Lucas 2

Por aquellos días, César Augusto mandó que se hiciera un censo en todo el imperio romano.

Y ACONTECIÓ en aquellos días que salió edicto de parte de Augusto César, que toda la tierra fuese empadronada.

And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Cæsar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.

Now in those days, a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be enrolled.

Este primer censo se hizo cuando Cirenio era gobernador de Siria.

Este empadronamiento primero fué hecho siendo Cirenio gobernador de la Siria.

(And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)

This was the first enrollment made when Quirinius was governor of Syria.

Todos tenían que ir a su pueblo de origen para inscribirse.

E iban todos para ser empadronados, cada uno á su ciudad.

And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.

All went to enroll themselves, everyone to his own city.

También José, que era descendiente del rey David, tuvo que ir de Nazaret, que era una ciudad de la región de Galilea, a Belén, que estaba en Judea. Esa era la ciudad de David,

Y subió José de Galilea, de la ciudad de Nazaret, á Judea, á la ciudad de David, que se llama Bethlehem, por cuanto era de la casa y familia de David;

And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judæa, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)

Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to David’s city, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David,

y José fue allí para inscribirse junto con María, su esposa, que estaba embarazada.

Para ser empadronado con María su mujer, desposada con él, la cual estaba en cinta.

To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.

to enroll himself with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him as wife, being pregnant.

Mientras estaban en Belén, a ella le llegó el tiempo,

Y aconteció que estando ellos allí, se cumplieron los días en que ella había de parir.

And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.

While they were there, the day had come for her to give birth.

y dio a luz a su primer hijo. Lo envolvió en pañales y lo acostó en un pesebre, porque no habían encontrado lugar para ellos en la posada.

Y parió á su hijo primogénito, y le envolvió en pañales, y acostóle en un pesebre, porque no había lugar para ellos en el mesón.

And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

She gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him in bands of cloth and laid him in a feeding trough, because there was no room for them in the inn.

Por aquella misma región había unos pastores que pasaban la noche en el campo cuidando a sus ovejas.

Y había pastores en la misma tierra, que velaban y guardaban las vigilias de la noche sobre su ganado.

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

There were shepherds in the same country staying in the field, and keeping watch by night over their flock.

De pronto, un ángel del Señor se les apareció y la gloria del Señor brilló y los envolvió. Los pastores se llenaron de miedo.

Y he aquí el ángel del Señor vino sobre ellos, y la claridad de Dios los cercó de resplandor; y tuvieron gran temor.

And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

Behold, an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.

Pero el ángel les dijo: «¡No tengan miedo! Les traigo buenas noticias que van a llenar de alegría a todo el pueblo:

Mas el ángel les dijo: No temáis; porque he aquí os doy nuevas de gran gozo, que será para todo el pueblo:

And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

The angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be to all the people.

Hoy ha nacido, en la ciudad de David, su Salvador, que es Cristo el Señor.

Que os ha nacido hoy, en la ciudad de David, un Salvador, que es CRISTO el Señor.

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

For there is born to you today, in David’s city, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

Se darán cuenta de que es él, porque lo encontrarán envuelto en pañales y acostado en un pesebre».

Y esto os será por señal: hallaréis al niño envuelto en pañales, echado en un pesebre.

And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

This is the sign to you: you will find a baby wrapped in strips of cloth, lying in a feeding trough.”

De repente aparecieron muchos ángeles del cielo que alababan a Dios y decían:

Y repentinamente fué con el ángel una multitud de los ejércitos celestiales, que alababan á Dios, y decían:

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

Suddenly, there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly army praising God and saying,

«Gloria a Dios en las alturas, y paz en la tierra para los que gozan de su buena voluntad».

Gloria en las alturas á Dios, y en la tierra paz, buena voluntad para con los hombres.

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

“Glory to God in the highest, on earth peace, good will toward men.”

Cuando los ángeles volvieron al cielo, los pastores se dijeron unos a otros: «Vamos a Belén, a ver esto que ha pasado y que el Señor nos ha anunciado».

Y aconteció que como los ángeles se fueron de ellos al cielo, los pastores dijeron los unos á los otros: Pasemos pues hasta Bethlehem, y veamos esto que ha sucedido, que el Señor nos ha manifestado.

And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.

When the angels went away from them into the sky, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem, now, and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.”

Fueron de prisa y encontraron a María y a José, y al niño acostado en el pesebre.

Y vinieron apriesa, y hallaron á María, y á José, y al niño acostado en el pesebre.

And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.

They came with haste and found both Mary and Joseph, and the baby was lying in the feeding trough.

Cuando lo vieron, contaron lo que les habían dicho acerca del niño.

Y viéndolo, hicieron notorio lo que les había sido dicho del niño.

And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.

When they saw it, they publicized widely the saying which was spoken to them about this child.

Todos los que oyeron se quedaron asombrados de lo que decían los pastores.

Y todos los que oyeron, se maravillaron de lo que los pastores les decían.

And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.

All who heard it wondered at the things which were spoken to them by the shepherds.

Pero María guardaba todas estas cosas en su corazón y no dejaba de pensar en ellas.

But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.

Los pastores regresaron dando la gloria a Dios y alabándolo por lo que habían visto y oído. Todo sucedió tal como se les había dicho.

Y se volvieron los pastores glorificando y alabando á Dios de todas las cosas que habían oído y visto, como les había sido dicho.

And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.

Ocho días más tarde fueron a circuncidar al niño, y le pusieron el nombre de Jesús, tal como el ángel le había dicho a María antes de quedar embarazada.

Y pasados los ocho días para circuncidar al niño, llamaron su nombre JESÚS; el cual le fué puesto por el ángel antes que él fuese concebido en el vientre.

And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb.

When eight days were fulfilled for the circumcision of the child, his name was called Jesus, which was given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.

Cuando llegó el día en que, según la ley de Moisés, ellos debían purificarse, José y María llevaron al niño a Jerusalén para presentárselo al Señor.

Y como se cumplieron los días de la purificación de ella, conforme á la ley de Moisés, le trajeron á Jerusalem para presentarle al Señor,

And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord;

When the days of their purification according to the law of Moses were fulfilled, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord

Así lo hicieron para cumplir con la ley del Señor, que dice: «Siempre que el primer hijo sea varón, deberán dedicárselo al Señor».

(Como está escrito en la ley del Señor: Todo varón que abriere la matriz, será llamado santo al Señor),

(As it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord;)

(as it is written in the law of the Lord, “Every male who opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord”),

También fueron a ofrecer el sacrificio que manda la ley del Señor, que dice: «un par de tórtolas o dos pichones».

Y para dar la ofrenda, conforme á lo que está dicho en la ley del Señor: un par de tórtolas, ó dos palominos.

And to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.

and to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, “A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.”

En aquel tiempo había en Jerusalén un hombre llamado Simeón, que era justo y piadoso. Vivía con la esperanza de que Dios libertara a Israel. El Espíritu Santo estaba con él

Y he aquí, había un hombre en Jerusalem, llamado Simeón, y este hombre, justo y pío, esperaba la consolación de Israel: y el Espíritu Santo era sobre él.

And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him.

Behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on him.

y le había hecho saber que no moriría sin antes ver al Cristo del Señor.

Y había recibido respuesta del Espíritu Santo, que no vería la muerte antes que viese al Cristo del Señor.

And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.

It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.

El Espíritu Santo guio a Simeón y fue al templo. Cuando los padres del niño Jesús lo llevaron para cumplir con la costumbre que manda la ley,

Y vino por Espíritu al templo. Y cuando metieron al niño Jesús sus padres en el templo, para hacer por él conforme á la costumbre de la ley,

And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law,

He came in the Spirit into the temple. When the parents brought in the child, Jesus, that they might do concerning him according to the custom of the law,

Simeón lo tomó en sus brazos y alabó a Dios, diciendo:

Entonces él le tomó en sus brazos, y bendijo á Dios, y dijo:

Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,

then he received him into his arms and blessed God, and said,

«Ahora, Soberano Señor, tu palabra se ha cumplido: ya puedes dejar que este tu siervo muera en paz,

Ahora despides, Señor, á tu siervo, conforme á tu palabra, en paz;

Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:

“Now you are releasing your servant, Master, according to your word, in peace;

porque mis ojos han visto tu salvación,

Porque han visto mis ojos tu salvación,

For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,

for my eyes have seen your salvation,

la que has preparado a la vista de todos los pueblos;

La cual has aparejado en presencia de todos los pueblos;

Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;

which you have prepared before the face of all peoples;

es la luz que alumbrará a las naciones y la gloria de tu pueblo Israel».

Luz para ser revelada á los Gentiles, y la gloria de tu pueblo Israel.

A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.

a light for revelation to the nations, and the glory of your people Israel.”

El padre y la madre del niño se quedaron asombrados de lo que decía de él.

Y José y su madre estaban maravillados de las cosas que se decían de él.

And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him.

Joseph and his mother were marveling at the things which were spoken concerning him.

Simeón los bendijo y le dijo a María, la madre de Jesús: «Este niño ha sido enviado para hacer que muchos caigan o se levanten en Israel. Él será una señal y muchos se le opondrán,

Y los bendijo Simeón, y dijo á su madre María: He aquí, éste es puesto para caída y para levantamiento de muchos en Israel; y para señal á la que será contradicho;

And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against;

Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary, his mother, “Behold, this child is appointed for the falling and the rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which is spoken against.

así se conocerán las intenciones de cada uno. Esto será para ti como una espada que te atravesará el alma».

Y una espada traspasará tu alma de ti misma, para que sean manifestados los pensamientos de muchos corazones.

(Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.

Yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul, that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”

También estaba en el templo una profetisa, Ana, hija de Penuel, que pertenecía a la tribu de Aser. Era muy anciana. Cuando era joven, había vivido con su esposo siete años,

Estaba también allí Ana, profetisa, hija de Phanuel, de la tribu de Aser; la cual había venido en grande edad, y había vivido con su marido siete años desde su virginidad;

And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity;

There was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher (she was of a great age, having lived with a husband seven years from her virginity,

pero entonces quedó viuda y ahora ya tenía ochenta y cuatro años de edad. Nunca salía del templo; se pasaba noche y día adorando a Dios con ayunos y oraciones.

Y era viuda de hasta ochenta y cuatro años, que no se apartaba del templo, sirviendo de noche y de día con ayunos y oraciones.

And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.

and she had been a widow for about eighty-four years), who didn’t depart from the temple, worshiping with fastings and petitions night and day.

Ana llegó también en aquel mismo momento, dio gracias a Dios y comenzó a hablar del niño a todos los que esperaban que Dios liberara a Jerusalén.

Y ésta, sobreviniendo en la misma hora, juntamente confesaba al Señor, y hablaba de él á todos los que esperaban la redención en Jerusalem.

And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.

Coming up at that very hour, she gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of him to all those who were looking for redemption in Jerusalem.

Después de haber cumplido con todo lo que mandaba la ley, José y María regresaron a Galilea, a su propio pueblo de Nazaret.

Mas como cumplieron todas las cosas según la ley del Señor, se volvieron á Galilea, á su ciudad de Nazaret.

And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city Nazareth.

When they had accomplished all things that were according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city, Nazareth.

El niño crecía y se fortalecía; se llenaba de sabiduría y Dios lo favorecía.

Y el niño crecía, y fortalecíase, y se henchía de sabiduría; y la gracia de Dios era sobre él.

And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.

The child was growing, and was becoming strong in spirit, being filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon him.

Los padres de Jesús iban todos los años a Jerusalén para la fiesta de la Pascua.

E iban sus padres todos los años á Jerusalem en la fiesta de la Pascua.

Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover.

His parents went every year to Jerusalem at the feast of the Passover.

Cuando él cumplió doce años, fueron allá como era su costumbre.

Y cuando fué de doce años, subieron ellos á Jerusalem conforme á la costumbre del día de la fiesta.

And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast.

Al terminar la fiesta, se regresaron, pero el niño Jesús se quedó en Jerusalén sin que sus padres se dieran cuenta.

Y acabados los días, volviendo ellos, se quedó el niño Jesús en Jerusalem, sin saberlo José y su madre.

And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it.

and when they had fulfilled the days, as they were returning, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. Joseph and his mother didn’t know it,

Ellos caminaron todo un día pensando que Jesús iba entre los familiares y conocidos. Cuando lo buscaron

Y pensando que estaba en la compañía, anduvieron camino de un día; y le buscaban entre los parientes y entre los conocidos:

But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day’s journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance.

but supposing him to be in the company, they went a day’s journey; and they looked for him among their relatives and acquaintances.

y no lo encontraron, volvieron a Jerusalén para buscarlo.

Mas como no le hallasen, volvieron á Jerusalem buscándole.

And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him.

When they didn’t find him, they returned to Jerusalem, looking for him.

Después de tres días, lo encontraron en el templo, sentado entre los maestros de la ley, escuchándolos y haciéndoles preguntas.

Y aconteció, que tres días después le hallaron en el templo, sentado en medio de los doctores, oyéndoles y preguntándoles.

And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions.

After three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the middle of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions.

Todos los que lo oían se quedaban asombrados de su inteligencia y de sus respuestas.

Y todos los que le oían, se pasmaban de su entendimiento y de sus respuestas.

And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.

All who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers.

Cuando sus padres lo vieron, también se quedaron admirados. Su madre le dijo: ―Hijo, ¿por qué nos has hecho esto? ¡Tu padre y yo te hemos estado buscando llenos de angustia!

Y cuando le vieron, se maravillaron; y díjole su madre: Hijo, ¿por qué nos has hecho así? He aquí, tu padre y yo te hemos buscado con dolor.

And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.

When they saw him, they were astonished; and his mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us this way? Behold, your father and I were anxiously looking for you.”

Él le respondió: ―¿Por qué me buscaban? ¿No sabían que tengo que estar en la casa de mi Padre?

Entonces él les dice: ¿Qué hay? ¿por qué me buscabais? ¿No sabíais que en los negocios de mi Padre me conviene estar?

And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business?

He said to them, “Why were you looking for me? Didn’t you know that I must be in my Father’s house?”

Pero ellos no entendieron lo que él les quería decir.

Mas ellos no entendieron las palabras que les habló.

And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them.

They didn’t understand the saying which he spoke to them.

Entonces Jesús volvió con sus padres a Nazaret y los obedecía en todo. Pero su madre guardaba todas estas cosas en el corazón.

Y descendió con ellos, y vino á Nazaret, y estaba sujeto á ellos. Y su madre guardaba todas estas cosas en su corazón.

And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.

And he went down with them and came to Nazareth. He was subject to them, and his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.

Jesús seguía creciendo en sabiduría y estatura, y gozaba más y más del favor de Dios y de la gente.

Y Jesús crecía en sabiduría, y en edad, y en gracia para con Dios y los hombres.

And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.
