1Alors Jésus parla aux foules et à ses disciples,
2disant : Les scribes et les pharisiens se sont assis dans la chaire de Moïse.
3Toutes les choses donc qu’ils vous diront, faites-les et observez-les ; mais ne faites pas selon leurs œuvres, car ils disent et ne font pas ;
4mais ils lient des fardeaux pesants et difficiles à porter, et les mettent sur les épaules des hommes, mais eux, ils ne veulent pas les remuer de leur doigt.
5Et ils font toutes leurs œuvres pour être vus des hommes ; car ils élargissent leurs phylactères et donnent plus de largeur aux franges [de leurs vêtements],
6et ils aiment la première place dans les repas et les premiers sièges dans les synagogues,
7et les salutations dans les places publiques, et à être appelés par les hommes : Rabbi, Rabbi !
8Mais vous, ne soyez pas appelés : Rabbi ; car un seul est votre conducteur, [le Christ] ; et vous, vous êtes tous frères.
9Et n’appelez personne sur la terre votre père ; car un seul est votre père, celui qui est dans les cieux.
10Ne soyez pas non plus appelés conducteurs ; car un seul est votre conducteur, le Christ.
11Mais le plus grand de vous sera votre serviteur.
12Et quiconque s’élèvera sera abaissé ; et quiconque s’abaissera sera élevé.
13Mais malheur à vous, scribes et pharisiens hypocrites ! car vous fermez le royaume des cieux devant les hommes ; car vous n’entrez pas vous-mêmes, ni ne permettez à ceux qui entrent, d’entrer.

15Malheur à vous, scribes et pharisiens hypocrites ! car vous parcourez la mer et la terre pour faire un prosélyte ; et quand il l’est devenu, vous le rendez fils de la géhenne deux fois plus que vous.
16Malheur à vous, guides aveugles, qui dites : Quiconque aura juré par le temple, ce n’est rien ; mais quiconque aura juré par l’or du temple, est obligé.
17Fous et aveugles ! car lequel est le plus grand, ou l’or, ou le temple qui sanctifie l’or ?
18Et quiconque aura juré par l’autel, ce n’est rien ; mais quiconque aura juré par le don qui est dessus, est obligé.
19Aveugles ! car lequel est le plus grand, ou le don, ou l’autel qui sanctifie le don ?
20Celui donc qui jure par l’autel, jure par l’autel et par toutes les choses qui sont dessus ;
21et celui qui jure par le temple jure par le temple et par celui qui y habite ;
22et celui qui jure par le ciel, jure par le trône de Dieu et par celui qui est assis dessus.
23Malheur à vous, scribes et pharisiens hypocrites ! car vous payez la dîme de la menthe et de l’aneth et du cumin, et vous avez laissé les choses plus importantes de la loi, le jugement et la miséricorde et la fidélité ; il fallait faire ces choses-ci, et ne pas laisser celles-là.
24Guides aveugles, qui coulez le moucheron et qui avalez le chameau !
25Malheur à vous, scribes et pharisiens hypocrites ! car vous nettoyez le dehors de la coupe et du plat ; mais au-dedans, ils sont pleins de rapine et d’intempérance.
26Pharisien aveugle ! nettoie premièrement le dedans de la coupe et du plat, afin que le dehors aussi soit net.
27Malheur à vous, scribes et pharisiens hypocrites ! car vous ressemblez à des sépulcres blanchis, qui paraissent beaux au-dehors, mais qui, au-dedans, sont pleins d’ossements de morts et de toute sorte d’impureté.
28Ainsi, vous aussi, au-dehors vous paraissez justes aux hommes, mais au-dedans vous êtes pleins d’hypocrisie et d’iniquité.
29Malheur à vous, scribes et pharisiens hypocrites ! car vous bâtissez les tombeaux des prophètes, et vous ornez les sépulcres des justes,
30et vous dites : Si nous avions été dans les jours de nos pères, nous n’aurions pas pris part avec eux au sang des prophètes ;
31en sorte que vous êtes témoins contre vous-mêmes que vous êtes les fils de ceux qui ont tué les prophètes ;
32et vous, – comblez la mesure de vos pères !
33Serpents, race de vipères ! comment échapperez-vous au jugement de la géhenne ?
34C’est pourquoi voici, moi, je vous envoie des prophètes, et des sages, et des scribes ; et vous en tuerez et vous en crucifierez, et vous en fouetterez dans vos synagogues, et vous les persécuterez de ville en ville,
35en sorte que vienne sur vous tout le sang juste versé sur la terre, depuis le sang d’Abel le juste, jusqu’au sang de Zacharie, fils de Barachie, que vous avez tué entre le temple et l’autel.
36En vérité, je vous dis : toutes ces choses viendront sur cette génération.
37Jérusalem, Jérusalem, la [ville] qui tue les prophètes et qui lapide ceux qui lui sont envoyés, que de fois j’ai voulu rassembler tes enfants comme une poule rassemble ses poussins sous ses ailes, et vous ne l’avez pas voulu !
38Voici, votre maison vous est laissée déserte,
39car je vous dis : Vous ne me verrez plus désormais, jusqu’à ce que vous disiez : Béni soit celui qui vient au nom du ✶Seigneur !

1ENTONCES habló Jesús á las gentes y á sus discípulos,
2Diciendo: Sobre la cátedra de Moisés se sentaron los escribas y los Fariseos:
3Así que, todo lo que os dijeren que guardéis, guardadlo y hacedlo; mas no hagáis conforme á sus obras: porque dicen, y no hacen.
4Porque atan cargas pesadas y difíciles de llevar, y las ponen sobre los hombros de los hombres; mas ni aun con su dedo las quieren mover.
5Antes, todas sus obras hacen para ser mirados de los hombres; porque ensanchan sus filacterias, y extienden los flecos de sus mantos;
6Y aman los primeros asientos en las cenas, y las primeras sillas en las sinagogas;
7Y las salutaciones en las plazas, y ser llamados de los hombres Rabbí, Rabbí.
8Mas vosotros, no queráis ser llamados Rabbí; porque uno es vuestro Maestro, el Cristo; y todos vosotros sois hermanos.
9Y vuestro padre no llaméis á nadie en la tierra; porque uno es vuestro Padre, el cual está en los cielos.
10Ni seáis llamados maestros; porque uno es vuestro Maestro, el Cristo.
11El que es el mayor de vosotros, sea vuestro siervo.
12Porque el que se ensalzare, será humillado; y el que se humillare, será ensalzado.
13Mas ¡ay de vosotros, escribas y Fariseos, hipócritas! porque cerráis el reino de los cielos delante de los hombres; que ni vosotros entráis, ni á los que están entrando dejáis entrar.
14¡Ay de vosotros, escribas y Fariseos, hipócritas! porque coméis las casas de las viudas, y por pretexto hacéis larga oración: por esto llevaréis más grave juicio.
15¡Ay de vosotros, escribas y Fariseos, hipócritas! porque rodeáis la mar y la tierra por hacer un prosélito; y cuando fuere hecho, le hacéis hijo del infierno doble más que vosotros.
16¡Ay de vosotros, guías ciegos! que decís: Cualquiera que jurare por el templo es nada; mas cualquiera que jurare por el oro del templo, deudor es.
17¡Insensatos y ciegos! porque ¿cuál es mayor, el oro, ó el templo que santifica al oro?
18Y: Cualquiera que jurare por el altar, es nada; mas cualquiera que jurare por el presente que está sobre él, deudor es.
19¡Necios y ciegos! porque, ¿cuál es mayor, el presente, ó el altar que santifica al presente?
20Pues el que jurare por el altar, jura por él, y por todo lo que está sobre él;
21Y el que jurare por el templo, jura por él, y por Aquél que habita en él;
22Y el que jura por el cielo, jura por el trono de Dios, y por Aquél que está sentado sobre él.
23¡Ay de vosotros, escribas y Fariseos, hipócritas! porque diezmáis la menta y el eneldo y el comino, y dejasteis lo que es lo más grave de la ley, es á saber, el juicio y la misericordia y la fe: esto era menester hacer, y no dejar lo otro.
24¡Guías ciegos, que coláis el mosquito, mas tragáis el camello!
25¡Ay de vosotros, escribas y Fariseos, hipócritas! porque limpiáis lo que está de fuera del vaso y del plato; mas de dentro están llenos de robo y de injusticia.
26¡Fariseo ciego, limpia primero lo de dentro del vaso y del plato, para que también lo de fuera se haga limpio!
27¡Ay de vosotros, escribas y Fariseos, hipócritas! porque sois semejantes á sepulcros blanqueados, que de fuera, á la verdad, se muestran hermosos, mas de dentro están llenos de huesos de muertos y de toda suciedad.
28Así también vosotros de fuera, á la verdad, os mostráis justos á los hombres; mas de dentro, llenos estáis de hipocresía é iniquidad.
29¡Ay de vosotros, escribas y Fariseos, hipócritas! porque edificáis los sepulcros de los profetas, y adornáis los monumentos de los justos,
30Y decís: Si fuéramos en los días de nuestros padres, no hubiéramos sido sus compañeros en la sangre de los profetas.
31Así que, testimonio dais á vosotros mismos, que sois hijos de aquellos que mataron á los profetas.
32¡Vosotros también henchid la medida de vuestros padres!
33¡Serpientes, generación de víboras! ¿cómo evitaréis el juicio del infierno?
34Por tanto, he aquí, yo envío á vosotros profetas, y sabios, y escribas: y de ellos, á unos mataréis y crucificaréis, y á otros de ellos azotaréis en vuestras sinagogas, y perseguiréis de ciudad en ciudad:
35Para que venga sobre vosotros toda la sangre justa que se ha derramado sobre la tierra, desde la sangre de Abel el justo, hasta la sangre de Zacarías, hijo de Barachîas, al cual matasteis entre el templo y el altar.
36De cierto os digo que todo esto vendrá sobre esta generación.
37¡Jerusalem, Jerusalem, que matas á los profetas, y apedreas á los que son enviados á ti! ¡cuántas veces quise juntar tus hijos, como la gallina junta sus pollos debajo de las alas, y no quisiste!
38He aquí vuestra casa os es dejada desierta.
39Porque os digo que desde ahora no me veréis, hasta que digáis: Bendito el que viene en el nombre del Señor.

1Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples,
2Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat:
3All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.
4For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.
5But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,
6And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,
7And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.
8But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.
9And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
10Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ.
11But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.
12And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.
13But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.
14Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.
15Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.
16Woe unto you, ye blind guides, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor!
17Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold?
18And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty.
19Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift?
20Whoso therefore shall swear by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon.
21And whoso shall swear by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein.
22And he that shall swear by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon.
23Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
24Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.
25Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.
26Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.
27Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness.
28Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
29Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,
30And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.
31Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets.
32Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.
33Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?
34Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city:
35That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.
36Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.
37O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!
38Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.
39For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.

1Then Jesus spoke to the multitudes and to his disciples,
2saying, “The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat.
3All things therefore whatever they tell you to observe, observe and do, but don’t do their works; for they say, and don’t do.
4For they bind heavy burdens that are grievous to be borne, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not lift a finger to help them.
5But they do all their works to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries broad and enlarge the fringes of their garments,
6and love the place of honor at feasts, the best seats in the synagogues,
7the salutations in the marketplaces, and to be called ‘Rabbi, Rabbi’ by men.
8But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi’, for one is your teacher, the Christ, and all of you are brothers.
9Call no man on the earth your father, for one is your Father, he who is in heaven.
10Neither be called masters, for one is your master, the Christ.
11But he who is greatest among you will be your servant.
12Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.
13“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows’ houses, and as a pretense you make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.
14“But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you shut up the Kingdom of Heaven against men; for you don’t enter in yourselves, neither do you allow those who are entering in to enter.
15Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel around by sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of Gehenna as yourselves.
16“Woe to you, you blind guides, who say, ‘Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple, he is obligated.’
17You blind fools! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that sanctifies the gold?
18And, ‘Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gift that is on it, he is obligated.’
19You blind fools! For which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifies the gift?
20He therefore who swears by the altar, swears by it and by everything on it.
21He who swears by the temple, swears by it and by him who has been living in it.
22He who swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God and by him who sits on it.
23“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint, dill, and cumin, and have left undone the weightier matters of the law: justice, mercy, and faith. But you ought to have done these, and not to have left the other undone.
24You blind guides, who strain out a gnat, and swallow a camel!
25“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and unrighteousness.
26You blind Pharisee, first clean the inside of the cup and of the platter, that its outside may become clean also.
27“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitened tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but inwardly are full of dead men’s bones and of all uncleanness.
28Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
29“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you build the tombs of the prophets and decorate the tombs of the righteous,
30and say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we wouldn’t have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.’
31Therefore you testify to yourselves that you are children of those who killed the prophets.
32Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers.
33You serpents, you offspring of vipers, how will you escape the judgment of Gehenna?
34Therefore, behold, I send to you prophets, wise men, and scribes. Some of them you will kill and crucify; and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from city to city,
35that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zachariah son of Barachiah, whom you killed between the sanctuary and the altar.
36Most certainly I tell you, all these things will come upon this generation.
37“Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I would have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you would not!
38Behold, your house is left to you desolate.
39For I tell you, you will not see me from now on, until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’”
