1Se acercaba la fiesta de los panes sin levadura, también llamada Pascua.
2Los jefes de los sacerdotes y los maestros de la ley buscaban la manera de acabar con Jesús, pero le tenían miedo a la gente.
3Entonces entró Satanás en Judas, uno de los doce, al que llamaban Iscariote.
4Este fue a los jefes de los sacerdotes y a los capitanes del templo para ponerse de acuerdo con ellos en cómo les entregaría a Jesús.
5Ellos se alegraron y prometieron darle dinero.
6Judas aceptó, y comenzó a buscar la oportunidad de entregarles a Jesús cuando no hubiera nadie.
7Cuando llegó el día de la fiesta de los panes sin levadura, en que se sacrificaba el cordero de la Pascua,
8Jesús llamó a Pedro y a Juan, y les dijo: —Vayan y preparen todo para que comamos la Pascua.
9Ellos le preguntaron: ―¿Dónde quieres que la preparemos?
10Él les contestó: ―Al entrar ustedes en la ciudad, encontrarán a un hombre que lleva un cántaro de agua. Síganlo hasta la casa en que entre,
11y díganle al dueño de la casa: “El Maestro quiere saber cuál es la sala donde va a comer la Pascua con sus discípulos”.
12Él les mostrará una sala grande y amueblada, en el piso de arriba. Preparen allí la cena.
13Ellos se fueron y encontraron todo tal como Jesús les había dicho. Así que prepararon la Pascua.
14Cuando llegó la hora, Jesús y sus apóstoles se sentaron a la mesa.
15Él les dijo: ―Había deseado muchísimo comer esta Pascua con ustedes, antes que sufra.
16Pues les aseguro que no volveré a comerla hasta que tenga su cumplimiento en el reino de Dios.
17Luego tomó la copa, dio gracias y dijo: ―Tomen esto y repártanlo entre ustedes.
18Pues yo les aseguro que no volveré a beber del fruto de la vid hasta que venga el reino de Dios.
19Entonces tomó el pan, dio gracias por él, lo partió, se lo dio a ellos y les dijo: ―Este pan es mi cuerpo, que es entregado por ustedes. Hagan esto para que se acuerden de mí.
20Después de la cena, tomó la copa y dijo: ―Esta copa es el nuevo pacto en mi sangre que es derramada por todos ustedes.
21Pero la mano del que va a traicionarme, está aquí con la mía, sobre la mesa.
22Es verdad que el Hijo del hombre irá por el camino que le está determinado, pero ¡ay de aquel que lo traiciona!
23Entonces comenzaron a preguntarse unos a otros quién de ellos haría tal cosa.
24Y empezaron a discutir sobre cuál de ellos sería el más importante.
25Jesús les dijo: ―Los reyes de las naciones son unos tiranos con sus súbditos. Y aun así, ellos dicen de sí mismos que le hacen bien a la gente.
26Pero entre ustedes no debe ser así. El más importante debe comportarse como el menor, y el que manda como el que sirve.
27Porque, ¿quién es más importante?, ¿el que está sentado a la mesa o el que sirve? ¿No es el que está sentado a la mesa? Sin embargo, yo estoy entre ustedes como el que sirve.
28Ustedes han estado siempre a mi lado en mis pruebas.
29Por eso, yo mismo les doy un reino como mi Padre me lo ha dado a mí.
30En mi reino van a comer y a beber en mi mesa y se sentarán en tronos para juzgar a las doce tribus de Israel.
31»Simón, Simón, date cuenta de que Satanás ha pedido zarandearlos a ustedes como si fueran trigo;
32pero yo he rogado por ti, para que tu fe no falle. Y cuando eso pase y tú te hayas vuelto a mí, fortalece a tus hermanos».
33Pedro respondió: ―Señor, estoy dispuesto a ir contigo a la cárcel y aun a la muerte.
34Él le dijo: ―Pedro, pues te digo que hoy mismo, antes de que el gallo cante, tres veces dirás que no me conoces.
35Luego, Jesús les dijo a todos: ―Cuando los envié sin dinero ni bolsa ni sandalias, ¿les hizo falta algo? Respondieron: ―Nada.
36―Pero ahora les digo: El que tenga dinero, que lo lleve, y también el que tenga una bolsa, que la lleve. El que no tenga espada, que venda su manto y se compre una.
37Les digo que tiene que cumplirse en mí lo que está escrito: “A él lo contaron como otro malvado más”. Y eso que se ha escrito de mí, se cumplirá.
38Los discípulos le dijeron: ―Señor, mira, aquí hay dos espadas. Y él les contestó: ―¡Basta!
39Jesús salió de la ciudad acompañado por sus discípulos y se dirigió al monte de los Olivos, como era su costumbre.
40Cuando llegaron al lugar, les dijo: «Oren para que no caigan en tentación».
41Entonces se alejó de ellos a una buena distancia, se arrodilló y se puso a orar:
42«Padre, si quieres, no me hagas beber este trago amargo. Pero que no se haga lo que yo quiero, sino lo que tú quieres».
43En ese momento, un ángel del cielo se le apareció para darle fortaleza.
44Estaba tan angustiado, que se puso a orar con más intensidad, y su sudor caía a tierra como grandes gotas de sangre.
45Cuando terminó de orar, volvió adonde estaban los discípulos y los encontró dormidos, estaban agotados por la tristeza.
46Les dijo: «¿Por qué están durmiendo? Levántense y oren para que no caigan en tentación».
47Mientras Jesús decía esto, llegó mucha gente y al frente de ellos iba Judas, que era uno de los doce. Este se acercó para besar a Jesús.
48Pero Jesús le preguntó: ―Judas, ¿con un beso traicionas al Hijo del hombre?
49Los discípulos, al ver lo que pasaba, le dijeron: ―Señor, ¿atacamos con la espada?
50Y uno de ellos le cortó la oreja derecha al sirviente del jefe de los sacerdotes.
51Jesús les ordenó: ―¡Basta ya, déjenlos! Entonces tocó la oreja del hombre y lo sanó.
52Luego les dijo a los jefes de los sacerdotes, a los capitanes del templo y a los ancianos que habían venido a llevárselo: —¿Por qué vienen contra mí con espadas y palos como si yo fuera un bandido?
53Yo estaba con ustedes en el templo todos los días, y sin embargo, no se atrevieron a arrestarme. Pero esta es ya la hora de ustedes, hora en que reinan las tinieblas.
54Entonces arrestaron a Jesús y lo llevaron a la casa del jefe de los sacerdotes. Pedro los seguía de lejos.
55Allí, en medio del patio, encendieron una fogata y se sentaron alrededor de ella. Pedro también se sentó con ellos.
56Una sirvienta, al verlo sentado junto al fuego, se le quedó mirando y dijo: ―¡Este estaba con él!
57Pero él lo negó, diciendo: ―Mujer, yo no lo conozco.
58Poco después alguien lo vio también y dijo: ―Tú también eres uno de ellos. Pedro contestó: ―¡No, hombre, no lo soy!
59Como una hora después, otro insistió diciendo: ―Seguro que este estaba con él, pues es de Galilea.
60Pedro respondió: ―¡Hombre, no sé de qué hablas! Y mientras aun estaba hablando, el gallo cantó.
61El Señor se volvió y miró a Pedro. Entonces Pedro se acordó de que el Señor le había dicho: «Hoy mismo, antes de que el gallo cante tres veces, dirás que no me conoces».
62Y Pedro salió de allí a llorar amargamente.
63Los hombres que vigilaban a Jesús se burlaban de él y lo golpeaban.
64Le vendaron los ojos y luego le decían: ―¡Adivina quién te pegó!
65Y lo insultaban diciéndole muchas otras cosas.
66Cuando amaneció, se reunieron los ancianos del pueblo, los jefes de los sacerdotes y los maestros de la ley y llevaron a Jesús ante el Consejo. Entonces le preguntaron:
67―Dinos, ¿eres tú el Cristo? Jesús les contestó: ―Si les dijera que sí, ustedes no me lo creerían.
68Y si les hiciera preguntas, no me contestarían.
69Pero de ahora en adelante, el Hijo del hombre estará sentado a la derecha del Dios Todopoderoso.
70Todos le preguntaron: ―Entonces, ¿eres tú el Hijo de Dios? Él les contestó: ―Ustedes mismos lo han dicho.
71Entonces ellos dijeron: ―¿Qué más testigos necesitamos? Ya lo oímos de sus propios labios.

1Y ESTABA cerca el día de la fiesta de los ázimos, que se llama la Pascua.
2Y los príncipes de los sacerdotes y los escribas buscaban cómo le matarían; mas tenían miedo del pueblo.
3Y entró Satanás en Judas, por sobrenombre Iscariote, el cual era uno del número de los doce;
4Y fué, y habló con los príncipes de los sacerdotes, y con los magistrados, de cómo se lo entregaría.
5Los cuales se holgaron, y concertaron de darle dinero.
6Y prometió, y buscaba oportunidad para entregarle á ellos sin bulla.
7Y vino el día de los ázimos, en el cual era necesario matar la pascua.
8Y envió á Pedro y á Juan, diciendo: Id, aparejadnos la pascua para que comamos.
9Y ellos le dijeron: ¿Dónde quieres que aparejemos?
10Y él les dijo: He aquí cuando entrareis en la ciudad, os encontrará un hombre que lleva un cántaro de agua: seguidle hasta la casa donde entrare,
11Y decid al padre de la familia de la casa: El Maestro te dice: ¿Dónde está el aposento donde tengo de comer la pascua con mis discípulos?
12Entonces él os mostrará un gran cenáculo aderezado; aparejad allí.
13Fueron pues, y hallaron como les había dicho; y aparejaron la pascua.
14Y como fué hora, sentóse á la mesa, y con él los apóstoles.
15Y les dijo: En gran manera he deseado comer con vosotros esta pascua antes que padezca;
16Porque os digo que no comeré más de ella, hasta que se cumpla en el reino de Dios.
17Y tomando el vaso, habiendo dado gracias, dijo: Tomad esto, y partidlo entre vosotros;
18Porque os digo, que no beberé más del fruto de la vid, hasta que el reino de Dios venga.
19Y tomando el pan, habiendo dado gracias, partió, y les dió, diciendo: Esto es mi cuerpo, que por vosotros es dado: haced esto en memoria de mí.
20Asimismo también el vaso, después que hubo cenado, diciendo: Este vaso es el nuevo pacto en mi sangre, que por vosotros se derrama.
21Con todo eso, he aquí la mano del que me entrega, conmigo en la mesa.
22Y á la verdad el Hijo del hombre va, según lo que está determinado; empero ¡ay de aquel hombre por el cual es entregado!
23Ellos entonces comenzaron á preguntar entre sí, cuál de ellos sería el que había de hacer esto.
24Y hubo entre ellos una contienda, quién de ellos parecía ser el mayor.
25Entonces él les dijo: Los reyes de las gentes se enseñorean de ellas; y los que sobre ellas tienen potestad, son llamados bienhechores:
26Mas vosotros, no así: antes el que es mayor entre vosotros, sea como el más mozo; y el que es príncipe, como el que sirve.
27Porque, ¿cuál es mayor, el que se sienta á la mesa, ó el que sirve? ¿No es el que se sienta á la mesa? Y yo soy entre vosotros como el que sirve.
28Empero vosotros sois los que habéis permanecido conmigo en mis tentaciones:
29Yo pues os ordeno un reino, como mi Padre me lo ordenó á mí,
30Para que comáis y bebáis en mi mesa en mi reino, y os sentéis sobre tronos juzgando á las doce tribus de Israel.
31Dijo también el Señor: Simón, Simón, he aquí Satanás os ha pedido para zarandaros como á trigo;
32Mas yo he rogado por ti que tu fe no falte: y tú, una vez vuelto, confirma á tus hermanos.
33Y él le dijo: Señor, pronto estoy á ir contigo aun á cárcel y á muerte.
34Y él dijo: Pedro, te digo que el gallo no cantará hoy antes que tú niegues tres veces que me conoces.
35Y á ellos dijo: Cuando os envié sin bolsa, y sin alforja, y sin zapatos, ¿os faltó algo? Y ellos dijeron: Nada.
36Y les dijo: Pues ahora, el que tiene bolsa, tómela, y también la alforja, y el que no tiene, venda su capa y compre espada.
37Porque os digo, que es necesario que se cumpla todavía en mí aquello que está escrito: Y con los malos fué contado: porque lo que está escrito de mí, cumplimiento tiene.
38Entonces ellos dijeron: Señor, he aquí dos espadas. Y él les dijo: Basta.
39Y saliendo, se fué, como solía, al monte de las Olivas; y sus discípulos también le siguieron.
40Y como llegó á aquel lugar, les dijo: Orad que no entréis en tentación.
41Y él se apartó de ellos como un tiro de piedra; y puesto de rodillas oró,
42Diciendo: Padre, si quieres, pasa este vaso de mí; empero no se haga mi voluntad, sino la tuya.
43Y le apareció un ángel del cielo confortándole.
44Y estando en agonía, oraba más intensamente: y fué su sudor como grandes gotas de sangre que caían hasta la tierra.
45Y como se levantó de la oración, y vino á sus discípulos, hallólos durmiendo de tristeza;
46Y les dijo: ¿Por qué dormís? Levantaos, y orad que no entréis en tentación.
47Estando él aún hablando, he aquí una turba; y el que se llamaba Judas, uno de los doce, iba delante de ellos; y llegóse á Jesús para besarlo.
48Entonces Jesús le dijo: Judas, ¿con beso entregas al Hijo del hombre?
49Y viendo los que estaban con él lo que había de ser, le dijeron: Señor, ¿heriremos á cuchillo?
50Y uno de ellos hirió á un siervo del príncipe de los sacerdotes, y le quitó la oreja derecha.
51Entonces respondiendo Jesús, dijo: Dejad hasta aquí. Y tocando su oreja, le sanó.
52Y Jesús dijo á los que habían venido á él, los príncipes de los sacerdotes, y los magistrados del templo, y los ancianos: ¿Como á ladrón habéis salido con espadas y con palos?
53Habiendo estado con vosotros cada día en el templo, no extendisteis las manos contra mí; mas ésta es vuestra hora, y la potestad de las tinieblas.
54Y prendiéndole trajéronle, y metiéronle en casa del príncipe de los sacerdotes. Y Pedro le seguía de lejos.
55Y habiendo encendido fuego en medio de la sala, y sentándose todos alrededor, se sentó también Pedro entre ellos.
56Y como una criada le vió que estaba sentado al fuego, fijóse en él, y dijo: Y éste con él estaba.
57Entonces él lo negó, diciendo: Mujer, no le conozco.
58Y un poco después, viéndole otro, dijo: Y tú de ellos eras. Y Pedro dijo: Hombre, no soy.
59Y como una hora pasada otro afirmaba, diciendo: Verdaderamente también éste estaba con él, porque es Galileo.
60Y Pedro dijo: Hombre, no sé qué dices. Y luego, estando él aún hablando, el gallo cantó.
61Entonces, vuelto el Señor, miró á Pedro: y Pedro se acordó de la palabra del Señor como le había dicho: Antes que el gallo cante, me negarás tres veces.
62Y saliendo fuera Pedro, lloró amargamente.
63Y los hombres que tenían á Jesús, se burlaban de él hiriéndole;
64Y cubriéndole, herían su rostro, y preguntábanle, diciendo: Profetiza quién es el que te hirió.
65Y decían otras muchas cosas injuriándole.
66Y cuando fué de día, se juntaron los ancianos del pueblo, y los príncipes de los sacerdotes, y los escribas, y le trajeron á su concilio,
67Diciendo: ¿Eres tú el Cristo? dínoslo. Y les dijo: Si os lo dijere, no creeréis;
68Y también si os preguntare, no me responderéis, ni me soltaréis:
69Mas después de ahora el Hijo del hombre se asentará á la diestra de la potencia de Dios.
70Y dijeron todos: ¿Luego tú eres Hijo de Dios? Y él les dijo: Vosotros decís que yo soy.
71Entonces ellos dijeron: ¿Qué más testimonio deseamos? porque nosotros lo hemos oído de su boca.

1Now the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, which is called the Passover.
2And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill him; for they feared the people.
3Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.
4And he went his way, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray him unto them.
5And they were glad, and covenanted to give him money.
6And he promised, and sought opportunity to betray him unto them in the absence of the multitude.
7Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed.
8And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat.
9And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare?
10And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he entereth in.
11And ye shall say unto the goodman of the house, The Master saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?
12And he shall shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready.
13And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.
14And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.
15And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer:
16For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.
17And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves:
18For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.
19And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.
20Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.
21But, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table.
22And truly the Son of man goeth, as it was determined: but woe unto that man by whom he is betrayed!
23And they began to enquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing.
24And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest.
25And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors.
26But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.
27For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth.
28Ye are they which have continued with me in my temptations.
29And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me;
30That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
31And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:
32But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.
33And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death.
34And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.
35And he said unto them, When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing.
36Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.
37For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things concerning me have an end.
38And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough.
39And he came out, and went, as he was wont, to the mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him.
40And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation.
41And he was withdrawn from them about a stone’s cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,
42Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
43And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.
44And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.
45And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow,
46And said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.
47And while he yet spake, behold a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them, and drew near unto Jesus to kiss him.
48But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?
49When they which were about him saw what would follow, they said unto him, Lord, shall we smite with the sword?
50And one of them smote the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear.
51And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him.
52Then Jesus said unto the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and the elders, which were come to him, Be ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and staves?
53When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched forth no hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.
54Then took they him, and led him, and brought him into the high priest’s house. And Peter followed afar off.
55And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and were set down together, Peter sat down among them.
56But a certain maid beheld him as he sat by the fire, and earnestly looked upon him, and said, This man was also with him.
57And he denied him, saying, Woman, I know him not.
58And after a little while another saw him, and said, Thou art also of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not.
59And about the space of one hour after another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this fellow also was with him: for he is a Galilæan.
60And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew.
61And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.
62And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.
63And the men that held Jesus mocked him, and smote him.
64And when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face, and asked him, saying, Prophesy, who is it that smote thee?
65And many other things blasphemously spake they against him.
66And as soon as it was day, the elders of the people and the chief priests and the scribes came together, and led him into their council, saying,
67Art thou the Christ? tell us. And he said unto them, If I tell you, ye will not believe:
68And if I also ask you, ye will not answer me, nor let me go.
69Hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God.
70Then said they all, Art thou then the Son of God? And he said unto them, Ye say that I am.
71And they said, What need we any further witness? for we ourselves have heard of his own mouth.

1Now the feast of unleavened bread, which is called the Passover, was approaching.
2The chief priests and the scribes sought how they might put him to death, for they feared the people.
3Satan entered into Judas, who was also called Iscariot, who was counted with the twelve.
4He went away and talked with the chief priests and captains about how he might deliver him to them.
5They were glad, and agreed to give him money.
6He consented and sought an opportunity to deliver him to them in the absence of the multitude.
7The day of unleavened bread came, on which the Passover must be sacrificed.
8Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover for us, that we may eat.”
9They said to him, “Where do you want us to prepare?”
10He said to them, “Behold, when you have entered into the city, a man carrying a pitcher of water will meet you. Follow him into the house which he enters.
11Tell the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says to you, “Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?”’
12He will show you a large, furnished upper room. Make preparations there.”
13They went, found things as Jesus had told them, and they prepared the Passover.
14When the hour had come, he sat down with the twelve apostles.
15He said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer,
16for I tell you, I will no longer by any means eat of it until it is fulfilled in God’s Kingdom.”
17He received a cup, and when he had given thanks, he said, “Take this and share it among yourselves,
18for I tell you, I will not drink at all again from the fruit of the vine, until God’s Kingdom comes.”
19He took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body which is given for you. Do this in memory of me.”
20Likewise, he took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.
21But behold, the hand of him who betrays me is with me on the table.
22The Son of Man indeed goes as it has been determined, but woe to that man through whom he is betrayed!”
23They began to question among themselves which of them it was who would do this thing.
24A dispute also arose among them, which of them was considered to be greatest.
25He said to them, “The kings of the nations lord it over them, and those who have authority over them are called ‘benefactors.’
26But not so with you. Rather, the one who is greater among you, let him become as the younger, and one who is governing, as one who serves.
27For who is greater, one who sits at the table, or one who serves? Isn’t it he who sits at the table? But I am among you as one who serves.
28“But you are those who have continued with me in my trials.
29I confer on you a kingdom, even as my Father conferred on me,
30that you may eat and drink at my table in my Kingdom. You will sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.”
31The Lord said, “Simon, Simon, behold, Satan asked to have all of you, that he might sift you as wheat,
32but I prayed for you, that your faith wouldn’t fail. You, when once you have turned again, establish your brothers.”
33He said to him, “Lord, I am ready to go with you both to prison and to death!”
34He said, “I tell you, Peter, the rooster will by no means crow today until you deny that you know me three times.”
35He said to them, “When I sent you out without purse, bag, and sandals, did you lack anything?” They said, “Nothing.”
36Then he said to them, “But now, whoever has a purse, let him take it, and likewise a bag. Whoever has none, let him sell his cloak, and buy a sword.
37For I tell you that this which is written must still be fulfilled in me: ‘He was counted with transgressors.’ For that which concerns me is being fulfilled.”
38They said, “Lord, behold, here are two swords.” He said to them, “That is enough.”
39He came out and went, as his custom was, to the Mount of Olives. His disciples also followed him.
40When he was at the place, he said to them, “Pray that you don’t enter into temptation.”
41He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and he knelt down and prayed,
42saying, “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.”
43An angel from heaven appeared to him, strengthening him.
44Being in agony, he prayed more earnestly. His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down on the ground.
45When he rose up from his prayer, he came to the disciples and found them sleeping because of grief,
46and said to them, “Why do you sleep? Rise and pray that you may not enter into temptation.”
47While he was still speaking, a crowd appeared. He who was called Judas, one of the twelve, was leading them. He came near to Jesus to kiss him.
48But Jesus said to him, “Judas, do you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?”
49When those who were around him saw what was about to happen, they said to him, “Lord, shall we strike with the sword?”
50A certain one of them struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear.
51But Jesus answered, “Let me at least do this”—and he touched his ear and healed him.
52Jesus said to the chief priests, captains of the temple, and elders, who had come against him, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs?
53When I was with you in the temple daily, you didn’t stretch out your hands against me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness.”
54They seized him and led him away, and brought him into the high priest’s house. But Peter followed from a distance.
55When they had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and had sat down together, Peter sat among them.
56A certain servant girl saw him as he sat in the light, and looking intently at him, said, “This man also was with him.”
57He denied Jesus, saying, “Woman, I don’t know him.”
58After a little while someone else saw him and said, “You also are one of them!” But Peter answered, “Man, I am not!”
59After about one hour passed, another confidently affirmed, saying, “Truly this man also was with him, for he is a Galilean!”
60But Peter said, “Man, I don’t know what you are talking about!” Immediately, while he was still speaking, a rooster crowed.
61The Lord turned and looked at Peter. Then Peter remembered the Lord’s word, how he said to him, “Before the rooster crows you will deny me three times.”
62He went out, and wept bitterly.
63The men who held Jesus mocked him and beat him.
64Having blindfolded him, they struck him on the face and asked him, “Prophesy! Who is the one who struck you?”
65They spoke many other things against him, insulting him.
66As soon as it was day, the assembly of the elders of the people were gathered together, both chief priests and scribes, and they led him away into their council, saying,
67“If you are the Christ, tell us.” But he said to them, “If I tell you, you won’t believe,
68and if I ask, you will in no way answer me or let me go.
69From now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the power of God.”
70They all said, “Are you then the Son of God?” He said to them, “You say it, because I am.”
71They said, “Why do we need any more witness? For we ourselves have heard from his own mouth!”
