Cuando la fama de Jesús llegó a oídos del rey Herodes Antipas, que gobernaba la región,
EN aquel tiempo Herodes el tetrarca oyó la fama de Jesús,

este dijo a sus hombres: «¡De seguro es Juan el Bautista que ha resucitado! ¡Por eso puede hacer milagros!».

Este Herodes era el que había prendido a Juan y lo había encadenado en la cárcel por exigencias de Herodías, que había sido esposa de su hermano Felipe.
Porque Herodes había prendido á Juan, y le había aprisionado y puesto en la cárcel, por causa de Herodías, mujer de Felipe su hermano;
For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prison for Herodias’ sake, his brother Philip’s wife.

Herodías odiaba a Juan, porque este se había atrevido a decirle al rey que era incorrecto que se casara con ella.
Porque Juan le decía: No te es lícito tenerla.

Herodes lo habría matado en seguida, pero temía que el pueblo se le rebelara, ya que la gente consideraba que Juan era profeta.

Sucedió entonces que durante la celebración del cumpleaños de Herodes, la hija de Herodías danzó para el rey, y a este le agradó tanto

Mal aconsejada por su madre, la muchacha pidió que le trajeran la cabeza de Juan el Bautista en una bandeja.

Al rey no le agradó nada aquella petición, pero como había hecho juramento y como no quería romperlo delante de sus invitados, mandó que la complacieran.
Entonces el rey se entristeció; mas por el juramento, y por los que estaban juntamente á la mesa, mandó que se le diese.
And the king was sorry: nevertheless for the oath’s sake, and them which sat with him at meat, he commanded it to be given her.

Al poco rato decapitaron a Juan en la prisión
Y enviando, degolló á Juan en la cárcel.

y le ofrecieron a la muchacha la cabeza en una bandeja, y ella se la llevó a su madre.

Después los discípulos de Juan fueron, lo enterraron y corrieron a contarle a Jesús lo sucedido.
Entonces llegaron sus discípulos, y tomaron el cuerpo, y lo enterraron; y fueron, y dieron las nuevas á Jesús.
And his disciples came, and took up the body, and buried it, and went and told Jesus.

Cuando le dieron a Jesús la noticia, él tomó una barca y se fue a un lugar desierto donde pudiera estar a solas. Pero la gente vio hacia dónde se dirigía, y muchos fueron a pie hasta allá desde las ciudades vecinas.
Y oyéndolo Jesús, se apartó de allí en un barco á un lugar descierto, apartado: y cuando las gentes lo oyeron, le siguieron á pie de las ciudades.
When Jesus heard of it, he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart: and when the people had heard thereof, they followed him on foot out of the cities.

Cuando Jesús llegó, encontró que una vasta multitud lo esperaba y, compadecido, sanó a los enfermos.
Y saliendo Jesús, vió un gran gentío, y tuvo compasión de ellos, y sanó á los que de ellos había enfermos.
And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.

Al atardecer, los discípulos se le acercaron y le dijeron: ―Ya pasó la hora de la cena y aquí en el desierto no hay nada que comer. Despide a la gente para que vaya por los pueblos a comprar alimentos.
Y cuando fué la tarde del día, se llegaron á él sus discípulos, diciendo: El lugar es desierto, y el tiempo es ya pasado: despide las gentes, para que se vayan por las aldeas, y compren para sí de comer.
And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals.
When evening had come, his disciples came to him, saying, “This place is deserted, and the hour is already late. Send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves food.”
―¿Por qué? —les respondió Jesús—. ¡Denles ustedes de comer!
Y Jesús les dijo: No tienen necesidad de irse: dadles vosotros de comer.
But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat.
But Jesus said to them, “They don’t need to go away. You give them something to eat.”
―¿Pero con qué, si no tenemos más que cinco panecillos y dos pescados?
Y ellos dijeron: No tenemos aquí sino cinco panes y dos peces.
And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes.
They told him, “We only have here five loaves and two fish.”
―¡Pues tráiganlos!
Y él les dijo: Traédmelos acá.
He said, Bring them hither to me.

La gente se fue sentando en la hierba a petición de Jesús. Él, tomando los cinco panes y los dos pescados, miró al cielo, los bendijo, y comenzó a partir los panes y a darlos a los discípulos para que los distribuyeran entre la gente.
Y mandando á las gentes recostarse sobre la hierba, tomando los cinco panes y los dos peces, alzando los ojos al cielo, bendijo, y partió y dió los panes á los discípulos, y los discípulos á las gentes.
And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.

Nadie se quedó sin comer. ¡Y hasta sobraron doce cestas de comida,

And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full.

a pesar de que había cerca de cinco mil hombres, además de las mujeres y los niños!

Mientras despedía a la multitud, Jesús les pidió a los discípulos que se subieran a la barca y se fueran al otro lado del lago.
Y luego Jesús hizo á sus discípulos entrar en el barco, é ir delante de él á la otra parte del lago, entre tanto que él despedía á las gentes.
And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.
Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go ahead of him to the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.
Al quedarse solo, Jesús subió al monte a orar. La noche sorprendió a los discípulos en medio de las aguas agitadas y luchando contra vientos contrarios.
Y despedidas las gentes, subió al monte, apartado, á orar: y como fué la tarde del día, estaba allí solo.
And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.

Y ya el barco estaba en medio de la mar, atormentado de las ondas; porque el viento era contrario.
But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.

A las tres de la mañana Jesús se les acercó, caminando sobre las aguas turbulentas.
Mas á la cuarta vela de la noche, Jesús fué á ellos andando sobre la mar.
And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.

Los discípulos, al verlo, gritaron llenos de espanto: ―¡Es un fantasma!
Y los discípulos, viéndole andar sobre la mar, se turbaron, diciendo: Fantasma es. Y dieron voces de miedo.

But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.
But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Cheer up! It is I! Don’t be afraid.”
―Señor —le respondió Pedro—, si realmente eres tú, ordena que también yo camine sobre el agua y vaya hasta donde tú estás.
Entonces le respondió Pedro, y dijo: Señor, si tú eres, manda que yo vaya á ti sobre las aguas.
And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.
Peter answered him and said, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the waters.”
―Está bien; ¡ven! Sin vacilar, Pedro salió por la borda y caminó sobre las aguas hacia Jesús.
Y él dijo: Ven. Y descendiendo Pedro del barco, andaba sobre las aguas para ir á Jesús.
And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.
He said, “Come!” Peter stepped down from the boat and walked on the waters to come to Jesus.
Pero al percatarse de lo que hacía y de la inmensidad de las olas que se le echaban encima, sintió miedo y comenzó a hundirse. ―¡Señor, sálvame! —gritó horrorizado.
Mas viendo el viento fuerte, tuvo miedo; y comenzándose á hundir, dió voces, diciendo: Señor, sálvame.
But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.
But when he saw that the wind was strong, he was afraid, and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”
Extendiendo la mano, Jesús lo sujetó y le dijo: ―¡Hombre de poca fe! ¿Por qué dudaste?
Y luego Jesús, extendiendo la mano, trabó de él, y le dice: Oh hombre de poca fe, ¿por qué dudaste?
And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand, took hold of him, and said to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?”
Cuando subieron a la barca, los vientos cesaron.
Y como ellos entraron en el barco, sosegóse el viento.
And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.
When they got up into the boat, the wind ceased.
Los otros discípulos, maravillados, se arrodillaron y le dijeron: ―¡No cabe duda de que eres el Hijo de Dios!
Entonces los que estaban en el barco, vinieron y le adoraron, diciendo: Verdaderamente eres Hijo de Dios.
Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.
Those who were in the boat came and worshiped him, saying, “You are truly the Son of God!”
Desembarcaron en Genesaret.
Y llegando á la otra parte, vinieron á la tierra de Genezaret.
And when they were gone over, they came into the land of Gennesaret.
When they had crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret.
La noticia de la llegada de Jesús se esparció rápidamente por la ciudad. Numerosas personas corrieron de un lugar a otro avisando que podían llevarle los enfermos para que los sanara.
Y como le conocieron los hombres de aquel lugar, enviaron por toda aquella tierra alrededor, y trajeron á él todos los enfermos;
And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto him all that were diseased;
When the people of that place recognized him, they sent into all that surrounding region and brought to him all who were sick;
Muchos le rogaban que les dejara tocar aunque sólo fuera el borde de su manto; y los que lo tocaban, sanaban.
Y le rogaban que solamente tocasen el borde de su manto; y todos los que tocaron, quedaron sanos.
And besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole.
and they begged him that they might just touch the fringe of his garment. As many as touched it were made whole.
