Como hubiese Jesús acabado de dar estas instrucciones a sus doce discípulos, partió de allí para enseñar y predicar en las ciudades de ellos.
Y FUÉ, que acabando Jesús de dar mandamientos á sus doce discípulos, se fué de allí á enseñar y á predicar en las ciudades de ellos.
And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities.

Pero Juan, habiendo en la prisión oído las obras maravillosas de Cristo envió dos de sus discípulos a preguntarle:

¿Eres tú el Mesías que ha de venir, o debemos esperar a otro?

A lo que Jesús les respondió: Id y contad a Juan lo que habéis oído y visto:
Y respondiendo Jesús, les dijo: Id, y haced saber á Juan las cosas que oís y veis:
Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see:

Los ciegos ven, los cojos andan, los leprosos quedan limpios, los sordos oyen, los muertos resucitan, se anuncia el mensaje de salvación a los pobres;
Los ciegos ven, y los cojos andan; los leprosos son limpiados, y los sordos oyen; los muertos son resucitados, y á los pobres es anunciado el evangelio.
The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

y bienaventurado aquel que no tomare de mí ocasión de escándalo.

Luego que se fueron éstos, empezó Jesús a hablar de Juan, y dijo al pueblo: ¿Qué es lo que salisteis a ver en el desierto? ¿Alguna caña que a todo viento se mueve?
E idos ellos, comenzó Jesús á decir de Juan á las gentes: ¿Qué salisteis á ver al desierto? ¿una caña que es meneada del viento?
And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind?
As these went their way, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John, “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?
Decidme si no, ¿qué salisteis a ver? ¿A un hombre vestido con lujo y afeminación? Ya sabéis que los que visten así, en palacios de reyes están.
Mas ¿qué salisteis á ver? ¿un hombre cubierto de delicados vestidos? He aquí, los que traen vestidos delicados, en las casas de los reyes están.
But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses.
But what did you go out to see? A man in soft clothing? Behold, those who wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses.
En fin, ¿qué salisteis a ver? ¿A algún profeta? Eso sí, yo os lo aseguro, y aun mucho más que profeta.
Mas ¿qué salisteis á ver? ¿un profeta? También os digo, y más que profeta.
But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet.
But why did you go out? To see a prophet? Yes, I tell you, and much more than a prophet.
Pues él es de quien está escrito: Mira que yo envío mi ángel ante tu presencia, el cual irá delante de ti disponiéndote el camino.
Porque éste es de quien está escrito: He aquí, yo envío mi mensajero delante de tu faz, que aparejará tu camino delante de ti.
For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
For this is he, of whom it is written, ‘Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.’
En verdad os digo que no ha salido a la luz entre los hijos de mujeres alguno mayor que Juan Bautista; si bien el que es menor en el reino de los cielos, es superior a él.
De cierto os digo, que no se levantó entre los que nacen de mujeres otro mayor que Juan el Bautista; mas el que es muy más pequeño en el reino de los cielos, mayor es que él.
Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
Most certainly I tell you, among those who are born of women there has not arisen anyone greater than John the Baptizer; yet he who is least in the Kingdom of Heaven is greater than he.
Y desde el tiempo de Juan Bautista, hasta el presente, el reino de los cielos se alcanza a viva fuerza, y los que se la hacen a sí mismos, son los que lo arrebatan.
Desde los días de Juan el Bautista hasta ahora, al reino de los cielos se hace fuerza, y los valientes lo arrebatan.
And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.

Porque todos los profetas y la ley hasta Juan pronunciaron lo porvenir.

Y si queréis entenderlo, él mismo es aquel Elías que debía venir.

El que tiene oídos para entender, entiéndalo.
El que tiene oídos para oir, oiga.
He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

Mas ¿a quién compararé yo esta raza de hombres? Es semejante a los muchachos sentados en la plaza, que, dando voces a otros de sus compañeros,

But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the markets, and calling unto their fellows,
“But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces, who call to their companions
les dicen: Os hemos entonado cantares alegres, y no habéis bailado; cantares lúgubres, y no habéis llorado.
Y dicen: Os tañimos flauta, y no bailasteis; os endechamos, y no lamentasteis.
And saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented.
and say, ‘We played the flute for you, and you didn’t dance. We mourned for you, and you didn’t lament.’
Así es que vino Juan, que casi no come ni bebe, y dicen: Está poseído del demonio.
Porque vino Juan, que ni comía ni bebía, y dicen: Demonio tiene.
For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil.

Ha venido el Hijo del hombre, que come y bebe, y dicen: He aquí un glotón y un vinoso, amigo de publicanos y gentes de mala vida. Pero queda la divina sabiduría justificada para con sus hijos.
Vino el Hijo del hombre, que come y bebe, y dicen: He aquí un hombre comilón, y bebedor de vino, amigo de publicanos y de pecadores. Mas la sabiduría es justificada por sus hijos.
The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.

Entonces comenzó a reconvenir a las ciudades donde se habían hecho muchísimos de sus milagros, porque no habían hecho penitencia.

Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not:

¡Ay de ti, Corozaín! ¡Ay de ti, Betsaida! Que si en Tiro y en Sidón se hubiesen hecho los milagros que se han obrado en vosotras, hace tiempo que habrían hecho penitencia, cubiertas de ceniza y de cilicio.
¡Ay de ti, Corazín! ¡Ay de ti, Bethsaida! porque si en Tiro y en Sidón fueran hechas las maravillas que han sido hechas en vosotras, en otro tiempo se hubieran arrepentido en saco y en ceniza.
Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon which were done in you, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
Por tanto, os digo que Tiro y Sidón serán tratadas menos rigurosamente el día del juicio que vosotras.
Por tanto os digo, que á Tiro y á Sidón será más tolerable el castigo en el día del juicio, que á vosotras.
But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you.
But I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you.
Y tú, Cafarnaúm, ¿piensas, acaso, levantarte hasta el cielo? Serás, sí, abatida hasta el infierno; porque si en Sodoma se hubiesen hecho los milagros que en ti, Sodoma quizá subsistiera aún hoy día.
Y tú, Capernaum, que eres levantada hasta el cielo, hasta los infiernos serás abajada; porque si en los de Sodoma fueran hechas las maravillas que han sido hechas en ti, hubieran quedado hasta el día de hoy.
And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.
You, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, you will go down to Hades. For if the mighty works had been done in Sodom which were done in you, it would have remained until today.
Por eso te digo que el país de Sodoma el día del juicio será castigado con menos rigor que tú.
Por tanto os digo, que á la tierra de los de Sodoma será más tolerable el castigo en el día del juicio, que á ti.
But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.
But I tell you that it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom on the day of judgment, than for you.”
Por aquel tiempo exclamó Jesús , diciendo: Yo te glorifico, Padre mío, Señor del cielo y de la tierra, porque has tenido encubiertas estas cosas, a los sabios y prudentes del siglo, y las has revelado a los pequeñuelos.
En aquel tiempo, respondiendo Jesús, dijo: Te alabo, Padre, Señor del cielo y de la tierra, que hayas escondido estas cosas de los sabios y de los entendidos, y las hayas revelado á los niños.
At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.
At that time, Jesus answered, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you hid these things from the wise and understanding, and revealed them to infants.
Sí, Padre mío, alabado seas, por haber sido de tu agrado que fuese así.
Así, Padre, pues que así agradó en tus ojos.
Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight.
Yes, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in your sight.
Todas las cosas las ha puesto mi Padre en mis manos. Pero nadie conoce al Hijo sino el Padre; ni conoce ninguno al Padre sino el Hijo, y aquel a quien el Hijo haya querido revelarlo.
Todas las cosas me son entregadas de mi Padre: y nadie conoció al Hijo, sino el Padre; ni al Padre conoció alguno, sino el Hijo, y aquel á quien el Hijo lo quisiere revelar.
All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.
All things have been delivered to me by my Father. No one knows the Son, except the Father; neither does anyone know the Father, except the Son and he to whom the Son desires to reveal him.
Venid a mí todos los que andáis agobiados con trabajos y cargas, que yo os aliviaré.
Venid á mí todos los que estáis trabajados y cargados, que yo os haré descansar.
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.
Tomad mi yugo sobre vosotros, y aprended de mí, que soy manso y humilde de corazón; y hallaréis el reposo para vuestras almas.
Llevad mi yugo sobre vosotros, y aprended de mí, que soy manso y humilde de corazón; y hallaréis descanso para vuestras almas.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls.
Porque suave es mi yugo y ligero el peso mío.
