1Ahora sucedió en aquellos días que salió una orden de César Augusto de empadronar a todo el mundo.
2Este primer censo, se hizo cuando Cirenio era el gobernante de Siria.
3Y todos los hombres fueron contados, todos en su ciudad.
4Y subió José de Galilea, de la ciudad de Nazaret, a Judea, a Belén, la ciudad de David, porque era de la casa y familia de David,
5Para ser puesto en la lista con María, su futura esposa, que estaba a punto de convertirse en madre.
6Y mientras estaban allí, llegó el momento de que ella diera a luz.
7Y ella tuvo su primer hijo; y, lo envolvió en lino, lo puso a descansar en el lugar donde el ganado tenía su comida, porque no había lugar para ellos en el mesón.
8Y en la misma región había pastores de ovejas en los campos, cuidando sus rebaños de noche.
9Y vino a ellos el ángel del Señor, y la gloria del Señor los rodeaba; y el temor vino sobre ellos.
10Y el ángel dijo: No teman; porque en verdad, les doy buenas nuevas de gran gozo que serán para todo el pueblo:
11Porque en este día, en la ciudad de David, ha nacido un Salvador, que es CRISTO el Señor.
12Y esta es la señal para ustedes: verán a un niño pequeño envuelto en lino, en el lugar donde el ganado tiene su alimento.
13Y repentinamente apareció con el ángel un gran ejército de ángeles del cielo, alabando a Dios y diciendo:
14Gloria a Dios en las alturas, y en la tierra paz, buena voluntad para con los hombres!
15Y cuando los ángeles se habían ido de ellos al cielo, los pastores de las ovejas se decían unos a otros: Vamos ahora a Belén, y veamos esto que ha sucedido, y que el Señor nos ha anunciado.
16Y vinieron pronto, y vieron a María, a José, y al niño en el lugar donde el ganado comía.
17Y cuando lo vieron, les dieron cuenta de lo que se les había dicho acerca del niño.
18Y todos aquellos quienes oyeron estaban maravillados de lo que decían los pastores de las ovejas.
19Pero María guardaba todas estas cosas en su corazón, y pensaba mucho en ellas.
20Entonces los pastores de las ovejas volvieron, glorificando y alabando a Dios por todas las cosas que habían oído y que habían visto, como se les había dicho.
21Y cuando, después de ocho días, llegó el momento de su circuncisión, se llamaba Jesús, el nombre que el ángel le había dado antes de su nacimiento.
22Y cuando los días necesarios de purificación se cumplieron, por la ley de Moisés habían llegado a su fin, lo llevaron a Jerusalén para consagrarlo al Señor.
23Como dice la ley del Señor, el primer hijo varón de cada madre será santo para el Señor,
24Y hacer una ofrenda, como está ordenada en la ley del Señor, un par de tórtolas o dos pichones de paloma.
25Y había en Jerusalén un hombre que se llamaba Simeón; y él era un hombre justo, temeroso a Dios y esperando la consolación de Israel; y el Espíritu Santo estaba sobre él.
26Y tuvo conocimiento, por el Espíritu Santo, que no vería la muerte hasta que viera al Cristo del Señor.
27Y lleno del Espíritu, vino al Templo; y cuando el padre y la madre entraron con el niño Jesús, para hacer con él lo que estaba ordenado por la ley,
28Entonces él lo tomó en sus brazos y alabó a Dios y le dijo:
29Ahora deja que tu siervo vaya en paz, Oh Señor, conforme a tu palabra;
30Porque mis ojos han visto tu salvación,
31Que tú has preparado delante de todas las naciones;
32Una luz de revelación a los gentiles, y la gloria de tu pueblo Israel.
33Y su padre y su madre estaban maravillados de lo que se decía de él.
34Y Simeón les dio su bendición y dijo a María, su madre: Mira, este niño será la causa de la caída y de levantamiento de un gran número de personas en Israel, y para señal que será contradicha;
35Y una espada atravesará tu corazón; para que los pensamientos secretos de los hombres salgan a la luz.
36Y estaba allí, Ana, una mujer profetisa, hija de Fanuel, de la familia de Aser, ella era muy anciana, y después de siete años de casarse.
37Había sido viuda durante ochenta y cuatro años; ella estaba en el Templo en todo momento, adorando con oraciones y yendo sin comida, día y noche.
38Ana presentándose en la misma hora, ella alababa a Dios, hablándole de él niño Jesús a todos los que esperaban la liberación de Jerusalén.
39Y cuando hubieron hecho todas las cosas que estaban ordenadas por la ley del Señor, volvieron a Galilea, a Nazaret, la ciudad donde vivían.
40Y el niño crecía y se fortalecía lleno de sabiduría, y la gracia de Dios estaba sobre él.
41Y cada año su padre y su madre iban a Jerusalén en la fiesta de la Pascua.
42Y cuando tenía doce años, subieron a Jerusalén como era la costumbre, de la fiesta;
43Y cuando los días de la fiesta llegaron a su fin y regresaban, el niño Jesús se quedó en Jerusalén, pero José y su madre no lo sabían.
44Y creyendo que él estaba con algunos de ellos, se fueron. caminaron por un día; y después de buscarlo entre sus parientes y amigos,
45Y viendo que él no estaba allí, volvieron a Jerusalén, para buscarlo.
46Y después de tres días se encontraron con él en el Templo, sentado entre los sabios, escuchando sus palabras y formulando preguntas.
47Y a todos los que oían, estaban maravillados de su conocimiento y de las respuestas que dio.
48Cuando lo vieron, se sorprendieron, y su madre le dijo: Hijo, ¿por qué nos has hecho esto? mira, tu padre y yo te hemos estado buscando con angustia.
49Y él les dijo: ¿Por qué me buscaban? ¿No te quedó claro que mi lugar correcto estaba en la casa de mi Padre.
50Mas ellos no entendieron las palabras que les hablo.
51Y descendió con ellos, y vino a Nazaret; e hizo lo que se le ordenó: y su madre guardó todas estas palabras en su corazón.
52Y Jesús crecía en sabiduría y en estatura, y en gracia delante de Dios y de los hombres.

1Y ACONTECIÓ en aquellos días que salió edicto de parte de Augusto César, que toda la tierra fuese empadronada.
2Este empadronamiento primero fué hecho siendo Cirenio gobernador de la Siria.
3E iban todos para ser empadronados, cada uno á su ciudad.
4Y subió José de Galilea, de la ciudad de Nazaret, á Judea, á la ciudad de David, que se llama Bethlehem, por cuanto era de la casa y familia de David;
5Para ser empadronado con María su mujer, desposada con él, la cual estaba en cinta.
6Y aconteció que estando ellos allí, se cumplieron los días en que ella había de parir.
7Y parió á su hijo primogénito, y le envolvió en pañales, y acostóle en un pesebre, porque no había lugar para ellos en el mesón.
8Y había pastores en la misma tierra, que velaban y guardaban las vigilias de la noche sobre su ganado.
9Y he aquí el ángel del Señor vino sobre ellos, y la claridad de Dios los cercó de resplandor; y tuvieron gran temor.
10Mas el ángel les dijo: No temáis; porque he aquí os doy nuevas de gran gozo, que será para todo el pueblo:
11Que os ha nacido hoy, en la ciudad de David, un Salvador, que es CRISTO el Señor.
12Y esto os será por señal: hallaréis al niño envuelto en pañales, echado en un pesebre.
13Y repentinamente fué con el ángel una multitud de los ejércitos celestiales, que alababan á Dios, y decían:
14Gloria en las alturas á Dios, y en la tierra paz, buena voluntad para con los hombres.
15Y aconteció que como los ángeles se fueron de ellos al cielo, los pastores dijeron los unos á los otros: Pasemos pues hasta Bethlehem, y veamos esto que ha sucedido, que el Señor nos ha manifestado.
16Y vinieron apriesa, y hallaron á María, y á José, y al niño acostado en el pesebre.
17Y viéndolo, hicieron notorio lo que les había sido dicho del niño.
18Y todos los que oyeron, se maravillaron de lo que los pastores les decían.
19Mas María guardaba todas estas cosas, confiriéndolas en su corazón.
20Y se volvieron los pastores glorificando y alabando á Dios de todas las cosas que habían oído y visto, como les había sido dicho.
21Y pasados los ocho días para circuncidar al niño, llamaron su nombre JESÚS; el cual le fué puesto por el ángel antes que él fuese concebido en el vientre.
22Y como se cumplieron los días de la purificación de ella, conforme á la ley de Moisés, le trajeron á Jerusalem para presentarle al Señor,
23(Como está escrito en la ley del Señor: Todo varón que abriere la matriz, será llamado santo al Señor),
24Y para dar la ofrenda, conforme á lo que está dicho en la ley del Señor: un par de tórtolas, ó dos palominos.
25Y he aquí, había un hombre en Jerusalem, llamado Simeón, y este hombre, justo y pío, esperaba la consolación de Israel: y el Espíritu Santo era sobre él.
26Y había recibido respuesta del Espíritu Santo, que no vería la muerte antes que viese al Cristo del Señor.
27Y vino por Espíritu al templo. Y cuando metieron al niño Jesús sus padres en el templo, para hacer por él conforme á la costumbre de la ley,
28Entonces él le tomó en sus brazos, y bendijo á Dios, y dijo:
29Ahora despides, Señor, á tu siervo, conforme á tu palabra, en paz;
30Porque han visto mis ojos tu salvación,
31La cual has aparejado en presencia de todos los pueblos;
32Luz para ser revelada á los Gentiles, y la gloria de tu pueblo Israel.
33Y José y su madre estaban maravillados de las cosas que se decían de él.
34Y los bendijo Simeón, y dijo á su madre María: He aquí, éste es puesto para caída y para levantamiento de muchos en Israel; y para señal á la que será contradicho;
35Y una espada traspasará tu alma de ti misma, para que sean manifestados los pensamientos de muchos corazones.
36Estaba también allí Ana, profetisa, hija de Phanuel, de la tribu de Aser; la cual había venido en grande edad, y había vivido con su marido siete años desde su virginidad;
37Y era viuda de hasta ochenta y cuatro años, que no se apartaba del templo, sirviendo de noche y de día con ayunos y oraciones.
38Y ésta, sobreviniendo en la misma hora, juntamente confesaba al Señor, y hablaba de él á todos los que esperaban la redención en Jerusalem.
39Mas como cumplieron todas las cosas según la ley del Señor, se volvieron á Galilea, á su ciudad de Nazaret.
40Y el niño crecía, y fortalecíase, y se henchía de sabiduría; y la gracia de Dios era sobre él.
41E iban sus padres todos los años á Jerusalem en la fiesta de la Pascua.
42Y cuando fué de doce años, subieron ellos á Jerusalem conforme á la costumbre del día de la fiesta.
43Y acabados los días, volviendo ellos, se quedó el niño Jesús en Jerusalem, sin saberlo José y su madre.
44Y pensando que estaba en la compañía, anduvieron camino de un día; y le buscaban entre los parientes y entre los conocidos:
45Mas como no le hallasen, volvieron á Jerusalem buscándole.
46Y aconteció, que tres días después le hallaron en el templo, sentado en medio de los doctores, oyéndoles y preguntándoles.
47Y todos los que le oían, se pasmaban de su entendimiento y de sus respuestas.
48Y cuando le vieron, se maravillaron; y díjole su madre: Hijo, ¿por qué nos has hecho así? He aquí, tu padre y yo te hemos buscado con dolor.
49Entonces él les dice: ¿Qué hay? ¿por qué me buscabais? ¿No sabíais que en los negocios de mi Padre me conviene estar?
50Mas ellos no entendieron las palabras que les habló.
51Y descendió con ellos, y vino á Nazaret, y estaba sujeto á ellos. Y su madre guardaba todas estas cosas en su corazón.
52Y Jesús crecía en sabiduría, y en edad, y en gracia para con Dios y los hombres.

1And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Cæsar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.
2(And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)
3And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.
4And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judæa, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)
5To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
6And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
7And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
8And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
9And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
10And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
11For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
12And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
13And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
14Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
15And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.
16And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.
17And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.
18And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.
19But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.
20And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.
21And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb.
22And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord;

36And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity;
37And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.
38And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.
39And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city Nazareth.
40And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.
41Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover.
42And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast.
43And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it.
44But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day’s journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance.
45And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him.
46And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions.
47And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.
48And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.
49And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business?
50And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them.
51And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.
52And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.

1Now in those days, a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be enrolled.
2This was the first enrollment made when Quirinius was governor of Syria.
3All went to enroll themselves, everyone to his own city.
4Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to David’s city, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David,
5to enroll himself with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him as wife, being pregnant.
6While they were there, the day had come for her to give birth.
7She gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him in bands of cloth and laid him in a feeding trough, because there was no room for them in the inn.
8There were shepherds in the same country staying in the field, and keeping watch by night over their flock.
9Behold, an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.
10The angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be to all the people.
11For there is born to you today, in David’s city, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
12This is the sign to you: you will find a baby wrapped in strips of cloth, lying in a feeding trough.”
13Suddenly, there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly army praising God and saying,
14“Glory to God in the highest, on earth peace, good will toward men.”
15When the angels went away from them into the sky, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem, now, and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.”
16They came with haste and found both Mary and Joseph, and the baby was lying in the feeding trough.
17When they saw it, they publicized widely the saying which was spoken to them about this child.
18All who heard it wondered at the things which were spoken to them by the shepherds.
19But Mary kept all these sayings, pondering them in her heart.
20The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, just as it was told them.
21When eight days were fulfilled for the circumcision of the child, his name was called Jesus, which was given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.
22When the days of their purification according to the law of Moses were fulfilled, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord
23(as it is written in the law of the Lord, “Every male who opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord”),
24and to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, “A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.”
25Behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on him.
26It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.
27He came in the Spirit into the temple. When the parents brought in the child, Jesus, that they might do concerning him according to the custom of the law,
28then he received him into his arms and blessed God, and said,
29“Now you are releasing your servant, Master, according to your word, in peace;
30for my eyes have seen your salvation,
31which you have prepared before the face of all peoples;
32a light for revelation to the nations, and the glory of your people Israel.”
33Joseph and his mother were marveling at the things which were spoken concerning him.
34Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary, his mother, “Behold, this child is appointed for the falling and the rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which is spoken against.
35Yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul, that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”
36There was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher (she was of a great age, having lived with a husband seven years from her virginity,
37and she had been a widow for about eighty-four years), who didn’t depart from the temple, worshiping with fastings and petitions night and day.
38Coming up at that very hour, she gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of him to all those who were looking for redemption in Jerusalem.
39When they had accomplished all things that were according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city, Nazareth.
40The child was growing, and was becoming strong in spirit, being filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon him.
41His parents went every year to Jerusalem at the feast of the Passover.
42When he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the feast;
43and when they had fulfilled the days, as they were returning, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. Joseph and his mother didn’t know it,
44but supposing him to be in the company, they went a day’s journey; and they looked for him among their relatives and acquaintances.
45When they didn’t find him, they returned to Jerusalem, looking for him.
46After three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the middle of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions.
47All who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers.
48When they saw him, they were astonished; and his mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us this way? Behold, your father and I were anxiously looking for you.”
49He said to them, “Why were you looking for me? Didn’t you know that I must be in my Father’s house?”
50They didn’t understand the saying which he spoke to them.
51And he went down with them and came to Nazareth. He was subject to them, and his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.
52And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.
