Anás y Caifás eran los sumos sacerdotes en turno. Este fue el tiempo en que la palabra de Dios vino a Juan, el hijo de Zacarías, quien vivía en el desierto.

Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.

Juan salió por toda la región del Jordán anunciando a todos que era necesario que se bautizaran y se arrepintieran, y sus pecados serían perdonados.
Y él vino por toda la tierra al rededor del Jordán predicando el bautismo del arrepentimiento para la remisión de pecados;
And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins;

Tal como lo escribió el profeta Isaías: “Se oyó una voz clamando en el desierto: ‘Preparen el camino del Señor: enderecen su senda.
Como está escrito en el libro de las palabras del profeta Isaías que dice: Voz del que clama en el desierto: Aparejad el camino del Señor, haced derechas sus sendas.
As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, “The voice of one crying in the wilderness, ‘Make ready the way of the Lord. Make his paths straight.
Todo valle será rellenado, y toda montaña será allanada. Las curvas serán enderezadas, y los caminos ásperos serán suavizados.
Todo valle se henchirá, y bajaráse todo monte y collado; y los caminos torcidos serán enderezados, y los caminos ásperos allanados;
Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth;

Todos ser humano verá la salvación de Dios’”.
Y verá toda carne la salvación de Dios.
And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.

Juan se dirigió a una multitud que vino a él para bautizarse. “¡Camada de víboras! ¿Quién les advirtió que escaparan del juicio venidero?” les preguntó.
Y decía á las gentes que salían para ser bautizadas de él: ¡Oh generación de víboras, quién os enseñó á huir de la ira que vendrá?
Then said he to the multitude that came forth to be baptized of him, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
He said therefore to the multitudes who went out to be baptized by him, “You offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
“¡Demuestren que están realmente arrepentidos! No traten de justificarse diciendo: ‘Somos los descendientes de Abraham’. Les digo que Dios puede crear hijos de Abraham a partir de estas piedras.
Haced, pues, frutos dignos de arrepentimiento, y no comencéis á decir en vosotros mismos: Tenemos á Abraham por padre: porque os digo que puede Dios, aun de estas piedras, levantar hijos á Abraham.
Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, That God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
Therefore produce fruits worthy of repentance, and don’t begin to say among yourselves, ‘We have Abraham for our father;’ for I tell you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones!
El hacha está lista para comenzar a cortar los árboles desde su base. Cualquier árbol que no produzca buen fruto será cortado y lanzado al fuego”.
Y ya también el hacha está puesta á la raíz de los árboles: todo árbol pues que no hace buen fruto, es cortado, y echado en el fuego.
And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
Even now the ax also lies at the root of the trees. Every tree therefore that doesn’t produce good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.”
“¿Entonces qué debemos hacer?” le preguntó la multitud.
Y las gentes le preguntaban, diciendo: ¿Pues qué haremos?
And the people asked him, saying, What shall we do then?
The multitudes asked him, “What then must we do?”
“Si tienes dos mantos, entonces comparte tu manto con quien no tiene. Si tienes alimento, comparte con los que no tienen”, les decía.
Y respondiendo, les dijo: El que tiene dos túnicas, dé al que no tiene; y el que tiene qué comer, haga lo mismo.
He answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise.
He answered them, “He who has two coats, let him give to him who has none. He who has food, let him do likewise.”
Y algunos recaudadores de impuestos vinieron para bautizarse. “Maestro, ¿qué debemos hacer?” le preguntaron también.
Y vinieron también publicanos para ser bautizados, y le dijeron: Maestro, ¿qué haremos?
Then came also publicans to be baptized, and said unto him, Master, what shall we do?
Tax collectors also came to be baptized, and they said to him, “Teacher, what must we do?”
“No recauden más de lo que deben cobrar”, respondió él.
Y él les dijo: No exijáis más de lo que os está ordenado.
And he said unto them, Exact no more than that which is appointed you.
He said to them, “Collect no more than that which is appointed to you.”
“¿Y nosotros?” le preguntaron algunos soldados. “¿Qué debemos hacer?” “No pidan dinero amenazando con violencia. No hagan acusaciones falsas. Estén conformes con sus salarios”, respondió él.
Y le preguntaron también los soldados, diciendo: Y nosotros, ¿qué haremos? Y les dice: No hagáis extorsión á nadie, ni calumniéis; y contentaos con vuestras pagas.
And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely; and be content with your wages.
Soldiers also asked him, saying, “What about us? What must we do?” He said to them, “Extort from no one by violence, neither accuse anyone wrongfully. Be content with your wages.”
La gente estaba a la expectativa oyendo, y se preguntaban si Juan podría ser el Mesías.
Y estando el pueblo esperando, y pensando todos de Juan en sus corazones, si él fuese el Cristo,
And as the people were in expectation, and all men mused in their hearts of John, whether he were the Christ, or not;
As the people were in expectation, and all men reasoned in their hearts concerning John, whether perhaps he was the Christ,
Juan respondió y les explicó a todos: “Sí, yo los bautizo en agua. Pero el que viene es más importante que yo, y yo no soy digno siquiera de desabrochar su calzado. Él los bautizará con el Espíritu Santo y con fuego.
Respondió Juan, diciendo á todos: Yo, á la verdad, os bautizo en agua; mas viene quien es más poderoso que yo, de quien no soy digno de desatar la correa de sus zapatos: él os bautizará en Espíritu Santo y fuego;
John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire:
John answered them all, “I indeed baptize you with water, but he comes who is mightier than I, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to loosen. He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and fire.
Tiene el aventador en su mano y está listo para separar el trigo de la paja en su trilla. Él reunirá el trigo en sus graneros, pero quemará la paja con un fuego que no puede apagarse”.
Cuyo bieldo está en su mano, y limpiará su era, y juntará el trigo en su alfolí, y la paja quemará en fuego que nunca se apagará.
Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.
His winnowing fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing floor, and will gather the wheat into his barn; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”
Juan dio muchas advertencias como estas mientras anunciaba la buena noticia a la gente.
Y amonestando, otras muchas cosas también anunciaba al pueblo.
And many other things in his exhortation preached he unto the people.
Then with many other exhortations he preached good news to the people,
Pero cuando Juan reprendió a Herodes, el gobernador, por casarse con Herodías, quien era la esposa del hermano de Herodes, y por todas las cosas malas que había hecho,
Entonces Herodes el tetrarca, siendo reprendido por él á causa de Herodías, mujer de Felipe su hermano, y de todas las maldades que había hecho Herodes,
But Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him for Herodias his brother Philip’s wife, and for all the evils which Herod had done,

entonces Herodes agregó un crimen más sobre sí enviando a Juan a la cárcel.
Añadió también esto sobre todo, que encerró á Juan en la cárcel.

Aconteció que después de que todos habían sido bautizados, Jesús también se bautizó. Y mientras oraba, se abrió el cielo,

Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened,

y el Espíritu Santo descendió sobre él, tomando forma de una paloma. Y una voz salió del cielo, diciendo: “Tú eres mi hijo, al que amo. Estoy realmente complacido de ti”.
Y descendió el Espíritu Santo sobre él en forma corporal, como paloma, y fué hecha una voz del cielo que decía: Tú eres mi Hijo amado, en ti me he complacido.
And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.
