con ansia henchir su vientre de las algarrobas y mondaduras que comían los cerdos; y nadie se las daba.

And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!

No, yo iré a mi padre y le diré: Padre mío, pequé contra el cielo, y contra ti;

I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,

ya no soy digno de ser llamado hijo tuyo; trátame como a uno de tus jornaleros.

And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.

Con esta resolución se puso en camino para la casa de su padre. Estando todavía lejos, le avistó su padre, y se le enternecieron las entrañas, y corriendo a su encuentro, le echó los brazos al cuello, y le dio mil besos.
Y levantándose, vino á su padre. Y como aun estuviese lejos, viólo su padre, y fué movido á misericordia, y corrió, y echóse sobre su cuello, y besóle.
And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.

Le dijo el hijo: Padre mío, yo he pecado contra el cielo y contra ti; ya no soy digno de ser llamado hijo tuyo.
Y el hijo le dijo: Padre, he pecado contra el cielo, y contra ti, y ya no soy digno de ser llamado tu hijo.
And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son.
The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’
Mas el padre, por respuesta dijo a sus criados: Pronto traed aquí luego el vestido más precioso que hay en casa, y ponédselo, ponedle un anillo en el dedo, y calzadle las sandalias;
Mas el padre dijo á sus siervos: Sacad el principal vestido, y vestidle; y poned un anillo en su mano, y zapatos en sus pies.
But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet:
“But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring out the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet.
y traed un ternero cebado, matadlo, y comamos, y celebremos un banquete;
Y traed el becerro grueso, y matadlo, y comamos, y hagamos fiesta:
And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry:
Bring the fattened calf, kill it, and let’s eat and celebrate;
pues que este hijo mío estaba muerto, y ha resucitado; se había perdido, y ha sido hallado. Y con eso dieron principio al banquete.
Porque este mi hijo muerto era, y ha revivido; habíase perdido, y es hallado. Y comenzaron á regocijarse.
For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.

Estaba a la sazón el hijo mayor en el campo; y a la vuelta, estando ya cerca de su casa, oyó el concierto de música y el baile;
Y su hijo el mayor estaba en el campo; el cual como vino, y llegó cerca de casa, oyó la sinfonía y las danzas;
Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard musick and dancing.

y llamó a uno de su criados, y le preguntó qué venía a ser aquello.
Y llamando á uno de los criados, preguntóle qué era aquello.
And he called one of the servants, and asked what these things meant.
He called one of the servants to him and asked what was going on.
El cual le respondió: Ha vuelto tu hermano, y tu padre ha mandado matar un becerro cebado, por haberle recobrado en buena salud.
Y él le dijo: Tu hermano ha venido; y tu padre ha muerto el becerro grueso, por haberle recibido salvo.
And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound.
He said to him, ‘Your brother has come, and your father has killed the fattened calf, because he has received him back safe and healthy.’
Al oír esto, se indignó, y no quería entrar. Salió, pues, su padre afuera y empezó a instarle con ruegos.
Entonces se enojó, y no quería entrar. Salió por tanto su padre, y le rogaba que entrase.
And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came his father out, and intreated him.
But he was angry and would not go in. Therefore his father came out and begged him.
Pero él le replicó diciendo: Es bueno que hace tantos años que te sirvo, sin haberte jamás desobedecido en cosa alguna que me hayas mandado, y nunca me has dado un cabrito para merendar con mis amigos;
Mas él respondiendo, dijo al padre: He aquí tantos años te sirvo, no habiendo traspasado jamás tu mandamiento, y nunca me has dado un cabrito para gozarme con mis amigos:
And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends:
But he answered his father, ‘Behold, these many years I have served you, and I never disobeyed a commandment of yours, but you never gave me a goat, that I might celebrate with my friends.
y ahora que ha venido este hijo tuyo, el cual ha consumido su hacienda con meretrices, has hecho matar para él un becerro cebado.
Mas cuando vino éste tu hijo, que ha consumido tu hacienda con rameras, has matado para él el becerro grueso.
But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf.
But when this your son came, who has devoured your living with prostitutes, you killed the fattened calf for him.’
Hijo mío, respondió el padre, tú siempre estás conmigo, y todos los bienes míos son tu-yos;
El entonces le dijo: Hijo, tú siempre estás conmigo, y todas mis cosas son tuyas.
And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine.
“He said to him, ‘Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours.
mas ya ves que era muy justo el tener un banquete y regocijarnos, por cuanto tu hermano había muerto, y ha resucitado; estaba perdido, y se ha hallado.
Mas era menester hacer fiesta y holgarnos, porque este tu hermano muerto era, y ha revivido; habíase perdido, y es hallado.
It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.
But it was appropriate to celebrate and be glad, for this, your brother, was dead, and is alive again. He was lost, and is found.’”
