1En cierta ocasión Jesús estaba enseñando en el Templo a la gente, diciéndoles la buena noticia. Y algunos de los jefes de los sacerdotes y maestros religiosos vinieron con los ancianos.
2Entonces le preguntaron: “Dinos: ¿con qué autoridad estás haciendo esto? ¿Quién te dio el derecho para hacerlo?”
3“Déjenme hacerles una pregunta también”, respondió Jesús. “Díganme:
4el bautismo de Juan, ¿provenía del cielo, o era solo un bautismo humano?”
5Entonces ellos consultaron entre sí, diciendo: “Si decimos que venía del cielo, él nos preguntará: ‘Entonces ¿por qué no creyeron en él?’
6Y si decimos que solo era un bautismo humano, todos nos apedrearán porque ellos están seguros de que Juan era un profeta”.
7Así que respondieron, diciendo: “No sabemos de dónde venía”.
8A lo cual Jesús respondió: “Entonces yo no les diré con qué autoridad hago lo que hago”.
9Luego comenzó a contarle un relato a las personas: “Había una vez un hombre que sembró una viña, la arrendó a unos granjeros y se fue a vivir a otro país por un largo tiempo.
10Cuando llegó el tiempo de la cosecha, el dueño envió un siervo donde los granjeros para que recogiera de la cosecha, pero los granjeros golpearon al siervo y lo echaron con las manos vacías.
11Así que el propietario envió a otro siervo, pero también lo golpearon y lo maltrataron terriblemente, y lo echaron con las manos vacías.
12Entonces el propietario envió a un tercer siervo, y ellos lo hirieron, y lo lanzaron fuera.
13“Luego el propietario de la viña se preguntó a sí mismo: ‘¿Qué haré? Ya sé, enviaré a mi hijo, al que amo. Quizás a él lo respetarán’.
14Pero cuando lo vieron venir, los granjeros debatieron entre ellos y dijeron: ‘Este es el heredero del dueño. ¡Matémoslo! Así podremos quedarnos con su herencia’.
15Entonces lo lanzaron fuera de la viña y lo mataron. Ahora, ¿qué hará el dueño de la viña con ellos?
16Vendrá y los matará y le entregará la viña a otros”. Cuando ellos oyeron este relato, dijeron: “¡Ojalá que nunca ocurra eso!”
17Pero Jesús los miró y dijo: “Entonces ¿por qué dicen las Escrituras: ‘La piedra que los constructores rechazaron se ha convertido en la piedra angular’?
18Todo el que se tropieza con esa piedra, se hará pedazos; y aplastará a aquellos a quienes les caiga encima”.
19E inmediatamente los maestros religiosos y los jefes de los sacerdotes quisieron arrestarlo porque se dieron cuenta de que el relato que Jesús había contado estaba dirigido contra a ellos, pero tenían miedo de lo que la gente pudiera hacer.
20Así que esperando la oportunidad, enviaron espías que se hicieron pasar por hombres sinceros. Ellos trataban de sorprender a Jesús diciendo algo que les permitiera entregarlo al poder y autoridad del gobernador.
21Entonces le dijeron: “Maestro, sabemos que enseñas lo que es recto, y que no te dejas persuadir por la opinión de los demás. Tú realmente enseñas el camino de Dios.
22¿Deberíamos pagar los impuestos al Cesar, o no?”
23Pero Jesús se dio cuenta de su trampa, y les dijo:
24“Muéstrenme una moneda, un denario. ¿De quién es la imagen y la inscripción que están en ella?” “Es del césar”, respondieron ellos.
25“Entonces páguenle al César lo que le corresponde al César, y páguenle a Dios lo que le corresponde a Dios”, les dijo.
26Y ellos no pudieron atraparlo por lo que le dijo a la gente. Quedaron pasmados con esta respuesta, y se quedaron en silencio.
27Entonces vinieron unos Saduceos, quienes no creen en la resurrección, y le hicieron a Jesús la siguiente pregunta:
28“Maestro”, comenzaron, “Moisés nos dio una ley que dice que si un hombre casado muere y deja a su esposa sin hijos, entonces su hermano debe casarse con la viuda y tener hijos por ese hermano que murió.
29Había siete hermanos. El primero tuvo una esposa y murió sin tener hijos.
30Luego el segundo
31y el tercer hermano se casaron con ella. Al final todos los siete hermanos se casaron con ella, y murieron sin tener hijos.
32Finalmente ella también murió.
33Ahora, ¿cuál de todos será su esposo en la resurrección, siendo que todos los siete hermanos se casaron con ella?”
34“En esta era la gente se casa y se da en casamiento”, explicó Jesús.
35“Pero los que sean dignos de participar del mundo venidero y de la resurrección de entre los muertos no se casarán ni se darán en casamiento.
36Ya no podrán morir; serán como ángeles y son hijos de Dios puesto que son hijos de la resurrección.
37Pero en cuanto a la pregunta sobre si los muertos resucitarán, incluso Moisés demostró este hecho cuando escribió sobre el arbusto ardiente, cuando llama al Señor como ‘el Dios de Abraham, el Dios de Isaac, y el Dios de Jacob’.
38Él no es el Dios de los muertos, sino de los vivos, porque para él ellos aún están vivos”.
39Algunos de los maestros religiosos respondieron: “Esa fue una buena respuesta, Maestro”.
40Y después de esto, ninguno se atrevió a hacerle más preguntas.
41Entonces Jesús les preguntó: “¿Por qué se dice que Cristo es el hijo de David?
42Pues el mismo David dice en el libro de los salmos: ‘El Señor le dijo a mi Señor: “Siéntate a mi diestra
43hasta que ponga a tus enemigos como estrado de tus pies”’.
44David lo llama ‘Señor’. ¿Cómo entonces, puede ser el hijo de David?”
45Mientras todos estaban atentos, dijo a sus discípulos:
46“Cuídense de los líderes religiosos a quienes les gusta caminar por ahí con batas largas, y les encanta que los saluden en las plazas, y tener los mejores asientos en las sinagogas y lugares de honor en los banquetes.
47Ellos engañan a las viudas y les quitan lo que tienen, y ocultan el tipo de personas que son realmente por medio de sus largas oraciones. Ellos recibirán una condenación severa en el juicio”.

1Y ACONTECIÓ un día, que enseñando él al pueblo en el templo, y anunciando el evangelio, llegáronse los príncipes de los sacerdotes y los escribas, con los ancianos;
2Y le hablaron, diciendo: Dinos: ¿con qué potestad haces estas cosas? ¿ó quién es el que te ha dado esta potestad?
3Respondiendo entonces Jesús, les dijo: Os preguntaré yo también una palabra; respondedme:
4El bautismo de Juan, ¿era del cielo, ó de los hombres?
5Mas ellos pensaban dentro de sí, diciendo: Si dijéremos, del cielo, dirá: ¿Por qué, pues, no le creísteis?
6Y si dijéremos, de los hombres, todo el pueblo nos apedreará: porque están ciertos que Juan era profeta.
7Y respondieron que no sabían de dónde.
8Entonces Jesús les dijo: Ni yo os digo con qué potestad hago estas cosas.
9Y comenzó á decir al pueblo esta parábola: Un hombre plantó una viña, y arrendóla á labradores, y se ausentó por mucho tiempo.
10Y al tiempo, envió un siervo á los labradores, para que le diesen del fruto de la viña; mas los labradores le hirieron, y enviaron vacío.
11Y volvió á enviar otro siervo; mas ellos á éste también, herido y afrentado, le enviaron vacío.
12Y volvió á enviar al tercer siervo; mas ellos también á éste echaron herido.
13Entonces el señor de la viña dijo: ¿Qué haré? Enviaré mi hijo amado: quizás cuando á éste vieren, tendrán respeto.
14Mas los labradores, viéndole, pensaron entre sí, diciendo: Este es el heredero; venid, matémosle para que la heredad sea nuestra.
15Y echáronle fuera de la viña, y le mataron. ¿Qué pues, les hará el señor de la viña?
16Vendrá, y destruirá á estos labradores, y dará su viña á otros. Y como ellos lo oyeron, dijeron: ¡Dios nos libre!
17Mas él mirándolos, dice: ¿Qué pues es lo que está escrito: La piedra que condenaron los edificadores, ésta fué por cabeza de esquina?
18Cualquiera que cayere sobre aquella piedra, será quebrantado; mas sobre el que la piedra cayere, le desmenuzará.
19Y procuraban los príncipes de los sacerdotes y los escribas echarle mano en aquella hora, porque entendieron que contra ellos había dicho esta parábola: mas temieron al pueblo.
20Y acechándole enviaron espías que se simulasen justos, para sorprenderle en palabras, para que le entregasen al principado y á la potestad del presidente.
21Los cuales le preguntaron, diciendo: Maestro, sabemos que dices y enseñas bien, y que no tienes respeto á persona; antes enseñas el camino de Dios con verdad.
22¿Nos es lícito dar tributo á César, ó no?
23Mas él, entendiendo la astucia de ellos, les dijo: ¿Por qué me tentáis?
24Mostradme la moneda. ¿De quién tiene la imagen y la inscripción? Y respondiendo dijeron: De César.
25Entonces les dijo: Pues dad á César lo que es de César; y lo que es de Dios, á Dios.
26Y no pudieron reprender sus palabras delante del pueblo: antes maravillados de su respuesta, callaron.
27Y llegándose unos de los Saduceos, los cuales niegan haber resurrección, le preguntaron,
28Diciendo: Maestro, Moisés nos escribió: Si el hermano de alguno muriere teniendo mujer, y muriere sin hijos, que su hermano tome la mujer, y levante simiente á su hermano.
29Fueron, pues, siete hermanos: y el primero tomó mujer, y murió sin hijos.
30Y la tomó el segundo, el cual también murió sin hijos.
31Y la tomó el tercero: asimismo también todos siete: y murieron sin dejar prole.
32Y á la postre de todos murió también la mujer.
33En la resurrección, pues, ¿mujer de cuál de ellos será? porque los siete la tuvieron por mujer.
34Entonces respondiendo Jesús, les dijo: Los hijos de este siglo se casan, y son dados en casamiento:
35Mas los que fueren tenidos por dignos de aquel siglo y de la resurrección de los muertos, ni se casan, ni son dados en casamiento:
36Porque no pueden ya más morir: porque son iguales á los ángeles, y son hijos de Dios, cuando son hijos de la resurrección.
37Y que los muertos hayan de resucitar, aun Moisés lo enseñó en el pasaje de la zarza, cuando llama al Señor: Dios de Abraham, y Dios de Isaac, y Dios de Jacob.
38Porque Dios no es Dios de muertos, mas de vivos: porque todos viven á él.
39Y respondiéndole unos de los escribas, dijeron: Maestro, bien has dicho.
40Y no osaron más preguntarle algo.
41Y él les dijo: ¿Cómo dicen que el Cristo es hijo de David?
42Y el mismo David dice en el libro de los Salmos: Dijo el Señor á mi Señor: Siéntate á mi diestra,
43Entre tanto que pongo tus enemigos por estrado de tus pies.
44Así que David le llama Señor: ¿cómo pues es su hijo?
45Y oyéndole todo el pueblo, dijo á sus discípulos:
46Guardaos de los escribas, que quieren andar con ropas largas, y aman las salutaciones en las plazas, y las primeras sillas en las sinagogas, y los primeros asientos en las cenas;
47Que devoran las casas de las viudas, poniendo por pretexto la larga oración: éstos recibirán mayor condenación.

1And it came to pass, that on one of those days, as he taught the people in the temple, and preached the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes came upon him with the elders,
2And spake unto him, saying, Tell us, by what authority doest thou these things? or who is he that gave thee this authority?
3And he answered and said unto them, I will also ask you one thing; and answer me:
4The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men?
5And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then believed ye him not?
6But and if we say, Of men; all the people will stone us: for they be persuaded that John was a prophet.
7And they answered, that they could not tell whence it was.
8And Jesus said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.
9Then began he to speak to the people this parable; A certain man planted a vineyard, and let it forth to husbandmen, and went into a far country for a long time.
10And at the season he sent a servant to the husbandmen, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard: but the husbandmen beat him, and sent him away empty.
11And again he sent another servant: and they beat him also, and entreated him shamefully, and sent him away empty.
12And again he sent a third: and they wounded him also, and cast him out.
13Then said the lord of the vineyard, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: it may be they will reverence him when they see him.
14But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir: come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.
15So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore shall the lord of the vineyard do unto them?
16He shall come and destroy these husbandmen, and shall give the vineyard to others. And when they heard it, they said, God forbid.
17And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner?
18Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.
19And the chief priests and the scribes the same hour sought to lay hands on him; and they feared the people: for they perceived that he had spoken this parable against them.
20And they watched him, and sent forth spies, which should feign themselves just men, that they might take hold of his words, that so they might deliver him unto the power and authority of the governor.
21And they asked him, saying, Master, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, neither acceptest thou the person of any, but teachest the way of God truly:
22Is it lawful for us to give tribute unto Cæsar, or no?
23But he perceived their craftiness, and said unto them, Why tempt ye me?
24Shew me a penny. Whose image and superscription hath it? They answered and said, Cæsar’s.
25And he said unto them, Render therefore unto Cæsar the things which be Cæsar’s, and unto God the things which be God’s.
26And they could not take hold of his words before the people: and they marvelled at his answer, and held their peace.
27Then came to him certain of the Sadducees, which deny that there is any resurrection; and they asked him,
28Saying, Master, Moses wrote unto us, If any man’s brother die, having a wife, and he die without children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
29There were therefore seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and died without children.
30And the second took her to wife, and he died childless.
31And the third took her; and in like manner the seven also: and they left no children, and died.
32Last of all the woman died also.
33Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them is she? for seven had her to wife.
34And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage:
35But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage:
36Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.
37Now that the dead are raised, even Moses shewed at the bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.
38For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him.
39Then certain of the scribes answering said, Master, thou hast well said.
40And after that they durst not ask him any question at all.
41And he said unto them, How say they that Christ is David’s son?
42And David himself saith in the book of Psalms, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,
43Till I make thine enemies thy footstool.
44David therefore calleth him Lord, how is he then his son?
45Then in the audience of all the people he said unto his disciples,
46Beware of the scribes, which desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts;
47Which devour widows’ houses, and for a shew make long prayers: the same shall receive greater damnation.

1On one of those days, as he was teaching the people in the temple and preaching the Good News, the priests and scribes came to him with the elders.
2They asked him, “Tell us: by what authority do you do these things? Or who is giving you this authority?”
3He answered them, “I also will ask you one question. Tell me:
4the baptism of John, was it from heaven, or from men?”
5They reasoned with themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say, ‘Why didn’t you believe him?’
6But if we say, ‘From men,’ all the people will stone us, for they are persuaded that John was a prophet.”
7They answered that they didn’t know where it was from.
8Jesus said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.”
9He began to tell the people this parable: “A man planted a vineyard and rented it out to some farmers, and went into another country for a long time.
10At the proper season, he sent a servant to the farmers to collect his share of the fruit of the vineyard. But the farmers beat him and sent him away empty.
11He sent yet another servant, and they also beat him and treated him shamefully, and sent him away empty.
12He sent yet a third, and they also wounded him and threw him out.
13The lord of the vineyard said, ‘What shall I do? I will send my beloved son. It may be that seeing him, they will respect him.’
14“But when the farmers saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, ‘This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.’
15Then they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do to them?
16He will come and destroy these farmers, and will give the vineyard to others.” When they heard that, they said, “May that never be!”
17But he looked at them and said, “Then what is this that is written, ‘The stone which the builders rejected was made the chief cornerstone’?
18Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces, but it will crush whomever it falls on to dust.”
19The chief priests and the scribes sought to lay hands on him that very hour, but they feared the people—for they knew he had spoken this parable against them.
20They watched him and sent out spies, who pretended to be righteous, that they might trap him in something he said, so as to deliver him up to the power and authority of the governor.
21They asked him, “Teacher, we know that you say and teach what is right, and aren’t partial to anyone, but truly teach the way of God.
22Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”
23But he perceived their craftiness, and said to them, “Why do you test me?
24Show me a denarius. Whose image and inscription are on it?” They answered, “Caesar’s.”
25He said to them, “Then give to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”
26They weren’t able to trap him in his words before the people. They marveled at his answer and were silent.
27Some of the Sadducees came to him, those who deny that there is a resurrection.
28They asked him, “Teacher, Moses wrote to us that if a man’s brother dies having a wife, and he is childless, his brother should take the wife and raise up children for his brother.
29There were therefore seven brothers. The first took a wife, and died childless.
30The second took her as wife, and he died childless.
31The third took her, and likewise the seven all left no children, and died.
32Afterward the woman also died.
33Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them will she be? For the seven had her as a wife.”
34Jesus said to them, “The children of this age marry and are given in marriage.
35But those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage.
36For they can’t die any more, for they are like the angels and are children of God, being children of the resurrection.
37But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed at the bush, when he called the Lord ‘The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’
38Now he is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for all are alive to him.”
39Some of the scribes answered, “Teacher, you speak well.”
40They didn’t dare to ask him any more questions.
41He said to them, “Why do they say that the Christ is David’s son?
42David himself says in the book of Psalms, ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand,
43until I make your enemies the footstool of your feet.”’
44“David therefore calls him Lord, so how is he his son?”
45In the hearing of all the people, he said to his disciples,
46“Beware of those scribes who like to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the marketplaces, the best seats in the synagogues, and the best places at feasts;
47who devour widows’ houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. These will receive greater condemnation.”
