1Cuando terminó de dar estas instrucciones a sus doce discípulos, Jesús se fue a enseñar y a predicar por las ciudades.
2Juan el Bautista, que ya estaba preso, se enteró de los milagros que el Mesías estaba realizando y envió a dos de sus discípulos
3a preguntarle a Jesús: ―¿Eres tú de veras el que estábamos esperando, o debemos esperar a otro?
4Jesús respondió a los mensajeros: ―Vayan donde está Juan y cuéntenle todo lo que han oído y lo que me han visto realizar.
5Cuéntenle que los ciegos ven, los paralíticos andan, los leprosos se curan, los sordos oyen, los muertos resucitan, y que anuncio las buenas nuevas a los pobres.
6Díganle, además, que benditos son los que no dudan de mí.
7Cuando los discípulos de Juan se marcharon, Jesús se puso a hablar de Juan a la multitud: «Cuando salieron al desierto a ver a Juan, ¿qué esperaban ver en él? ¿Una caña que el viento sacude?
8¿o acaso a un hombre vestido de príncipe? ¡Estos se encuentran en los palacios reales!
9Entonces, ¿qué salieron a ver? ¿a un profeta? Les aseguro que sí, y él es más que profeta:
10Juan es aquel de quien las Escrituras dicen: “Un mensajero mío irá delante de ti para prepararte el camino”.
11Les aseguro que de todos los hombres que han nacido en este mundo, ninguno ha sido mayor que Juan el Bautista. Y sin embargo, el más insignificante en el reino de los cielos es más grande que él.
12Desde que Juan el Bautista comenzó a predicar hasta ahora, se ha combatido mucho contra el reino de los cielos, y los que son violentos luchan para acabar con él.
13La ley y todos los profetas profetizaron hasta que llegó Juan.
14Y si quieren creerlo, él es Elías, del que se anunció que vendría.
15El que quiera escuchar, ¡escuche ahora!
16»¿Qué diré de la gente de hoy día? Es semejante a los muchachos que, sentados en las plazas, gritan a sus compañeros de juego:
17“Si tocamos la flauta ustedes no bailan, y si cantamos canciones tristes ustedes no lloran”.
18»Vino Juan el Bautista, que no toma vino ni come mucho, y ustedes dicen que está endemoniado.
19Y luego vengo yo, el Hijo del hombre, que como y bebo, y me acusan de glotón, bebedor de vino y amigo de cobradores de impuestos y de gente de la peor calaña. Pero uno demuestra la sabiduría con sus acciones».
20Entonces comenzó Jesús a reprender a las ciudades en que había realizado la mayoría de sus milagros, porque no se habían arrepentido.
21«¡Pobre de ti, Corazín! ¡Pobre de ti, Betsaida! Si los milagros que se realizaron en tus calles se hubieran realizado en Tiro y Sidón, hace mucho tiempo que estas ciudades se habrían vestido de ropas ásperas y se habrían echado ceniza en la cabeza como muestra de su arrepentimiento.
22»¡Ciertamente a Tiro y Sidón les irá mejor que a ustedes en el día del juicio!
23¡Y tú, Capernaúm, ¿serás elevada hasta el cielo? ¡No! Te irás a lo profundo del infierno. Porque si los milagros que se realizaron en ti se hubieran realizado en Sodoma, esta ciudad existiría todavía.
24¡A Sodoma le irá mejor que a ti en el día del juicio!».
25En esa ocasión, Jesús dijo: «Te alabo Padre, Señor del cielo y de la tierra, porque escondiste estas cosas de los sabios e inteligentes, y se las diste a conocer a los niños.
26Sí, Padre, porque así lo quisiste.
27»El Padre me ha confiado todas las cosas. Sólo el Padre conoce al Hijo y sólo el Hijo conoce al Padre, y también aquellos a quienes el Hijo se lo revela.
28Vengan a mí los que estén cansados y afligidos y yo los haré descansar.
29Lleven mi yugo y aprendan de mí, que soy manso y de corazón humilde. Así hallarán descanso para el alma,
30porque mi yugo es fácil de llevar y mi carga es ligera».

1Y FUÉ, que acabando Jesús de dar mandamientos á sus doce discípulos, se fué de allí á enseñar y á predicar en las ciudades de ellos.
2Y oyendo Juan en la prisión los hechos de Cristo, le envió dos de sus discípulos,
3Diciendo: ¿Eres tú aquél que había de venir, ó esperaremos á otro?
4Y respondiendo Jesús, les dijo: Id, y haced saber á Juan las cosas que oís y veis:
5Los ciegos ven, y los cojos andan; los leprosos son limpiados, y los sordos oyen; los muertos son resucitados, y á los pobres es anunciado el evangelio.
6Y bienaventurado es el que no fuere escandalizado en mí.
7E idos ellos, comenzó Jesús á decir de Juan á las gentes: ¿Qué salisteis á ver al desierto? ¿una caña que es meneada del viento?
8Mas ¿qué salisteis á ver? ¿un hombre cubierto de delicados vestidos? He aquí, los que traen vestidos delicados, en las casas de los reyes están.
9Mas ¿qué salisteis á ver? ¿un profeta? También os digo, y más que profeta.
10Porque éste es de quien está escrito: He aquí, yo envío mi mensajero delante de tu faz, que aparejará tu camino delante de ti.
11De cierto os digo, que no se levantó entre los que nacen de mujeres otro mayor que Juan el Bautista; mas el que es muy más pequeño en el reino de los cielos, mayor es que él.
12Desde los días de Juan el Bautista hasta ahora, al reino de los cielos se hace fuerza, y los valientes lo arrebatan.
13Porque todos los profetas y la ley hasta Juan profetizaron.
14Y si queréis recibir, él es aquel Elías que había de venir.
15El que tiene oídos para oir, oiga.
16Mas ¿á quién compararé esta generación? Es semejante á los muchachos que se sientan en las plazas, y dan voces á sus compañeros,
17Y dicen: Os tañimos flauta, y no bailasteis; os endechamos, y no lamentasteis.
18Porque vino Juan, que ni comía ni bebía, y dicen: Demonio tiene.
19Vino el Hijo del hombre, que come y bebe, y dicen: He aquí un hombre comilón, y bebedor de vino, amigo de publicanos y de pecadores. Mas la sabiduría es justificada por sus hijos.
20Entonces comenzó á reconvenir á las ciudades en las cuales habían sido hechas muy muchas de sus maravillas, porque no se habían arrepentido, diciendo:
21¡Ay de ti, Corazín! ¡Ay de ti, Bethsaida! porque si en Tiro y en Sidón fueran hechas las maravillas que han sido hechas en vosotras, en otro tiempo se hubieran arrepentido en saco y en ceniza.
22Por tanto os digo, que á Tiro y á Sidón será más tolerable el castigo en el día del juicio, que á vosotras.
23Y tú, Capernaum, que eres levantada hasta el cielo, hasta los infiernos serás abajada; porque si en los de Sodoma fueran hechas las maravillas que han sido hechas en ti, hubieran quedado hasta el día de hoy.
24Por tanto os digo, que á la tierra de los de Sodoma será más tolerable el castigo en el día del juicio, que á ti.
25En aquel tiempo, respondiendo Jesús, dijo: Te alabo, Padre, Señor del cielo y de la tierra, que hayas escondido estas cosas de los sabios y de los entendidos, y las hayas revelado á los niños.
26Así, Padre, pues que así agradó en tus ojos.
27Todas las cosas me son entregadas de mi Padre: y nadie conoció al Hijo, sino el Padre; ni al Padre conoció alguno, sino el Hijo, y aquel á quien el Hijo lo quisiere revelar.
28Venid á mí todos los que estáis trabajados y cargados, que yo os haré descansar.
29Llevad mi yugo sobre vosotros, y aprended de mí, que soy manso y humilde de corazón; y hallaréis descanso para vuestras almas.
30Porque mi yugo es fácil, y ligera mi carga.

1And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities.
2Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples,
3And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?
4Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see:
5The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.
6And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.
7And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind?
8But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses.
9But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet.
10For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
11Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
12And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.
13For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.
14And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.
15He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
16But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the markets, and calling unto their fellows,
17And saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented.
18For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil.
19The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.
20Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not:
21Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
22But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you.
23And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.
24But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.
25At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.
26Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight.
27All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.
28Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

1When Jesus had finished directing his twelve disciples, he departed from there to teach and preach in their cities.
2Now when John heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples
3and said to him, “Are you he who comes, or should we look for another?”
4Jesus answered them, “Go and tell John the things which you hear and see:
5the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them.
6Blessed is he who finds no occasion for stumbling in me.”
7As these went their way, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John, “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?
8But what did you go out to see? A man in soft clothing? Behold, those who wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses.
9But why did you go out? To see a prophet? Yes, I tell you, and much more than a prophet.
10For this is he, of whom it is written, ‘Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.’
11Most certainly I tell you, among those who are born of women there has not arisen anyone greater than John the Baptizer; yet he who is least in the Kingdom of Heaven is greater than he.
12From the days of John the Baptizer until now, the Kingdom of Heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force.
13For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.
14If you are willing to receive it, this is Elijah, who is to come.
15He who has ears to hear, let him hear.
16“But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces, who call to their companions
17and say, ‘We played the flute for you, and you didn’t dance. We mourned for you, and you didn’t lament.’
18For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon.’
19The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Behold, a gluttonous man and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ But wisdom is justified by her children.”
20Then he began to denounce the cities in which most of his mighty works had been done, because they didn’t repent.

25At that time, Jesus answered, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you hid these things from the wise and understanding, and revealed them to infants.
26Yes, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in your sight.
27All things have been delivered to me by my Father. No one knows the Son, except the Father; neither does anyone know the Father, except the Son and he to whom the Son desires to reveal him.
28“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.
29Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls.
30For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
