Comenzaron a acusarlo, diciendo: ―Encontramos a este hombre alborotando a nuestra nación. Está en contra de que se paguen impuestos al emperador y asegura que él es el Cristo, el rey.
Y comenzaron á acusarle, diciendo: A éste hemos hallado que pervierte la nación, y que veda dar tributo á César, diciendo que él es el Cristo, el rey.
And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Cæsar, saying that he himself is Christ a King.

Pilato le preguntó a Jesús: ―¿Eres tú el rey de los judíos? Él respondió: ―Tú mismo lo dices.
Entonces Pilato le preguntó, diciendo: ¿Eres tú el Rey de los Judíos? Y respondiéndole él, dijo: Tú lo dices.
And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answered him and said, Thou sayest it.

Entonces Pilato le dijo a los jefes de los sacerdotes y a la gente: ―No encuentro nada que haga culpable a este hombre.

Then said Pilate to the chief priests and to the people, I find no fault in this man.
Pilate said to the chief priests and the multitudes, “I find no basis for a charge against this man.”
Pero ellos seguían insistiendo: ―Con sus enseñanzas alborota al pueblo por toda Judea. Comenzó en Galilea y ya llegó hasta aquí.
Mas ellos porfiaban, diciendo: Alborota al pueblo, enseñando por toda Judea, comenzando desde Galilea hasta aquí.
And they were the more fierce, saying, He stirreth up the people, teaching throughout all Jewry, beginning from Galilee to this place.
But they insisted, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee even to this place.”
Cuando Pilato oyó esto, preguntó si el hombre era de Galilea.
Entonces Pilato, oyendo de Galilea, preguntó si el hombre era Galileo.
When Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked whether the man were a Galilæan.
But when Pilate heard Galilee mentioned, he asked if the man was a Galilean.
Al enterarse de que pertenecía a la jurisdicción de Herodes, se lo mandó a él, pues en aquellos días también Herodes estaba en Jerusalén.
Y como entendió que era de la jurisdicción de Herodes, le remitió á Herodes, el cual también estaba en Jerusalem en aquellos días.
And as soon as he knew that he belonged unto Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who himself also was at Jerusalem at that time.
When he found out that he was in Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem during those days.
Cuando Herodes vio a Jesús, se puso muy contento, porque ya hacía tiempo que quería verlo. Había oído hablar de él y esperaba verlo hacer algún milagro.
Y Herodes, viendo á Jesús, holgóse mucho, porque hacía mucho que deseaba verle; porque había oído de él muchas cosas, y tenía esperanza que le vería hacer alguna señal.
And when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceeding glad: for he was desirous to see him of a long season, because he had heard many things of him; and he hoped to have seen some miracle done by him.
Now when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceedingly glad, for he had wanted to see him for a long time, because he had heard many things about him. He hoped to see some miracle done by him.
Le hizo muchas preguntas pero Jesús no le contestó nada.
Y le preguntaba con muchas palabras; mas él nada le respondió:
Then he questioned with him in many words; but he answered him nothing.

También estaban allí los jefes de los sacerdotes y los maestros de la ley y lo acusaban con insistencia.

Entonces Herodes y sus soldados lo trataron con desprecio y, para burlarse de él, le pusieron un manto lujoso. Después lo mandaron de vuelta a Pilato.
Mas Herodes con su corte le menospreció, y escarneció, vistiéndole de una ropa rica; y volvióle á enviar á Pilato.
And Herod with his men of war set him at nought, and mocked him, and arrayed him in a gorgeous robe, and sent him again to Pilate.
Herod with his soldiers humiliated him and mocked him. Dressing him in luxurious clothing, they sent him back to Pilate.
Herodes y Pilato antes no se llevaban bien, pero desde ese mismo día se hicieron amigos.
Y fueron hechos amigos entre sí Pilato y Herodes en el mismo día; porque antes eran enemigos entre sí.
And the same day Pilate and Herod were made friends together: for before they were at enmity between themselves.

Pilato reunió a los jefes de los sacerdotes, a los gobernantes y al pueblo,

y les dijo: ―Ustedes me trajeron a este hombre acusado de incitar al pueblo a la rebelión. Pero ya lo he interrogado delante de ustedes y no lo encuentro culpable de lo que ustedes lo acusan.
Les dijo: Me habéis presentado á éste por hombre que desvía al pueblo: y he aquí, preguntando yo delante de vosotros, no he hallado culpa alguna en este hombre de aquéllas de que le acusáis.
Said unto them, Ye have brought this man unto me, as one that perverteth the people: and, behold, I, having examined him before you, have found no fault in this man touching those things whereof ye accuse him:
and said to them, “You brought this man to me as one that perverts the people, and behold, having examined him before you, I found no basis for a charge against this man concerning those things of which you accuse him.
Herodes tampoco lo encontró culpable, y por eso nos lo devolvió. Este hombre no ha hecho nada que merezca la muerte.
Y ni aun Herodes; porque os remití á él, y he aquí, ninguna cosa digna de muerte ha hecho.
No, nor yet Herod: for I sent you to him; and, lo, nothing worthy of death is done unto him.

Mas toda la multitud dió voces á una, diciendo: Quita á éste, y suéltanos á Barrabás:
And they cried out all at once, saying, Away with this man, and release unto us Barabbas:
But they all cried out together, saying, “Away with this man! Release to us Barabbas!”—
Barrabás estaba preso por una rebelión ocurrida en la ciudad y por haber matado a alguien.
(El cual había sido echado en la cárcel por una sedición hecha en la ciudad, y una muerte.)
(Who for a certain sedition made in the city, and for murder, was cast into prison.)
one who was thrown into prison for a certain revolt in the city, and for murder.
Pilato quería dejar libre a Jesús y por eso habló con el pueblo otra vez.
Y hablóles otra vez Pilato, queriendo soltar á Jesús.
Pilate therefore, willing to release Jesus, spake again to them.
Then Pilate spoke to them again, wanting to release Jesus,
Pero la gente gritaba: ―¡Crucifícalo! ¡Crucifícalo!
Pero ellos volvieron á dar voces, diciendo: Crucifícale, crucifícale.
But they cried, saying, Crucify him, crucify him.
but they shouted, saying, “Crucify! Crucify him!”
Entonces él les dijo por tercera vez: ―Pero, ¿qué delito ha cometido este hombre? No lo encuentro culpable de nada que merezca la pena de muerte. Voy a ordenar que lo azoten y después lo dejaré libre.
Y él les dijo la tercera vez: ¿Pues qué mal ha hecho éste? Ninguna culpa de muerte he hallado en él: le castigaré, pues, y le soltaré.
And he said unto them the third time, Why, what evil hath he done? I have found no cause of death in him: I will therefore chastise him, and let him go.
He said to them the third time, “Why? What evil has this man done? I have found no capital crime in him. I will therefore chastise him and release him.”
Pero ellos siguieron insistiendo a gritos que lo crucificara, y por fin lo consiguieron.
Mas ellos instaban á grandes voces, pidiendo que fuese crucificado. Y las voces de ellos y de los príncipes de los sacerdotes crecían.
And they were instant with loud voices, requiring that he might be crucified. And the voices of them and of the chief priests prevailed.
But they were urgent with loud voices, asking that he might be crucified. Their voices and the voices of the chief priests prevailed.
Pilato les concedió lo que pedían.
Entonces Pilato juzgó que se hiciese lo que ellos pedían;
And Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they required.
Pilate decreed that what they asked for should be done.
Ordenó que dejaran libre al hombre que estaba preso por rebelde y asesino, y les entregó a Jesús para que hicieran con él lo que quisieran.
Y les soltó á aquél que había sido echado en la cárcel por sedición y una muerte, al cual habían pedido; y entregó á Jesús á la voluntad de ellos.
And he released unto them him that for sedition and murder was cast into prison, whom they had desired; but he delivered Jesus to their will.
He released him who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, for whom they asked, but he delivered Jesus up to their will.
Cuando se lo llevaban, obligaron a un hombre de Cirene, llamado Simón, a que fuera detrás de Jesús cargando la cruz. Este hombre volvía en ese momento del campo.
Y llevándole, tomaron á un Simón Cireneo, que venía del campo, y le pusieron encima la cruz para que la llevase tras Jesús.
And as they led him away, they laid hold upon one Simon, a Cyrenian, coming out of the country, and on him they laid the cross, that he might bear it after Jesus.
When they led him away, they grabbed one Simon of Cyrene, coming from the country, and laid the cross on him to carry it after Jesus.
Mucha gente del pueblo y muchas mujeres lo seguían. Ellas lloraban por él y se golpeaban el pecho.
Y le seguía una grande multitud de pueblo, y de mujeres, las cuales le lloraban y lamentaban.
And there followed him a great company of people, and of women, which also bewailed and lamented him.

Jesús se volvió hacía ellas y les dijo: ―Hijas de Jerusalén, no lloren por mí. Lloren más bien por ustedes y por sus hijos.
Mas Jesús, vuelto á ellas, les dice: Hijas de Jerusalem, no me lloréis á mí, mas llorad por vosotras mismas, y por vuestros hijos.
But Jesus turning unto them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children.

Porque se acerca el día en que dirán: “¡Dichosas las mujeres estériles, que nunca dieron a luz ni tuvieron que amamantar hijos!”.
Porque he aquí vendrán días en que dirán: Bienaventuradas las estériles, y los vientres que no engendraron, y los pechos que no criaron.
For, behold, the days are coming, in the which they shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the paps which never gave suck.

Entonces comenzarán a decir a las montañas: “¡Caigan sobre nosotros!”, y a las colinas: “¡Cúbrannos!”,

Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us.

pues si cuando el árbol está verde hacen esto, ¿qué no harán cuando esté seco?

For if they do these things in a green tree, what shall be done in the dry?

Llevaban también con él, para matarlos, a otros dos que eran criminales.
Y llevaban también con él otros dos, malhechores, á ser muertos.
And there were also two other, malefactors, led with him to be put to death.
There were also others, two criminals, led with him to be put to death.
Cuando llegaron al lugar llamado la Calavera, lo crucificaron. También a los criminales, uno a la derecha de él y otro a su izquierda.
Y como vinieron al lugar que se llama de la Calavera, le crucificaron allí, y á los malhechores, uno á la derecha, y otro á la izquierda.
And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left.
When they came to the place that is called “The Skull”, they crucified him there with the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left.
Jesús dijo: ―Padre, perdónalos porque no saben lo que hacen. Mientras, echaban suertes para ver quién se quedaba con la ropa de Jesús.
Y Jesús decía: Padre, perdónalos, porque no saben lo que hacen. Y partiendo sus vestidos, echaron suertes.
Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.

La gente se quedó allí para mirar; y por su parte, los gobernantes se burlaban de él. Decían: ―Si es el Cristo de Dios, el Escogido, que se salve a sí mismo como salvó a otros.
Y el pueblo estaba mirando; y se burlaban de él los príncipes con ellos, diciendo: A otros hizo salvos: sálvese á sí, si éste es el Mesías, el escogido de Dios.
And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them derided him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if he be Christ, the chosen of God.
The people stood watching. The rulers with them also scoffed at him, saying, “He saved others. Let him save himself, if this is the Christ of God, his chosen one!”
Los soldados también se burlaban de él. Se acercaron para ofrecerle vinagre,

Sobre él había un letrero que decía: «este es el rey de los judíos».

Uno de los criminales que estaban allí colgados también empezó a insultarlo: ―¿Acaso, no eres tú el Cristo? ¡Sálvate a ti mismo y sálvanos a nosotros también!
Y uno de los malhechores que estaban colgados, le injuriaba, diciendo: Si tú eres el Cristo, sálvate á ti mismo y á nosotros.
And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.
One of the criminals who was hanged insulted him, saying, “If you are the Christ, save yourself and us!”
Pero el otro criminal lo reprendió: ―¿Ni siquiera tienes temor de Dios aunque estés sufriendo el mismo castigo?
Y respondiendo el otro, reprendióle, diciendo: ¿Ni aun tú temes á Dios, estando en la misma condenación?
But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?
But the other answered, and rebuking him said, “Don’t you even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation?
Nosotros merecemos este castigo y sufrimos a causa de nuestros delitos; pero este no ha hecho nada malo.
Y nosotros, á la verdad, justamente padecemos; porque recibimos lo que merecieron nuestros hechos: mas éste ningún mal hizo.
And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.

Luego le dijo: ―Jesús, acuérdate de mí cuando vengas en tu reino.

And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.

Jesús le contestó: ―Te aseguro que hoy estarás conmigo en el paraíso.

And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

Desde el mediodía y hasta las tres de la tarde, toda la tierra quedó a oscuras,

El capitán romano, al ver lo que había sucedido, alabó a Dios y dijo: ―En verdad, este hombre era justo.

Now when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this was a righteous man.

Los que estaban allí reunidos para presenciar ese espectáculo, al ver lo que pasaba, se fueron de allí golpeándose el pecho.
Y toda la multitud de los que estaban presentes á este espectáculo, viendo lo que había acontecido, se volvían hiriendo sus pechos.
And all the people that came together to that sight, beholding the things which were done, smote their breasts, and returned.

Pero todos los conocidos de Jesús y las mujeres que lo habían seguido desde Galilea, se quedaron mirando desde lejos.
Mas todos sus conocidos, y las mujeres que le habían seguido desde Galilea, estaban lejos mirando estas cosas.
And all his acquaintance, and the women that followed him from Galilee, stood afar off, beholding these things.

Había un hombre llamado José que era bueno y justo. Era miembro del Consejo,

pero no había estado de acuerdo con la decisión y la conducta de los demás. Procedía del pueblo de Arimatea, en la región de Judea, y esperaba el reino de Dios.
(El cual no había consentido en el consejo ni en los hechos de ellos), de Arimatea, ciudad de la Judea, el cual también esperaba el reino de Dios;
(The same had not consented to the counsel and deed of them;) he was of Arimathæa, a city of the Jews: who also himself waited for the kingdom of God.

Este fue ante Pilato para pedirle el cuerpo de Jesús.

Después de bajarlo, lo envolvió en una sábana de lino y lo puso en un sepulcro cavado en una roca. Ese sepulcro nunca antes lo habían usado.

And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulchre that was hewn in stone, wherein never man before was laid.

Era el día en que se preparaban para el descanso del sábado, que ya estaba a punto de comenzar.

Las mujeres que habían seguido a Jesús desde Galilea acompañaron a José hasta el sepulcro y vieron cómo colocaba el cuerpo.

And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulchre, and how his body was laid.

Luego regresaron a su casa y prepararon especias aromáticas y perfumes. Después descansaron el sábado, como lo manda la ley.
Y vueltas, aparejaron drogas aromáticas y ungüentos; y reposaron el sábado, conforme al mandamiento.
