1Este es el mensaje dado por el Señor a Israel, por medio del profeta Malaquías:
2«Te he amado con amor profundo», dice el Señor. Pero preguntas: «¿De qué manera nos demuestras que nos amas?». Y el Señor responde: «Bien, recuerden que Esaú era el hermano mayor de Jacob, sin embargo yo preferí a Jacob sobre Esaú. Además, desolé las montañas y los campos de Esaú de tal manera que ahí sólo pudieron vivir los chacales del desierto».

4Si los descendientes de Edom dicen: «Reedificaremos las ruinas», el Señor Todopoderoso les responde: «Inténtenlo, si quieren, pero yo las destruiré nuevamente, porque su tierra se llama debido a mí territorio de maldad y pueblo contra el cual el Señor está enojado para siempre.
5Y ustedes, israelitas, lo podrán ver con sus propios ojos, y dirán: “¡Verdaderamente el gran poder del Señor se extiende más allá de nuestras fronteras!”.
6»El hijo respeta a su padre y el esclavo a su amo. Yo, el Señor Todopoderoso, sin embargo les pregunto a ustedes, sacerdotes, que no le dan ninguna importancia a mi gran fama: “Si soy su Padre, ¿por qué no me respetan? Si soy su Amo, ¿por qué no me tienen temor?”. »Pero ustedes aún se atreven a preguntar: “¿Cuándo hemos tenido en nada tu gran fama?”.
7»¡Pues lo hacen cuando ofrecen sacrificios rituales inadecuados sobre mi altar! »“¿Sacrificios rituales inadecuados dices? ¿Cuándo hemos hecho tal cosa?”, vuelven a preguntar los sacerdotes». Y el Señor les responde: «Cada vez que dicen a la gente de Israel: “No se preocupen por traer una ofrenda valiosa a Dios.
8Pueden traer animales cojos para ofrecer en el altar del Señor. También pueden traer animales enfermos y ciegos”. ¿Pretenden que esto no es malo? Si ustedes le regalan esos animales a su gobernante, ¿creen que los recibirá con gusto? ¿Creen que pensará bien de ustedes?». Lo digo yo, el Señor Todopoderoso.
9«“¡Que Dios tenga misericordia de nosotros!”, suplican. “¡Que Dios se apiade de nosotros!”. Pero, ¿por qué habría de apiadarme de ustedes cuando traen ese tipo de presentes?, pregunta el Señor Todopoderoso.
10»¡Ah, si pudiera encontrar un sacerdote entre ustedes que cerrara las puertas y se negara a recibir ese tipo de sacrificios rituales! ¡No me traigan más esas ofrendas, pues estoy disgustado con ustedes, y me desagradan todas sus ofrendas! Lo digo yo, el Señor Todopoderoso.
11»Sepan que mi fama es muy grande y respetada en todas las naciones que hay desde el oriente hasta el occidente. Por todo el mundo ofrecen perfumes delicados y ofrendas puras en honor a mi gran fama. ¡De qué manera se ha extendido mi fama entre las otras naciones! Lo digo yo, el Señor Todopoderoso.
12»Pero ustedes dañan mi fama cuando dicen que mi altar no tiene importancia, y cuando animan a la gente a que traiga animales baratos y enfermos para ofrecer en sacrificio ritual sobre mi altar.
13Ustedes dicen: “Es muy molesto servir al Señor y hacer lo que él pide”. Luego desprecian las instrucciones que él les ha dado. ¡Imagínense! ¡Animales robados, cojos y enfermos como ofrendas a Dios! ¿Creen acaso que puedo aceptar esa clase de ofrendas?, les pregunto yo, el Señor.
14¡Maldito todo aquel que me promete un carnero sano de su rebaño, pero luego lo sustituye por uno enfermo! Porque yo soy el gran Rey, y no permitiré que mi gran fama sea tenida en menos en las naciones por culpa de ustedes. Lo digo yo, el Señor Todopoderoso.

1CARGA de la palabra de Jehová contra Israel, por mano de Malaquías.
2Yo os he amado, dice Jehová: y dijisteis: ¿En qué nos amaste? ¿No era Esaú hermano de Jacob, dice Jehová, y amé á Jacob,
3Y á Esaú aborrecí, y torné sus montes en asolamiento, y su posesión para los chacales del desierto?
4Cuando Edom dijere: Nos hemos empobrecido, mas tornemos á edificar lo arruinado; así ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos: Ellos edificarán, y yo destruiré: y les llamarán Provincia de impiedad, y, Pueblo contra quien Jehová se airó para siempre.
5Y vuestros ojos lo verán, y diréis: Sea Jehová engrandecido sobre la provincia de Israel.
6El hijo honra al padre, y el siervo á su señor: si pues soy yo padre, ¿qué es de mi honra? y si soy señor, ¿qué es de mi temor?, dice Jehová de los ejércitos á vosotros, oh sacerdotes, que menospreciáis mi nombre. Y decís: ¿En qué hemos menospreciado tu nombre?
7Que ofrecéis sobre mi altar pan inmundo. Y dijisteis: ¿En qué te hemos amancillado? En que decís: La mesa de Jehová es despreciable.
8Y cuando ofrecéis el animal ciego para sacrificar, ¿no es malo? asimismo cuando ofrecéis el cojo ó el enfermo, ¿no es malo? Preséntalo pues á tu príncipe: ¿acaso se agradará de ti, ó le serás acepto? dice Jehová de los ejércitos.
9Ahora pues, orad á la faz de Dios que tenga piedad de nosotros: esto de vuestra mano vino: ¿le seréis agradables? dice Jehová de los ejércitos.
10¿Quién también hay de vosotros que cierre las puertas ó alumbre mi altar de balde? Yo no recibo contentamiento en vosotros, dice Jehová de los ejércitos, ni de vuestra mano me será agradable el presente.
11Porque desde donde el sol nace hasta donde se pone, es grande mi nombre entre las gentes; y en todo lugar se ofrece á mi nombre perfume, y presente limpio: porque grande es mi nombre entre las gentes, dice Jehová de los ejércitos.
12Y vosotros lo habéis profanado cuando decís: Inmunda es la mesa de Jehová; y cuando hablan que su alimento es despreciable.
13Habéis además dicho: ¡Oh qué trabajo! y lo desechasteis, dice Jehová de los ejércitos; y trajisteis lo hurtado, ó cojo, ó enfermo, y presentasteis ofrenda. ¿Seráme acepto eso de vuestra mano? dice Jehová.
14Maldito el engañoso, que tiene macho en su rebaño, y promete, y sacrifica lo dañado á Jehová: porque yo soy Gran Rey, dice Jehová de los ejércitos, y mi nombre es formidable entre las gentes.

1The burden of the word of the LORD to Israel by Malachi.
2I have loved you, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, Wherein hast thou loved us? Was not Esau Jacob’s brother? saith the LORD: yet I loved Jacob,
3And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness.
4Whereas Edom saith, We are impoverished, but we will return and build the desolate places; thus saith the LORD of hosts, They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall call them, The border of wickedness, and, The people against whom the LORD hath indignation for ever.
5And your eyes shall see, and ye shall say, The LORD will be magnified from the border of Israel.
6A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master: if then I be a father, where is mine honour? and if I be a master, where is my fear? saith the LORD of hosts unto you, O priests, that despise my name. And ye say, Wherein have we despised thy name?
7Ye offer polluted bread upon mine altar; and ye say, Wherein have we polluted thee? In that ye say, The table of the LORD is contemptible.
8And if ye offer the blind for sacrifice, is it not evil? and if ye offer the lame and sick, is it not evil? offer it now unto thy governor; will he be pleased with thee, or accept thy person? saith the LORD of hosts.
9And now, I pray you, beseech God that he will be gracious unto us: this hath been by your means: will he regard your persons? saith the LORD of hosts.
10Who is there even among you that would shut the doors for nought? neither do ye kindle fire on mine altar for nought. I have no pleasure in you, saith the LORD of hosts, neither will I accept an offering at your hand.
11For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same my name shall be great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense shall be offered unto my name, and a pure offering: for my name shall be great among the heathen, saith the LORD of hosts.
12But ye have profaned it, in that ye say, The table of the LORD is polluted; and the fruit thereof, even his meat, is contemptible.
13Ye said also, Behold, what a weariness is it! and ye have snuffed at it, saith the LORD of hosts; and ye brought that which was torn, and the lame, and the sick; thus ye brought an offering: should I accept this of your hand? saith the LORD.
14But cursed be the deceiver, which hath in his flock a male, and voweth, and sacrificeth unto the Lord a corrupt thing: for I am a great King, saith the LORD of hosts, and my name is dreadful among the heathen.

2“I have loved you,” says the LORD. Yet you say, “How have you loved us?” “Wasn’t Esau Jacob’s brother?” says the LORD, “Yet I loved Jacob;
3but Esau I hated, and made his mountains a desolation, and gave his heritage to the jackals of the wilderness.”
4Whereas Edom says, “We are beaten down, but we will return and build the waste places,” the LORD of Armies says, “They shall build, but I will throw down; and men will call them ‘The Wicked Land,’ even the people against whom the LORD shows wrath forever.”
5Your eyes will see, and you will say, “The LORD is great—even beyond the border of Israel!”
6“A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If I am a father, then where is my honor? And if I am a master, where is the respect due me?” says the LORD of Armies to you priests who despise my name. “You say, ‘How have we despised your name?’
7You offer polluted bread on my altar. You say, ‘How have we polluted you?’ In that you say, ‘The LORD’s table is contemptible.’
8When you offer the blind for sacrifice, isn’t that evil? And when you offer the lame and sick, isn’t that evil? Present it now to your governor! Will he be pleased with you? Or will he accept your person?” says the LORD of Armies.
9“Now, please entreat the favor of God, that he may be gracious to us. With this, will he accept any of you?” says the LORD of Armies.
10“Oh that there were one among you who would shut the doors, that you might not kindle fire on my altar in vain! I have no pleasure in you,” says the LORD of Armies, “neither will I accept an offering at your hand.
11For from the rising of the sun even to its going down, my name is great among the nations, and in every place incense will be offered to my name, and a pure offering; for my name is great among the nations,” says the LORD of Armies.
12“But you profane it when you say, ‘The LORD’s table is polluted, and its fruit, even its food, is contemptible.’
13You say also, ‘Behold, what a weariness it is!’ And you have sniffed at it”, says the LORD of Armies; “and you have brought that which was taken by violence, the lame, and the sick; thus you bring the offering. Should I accept this at your hand?” says the LORD.
14“But the deceiver is cursed who has in his flock a male, and vows and sacrifices to the Lord a defective thing; for I am a great King,” says the LORD of Armies, “and my name is awesome among the nations.”
