1Zu der Zeit kam das Gerücht von Jesu vor den Vierfürsten Herodes.
2Und er sprach zu seinen Knechten: Dieser ist Johannes der Täufer; er ist von den Toten auferstanden, darum tut er solche Taten.
3Denn Herodes hatte Johannes gegriffen und in das Gefängnis gelegt wegen der Herodias, seines Bruders Philippus Weib.
4Denn Johannes hatte zu ihm gesagt: Es ist nicht recht, daß du sie habest.
5Und er hätte ihn gern getötet, fürchtete sich aber vor dem Volk; denn sie hielten ihn für einen Propheten.
6Da aber Herodes seinen Jahrestag beging, da tanzte die Tochter der Herodias vor ihnen. Das gefiel Herodes wohl.
7Darum verhieß er ihr mit einem Eide, er wollte ihr geben, was sie fordern würde.
8Und wie sie zuvor von ihrer Mutter angestiftet war, sprach sie: Gib mir her auf einer Schüssel das Haupt Johannes des Täufers!
9Und der König ward traurig; doch um des Eides willen und derer, die mit ihm zu Tische saßen, befahl er's ihr zu geben.
10Und schickte hin und enthauptete Johannes im Gefängnis.
11Und sein Haupt ward hergetragen in einer Schüssel und dem Mägdlein gegeben; und sie brachte es ihrer Mutter.
12Da kamen seine Jünger und nahmen seinen Leib und begruben ihn; und kamen und verkündigten das Jesus.
13Da das Jesus hörte, wich er von dannen auf einem Schiff in eine Wüste allein. Und da das Volk das hörte, folgte es ihm nach zu Fuß aus den Städten.
14Und Jesus ging hervor und sah das große Volk; und es jammerte ihn derselben, und er heilte ihre Kranken.
15Am Abend aber traten seine Jünger zu ihm und sprachen: Dies ist eine Wüste, und die Nacht fällt herein; Laß das Volk von dir, daß sie hin in die Märkte gehen und sich Speise kaufen.
16Aber Jesus sprach zu ihnen: Es ist nicht not, daß sie hingehen; gebt ihr ihnen zu essen.
17Sie sprachen: Wir haben hier nichts denn fünf Brote und zwei Fische.
18Und er sprach: Bringet sie mir her.
19Und er hieß das Volk sich lagern auf das Gras und nahm die fünf Brote und die zwei Fische, sah auf zum Himmel und dankte und brach's und gab die Brote den Jüngern, und die Jünger gaben sie dem Volk.
20Und sie aßen alle und wurden satt und hoben auf, was übrigblieb von Brocken, zwölf Körbe voll.
21Die aber gegessen hatten waren, waren bei fünftausend Mann, ohne Weiber und Kinder.
22Und alsbald trieb Jesus seine Jünger, daß sie in das Schiff traten und vor ihm herüberfuhren, bis er das Volk von sich ließe.
23Und da er das Volk von sich gelassen hatte, stieg er auf einen Berg allein, daß er betete. Und am Abend war er allein daselbst.
24Und das Schiff war schon mitten auf dem Meer und litt Not von den Wellen; denn der Wind war ihnen zuwider.
25Aber in der vierten Nachtwache kam Jesus zu ihnen und ging auf dem Meer.
26Und da ihn die Jünger sahen auf dem Meer gehen, erschraken sie und sprachen: Es ist ein Gespenst! und schrieen vor Furcht.
27Aber alsbald redete Jesus mit ihnen und sprach: Seid getrost, Ich bin's; fürchtet euch nicht!
28Petrus aber antwortete ihm und sprach: HERR, bist du es, so heiß mich zu dir kommen auf dem Wasser.
29Und er sprach: Komm her! Und Petrus trat aus dem Schiff und ging auf dem Wasser, daß er zu Jesu käme.
30Er sah aber einen starken Wind; da erschrak er und hob an zu sinken, schrie und sprach: HERR, hilf mir!
31Jesus reckte alsbald die Hand aus und ergriff ihn und sprach zu ihm: O du Kleingläubiger, warum zweifeltest du?
32Und sie traten in das Schiff, und der Wind legte sich.
33Die aber im Schiff waren, kamen und fielen vor ihm nieder und sprachen: Du bist wahrlich Gottes Sohn!
34Und sie schifften hinüber und kamen in das Land Genezareth.
35Und da die Leute am selbigen Ort sein gewahr wurden, schickten sie aus in das ganze Land umher und brachten allerlei Ungesunde zu ihm
36und baten ihn, daß sie nur seines Kleides Saum anrührten. Und alle, die ihn anrührten, wurden gesund.

1EN aquel tiempo Herodes el tetrarca oyó la fama de Jesús,
2Y dijo á sus criados: Este es Juan el Bautista: él ha resucitado de los muertos, y por eso virtudes obran en él.
3Porque Herodes había prendido á Juan, y le había aprisionado y puesto en la cárcel, por causa de Herodías, mujer de Felipe su hermano;
4Porque Juan le decía: No te es lícito tenerla.
5Y quería matarle, mas temía al pueblo; porque le tenían como á profeta.
6Mas celebrándose el día del nacimiento de Herodes, la hija de Herodías danzó en medio, y agradó á Herodes.
7Y prometió él con juramento de darle todo lo que pidiese.
8Y ella, instruída primero de su madre, dijo: Dame aquí en un plato la cabeza de Juan el Bautista.
9Entonces el rey se entristeció; mas por el juramento, y por los que estaban juntamente á la mesa, mandó que se le diese.
10Y enviando, degolló á Juan en la cárcel.
11Y fué traída su cabeza en un plato, y dada á la muchacha; y ella la presentó á su madre.
12Entonces llegaron sus discípulos, y tomaron el cuerpo, y lo enterraron; y fueron, y dieron las nuevas á Jesús.
13Y oyéndolo Jesús, se apartó de allí en un barco á un lugar descierto, apartado: y cuando las gentes lo oyeron, le siguieron á pie de las ciudades.
14Y saliendo Jesús, vió un gran gentío, y tuvo compasión de ellos, y sanó á los que de ellos había enfermos.
15Y cuando fué la tarde del día, se llegaron á él sus discípulos, diciendo: El lugar es desierto, y el tiempo es ya pasado: despide las gentes, para que se vayan por las aldeas, y compren para sí de comer.
16Y Jesús les dijo: No tienen necesidad de irse: dadles vosotros de comer.
17Y ellos dijeron: No tenemos aquí sino cinco panes y dos peces.
18Y él les dijo: Traédmelos acá.
19Y mandando á las gentes recostarse sobre la hierba, tomando los cinco panes y los dos peces, alzando los ojos al cielo, bendijo, y partió y dió los panes á los discípulos, y los discípulos á las gentes.
20Y comieron todos, y se hartaron; y alzaron lo que sobró de los pedazos, doce cestas llenas.
21Y los que comieron fueron como cinco mil hombres, sin las mujeres y los niños.
22Y luego Jesús hizo á sus discípulos entrar en el barco, é ir delante de él á la otra parte del lago, entre tanto que él despedía á las gentes.
23Y despedidas las gentes, subió al monte, apartado, á orar: y como fué la tarde del día, estaba allí solo.
24Y ya el barco estaba en medio de la mar, atormentado de las ondas; porque el viento era contrario.
25Mas á la cuarta vela de la noche, Jesús fué á ellos andando sobre la mar.
26Y los discípulos, viéndole andar sobre la mar, se turbaron, diciendo: Fantasma es. Y dieron voces de miedo.
27Mas luego Jesús les habló, diciendo: Confiad, yo soy; no tengáis miedo.
28Entonces le respondió Pedro, y dijo: Señor, si tú eres, manda que yo vaya á ti sobre las aguas.
29Y él dijo: Ven. Y descendiendo Pedro del barco, andaba sobre las aguas para ir á Jesús.
30Mas viendo el viento fuerte, tuvo miedo; y comenzándose á hundir, dió voces, diciendo: Señor, sálvame.
31Y luego Jesús, extendiendo la mano, trabó de él, y le dice: Oh hombre de poca fe, ¿por qué dudaste?
32Y como ellos entraron en el barco, sosegóse el viento.
33Entonces los que estaban en el barco, vinieron y le adoraron, diciendo: Verdaderamente eres Hijo de Dios.
34Y llegando á la otra parte, vinieron á la tierra de Genezaret.
35Y como le conocieron los hombres de aquel lugar, enviaron por toda aquella tierra alrededor, y trajeron á él todos los enfermos;
36Y le rogaban que solamente tocasen el borde de su manto; y todos los que tocaron, quedaron sanos.

1At that time Herod the tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus,
2And said unto his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.
3For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prison for Herodias’ sake, his brother Philip’s wife.
4For John said unto him, It is not lawful for thee to have her.
5And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.
6But when Herod’s birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod.
7Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she would ask.
8And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John Baptist’s head in a charger.
9And the king was sorry: nevertheless for the oath’s sake, and them which sat with him at meat, he commanded it to be given her.
10And he sent, and beheaded John in the prison.
11And his head was brought in a charger, and given to the damsel: and she brought it to her mother.
12And his disciples came, and took up the body, and buried it, and went and told Jesus.
13When Jesus heard of it, he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart: and when the people had heard thereof, they followed him on foot out of the cities.
14And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.
15And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals.
16But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat.
17And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes.
18He said, Bring them hither to me.
19And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.
20And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full.
21And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children.
22And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.
23And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.
24But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.
25And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.
26And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.
27But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.
28And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.
29And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.
30But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.
31And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
32And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.
33Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.
34And when they were gone over, they came into the land of Gennesaret.
35And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto him all that were diseased;
36And besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole.

1At that time, Herod the tetrarch heard the report concerning Jesus,
2and said to his servants, “This is John the Baptizer. He is risen from the dead. That is why these powers work in him.”
3For Herod had arrested John, bound him, and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife.
4For John said to him, “It is not lawful for you to have her.”
5When he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.
6But when Herod’s birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced among them and pleased Herod.
7Therefore he promised with an oath to give her whatever she should ask.
8She, being prompted by her mother, said, “Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptizer.”
9The king was grieved, but for the sake of his oaths and of those who sat at the table with him, he commanded it to be given,
10and he sent and beheaded John in the prison.
11His head was brought on a platter and given to the young lady; and she brought it to her mother.
12His disciples came, took the body, and buried it. Then they went and told Jesus.
13Now when Jesus heard this, he withdrew from there in a boat to a deserted place apart. When the multitudes heard it, they followed him on foot from the cities.
14Jesus went out, and he saw a great multitude. He had compassion on them and healed their sick.
15When evening had come, his disciples came to him, saying, “This place is deserted, and the hour is already late. Send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves food.”
16But Jesus said to them, “They don’t need to go away. You give them something to eat.”
17They told him, “We only have here five loaves and two fish.”
18He said, “Bring them here to me.”
19He commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass; and he took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, broke and gave the loaves to the disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitudes.
20They all ate and were filled. They took up twelve baskets full of that which remained left over from the broken pieces.
21Those who ate were about five thousand men, in addition to women and children.
22Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go ahead of him to the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.
23After he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into the mountain by himself to pray. When evening had come, he was there alone.
24But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, distressed by the waves, for the wind was contrary.
25In the fourth watch of the night, Jesus came to them, walking on the sea.
26When the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It’s a ghost!” and they cried out for fear.
27But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Cheer up! It is I! Don’t be afraid.”
28Peter answered him and said, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the waters.”
29He said, “Come!” Peter stepped down from the boat and walked on the waters to come to Jesus.
30But when he saw that the wind was strong, he was afraid, and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”
31Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand, took hold of him, and said to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?”
32When they got up into the boat, the wind ceased.
33Those who were in the boat came and worshiped him, saying, “You are truly the Son of God!”
34When they had crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret.
35When the people of that place recognized him, they sent into all that surrounding region and brought to him all who were sick;
36and they begged him that they might just touch the fringe of his garment. As many as touched it were made whole.
