En ese tiempo, Herodes el tetrarca escuchó lo que Jesús hacía

EN aquel tiempo Herodes el tetrarca oyó la fama de Jesús,

At that time Herod the tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus,

At that time, Herod the tetrarch heard the report concerning Jesus,

y le dijo a sus siervos: “¡Él debe ser Juan el Bautista que resucitó de entre los muertos, y por eso tiene tales poderes!”

Y dijo á sus criados: Este es Juan el Bautista: él ha resucitado de los muertos, y por eso virtudes obran en él.

And said unto his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.

and said to his servants, “This is John the Baptizer. He is risen from the dead. That is why these powers work in him.”

Herodes había arrestado a Juan, lo había encadenado y lo había puesto en prisión por petición de Herodías, la esposa de Felipe, su hermano.

Porque Herodes había prendido á Juan, y le había aprisionado y puesto en la cárcel, por causa de Herodías, mujer de Felipe su hermano;

For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prison for Herodias’ sake, his brother Philip’s wife.

For Herod had arrested John, bound him, and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife.

Esto lo hicieron porque Juan le había dicho: “No es legal que te cases con ella”.

Porque Juan le decía: No te es lícito tenerla.

For John said unto him, It is not lawful for thee to have her.

For John said to him, “It is not lawful for you to have her.”

Herodes quería matar a Juan pero tenía miedo de la reacción del pueblo, pues ellos consideraban que él era un profeta.

Y quería matarle, mas temía al pueblo; porque le tenían como á profeta.

And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.

Sin embargo, el día del cumpleaños de Herodes, la hija de Herodías danzó en la fiesta, y Herodes estaba contento con ella.

Mas celebrándose el día del nacimiento de Herodes, la hija de Herodías danzó en medio, y agradó á Herodes.

But when Herod’s birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod.

But when Herod’s birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced among them and pleased Herod.

Así que le prometió con juramento darle cualquier cosa que ella deseara.

Y prometió él con juramento de darle todo lo que pidiese.

Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she would ask.

Impulsada por su madre, Herodías dijo: “Dame aquí en un plato la cabeza de Juan el Bautista”.

Y ella, instruída primero de su madre, dijo: Dame aquí en un plato la cabeza de Juan el Bautista.

And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John Baptist’s head in a charger.

She, being prompted by her mother, said, “Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptizer.”

Entonces el rey se arrepintió de la promesa que había hecho, pero por los juramentos que había hecho frente a todos los invitados a su cena, dio la orden de hacerlo.

Entonces el rey se entristeció; mas por el juramento, y por los que estaban juntamente á la mesa, mandó que se le diese.

And the king was sorry: nevertheless for the oath’s sake, and them which sat with him at meat, he commanded it to be given her.

The king was grieved, but for the sake of his oaths and of those who sat at the table with him, he commanded it to be given,

La orden fue enviada y Juan fue decapitado en la cárcel.

Y enviando, degolló á Juan en la cárcel.

And he sent, and beheaded John in the prison.

Trajeron la cabeza de Juan en un plato y le fue entregado a la joven, quien lo entregó a su madre.

Y fué traída su cabeza en un plato, y dada á la muchacha; y ella la presentó á su madre.

And his head was brought in a charger, and given to the damsel: and she brought it to her mother.

His head was brought on a platter and given to the young lady; and she brought it to her mother.

Entonces los discípulos de Juan vinieron y se llevaron el cuerpo y lo sepultaron. Luego fueron a decírselo a Jesús.

Entonces llegaron sus discípulos, y tomaron el cuerpo, y lo enterraron; y fueron, y dieron las nuevas á Jesús.

And his disciples came, and took up the body, and buried it, and went and told Jesus.

His disciples came, took the body, and buried it. Then they went and told Jesus.

Cuando Jesús escuchó la noticia, se fue lejos en una barca a un lugar tranquilo para estar solo, pero cuando la multitud supo dónde estaba, lo siguieron a pie desde las ciudades.

Y oyéndolo Jesús, se apartó de allí en un barco á un lugar descierto, apartado: y cuando las gentes lo oyeron, le siguieron á pie de las ciudades.

When Jesus heard of it, he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart: and when the people had heard thereof, they followed him on foot out of the cities.

Now when Jesus heard this, he withdrew from there in a boat to a deserted place apart. When the multitudes heard it, they followed him on foot from the cities.

Cuando Jesús salió de la barca y vio a la gran multitud, se llenó de simpatía por ellos, y sanó a los enfermos que había entre ellos.

Y saliendo Jesús, vió un gran gentío, y tuvo compasión de ellos, y sanó á los que de ellos había enfermos.

And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.

Jesus went out, and he saw a great multitude. He had compassion on them and healed their sick.

Al llegar la noche, los discípulos se le acercaron y le dijeron, “Este lugar está a millas de distancia de cualquier parte y se está haciendo tarde. Despide la multitud para que puedan irse a las aldeas y comprar comida para ellos”.

Y cuando fué la tarde del día, se llegaron á él sus discípulos, diciendo: El lugar es desierto, y el tiempo es ya pasado: despide las gentes, para que se vayan por las aldeas, y compren para sí de comer.

And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals.

When evening had come, his disciples came to him, saying, “This place is deserted, and the hour is already late. Send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves food.”

Pero Jesús les dijo: “Ellos no necesitan irse. ¡Denles ustedes de comer!”

Y Jesús les dijo: No tienen necesidad de irse: dadles vosotros de comer.

But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat.

But Jesus said to them, “They don’t need to go away. You give them something to eat.”

“Lo único que tenemos son cinco panes y un par de peces”, respondieron ellos.

Y ellos dijeron: No tenemos aquí sino cinco panes y dos peces.

And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes.

They told him, “We only have here five loaves and two fish.”

“Tráiganmelos”, dijo Jesús.

Y él les dijo: Traédmelos acá.

He said, Bring them hither to me.

He said, “Bring them here to me.”

Entonces les dijo a las multitudes que se sentaran en la hierba. Luego tomó los cinco panes y los dos peces, miró al cielo y los bendijo. Después de esto, partió los panes en pedazos y dio el pan a los discípulos, y los discípulos lo daban a las multitudes.

Y mandando á las gentes recostarse sobre la hierba, tomando los cinco panes y los dos peces, alzando los ojos al cielo, bendijo, y partió y dió los panes á los discípulos, y los discípulos á las gentes.

And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.

He commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass; and he took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, broke and gave the loaves to the disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitudes.

Todos comieron hasta que quedaron saciados. Entonces los discípulos recogieron las sobras y llenaron doce canastas.

Y comieron todos, y se hartaron; y alzaron lo que sobró de los pedazos, doce cestas llenas.

And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full.

They all ate and were filled. They took up twelve baskets full of that which remained left over from the broken pieces.

Aproximadamente cinco mil hombres comieron de aquella comida, sin contar las mujeres y los niños.

Y los que comieron fueron como cinco mil hombres, sin las mujeres y los niños.

And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children.

Those who ate were about five thousand men, in addition to women and children.

Justo después de esto, Jesús llamó a los discípulos a que subieran a la barca para cruzar al otro lado del lago, mientras despedía a la multitud.

Y luego Jesús hizo á sus discípulos entrar en el barco, é ir delante de él á la otra parte del lago, entre tanto que él despedía á las gentes.

And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.

Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go ahead of him to the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.

Después que los despidió a todos, subió a la montaña para orar. Llegó la noche y él estaba allí solo.

Y despedidas las gentes, subió al monte, apartado, á orar: y como fué la tarde del día, estaba allí solo.

And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.

After he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into the mountain by himself to pray. When evening had come, he was there alone.

En ese momento, ya la barca estaba lejos del suelo firme, las olas la arrastraban porque el viento soplaba contra ella.

Y ya el barco estaba en medio de la mar, atormentado de las ondas; porque el viento era contrario.

But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.

But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, distressed by the waves, for the wind was contrary.

Cerca de las 3 a.m. Jesús los alcanzó, caminando sobre el mar.

Mas á la cuarta vela de la noche, Jesús fué á ellos andando sobre la mar.

And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.

In the fourth watch of the night, Jesus came to them, walking on the sea.

Cuando los discípulos lo vieron caminando sobre el mar, se asustaron. Entonces gritaron con terror: “¡Es un fantasma!”

Y los discípulos, viéndole andar sobre la mar, se turbaron, diciendo: Fantasma es. Y dieron voces de miedo.

And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.

Pero inmediatamente Jesús les dijo: “¡No se preocupen, soy yo! ¡No tengan miedo!”

Mas luego Jesús les habló, diciendo: Confiad, yo soy; no tengáis miedo.

But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.

But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Cheer up! It is I! Don’t be afraid.”

“Señor, si eres tú realmente, haz que yo llegue donde tu estás, caminando también sobre el agua”, respondió Pedro.

Entonces le respondió Pedro, y dijo: Señor, si tú eres, manda que yo vaya á ti sobre las aguas.

And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.

Peter answered him and said, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the waters.”

“Ven”, le dijo Jesús. Entonces Pedro salió de la barca y caminó sobre el agua hacia Jesús.

Y él dijo: Ven. Y descendiendo Pedro del barco, andaba sobre las aguas para ir á Jesús.

And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.

He said, “Come!” Peter stepped down from the boat and walked on the waters to come to Jesus.

Pero cuando vio cuán fuerte soplaba el viento, se asustó y comenzó a hundirse. “¡Señor! ¡Sálvame!”, gritaba.

Mas viendo el viento fuerte, tuvo miedo; y comenzándose á hundir, dió voces, diciendo: Señor, sálvame.

But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.

But when he saw that the wind was strong, he was afraid, and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”

De inmediato Jesús se extendió y lo tomó, y le dijo: “Tienes tan poca confianza en mi. ¿Por qué dudaste?”

Y luego Jesús, extendiendo la mano, trabó de él, y le dice: Oh hombre de poca fe, ¿por qué dudaste?

And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand, took hold of him, and said to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?”

Y cuando entraron a la barca, el viento dejó de soplar.

Y como ellos entraron en el barco, sosegóse el viento.

And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.

When they got up into the boat, the wind ceased.

Y los que estaban en la barca lo adoraban, diciendo: “¡Realmente eres el Hijo de Dios!”

Entonces los que estaban en el barco, vinieron y le adoraron, diciendo: Verdaderamente eres Hijo de Dios.

Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.

Those who were in the boat came and worshiped him, saying, “You are truly the Son of God!”

Después de cruzar el lago, llegaron a Genesaret.

Y llegando á la otra parte, vinieron á la tierra de Genezaret.

And when they were gone over, they came into the land of Gennesaret.

When they had crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret.

Cuando la gente de allí se dio cuenta de que era Jesús, lo hicieron saber a todos en la región. Entonces trajeron ante Jesús a todos los que estaban enfermos,

Y como le conocieron los hombres de aquel lugar, enviaron por toda aquella tierra alrededor, y trajeron á él todos los enfermos;

And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto him all that were diseased;

When the people of that place recognized him, they sent into all that surrounding region and brought to him all who were sick;

y le imploraban que dejara que los enfermos tan solo tocasen su manto. Todos los que lo tocaban eran sanados.

Y le rogaban que solamente tocasen el borde de su manto; y todos los que tocaron, quedaron sanos.

And besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole.

and they begged him that they might just touch the fringe of his garment. As many as touched it were made whole.
