1Es begab sich aber zu der Zeit, daß ein Gebot von dem Kaiser Augustus ausging, daß alle Welt geschätzt würde.
2Und diese Schätzung war die allererste und geschah zu der Zeit, da Cyrenius Landpfleger von Syrien war.
3Und jedermann ging, daß er sich schätzen ließe, ein jeglicher in seine Stadt.
4Da machte sich auch auf Joseph aus Galiläa, aus der Stadt Nazareth, in das jüdische Land zur Stadt Davids, die da heißt Bethlehem, darum daß er von dem Hause und Geschlechte Davids war,
5auf daß er sich schätzen ließe mit Maria, seinem vertrauten Weibe, die ward schwanger.
6Und als sie daselbst waren, kam die Zeit, da sie gebären sollte.
7Und sie gebar ihren ersten Sohn und wickelte ihn in Windeln und legte ihn in eine Krippe; denn sie hatten sonst keinen Raum in der Herberge.
8Und es waren Hirten in derselben Gegend auf dem Felde bei den Hürden, die hüteten des Nachts ihre Herde.
9Und siehe, des HERRN Engel trat zu ihnen, und die Klarheit des HERRN leuchtete um sie; und sie fürchteten sich sehr.
10Und der Engel sprach zu ihnen: Fürchtet euch nicht! siehe, ich verkündige euch große Freude, die allem Volk widerfahren wird;
11denn euch ist heute der Heiland geboren, welcher ist Christus, der HERR, in der Stadt Davids.
12Und das habt zum Zeichen: ihr werdet finden das Kind in Windeln gewickelt und in einer Krippe liegen.
13Und alsbald war da bei dem Engel die Menge der himmlischen Heerscharen, die lobten Gott und sprachen:
14Ehre sei Gott in der Höhe und Frieden auf Erden und den Menschen ein Wohlgefallen.
15Und da die Engel von ihnen gen Himmel fuhren, sprachen die Hirten untereinander: Laßt uns nun gehen gen Bethlehem und die Geschichte sehen, die da geschehen ist, die uns der HERR kundgetan hat.
16Und sie kamen eilend und fanden beide, Maria und Joseph, dazu das Kind in der Krippe liegen.
17Da sie es aber gesehen hatten, breiteten sie das Wort aus, welches zu ihnen von diesem Kinde gesagt war.
18Und alle, vor die es kam, wunderten sich der Rede, die ihnen die Hirten gesagt hatten.
19Maria aber behielt alle diese Worte und bewegte sie in ihrem Herzen.
20Und die Hirten kehrten wieder um, priesen und lobten Gott um alles, was sie gehört und gesehen hatten, wie denn zu ihnen gesagt war.
21Und da acht Tage um waren, daß das Kind beschnitten würde, da ward sein Name genannt Jesus, welcher genannt war von dem Engel, ehe denn er in Mutterleibe empfangen ward.
22Und da die Tage ihrer Reinigung nach dem Gesetz Mose's kamen, brachten sie ihn gen Jerusalem, auf daß sie ihn darstellten dem HERRN
23(wie denn geschrieben steht in dem Gesetz des HERRN: “Allerlei männliches, das zum ersten die Mutter bricht, soll dem HERRN geheiligt heißen”)
24und das sie gäben das Opfer, wie es gesagt ist im Gesetz des HERRN: “Ein Paar Turteltauben oder zwei junge Tauben.”
25Und siehe, ein Mensch war zu Jerusalem, mit Namen Simeon; und derselbe Mensch war fromm und gottesfürchtig und wartete auf den Trost Israels, und der heilige Geist war in ihm.
26Und ihm war eine Antwort geworden von dem heiligen Geist, er sollte den Tod nicht sehen, er hätte denn zuvor den Christus des HERRN gesehen.
27Und er kam aus Anregen des Geistes in den Tempel. Und da die Eltern das Kind Jesus in den Tempel brachten, daß sie für ihn täten, wie man pflegt nach dem Gesetz,
28da nahm er ihn auf seine Arme und lobte Gott und sprach:
29HERR, nun läßt du deinen Diener in Frieden fahren, wie du gesagt hast;
30denn meine Augen haben deinen Heiland gesehen,
31welchen du bereitest hast vor allen Völkern,
32ein Licht, zu erleuchten die Heiden, und zum Preis deines Volkes Israel.
33Und sein Vater und seine Mutter wunderten sich des, das von ihm geredet ward.
34Und Simeon segnete sie und sprach zu Maria, seiner Mutter: Siehe, dieser wird gesetzt zu einem Fall und Auferstehen vieler in Israel und zu einem Zeichen, dem widersprochen wird
35(und es wird ein Schwert durch deine Seele dringen), auf daß vieler Herzen Gedanken offenbar werden.
36Und es war eine Prophetin, Hanna, eine Tochter Phanuels, vom Geschlecht Asser; die war wohl betagt und hatte gelebt sieben Jahre mit ihrem Manne nach ihrer Jungfrauschaft
37und war nun eine Witwe bei vierundachtzig Jahren; die kam nimmer vom Tempel, diente Gott mit Fasten und Beten Tag und Nacht.
38Die trat auch hinzu zu derselben Stunde und pries den HERRN und redete von ihm zu allen, die da auf die Erlösung zu Jerusalem warteten.
39Und da sie alles vollendet hatten nach dem Gesetz des HERRN, kehrten sie wieder nach Galiläa zu ihrer Stadt Nazareth.
40Aber das Kind wuchs und ward stark im Geist, voller Weisheit, und Gottes Gnade war bei ihm.
41Und seine Eltern gingen alle Jahre gen Jerusalem auf das Osterfest.
42Und da er zwölf Jahre alt war, gingen sie hinauf gen Jerusalem nach der Gewohnheit des Festes.
43Und da die Tage vollendet waren und sie wieder nach Hause gingen, blieb das Kind Jesus zu Jerusalem, und seine Eltern wußten's nicht.
44Sie meinten aber, er wäre unter den Gefährten, und kamen eine Tagereise weit und suchten ihn unter den Gefreunden und Bekannten.
45Und da sie ihn nicht fanden, gingen sie wiederum gen Jerusalem und suchten ihn.
46Und es begab sich, nach drei Tagen fanden sie ihn im Tempel sitzen mitten unter den Lehrern, wie er ihnen zuhörte und sie fragte.
47Und alle, die ihm zuhörten, verwunderten sich seines Verstandes und seiner Antworten.
48Und da sie ihn sahen, entsetzten sie sich. Seine Mutter aber sprach zu ihm: Mein Sohn, warum hast du uns das getan? Siehe, dein Vater und ich haben dich mit Schmerzen gesucht.
49Und er sprach zu ihnen: Was ist's, daß ihr mich gesucht habt? Wisset ihr nicht, daß ich sein muß in dem, das meines Vaters ist?
50Und sie verstanden das Wort nicht, das er mit ihnen redete.
51Und er ging mit ihnen hinab und kam gen Nazareth und war ihnen untertan. Und seine Mutter behielt alle diese Worte in ihrem Herzen.
52Und Jesus nahm zu an Weisheit, Alter und Gnade bei Gott und den Menschen.

1Y ACONTECIÓ en aquellos días que salió edicto de parte de Augusto César, que toda la tierra fuese empadronada.
2Este empadronamiento primero fué hecho siendo Cirenio gobernador de la Siria.
3E iban todos para ser empadronados, cada uno á su ciudad.
4Y subió José de Galilea, de la ciudad de Nazaret, á Judea, á la ciudad de David, que se llama Bethlehem, por cuanto era de la casa y familia de David;
5Para ser empadronado con María su mujer, desposada con él, la cual estaba en cinta.
6Y aconteció que estando ellos allí, se cumplieron los días en que ella había de parir.
7Y parió á su hijo primogénito, y le envolvió en pañales, y acostóle en un pesebre, porque no había lugar para ellos en el mesón.
8Y había pastores en la misma tierra, que velaban y guardaban las vigilias de la noche sobre su ganado.
9Y he aquí el ángel del Señor vino sobre ellos, y la claridad de Dios los cercó de resplandor; y tuvieron gran temor.
10Mas el ángel les dijo: No temáis; porque he aquí os doy nuevas de gran gozo, que será para todo el pueblo:
11Que os ha nacido hoy, en la ciudad de David, un Salvador, que es CRISTO el Señor.
12Y esto os será por señal: hallaréis al niño envuelto en pañales, echado en un pesebre.
13Y repentinamente fué con el ángel una multitud de los ejércitos celestiales, que alababan á Dios, y decían:
14Gloria en las alturas á Dios, y en la tierra paz, buena voluntad para con los hombres.
15Y aconteció que como los ángeles se fueron de ellos al cielo, los pastores dijeron los unos á los otros: Pasemos pues hasta Bethlehem, y veamos esto que ha sucedido, que el Señor nos ha manifestado.
16Y vinieron apriesa, y hallaron á María, y á José, y al niño acostado en el pesebre.
17Y viéndolo, hicieron notorio lo que les había sido dicho del niño.
18Y todos los que oyeron, se maravillaron de lo que los pastores les decían.
19Mas María guardaba todas estas cosas, confiriéndolas en su corazón.
20Y se volvieron los pastores glorificando y alabando á Dios de todas las cosas que habían oído y visto, como les había sido dicho.
21Y pasados los ocho días para circuncidar al niño, llamaron su nombre JESÚS; el cual le fué puesto por el ángel antes que él fuese concebido en el vientre.
22Y como se cumplieron los días de la purificación de ella, conforme á la ley de Moisés, le trajeron á Jerusalem para presentarle al Señor,
23(Como está escrito en la ley del Señor: Todo varón que abriere la matriz, será llamado santo al Señor),
24Y para dar la ofrenda, conforme á lo que está dicho en la ley del Señor: un par de tórtolas, ó dos palominos.
25Y he aquí, había un hombre en Jerusalem, llamado Simeón, y este hombre, justo y pío, esperaba la consolación de Israel: y el Espíritu Santo era sobre él.
26Y había recibido respuesta del Espíritu Santo, que no vería la muerte antes que viese al Cristo del Señor.
27Y vino por Espíritu al templo. Y cuando metieron al niño Jesús sus padres en el templo, para hacer por él conforme á la costumbre de la ley,
28Entonces él le tomó en sus brazos, y bendijo á Dios, y dijo:
29Ahora despides, Señor, á tu siervo, conforme á tu palabra, en paz;
30Porque han visto mis ojos tu salvación,
31La cual has aparejado en presencia de todos los pueblos;
32Luz para ser revelada á los Gentiles, y la gloria de tu pueblo Israel.
33Y José y su madre estaban maravillados de las cosas que se decían de él.
34Y los bendijo Simeón, y dijo á su madre María: He aquí, éste es puesto para caída y para levantamiento de muchos en Israel; y para señal á la que será contradicho;
35Y una espada traspasará tu alma de ti misma, para que sean manifestados los pensamientos de muchos corazones.
36Estaba también allí Ana, profetisa, hija de Phanuel, de la tribu de Aser; la cual había venido en grande edad, y había vivido con su marido siete años desde su virginidad;
37Y era viuda de hasta ochenta y cuatro años, que no se apartaba del templo, sirviendo de noche y de día con ayunos y oraciones.
38Y ésta, sobreviniendo en la misma hora, juntamente confesaba al Señor, y hablaba de él á todos los que esperaban la redención en Jerusalem.
39Mas como cumplieron todas las cosas según la ley del Señor, se volvieron á Galilea, á su ciudad de Nazaret.
40Y el niño crecía, y fortalecíase, y se henchía de sabiduría; y la gracia de Dios era sobre él.
41E iban sus padres todos los años á Jerusalem en la fiesta de la Pascua.
42Y cuando fué de doce años, subieron ellos á Jerusalem conforme á la costumbre del día de la fiesta.
43Y acabados los días, volviendo ellos, se quedó el niño Jesús en Jerusalem, sin saberlo José y su madre.
44Y pensando que estaba en la compañía, anduvieron camino de un día; y le buscaban entre los parientes y entre los conocidos:
45Mas como no le hallasen, volvieron á Jerusalem buscándole.
46Y aconteció, que tres días después le hallaron en el templo, sentado en medio de los doctores, oyéndoles y preguntándoles.
47Y todos los que le oían, se pasmaban de su entendimiento y de sus respuestas.
48Y cuando le vieron, se maravillaron; y díjole su madre: Hijo, ¿por qué nos has hecho así? He aquí, tu padre y yo te hemos buscado con dolor.
49Entonces él les dice: ¿Qué hay? ¿por qué me buscabais? ¿No sabíais que en los negocios de mi Padre me conviene estar?
50Mas ellos no entendieron las palabras que les habló.
51Y descendió con ellos, y vino á Nazaret, y estaba sujeto á ellos. Y su madre guardaba todas estas cosas en su corazón.
52Y Jesús crecía en sabiduría, y en edad, y en gracia para con Dios y los hombres.

1And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Cæsar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.
2(And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)
3And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.
4And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judæa, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)
5To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
6And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
7And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
8And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
9And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
10And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
11For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
12And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
13And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
14Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
15And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.
16And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.
17And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.
18And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.
19But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.
20And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.
21And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb.
22And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord;
23(As it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord;)
24And to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.
25And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him.
26And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.
27And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law,
28Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,
29Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:
30For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,
31Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;

36And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity;
37And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.
38And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.
39And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city Nazareth.
40And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.
41Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover.
42And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast.
43And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it.
44But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day’s journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance.
45And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him.
46And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions.
47And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.
48And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.
49And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business?
50And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them.
51And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.
52And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.

1Now in those days, a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be enrolled.
2This was the first enrollment made when Quirinius was governor of Syria.
3All went to enroll themselves, everyone to his own city.
4Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to David’s city, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David,
5to enroll himself with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him as wife, being pregnant.
6While they were there, the day had come for her to give birth.
7She gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him in bands of cloth and laid him in a feeding trough, because there was no room for them in the inn.
8There were shepherds in the same country staying in the field, and keeping watch by night over their flock.
9Behold, an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.
10The angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be to all the people.
11For there is born to you today, in David’s city, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
12This is the sign to you: you will find a baby wrapped in strips of cloth, lying in a feeding trough.”
13Suddenly, there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly army praising God and saying,
14“Glory to God in the highest, on earth peace, good will toward men.”
15When the angels went away from them into the sky, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem, now, and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.”
16They came with haste and found both Mary and Joseph, and the baby was lying in the feeding trough.
17When they saw it, they publicized widely the saying which was spoken to them about this child.
18All who heard it wondered at the things which were spoken to them by the shepherds.
19But Mary kept all these sayings, pondering them in her heart.
20The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, just as it was told them.

28then he received him into his arms and blessed God, and said,
29“Now you are releasing your servant, Master, according to your word, in peace;
30for my eyes have seen your salvation,
31which you have prepared before the face of all peoples;
32a light for revelation to the nations, and the glory of your people Israel.”
33Joseph and his mother were marveling at the things which were spoken concerning him.
34Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary, his mother, “Behold, this child is appointed for the falling and the rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which is spoken against.
35Yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul, that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”
36There was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher (she was of a great age, having lived with a husband seven years from her virginity,
37and she had been a widow for about eighty-four years), who didn’t depart from the temple, worshiping with fastings and petitions night and day.
38Coming up at that very hour, she gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of him to all those who were looking for redemption in Jerusalem.
39When they had accomplished all things that were according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city, Nazareth.
40The child was growing, and was becoming strong in spirit, being filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon him.
41His parents went every year to Jerusalem at the feast of the Passover.
42When he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the feast;
43and when they had fulfilled the days, as they were returning, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. Joseph and his mother didn’t know it,

45When they didn’t find him, they returned to Jerusalem, looking for him.
46After three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the middle of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions.
47All who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers.
48When they saw him, they were astonished; and his mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us this way? Behold, your father and I were anxiously looking for you.”
49He said to them, “Why were you looking for me? Didn’t you know that I must be in my Father’s house?”
50They didn’t understand the saying which he spoke to them.
51And he went down with them and came to Nazareth. He was subject to them, and his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.
52And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.
