Estaba allí a la sazón un centurión que tenía enfermo y a la muerte un criado, a quien estimaba mucho.

Habiendo oído hablar de Jesús , le envió algunos de los ancianos o senadores de los judíos, a suplicarle que viniese a curar a su criado.
Y como oyó hablar de Jesús, envió á él los ancianos de los Judíos, rogándole que viniese y librase á su siervo.
And when he heard of Jesus, he sent unto him the elders of the Jews, beseeching him that he would come and heal his servant.

Ellos en consecuencia llegados que fueron a Jesús , le rogaban con gran empeño que condescendiese: Es un sujeto, le decían, que merece que les hagas este favor,

And when they came to Jesus, they besought him instantly, saying, That he was worthy for whom he should do this:

porque es afecto a nuestra nación, y aun nos ha construido una sinagoga.

Iba, pues, Jesús con ellos. Y estando ya cerca de la casa, el centurión le envió a decir por sus amigos: Señor, no te tomes esa molestia, que no merezco yo que tú entres dentro de mi morada.
Y Jesús fué con ellos. Mas como ya no estuviesen lejos de su casa, envió el centurión amigos á él, diciéndole: Señor, no te incomodes, que no soy digno que entres debajo de mi tejado;

Pues aun yo que soy un oficial subalterno, como tengo soldados a mis órdenes, digo a éste: Ve, y va; y al otro: Ven, y viene; y a mi criado: Haz esto, y lo hace.

For I also am a man set under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say unto one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.

Así que Jesús oyó esto, quedó como admirado, y vuelto a las muchas gentes que le seguían, dijo: En verdad os digo, que ni aun en Israel he hallado fe tan grande.
Lo cual oyendo Jesús, se maravilló de él, y vuelto, dijo á las gentes que le seguían: Os digo que ni aun en Israel he hallado tanta fe.
When Jesus heard these things, he marvelled at him, and turned him about, and said unto the people that followed him, I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.

Vueltos a casa los enviados, hallaron sano al criado que había estado enfermo.

And they that were sent, returning to the house, found the servant whole that had been sick.

Sucedió después que iba Jesús camino de la ciudad llamada Naím, y con él iban sus discípulos y mucho gentío.
Y aconteció después, que él iba á la ciudad que se llama Naín, é iban con él muchos de sus discípulos, y gran compañía.
And it came to pass the day after, that he went into a city called Nain; and many of his disciples went with him, and much people.

Y cuando estaba cerca de la puerta de la ciudad, he aquí que sacaban a enterrar a un difunto, hijo único de su madre, la cual era viuda; e iba con ella gran acompañamiento de personas de la ciudad.

Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her.

Así que la vio el Señor, movido a compasión, le dijo: No llores.
Y como el Señor la vió, compadecióse de ella, y le dice: No llores.
And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not.

Y se arrimó y tocó el féretro. (Y los que lo llevaban, se pararon). Dijo entonces: Mancebo, yo te lo mando, levántate.

And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise.
He came near and touched the coffin, and the bearers stood still. He said, “Young man, I tell you, arise!”
Y luego se incorporó el difunto, y comenzó a hablar. Y Jesús lo entregó a su madre.

And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother.

Con esto quedaron todos penetrados de temor, y glorificaban a Dios, diciendo: Un gran profeta ha aparecido entre nosotros, y Dios ha visitado a su pueblo.
Y todos tuvieron miedo, y glorificaban á Dios, diciendo: Que un gran profeta se ha levantado entre nosotros; y que Dios ha visitado á su pueblo.
And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people.

Y se esparció la fama de este milagro por toda la Judea y por todas las regiones circunvecinas.
Y salió esta fama de él por toda Judea, y por toda la tierra de alrededor.
And this rumour of him went forth throughout all Judæa, and throughout all the region round about.
This report went out concerning him in the whole of Judea and in all the surrounding region.
De todas estas cosas informaron a Juan sus discípulos.
Y sus discípulos dieron á Juan las nuevas de todas estas cosas: y llamó Juan á dos de sus discípulos,
And the disciples of John shewed him of all these things.

Y Juan, llamando a dos de ellos, los envió a Jesús para que le hiciesen esta pregunta: ¿Eres tú aquel que vendrá a salvar al mundo, o debemos esperar a otro?
Y envió á Jesús, diciendo: ¿Eres tú aquél que había de venir, ó esperaremos á otro?
And John calling unto him two of his disciples sent them to Jesus, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?
John, calling to himself two of his disciples, sent them to Jesus, saying, “Are you the one who is coming, or should we look for another?”
Llegados a él los tales, le dijeron: Juan el Bautista nos ha enviado a ti para preguntarte: ¿Eres tú aquel que vendrá, o debemos esperar a otro?
Y como los hombres vinieron á él, dijeron: Juan el Bautista nos ha enviado á ti, diciendo: ¿Eres tú aquél que había de venir, ó esperaremos á otro?
When the men were come unto him, they said, John Baptist hath sent us unto thee, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?
When the men had come to him, they said, “John the Baptizer has sent us to you, saying, ‘Are you he who comes, or should we look for another?’”
(En la misma hora curó Jesús a muchos de sus enfermedades y llagas, y de espíritus malignos, y dio vista a muchos ciegos).

And in that same hour he cured many of their infirmities and plagues, and of evil spirits; and unto many that were blind he gave sight.

Les respondió, pues, diciendo: Id y contad a Juan las cosas que habéis oído y visto; cómo los ciegos ven, los cojos andan, los leprosos quedan limpios, los sordos oyen, los muertos resucitan, a los pobres se les anuncia la buena nueva,
Y respondiendo Jesús, les dijo: Id, dad las nuevas á Juan de lo que habéis visto y oído: que los ciegos ven, los cojos andan, los leprosos son limpiados, los sordos oyen, los muertos resucitan, á los pobres es anunciado el evangelio:
Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached.
Jesus answered them, “Go and tell John the things which you have seen and heard: that the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them.
y bienaventurado aquel que no se escandalizare de mi proceder.
Y bienaventurado es el que no fuere escandalizado en mí.
And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.
Blessed is he who finds no occasion for stumbling in me.”
Así que hubieron partido los enviados de Juan, Jesús se dirigió al numeroso auditorio, y les habló de Juan en esta forma: ¿Qué salisteis a ver en el desierto?; ¿alguna caña sacudida del viento?
Y como se fueron los mensajeros de Juan, comenzó á hablar de Juan á las gentes: ¿Qué salisteis á ver al desierto? ¿una caña que es agitada por el viento?
And when the messengers of John were departed, he began to speak unto the people concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness for to see? A reed shaken with the wind?
When John’s messengers had departed, he began to tell the multitudes about John, “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?
O ¿qué es lo que salisteis a ver?; ¿algún hombre vestido de ropas delicadas? Ya sabéis que los que visten preciosas ropas y viven en delicias, en palacios de reyes están.
Mas ¿qué salisteis á ver? ¿un hombre cubierto de vestidos delicados? He aquí, los que están en vestido precioso, y viven en delicias, en los palacios de los reyes están.
But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they which are gorgeously apparelled, and live delicately, are in kings’ courts.
But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft clothing? Behold, those who are gorgeously dressed and live delicately are in kings’ courts.
En fin, ¿qué salisteis a ver?; ¿un profeta? Sí, ciertamente, yo os lo aseguro, y aun más que profeta.
Mas ¿qué salisteis á ver? ¿un profeta? También os digo, y aun más que profeta.
But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet.

Pues él es de quien está escrito: Mira que yo envío delante de ti mi ángel, el cual vaya preparándote el camino.
Este es de quien está escrito: He aquí, envío mi mensajero delante de tu faz, el cual aparejará tu camino delante de ti.
This is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
This is he of whom it is written, ‘Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.’
Por lo que os digo: Entre los nacidos de mujeres, ningún profeta es mayor que Juan Bautista; si bien aquel que es el más pequeño en el reino de Dios, es mayor que él.
Porque os digo que entre los nacidos de mujeres, no hay mayor profeta que Juan el Bautista: mas el más pequeño en el reino de los cielos es mayor que él.
For I say unto you, Among those that are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.
“For I tell you, among those who are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptizer; yet he who is least in God’s Kingdom is greater than he.”
Todo el pueblo y los publicanos, habiéndole oído, entraron en los designios de Dios recibiendo el bautismo de Juan.
Y todo el pueblo oyéndole, y los publicanos, justificaron á Dios, bautizándose con el bautismo de Juan.
And all the people that heard him, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John.
When all the people and the tax collectors heard this, they declared God to be just, having been baptized with John’s baptism.
Pero los fariseos y doctores de la ley despreciaron en daño de sí mismos el designio de Dios, no habiendo recibido dicho bautismo .
Mas los Fariseos y los sabios de la ley, desecharon el consejo de Dios contra sí mismos, no siendo bautizados de él.

Ahora bien, concluyó el Señor: ¿A quien diré que es semejante esta raza de hombres?; y ¿a quién se parecen?
Y dice el Señor: ¿A quién, pues, compararé los hombres de esta generación, y á qué son semejantes?
And the Lord said, Whereunto then shall I liken the men of this generation? and to what are they like?
“To what then should I compare the people of this generation? What are they like?
Se parecen a los muchachos sentados en la plaza y que por vía de juego hablan con los de enfrente, y les dicen: Os cantamos al son de la flauta, y no habéis danzado; entonamos lamentaciones, y no habéis llorado.
Semejantes son á los muchachos sentados en la plaza, y que dan voces los unos á los otros, y dicen: Os tañimos con flautas, y no bailasteis: os endechamos, y no llorasteis.
They are like unto children sitting in the marketplace, and calling one to another, and saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned to you, and ye have not wept.
They are like children who sit in the marketplace and call to one another, saying, ‘We piped to you, and you didn’t dance. We mourned, and you didn’t weep.’
Vino Juan Bautista, que ni comía pan, ni bebía vino, y habéis dicho: Está endemoniado.
Porque vino Juan el Bautista, que ni comía pan, ni bebía vino, y decís: Demonio tiene.
For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine; and ye say, He hath a devil.

Ha venido el Hijo del hombre, que come y bebe y decís: He aquí un hombre voraz y bebedor, amigo de publicanos y de gentes de mala vida.

The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners!

Le rogó uno de los fariseos que fuera a comer con él. Y habiendo entrado en casa del fariseo, se puso a la mesa.

And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee’s house, and sat down to meat.

Cuando he aquí que una mujer de la ciudad, que era, o había sido, de mala conducta, luego que supo que se había puesto a la mesa en casa del fariseo, trajo un vaso de alabastro lleno de bálsamo o perfume;

And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster box of ointment,

y arrimándose por detrás a sus pies, comenzó a bañárselos con sus lágrimas, y los limpiaba con los cabellos y los besaba, y derramaba sobre ellos el perfume.
Y estando detrás á sus pies, comenzó llorando á regar con lágrimas sus pies, y los limpiaba con los cabellos de su cabeza; y besaba sus pies, y los ungía con el ungüento.
And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.

Lo que viendo el fariseo que le había convidado, decía para consigo: Si este hombre fuera profeta, bien conocería quién, y qué tal es la mujer que le está tocando, o que es una mujer de mala vida.
Y como vió esto el Fariseo que le había convidado, habló entre sí, diciendo: Este, si fuera profeta, conocería quién y cuál es la mujer que le toca, que es pecadora.
Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner.
Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw it, he said to himself, “This man, if he were a prophet, would have perceived who and what kind of woman this is who touches him, that she is a sinner.”
Jesús respondiendo a su pensamiento, le dijo: Simón, una cosa tengo que decirte. Di, maestro, respondió él.
Entonces respondiendo Jesús, le dijo: Simón, una cosa tengo que decirte. Y él dice: Di, Maestro.
And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on.
Jesus answered him, “Simon, I have something to tell you.” He said, “Teacher, say on.”
Cierto acreedor tenía dos deudores, uno le debía quinientos denarios, y el otro cincuenta.
Un acreedor tenía dos deudores: el uno le debía quinientos denarios, y el otro cincuenta;
There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty.
“A certain lender had two debtors. The one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.
No teniendo ellos con qué pagar, perdonó a ambos la deuda. ¿Cuál de ellos a tu parecer le amará más?
Y no teniendo ellos de qué pagar, perdonó á ambos. Di, pues, ¿cuál de éstos le amará más?
And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most?
When they couldn’t pay, he forgave them both. Which of them therefore will love him most?”
Respondió Simón: Hago juicio que aquel a quien se perdonó más. Y le dijo Jesús : Has juzgado rectamente.
Y respondiendo Simón, dijo: Pienso que aquél al cual perdonó más. Y él le dijo: Rectamente has juzgado.
Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged.
Simon answered, “He, I suppose, to whom he forgave the most.” He said to him, “You have judged correctly.”
Y volviéndose hacia la mujer, dijo a Simón: ¿Ves a esta mujer? Yo entré en tu casa, y no me has dado agua con que se lavaran mis pies; mas ésta ha bañado mis pies con sus lágrimas, y los ha enjugado con sus cabellos.
Y vuelto á la mujer, dijo á Simón: ¿Ves esta mujer? Entré en tu casa, no diste agua para mis pies; mas ésta ha regado mis pies con lágrimas, y los ha limpiado con los cabellos.
And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head.
Turning to the woman, he said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered into your house, and you gave me no water for my feet, but she has wet my feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head.
Tú no me has dado el ósculo de paz; pero ésta desde que llegó no ha cesado de besar mis pies.
No me diste beso, mas ésta, desde que entré, no ha cesado de besar mis pies.
Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet.
You gave me no kiss, but she, since the time I came in, has not ceased to kiss my feet.
Tú no has ungido con óleo o perfume mi cabeza; y ésta ha derramado sobre mis pies sus perfumes.

My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment.

Por todo lo cual te digo que le son perdonados muchos pecados, porque ha amado mucho. Que ama menos aquel a quien menos se le perdona.
Por lo cual te digo que sus muchos pecados son perdonados, porque amó mucho; mas al que se perdona poco, poco ama.
Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.
Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But one to whom little is forgiven, loves little.”
En seguida dijo a la mujer: Perdonados te son tus pecados.
Y á ella dijo: Los pecados te son perdonados.
And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven.
He said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”
Y luego los convidados empezaron a decir interiormente: ¿Quién es éste que también perdona pecados?
Y los que estaban juntamente sentados á la mesa, comenzaron á decir entre sí: ¿Quién es éste, que también perdona pecados?
And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also?
Those who sat at the table with him began to say to themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?”
Mas él dijo a la mujer: Tu fe te ha salvado, vete en paz.
Y dijo á la mujer: Tu fe te ha salvado, ve en paz.
And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.
He said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you. Go in peace.”
