1In jenen Tagen aber kommt Johannes der Täufer und predigt in der Wüste von Judäa und spricht:
2Tut Buße, denn das Reich der Himmel ist nahe gekommen.
3Denn dieser ist der, von welchem durch den Propheten Jesaias geredet ist, welcher spricht: “Stimme eines Rufenden in der Wüste: Bereitet den Weg des Herrn, machet gerade seine Steige.”
4Er aber, Johannes, hatte seine Kleidung von Kamelhaaren und einen ledernen Gürtel um seine Lenden; seine Speise aber war Heuschrecken und wilder Honig.
5Da ging zu ihm hinaus Jerusalem und ganz Judäa und die ganze Umgegend des Jordan;
6und sie wurden von ihm im Jordan getauft, indem sie ihre Sünden bekannten.
7Als er aber viele der Pharisäer und Sadducäer zu seiner Taufe kommen sah, sprach er zu ihnen: Otternbrut! Wer hat euch gewiesen, dem kommenden Zorn zu entfliehen?
8Bringet nun der Buße würdige Frucht;
9und denket nicht bei euch selbst zu sagen: Wir haben Abraham zum Vater; denn ich sage euch, daß Gott dem Abraham aus diesen Steinen Kinder zu erwecken vermag.
10Schon ist aber die Axt an die Wurzel der Bäume gelegt; jeder Baum nun, der nicht gute Frucht bringt, wird abgehauen und ins Feuer geworfen.
11Ich zwar taufe euch mit Wasser zur Buße; der nach mir Kommende aber ist stärker als ich, dessen Sandalen zu tragen ich nicht würdig bin; er wird euch mit Heiligem Geiste und Feuer taufen;
12dessen Worfschaufel in seiner Hand ist, und er wird seine Tenne durch und durch reinigen und seinen Weizen in die Scheune sammeln, die Spreu aber wird er verbrennen mit unauslöschlichem Feuer.
13Dann kommt Jesus aus Galiläa an den Jordan zu Johannes, um von ihm getauft zu werden.
14Johannes aber wehrte ihm und sprach: Ich habe nötig von dir getauft zu werden, und du kommst zu mir?
15Jesus aber antwortete und sprach zu ihm: Laß es jetzt so sein; denn also gebührt es uns, alle Gerechtigkeit zu erfüllen. Dann läßt er es ihm zu.
16Und als Jesus getauft war, stieg er alsbald von dem Wasser herauf; und siehe, die Himmel wurden ihm aufgetan, und er sah den Geist Gottes wie eine Taube herniederfahren und auf ihn kommen.
17Und siehe, eine Stimme kommt aus den Himmeln, welche spricht: Dieser ist mein geliebter Sohn, an welchem ich Wohlgefallen gefunden habe.

1Y EN aquellos días vino Juan el Bautista predicando en el desierto de Judea,
2Y diciendo: Arrepentíos, que el reino de los cielos se ha acercado.
3Porque éste es aquel del cual fué dicho por el profeta Isaías, que dijo: Voz de uno que clama en el desierto: Aparejad el camino del Señor, enderezad sus veredas.
4Y tenía Juan su vestido de pelos de camellos, y una cinta de cuero alrededor de sus lomos; y su comida era langostas y miel silvestre.
5Entonces salía á él Jerusalem, y toda Judea, y toda la provincia de alrededor del Jordán;
6Y eran bautizados de él en el Jordán, confesando sus pecados.
7Y viendo él muchos de los Fariseos y de los Saduceos, que venían á su bautismo, decíales: Generación de víboras, ¿quién os ha enseñado á huir de la ira que vendrá?
8Haced pues frutos dignos de arrepentimiento,
9Y no penséis decir dentro de vosotros: A Abraham tenemos por padre: porque yo os digo, que puede Dios despertar hijos á Abraham aun de estas piedras.
10Ahora, ya también la segur está puesta á la raíz de los árboles; y todo árbol que no hace buen fruto, es cortado y echado en el fuego.
11Yo á la verdad os bautizo en agua para arrepentimiento; mas el que viene tras mí, más poderoso es que yo; los zapatos del cual yo no soy digno de llevar; él os bautizará en Espíritu Santo y en fuego.
12Su aventador en su mano está, y aventará su era: y allegará su trigo en el alfolí, y quemará la paja en fuego que nunca se apagará.
13Entonces Jesús vino de Galilea á Juan al Jordán, para ser bautizado de él.
14Mas Juan lo resistía mucho, diciendo: Yo he menester ser bautizado de ti, ¿y tú vienes á mí?
15Empero respondiendo Jesús le dijo: Deja ahora; porque así nos conviene cumplir toda justicia. Entonces le dejó.
16Y Jesús, después que fué bautizado, subió luego del agua; y he aquí los cielos le fueron abiertos, y vió al Espíritu de Dios que descendía como paloma, y venía sobre él.
17Y he aquí una voz de los cielos que decía: Este es mi Hijo amado, en el cual tengo contentamiento.

1In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,
2And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
3For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
4And the same John had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey.
5Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan,
6And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.
7But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
8Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:
9And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
10And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
11I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
12Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.
13Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
14But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
15And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
16And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
17And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

1In those days, John the Baptizer came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, saying,
2“Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!”
3For this is he who was spoken of by Isaiah the prophet, saying, “The voice of one crying in the wilderness, make the way of the Lord ready! Make his paths straight!”
4Now John himself wore clothing made of camel’s hair with a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey.
5Then people from Jerusalem, all of Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him.
6They were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.
7But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for his baptism, he said to them, “You offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
8Therefore produce fruit worthy of repentance!
9Don’t think to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham for our father,’ for I tell you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.
10Even now the ax lies at the root of the trees. Therefore every tree that doesn’t produce good fruit is cut down, and cast into the fire.
11“I indeed baptize you in water for repentance, but he who comes after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit.
12His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing floor. He will gather his wheat into the barn, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.”
13Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him.
14But John would have hindered him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and you come to me?”
15But Jesus, answering, said to him, “Allow it now, for this is the fitting way for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he allowed him.
16Jesus, when he was baptized, went up directly from the water: and behold, the heavens were opened to him. He saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming on him.
17Behold, a voice out of the heavens said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”
