les dijo: Los escribas, o doctores de la ley, y los fariseos, están sentados en la cátedra de Moisés:

practicad, pues, y haced todo lo que os dijeren; pero no arregléis vuestra conducta por la suya, porque ellos dicen lo que se debe hacer, y no lo hacen.
Así que, todo lo que os dijeren que guardéis, guardadlo y hacedlo; mas no hagáis conforme á sus obras: porque dicen, y no hacen.
All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.
All things therefore whatever they tell you to observe, observe and do, but don’t do their works; for they say, and don’t do.
El hecho es que van atando cargas pesadas e insoportables, y las ponen sobre los hombros de los demás cuando ellos no quieren ni aplicar la punta del dedo para moverlas.
Porque atan cargas pesadas y difíciles de llevar, y las ponen sobre los hombros de los hombres; mas ni aun con su dedo las quieren mover.
For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.

Todas sus obras las hacen con el fin de ser vistos de los hombres; por lo mismo llevan las palabras de la ley en cintas más anchas, y más largas las franjas u orlas de su vestido.
Antes, todas sus obras hacen para ser mirados de los hombres; porque ensanchan sus filacterias, y extienden los flecos de sus mantos;
But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,

Aman también los primeros asientos en los banquetes, y las primeras sillas en las sinagogas,

And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,
and love the place of honor at feasts, the best seats in the synagogues,
y ser saludados en la plaza, y que los hombres les den el título de maestros o doctores.
Y las salutaciones en las plazas, y ser llamados de los hombres Rabbí, Rabbí.
And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.
the salutations in the marketplaces, and to be called ‘Rabbi, Rabbi’ by men.
Vosotros, por el contrario, no habéis de querer ser saludados maestros, porque uno solo es vuestro Maestro, y todos vosotros sois hermanos.
Mas vosotros, no queráis ser llamados Rabbí; porque uno es vuestro Maestro, el Cristo; y todos vosotros sois hermanos.
But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.
But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi’, for one is your teacher, the Christ, and all of you are brothers.
Tampoco habéis de llamar a nadie sobre la tierra Padre vuestro; pues uno solo es vuestro verdadero Padre, el cual está en los cielos.
Y vuestro padre no llaméis á nadie en la tierra; porque uno es vuestro Padre, el cual está en los cielos.
And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.

Ni debéis preciaros de ser llamados maestros, porque el Cristo es vuestro único Maestro.

En fin, el mayor entre vosotros ha de ser ministro o criado vuestro.

Que quien se ensalzare será humillado, y quien se humillare será ensalzado.
Porque el que se ensalzare, será humillado; y el que se humillare, será ensalzado.
And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.

Pero ¡ay de vosotros, escribas y fariseos hipócritas, que cerráis el reino de los cielos a los hombres; porque ni vosotros entráis ni dejáis entrar a los que entrarían!
Mas ¡ay de vosotros, escribas y Fariseos, hipócritas! porque cerráis el reino de los cielos delante de los hombres; que ni vosotros entráis, ni á los que están entrando dejáis entrar.
But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows’ houses, and as a pretense you make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.
¡Ay de vosotros, escribas y fariseos hipócritas, que devoráis las casas de las viudas, con el pretexto de hacer largas oraciones; por eso recibiréis sentencia mucho más rigurosa!
¡Ay de vosotros, escribas y Fariseos, hipócritas! porque coméis las casas de las viudas, y por pretexto hacéis larga oración: por esto llevaréis más grave juicio.
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.
“But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you shut up the Kingdom of Heaven against men; for you don’t enter in yourselves, neither do you allow those who are entering in to enter.
¡Ay de vosotros, escribas y fariseos hipócritas, porque andáis girando por mar y tierra a trueque de convertir un gentil; y después de convertido, le hacéis con vuestro ejemplo y doctrina digno del infierno dos veces más que vosotros!
¡Ay de vosotros, escribas y Fariseos, hipócritas! porque rodeáis la mar y la tierra por hacer un prosélito; y cuando fuere hecho, le hacéis hijo del infierno doble más que vosotros.
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel around by sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of Gehenna as yourselves.
¡Ay de vosotros, guías o conductores ciegos, que decís: Jurar por el templo, no es nada, no obliga; mas quien jura por el oro del templo está obligado!
¡Ay de vosotros, guías ciegos! que decís: Cualquiera que jurare por el templo es nada; mas cualquiera que jurare por el oro del templo, deudor es.
Woe unto you, ye blind guides, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor!
“Woe to you, you blind guides, who say, ‘Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple, he is obligated.’
¡Necios y ciegos! ¿Qué vale más, el oro, o el templo que santifica al oro?
¡Insensatos y ciegos! porque ¿cuál es mayor, el oro, ó el templo que santifica al oro?
Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold?
You blind fools! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that sanctifies the gold?
Y si alguno, decís, jura por el altar, no importa; mas quien jurare por la ofrenda puesta sobre él, se hace deudor.
Y: Cualquiera que jurare por el altar, es nada; mas cualquiera que jurare por el presente que está sobre él, deudor es.
And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty.
And, ‘Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gift that is on it, he is obligated.’
¡Ciegos! ¿Qué vale más, la ofrenda, o el altar que santifica la ofrenda?
¡Necios y ciegos! porque, ¿cuál es mayor, el presente, ó el altar que santifica al presente?
Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift?
You blind fools! For which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifies the gift?
Cualquiera, pues, que jura por el altar, jura por él, y por todas las cosas que se ponen sobre él.
Pues el que jurare por el altar, jura por él, y por todo lo que está sobre él;
Whoso therefore shall swear by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon.
He therefore who swears by the altar, swears by it and by everything on it.
Y quien jura por el templo, jura por él, y por aquel Señor que le habita.
Y el que jurare por el templo, jura por él, y por Aquél que habita en él;
And whoso shall swear by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein.
He who swears by the temple, swears by it and by him who has been living in it.
Y el que jura por el cielo, jura por el trono de Dios, y por aquel que está en él sentado.
Y el que jura por el cielo, jura por el trono de Dios, y por Aquél que está sentado sobre él.
And he that shall swear by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon.
He who swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God and by him who sits on it.
¡Ay de vosotros, escribas y fariseos hipócritas, que pagáis diezmo hasta de la hierbabuena y del anís y del comino y habéis abandonado las cosas más esenciales de la ley: La justicia, la misericordia y la buena fe! Estas debierais observar, sin omitir aquéllas.
¡Ay de vosotros, escribas y Fariseos, hipócritas! porque diezmáis la menta y el eneldo y el comino, y dejasteis lo que es lo más grave de la ley, es á saber, el juicio y la misericordia y la fe: esto era menester hacer, y no dejar lo otro.
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint, dill, and cumin, and have left undone the weightier matters of the law: justice, mercy, and faith. But you ought to have done these, and not to have left the other undone.
¡Oh guías ciegos! que coláis cuando bebéis por si hay un mosquito, y os tragáis un camello.
¡Guías ciegos, que coláis el mosquito, mas tragáis el camello!
Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.
You blind guides, who strain out a gnat, and swallow a camel!
¡Ay de vosotros, escribas y fariseos hipócritas, que limpiáis por fuera la copa y el plato, y por dentro, en el corazón, estáis llenos de rapacidad e inmundicia!
¡Ay de vosotros, escribas y Fariseos, hipócritas! porque limpiáis lo que está de fuera del vaso y del plato; mas de dentro están llenos de robo y de injusticia.
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and unrighteousness.
¡Fariseo ciego!, limpia primero por dentro la copa y el plato, si quieres que lo de fuera sea limpio.
¡Fariseo ciego, limpia primero lo de dentro del vaso y del plato, para que también lo de fuera se haga limpio!
Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.
You blind Pharisee, first clean the inside of the cup and of the platter, that its outside may become clean also.
¡Ay de vosotros, escribas y fariseos hipócritas, porque sois semejantes a los sepulcros blanqueados, los cuales por afuera parecen hermosos a los hombres, mas por dentro están llenos de huesos de muertos, y de todo género de podredumbre!
¡Ay de vosotros, escribas y Fariseos, hipócritas! porque sois semejantes á sepulcros blanqueados, que de fuera, á la verdad, se muestran hermosos, mas de dentro están llenos de huesos de muertos y de toda suciedad.
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness.
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitened tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but inwardly are full of dead men’s bones and of all uncleanness.
Así también vosotros en el exterior os mostráis justos a los hombres; mas en el interior estáis llenos de hipocresía y de iniquidad.

y decís: Si hubiéramos vivido en tiempo de vuestros padres, no hubiéramos sido sus cómplices en la muerte de los profetas;
Y decís: Si fuéramos en los días de nuestros padres, no hubiéramos sido sus compañeros en la sangre de los profetas.
And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.

con lo que dais testimonio contra vosotros mismos de que sois hijos de los que mataron a los profetas.
Así que, testimonio dais á vosotros mismos, que sois hijos de aquellos que mataron á los profetas.
Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets.
Therefore you testify to yourselves that you are children of those who killed the prophets.
Acabad, pues, de llenar la medida de vuestros padres.
¡Vosotros también henchid la medida de vuestros padres!
Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.

¡Serpientes, raza de víboras! ¿Cómo será posible que evitéis el ser condenados al fuego del infierno?
¡Serpientes, generación de víboras! ¿cómo evitaréis el juicio del infierno?
Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?
You serpents, you offspring of vipers, how will you escape the judgment of Gehenna?
Porque he aquí que yo voy a enviaros profetas, y sabios, y escribas, y de ellos degollaréis a unos, crucificaréis a otros, a otros azotaréis en vuestras sinagogas, y los andaréis persiguiendo de ciudad en ciudad,
Por tanto, he aquí, yo envío á vosotros profetas, y sabios, y escribas: y de ellos, á unos mataréis y crucificaréis, y á otros de ellos azotaréis en vuestras sinagogas, y perseguiréis de ciudad en ciudad:
Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city:
Therefore, behold, I send to you prophets, wise men, and scribes. Some of them you will kill and crucify; and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from city to city,
para que recaiga sobre vosotros toda la sangre inocente derramada sobre la tierra, desde la sangre del justo Abel hasta la sangre de Zacarías, hijo de Baraquías, a quien matasteis entre el templo y el altar.

That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.

En verdad os digo, que todas estas cosas vendrán a caer sobre la generación presente.
De cierto os digo que todo esto vendrá sobre esta generación.
Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.
Most certainly I tell you, all these things will come upon this generation.
¡Jerusalén ! ¡Jerusalén ! que matas a los profetas y apedreas a los que a ti son enviados, ¿cuántas veces quise recoger a tus hijos, como la gallina recoge a sus pollitos bajo las alas, y tú no lo has querido?
¡Jerusalem, Jerusalem, que matas á los profetas, y apedreas á los que son enviados á ti! ¡cuántas veces quise juntar tus hijos, como la gallina junta sus pollos debajo de las alas, y no quisiste!
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!
“Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I would have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you would not!
He aquí que vuestra casa va a quedar desierta.
He aquí vuestra casa os es dejada desierta.
Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.
Behold, your house is left to you desolate.
Y así os digo: En breve ya no me veréis más hasta cuando reconociéndome por Mesías, digáis: Bendito sea el que viene en nombre del Señor.
Porque os digo que desde ahora no me veréis, hasta que digáis: Bendito el que viene en el nombre del Señor.
For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
For I tell you, you will not see me from now on, until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’”
