In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,
In those days, John the Baptizer came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, saying,
Diciendo: arrepiéntanse; porque el reino de los cielos está cerca.
Y diciendo: Arrepentíos, que el reino de los cielos se ha acercado.
And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
“Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!”
Porque este es aquel de quien dijo el profeta Isaías: Voz del que clama en el desierto: Prepara el camino del Señor, endereza sus caminos.
Porque éste es aquel del cual fué dicho por el profeta Isaías, que dijo: Voz de uno que clama en el desierto: Aparejad el camino del Señor, enderezad sus veredas.
For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
For this is he who was spoken of by Isaiah the prophet, saying, “The voice of one crying in the wilderness, make the way of the Lord ready! Make his paths straight!”
Ahora Juan estaba vestido de pelo de camello, con una banda de cuero a su alrededor; y su comida era chapulines y miel.
Y tenía Juan su vestido de pelos de camellos, y una cinta de cuero alrededor de sus lomos; y su comida era langostas y miel silvestre.
And the same John had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey.
Now John himself wore clothing made of camel’s hair with a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey.
Entonces salió Jerusalén,y toda Judea, y todo el pueblo que estaba cerca del Jordán;
Entonces salía á él Jerusalem, y toda Judea, y toda la provincia de alrededor del Jordán;
Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan,
Then people from Jerusalem, all of Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him.
Y ellos fueron bautizados por él en el río Jordán, diciendo abiertamente que habían pecado.
Y eran bautizados de él en el Jordán, confesando sus pecados.
And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.

Pero cuando vio que algunos de los fariseos y saduceos venían a su bautismo, les dijo: generación de serpientes, ¿Quien les enseñó de huir de la ira venidera?
Y viendo él muchos de los Fariseos y de los Saduceos, que venían á su bautismo, decíales: Generación de víboras, ¿quién os ha enseñado á huir de la ira que vendrá?
But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for his baptism, he said to them, “You offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
Pórtense de tal modo que se vea el cambio de corazón en sus obras.
Haced pues frutos dignos de arrepentimiento,
Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:
Therefore produce fruit worthy of repentance!
Y no pronuncien a sí mismos: Tenemos a Abraham por nuestro padre; porque les digo que Dios puede, hacer de estas piedras, hijos para Abraham.
Y no penséis decir dentro de vosotros: A Abraham tenemos por padre: porque yo os digo, que puede Dios despertar hijos á Abraham aun de estas piedras.
And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
Don’t think to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham for our father,’ for I tell you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.
Y aun ahora el hacha está puesta a la raíz de los árboles; cada árbol que no da buen fruto es cortado, y puesto en el fuego.
Ahora, ya también la segur está puesta á la raíz de los árboles; y todo árbol que no hace buen fruto, es cortado y echado en el fuego.
And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
Even now the ax lies at the root of the trees. Therefore every tree that doesn’t produce good fruit is cut down, and cast into the fire.
En verdad, les doy el bautismo de agua a aquellos de ustedes cuyos corazones han cambiado; pero el que viene después de mí es más poderoso que yo, cuyo calzado no soy digno de llevar: él les dará el bautismo con el Espíritu Santo y con fuego:
Yo á la verdad os bautizo en agua para arrepentimiento; mas el que viene tras mí, más poderoso es que yo; los zapatos del cual yo no soy digno de llevar; él os bautizará en Espíritu Santo y en fuego.
I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
“I indeed baptize you in water for repentance, but he who comes after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit.
En cuya mano está el instrumento con el que limpiará su grano; él pondrá el grano bueno en su granero, y la paja será quemada en el fuego que nunca se apagará.
Su aventador en su mano está, y aventará su era: y allegará su trigo en el alfolí, y quemará la paja en fuego que nunca se apagará.
Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.
His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing floor. He will gather his wheat into the barn, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.”
Entonces Jesús vino de Galilea a Juan en el Jordán, para ser bautizado por él.
Entonces Jesús vino de Galilea á Juan al Jordán, para ser bautizado de él.
Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him.
Pero Juan al principio se lo quería impedir: Soy yo el que necesito del bautismo de ti, ¿y vienes a mí?
Mas Juan lo resistía mucho, diciendo: Yo he menester ser bautizado de ti, ¿y tú vienes á mí?
But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
But John would have hindered him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and you come to me?”
Respondió Jesús y le dijo: Deja que así sea ahora, porque es justo que hagamos la justicia completa como Dios ha ordenado. Luego le dio el bautismo.
Empero respondiendo Jesús le dijo: Deja ahora; porque así nos conviene cumplir toda justicia. Entonces le dejó.
And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
But Jesus, answering, said to him, “Allow it now, for this is the fitting way for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he allowed him.
Y Jesús, habiendo sido bautizado, de inmediato subió del agua; y, al abrirse los cielos, vio al Espíritu de Dios que descendía sobre él como una paloma;
Y Jesús, después que fué bautizado, subió luego del agua; y he aquí los cielos le fueron abiertos, y vió al Espíritu de Dios que descendía como paloma, y venía sobre él.
And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
Jesus, when he was baptized, went up directly from the water: and behold, the heavens were opened to him. He saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming on him.
Y salió una voz del cielo, que decía: Este es mi Hijo amado, en quien tengo complacencia.
Y he aquí una voz de los cielos que decía: Este es mi Hijo amado, en el cual tengo contentamiento.
And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Behold, a voice out of the heavens said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”
