1Or dunque, o sacerdoti, a voi s'indirizza questo comandamento:
2Se voi non ubbidite, e non vi mettete in cuore di dar gloria al mio Nome, ha detto il Signor degli eserciti, io manderò contro a voi la maledizione, e maledirò le vostre benedizioni; ed anche, già le ho maledette, perciocchè voi non vi mettete questo in cuore.
3Ecco, io sgriderò le vostre sementi, e verserò dello sterco sopra le vostre facce, lo sterco delle vostre feste; e sarete portati via nel luogo di quello.
4E voi conoscerete che io vi avea mandato questo comandamento, acciocchè il mio patto fosse con Levi, ha detto il Signor degli eserciti.
5Il mio patto fu già con lui, di vita, e di pace; e gli diedi quelle cose, per lo timore del quale egli mi temette; e perciocchè egli ebbe spavento del mio Nome.
6La Legge della verità fu nella sua bocca, e non si trovò alcuna iniquità nelle sue labbra; egli camminò meco in pace, e in dirittura, e convertì molti dall'iniquità.
7Conciossiachè le labbra del sacerdote abbiano a conservar la scienza, e si abbia da cercar la Legge dalla sua bocca; percicochè egli è l'Angelo del Signor degli eserciti.
8Ma voi vi siete stornati dalla via, voi ne avete fatti intoppar molti nella Legge, voi avete violato il patto di Levi, ha detto il Signor degli eserciti.
9Laonde altresì vi ho resi vili, ed abbietti appo tutto il popolo; siccome voi non osservate le mie vie, ed avete riguardo alla qualità delle persone spiegando la Legge.
10NON abbiam noi tutti uno stesso Padre? non ci ha uno stesso Dio creati? perchè usa dislealtà l'uno inverso l'altro, violando il patto de' nostri padri?
11Giuda ha usata dislealtà; ed abominazione è stata commessa in Israele ed in Gerusalemme; conciossiachè Giuda abbia profanata la santità del Signore che l'ha amato, ed abbia sposate delle figliuole di dii stranieri.
12Il Signore sterminerà da' tabernacoli di Giuda, l'uomo che avrà ciò fatto, colui che veglia, e colui che canta, e colui che presenta offerte al Signor degli eserciti.
13E in secondo luogo voi fate questo: Voi coprite di lagrime, di pianto, e di strida, l'altar del Signore, talchè egli non riguarda più alle offerte, e non riceva più dalle vostre mani cosa alcuna a grado.
14E pur dite: Perchè? Perciocchè il Signore è stato testimonio fra te, e la moglie della tua giovanezza, inverso la quale tu usi dislealtà; benchè ella sia tua consorte, e la moglie del tuo patto.
15Or non fece egli un sol uomo? e pure egli avea abbondanza di spirito; e che vuol dir quell'un solo? Egli cercava una progenie di Dio. Guardatevi adunque sopra lo spirito vostro, che niun di voi usi dislealtà inverso la moglie della sua giovanezza.
16Che se pur l'odia, rimandila, ha detto il Signore Iddio d'Israele; e copra la violenza col suo vestimento, ha detto il Signor degli eserciti. Guardatevi adunque sopra lo spirito vostro, che non usiate dislealtà.
17VOI avete travagliato il Signore con le vostre parole; e pur dite: In che l'abbiamo travagliato? In ciò che voi dite: Chiunque fa male piace al Signore, ed egli prende diletto in tali; ovvero: Ov'è l'Iddio del giudicio?

1AHORA pues, oh sacerdotes, á vosotros es este mandamiento.
2Si no oyereis, y si no acordareis dar gloria á mi nombre, ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos, enviaré maldición sobre vosotros, y maldeciré vuestras bendiciones; y aun las he maldecido, porque no lo ponéis en vuestro corazón.
3He aquí, yo os daño la sementera, y esparciré el estiércol sobre vuestros rostros, el estiércol de vuestras solemnidades, y con él seréis removidos.
4Y sabréis que yo os envié este mandamiento, para que fuese mi pacto con Leví, ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos.
5Mi pacto fué con él de vida y de paz, las cuales cosas yo le dí por el temor; porque me temió, y delante de mi nombre estuvo humillado.
6La ley de verdad estuvo en su boca, é iniquidad no fué hallada en sus labios: en paz y en justicia anduvo conmigo, y á muchos hizo apartar de la iniquidad.
7Porque los labios de los sacerdotes han de guardar la sabiduría, y de su boca buscarán la ley; porque mensajero es de Jehová de los ejércitos.
8Mas vosotros os habéis apartado del camino; habéis hecho tropezar á muchos en la ley; habéis corrompido el pacto de Leví, dice Jehová de los ejércitos.
9Por tanto, yo también os torné viles y bajos á todo el pueblo, según que vosotros no habéis guardado mis caminos, y en la ley tenéis acepción de personas.
10¿No tenemos todos un mismo padre? ¿No nos ha criado un mismo Dios? ¿Por qué menospreciaremos cada uno á su hermano, quebrantando el pacto de nuestros padres?
11Prevaricó Judá, y en Israel y en Jerusalem ha sido cometida abominación; porque Judá ha profanado la santidad de Jehová que amó, y casádose con hija de dios extraño.
12Jehová talará de las tiendas de Jacob al hombre que hiciere esto, al que vela, y al que responde, y al que ofrece presente á Jehová de los ejércitos.
13Y esta otra vez haréis cubrir el altar de Jehová de lágrimas, de llanto, y de clamor; así que no miraré más á presente, para aceptarlo con gusto de vuestra mano.
14Mas diréis: ¿Por qué? Porque Jehová ha atestiguado entre ti y la mujer de tu mocedad, contra la cual tú has sido desleal, siendo ella tu compañera, y la mujer de tu pacto.
15Pues qué ¿no hizo él uno solo aunque tenía la abundancia del espíritu? ¿Y por qué uno? Para que procurara una simiente de Dios. Guardaos pues en vuestros espíritus, y contra la mujer de vuestra mocedad no seáis desleales.
16Porque Jehová Dios de Israel ha dicho que él aborrece que sea repudiada; y cubra la iniquidad con su vestido, dijo Jehová de los ejércitos. Guardaos pues en vuestros espíritus, y no seáis desleales.
17Habéis hecho cansar á Jehová con vuestras palabras. Y diréis: ¿En qué le hemos cansado? Cuando decís: Cualquiera que mal hace agrada á Jehová, y en los tales toma contentamiento: de otra manera, ¿dónde está el Dios de juicio?

1And now, O ye priests, this commandment is for you.
2If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name, saith the LORD of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings: yea, I have cursed them already, because ye do not lay it to heart.
3Behold, I will corrupt your seed, and spread dung upon your faces, even the dung of your solemn feasts; and one shall take you away with it.
4And ye shall know that I have sent this commandment unto you, that my covenant might be with Levi, saith the LORD of hosts.
5My covenant was with him of life and peace; and I gave them to him for the fear wherewith he feared me, and was afraid before my name.
6The law of truth was in his mouth, and iniquity was not found in his lips: he walked with me in peace and equity, and did turn many away from iniquity.
7For the priest’s lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth: for he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts.
8But ye are departed out of the way; ye have caused many to stumble at the law; ye have corrupted the covenant of Levi, saith the LORD of hosts.
9Therefore have I also made you contemptible and base before all the people, according as ye have not kept my ways, but have been partial in the law.
10Have we not all one father? hath not one God created us? why do we deal treacherously every man against his brother, by profaning the covenant of our fathers?
11Judah hath dealt treacherously, and an abomination is committed in Israel and in Jerusalem; for Judah hath profaned the holiness of the LORD which he loved, and hath married the daughter of a strange god.
12The LORD will cut off the man that doeth this, the master and the scholar, out of the tabernacles of Jacob, and him that offereth an offering unto the LORD of hosts.
13And this have ye done again, covering the altar of the LORD with tears, with weeping, and with crying out, insomuch that he regardeth not the offering any more, or receiveth it with good will at your hand.
14Yet ye say, Wherefore? Because the LORD hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast dealt treacherously: yet is she thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant.
15And did not he make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit. And wherefore one? That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth.
16For the LORD, the God of Israel, saith that he hateth putting away: for one covereth violence with his garment, saith the LORD of hosts: therefore take heed to your spirit, that ye deal not treacherously.
17Ye have wearied the LORD with your words. Yet ye say, Wherein have we wearied him? When ye say, Every one that doeth evil is good in the sight of the LORD, and he delighteth in them; or, Where is the God of judgment?

1“Now, you priests, this commandment is for you.
2If you will not listen, and if you will not take it to heart, to give glory to my name,” says the LORD of Armies, “then I will send the curse on you, and I will curse your blessings. Indeed, I have cursed them already, because you do not take it to heart.
3Behold, I will rebuke your offspring, and will spread dung on your faces, even the dung of your feasts; and you will be taken away with it.
4You will know that I have sent this commandment to you, that my covenant may be with Levi,” says the LORD of Armies.
5“My covenant was with him of life and peace; and I gave them to him that he might be reverent toward me; and he was reverent toward me, and stood in awe of my name.
6The law of truth was in his mouth, and unrighteousness was not found in his lips. He walked with me in peace and uprightness, and turned many away from iniquity.

8But you have turned away from the path. You have caused many to stumble in the law. You have corrupted the covenant of Levi,” says the LORD of Armies.

10Don’t we all have one father? Hasn’t one God created us? Why do we deal treacherously every man against his brother, profaning the covenant of our fathers?
11Judah has dealt treacherously, and an abomination is committed in Israel and in Jerusalem; for Judah has profaned the holiness of the LORD which he loves, and has married the daughter of a foreign god.
12The LORD will cut off the man who does this, him who wakes and him who answers, out of the tents of Jacob and him who offers an offering to the LORD of Armies.
13“This again you do: you cover the LORD’s altar with tears, with weeping, and with sighing, because he doesn’t regard the offering any more, neither receives it with good will at your hand.
14Yet you say, ‘Why?’ Because the LORD has been witness between you and the wife of your youth, against whom you have dealt treacherously, though she is your companion and the wife of your covenant.
15Did he not make you one, although he had the residue of the Spirit? Why one? He sought godly offspring. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let no one deal treacherously against the wife of his youth.
16One who hates and divorces”, says the LORD, the God of Israel, “covers his garment with violence!” says the LORD of Armies. “Therefore pay attention to your spirit, that you don’t be unfaithful.
17You have wearied the LORD with your words. Yet you say, ‘How have we wearied him?’ In that you say, ‘Everyone who does evil is good in the LORD’s sight, and he delights in them;’ or ‘Where is the God of justice?’
