1Und es begab sich, da Jesus solch Gebot an seine zwölf Jünger vollendet hatte, ging er von da weiter, zu lehren und zu predigen in ihren Städten.
2Da aber Johannes im Gefängnis die Werke Christi hörte, sandte er seiner Jünger zwei
3und ließ ihm sagen: Bist du, der da kommen soll, oder sollen wir eines anderen warten?
4Jesus antwortete und sprach zu ihnen: Gehet hin und saget Johannes wieder, was ihr sehet und höret:
5die Blinden sehen und die Lahmen gehen, die Aussätzigen werden rein und die Tauben hören, die Toten stehen auf und den Armen wird das Evangelium gepredigt;
6und selig ist, der sich nicht an mir ärgert.
7Da die hingingen, fing Jesus an, zu reden zu dem Volk von Johannes: Was seid ihr hinausgegangen in die Wüste zu sehen? Wolltet ihr ein Rohr sehen, das der Wind hin und her bewegt?
8Oder was seid ihr hinausgegangen zu sehen? Wolltet ihr einen Menschen in weichen Kleidern sehen? Siehe, die da weiche Kleider tragen, sind in der Könige Häusern.
9Oder was seid ihr hinausgegangen zu sehen? Wolltet ihr einen Propheten sehen? Ja, ich sage euch, der auch mehr ist denn ein Prophet.
10Denn dieser ist's, von dem geschrieben steht: “Siehe, ich sende meinen Engel vor dir her, der deinen Weg vor dir bereiten soll.”
11Wahrlich ich sage euch: Unter allen, die von Weibern geboren sind, ist nicht aufgekommen, der größer sei denn Johannes der Täufer; der aber der Kleinste ist im Himmelreich, ist größer denn er.
12Aber von den Tagen Johannes des Täufers bis hierher leidet das Himmelreich Gewalt, und die Gewalt tun, die reißen es an sich.
13Denn alle Propheten und das Gesetz haben geweissagt bis auf Johannes.
14Und (so ihr's wollt annehmen) er ist Elia, der da soll zukünftig sein.
15Wer Ohren hat, zu hören, der höre!
16Wem soll ich aber dies Geschlecht vergleichen? Es ist den Kindlein gleich, die an dem Markt sitzen und rufen gegen ihre Gesellen
17und sprechen: Wir haben euch gepfiffen, und ihr wolltet nicht tanzen; wir haben euch geklagt, und ihr wolltet nicht weinen.
18Johannes ist gekommen, aß nicht und trank nicht; so sagen sie: Er hat den Teufel.
19Des Menschen Sohn ist gekommen, ißt und trinkt; so sagen sie: Siehe, wie ist der Mensch ein Fresser und ein Weinsäufer, der Zöllner und der Sünder Geselle! Und die Weisheit muß sich rechtfertigen lassen von ihren Kindern.
20Da fing er an, die Städte zu schelten, in welchen am meisten seiner Taten geschehen waren, und hatten sich doch nicht gebessert:
21Wehe dir Chorazin! Weh dir, Bethsaida! Wären solche Taten zu Tyrus und Sidon geschehen, wie bei euch geschehen sind, sie hätten vorzeiten im Sack und in der Asche Buße getan.
22Doch ich sage euch: Es wird Tyrus und Sidon erträglicher gehen am Jüngsten Gericht als euch.
23Und du, Kapernaum, die du bist erhoben bis an den Himmel, du wirst bis in die Hölle hinuntergestoßen werden. Denn so zu Sodom die Taten geschehen wären, die bei euch geschehen sind, sie stände noch heutigestages.
24Doch ich sage euch, es wird dem Sodomer Lande erträglicher gehen am Jüngsten Gericht als dir.
25Zu der Zeit antwortete Jesus und sprach: Ich preise dich, Vater und HERR Himmels und der Erde, daß du solches den Weisen und Klugen verborgen hast und hast es den Unmündigen offenbart.
26Ja, Vater; denn es ist also wohlgefällig gewesen vor dir.
27Alle Dinge sind mir übergeben von meinem Vater. Und niemand kennet den Sohn denn nur der Vater; und niemand kennet den Vater denn nur der Sohn und wem es der Sohn will offenbaren.
28Kommet her zu mir alle, die ihr mühselig und beladen seid; ich will euch erquicken.
29Nehmet auf euch mein Joch und lernet von mir; denn ich bin sanftmütig und von Herzen demütig; so werdet ihr Ruhe finden für eure Seelen.
30Denn mein Joch ist sanft, und meine Last ist leicht.

1Y FUÉ, que acabando Jesús de dar mandamientos á sus doce discípulos, se fué de allí á enseñar y á predicar en las ciudades de ellos.
2Y oyendo Juan en la prisión los hechos de Cristo, le envió dos de sus discípulos,
3Diciendo: ¿Eres tú aquél que había de venir, ó esperaremos á otro?
4Y respondiendo Jesús, les dijo: Id, y haced saber á Juan las cosas que oís y veis:
5Los ciegos ven, y los cojos andan; los leprosos son limpiados, y los sordos oyen; los muertos son resucitados, y á los pobres es anunciado el evangelio.
6Y bienaventurado es el que no fuere escandalizado en mí.
7E idos ellos, comenzó Jesús á decir de Juan á las gentes: ¿Qué salisteis á ver al desierto? ¿una caña que es meneada del viento?
8Mas ¿qué salisteis á ver? ¿un hombre cubierto de delicados vestidos? He aquí, los que traen vestidos delicados, en las casas de los reyes están.
9Mas ¿qué salisteis á ver? ¿un profeta? También os digo, y más que profeta.
10Porque éste es de quien está escrito: He aquí, yo envío mi mensajero delante de tu faz, que aparejará tu camino delante de ti.
11De cierto os digo, que no se levantó entre los que nacen de mujeres otro mayor que Juan el Bautista; mas el que es muy más pequeño en el reino de los cielos, mayor es que él.
12Desde los días de Juan el Bautista hasta ahora, al reino de los cielos se hace fuerza, y los valientes lo arrebatan.
13Porque todos los profetas y la ley hasta Juan profetizaron.
14Y si queréis recibir, él es aquel Elías que había de venir.
15El que tiene oídos para oir, oiga.
16Mas ¿á quién compararé esta generación? Es semejante á los muchachos que se sientan en las plazas, y dan voces á sus compañeros,
17Y dicen: Os tañimos flauta, y no bailasteis; os endechamos, y no lamentasteis.
18Porque vino Juan, que ni comía ni bebía, y dicen: Demonio tiene.
19Vino el Hijo del hombre, que come y bebe, y dicen: He aquí un hombre comilón, y bebedor de vino, amigo de publicanos y de pecadores. Mas la sabiduría es justificada por sus hijos.
20Entonces comenzó á reconvenir á las ciudades en las cuales habían sido hechas muy muchas de sus maravillas, porque no se habían arrepentido, diciendo:
21¡Ay de ti, Corazín! ¡Ay de ti, Bethsaida! porque si en Tiro y en Sidón fueran hechas las maravillas que han sido hechas en vosotras, en otro tiempo se hubieran arrepentido en saco y en ceniza.
22Por tanto os digo, que á Tiro y á Sidón será más tolerable el castigo en el día del juicio, que á vosotras.
23Y tú, Capernaum, que eres levantada hasta el cielo, hasta los infiernos serás abajada; porque si en los de Sodoma fueran hechas las maravillas que han sido hechas en ti, hubieran quedado hasta el día de hoy.
24Por tanto os digo, que á la tierra de los de Sodoma será más tolerable el castigo en el día del juicio, que á ti.
25En aquel tiempo, respondiendo Jesús, dijo: Te alabo, Padre, Señor del cielo y de la tierra, que hayas escondido estas cosas de los sabios y de los entendidos, y las hayas revelado á los niños.
26Así, Padre, pues que así agradó en tus ojos.
27Todas las cosas me son entregadas de mi Padre: y nadie conoció al Hijo, sino el Padre; ni al Padre conoció alguno, sino el Hijo, y aquel á quien el Hijo lo quisiere revelar.
28Venid á mí todos los que estáis trabajados y cargados, que yo os haré descansar.
29Llevad mi yugo sobre vosotros, y aprended de mí, que soy manso y humilde de corazón; y hallaréis descanso para vuestras almas.
30Porque mi yugo es fácil, y ligera mi carga.

1And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities.
2Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples,
3And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?
4Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see:
5The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.
6And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.
7And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind?
8But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses.
9But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet.
10For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
11Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
12And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.
13For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.
14And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.
15He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
16But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the markets, and calling unto their fellows,
17And saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented.
18For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil.
19The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.
20Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not:
21Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
22But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you.
23And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.
24But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.
25At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.
26Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight.
27All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.
28Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

1When Jesus had finished directing his twelve disciples, he departed from there to teach and preach in their cities.
2Now when John heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples
3and said to him, “Are you he who comes, or should we look for another?”
4Jesus answered them, “Go and tell John the things which you hear and see:
5the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them.
6Blessed is he who finds no occasion for stumbling in me.”
7As these went their way, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John, “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?
8But what did you go out to see? A man in soft clothing? Behold, those who wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses.
9But why did you go out? To see a prophet? Yes, I tell you, and much more than a prophet.
10For this is he, of whom it is written, ‘Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.’
11Most certainly I tell you, among those who are born of women there has not arisen anyone greater than John the Baptizer; yet he who is least in the Kingdom of Heaven is greater than he.
12From the days of John the Baptizer until now, the Kingdom of Heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force.
13For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.
14If you are willing to receive it, this is Elijah, who is to come.
15He who has ears to hear, let him hear.
16“But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces, who call to their companions
17and say, ‘We played the flute for you, and you didn’t dance. We mourned for you, and you didn’t lament.’
18For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon.’
19The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Behold, a gluttonous man and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ But wisdom is justified by her children.”
20Then he began to denounce the cities in which most of his mighty works had been done, because they didn’t repent.
21“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon which were done in you, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
22But I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you.
23You, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, you will go down to Hades. For if the mighty works had been done in Sodom which were done in you, it would have remained until today.
24But I tell you that it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom on the day of judgment, than for you.”
25At that time, Jesus answered, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you hid these things from the wise and understanding, and revealed them to infants.
26Yes, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in your sight.
27All things have been delivered to me by my Father. No one knows the Son, except the Father; neither does anyone know the Father, except the Son and he to whom the Son desires to reveal him.
28“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.
29Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls.
30For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
