{es geschah nun} In jenen Tagen erging ein Erlass (Gebot, Verordnung, Befehl, Gesetz, Verfügung) von Kaiser Augustus, dass die ganze Welt sich †in öffentliche Register eintragen lassen solle (eingetragen werde).

Y ACONTECIÓ en aquellos días que salió edicto de parte de Augusto César, que toda la tierra fuese empadronada.

And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Cæsar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.
