Now in those days John the Baptist came preaching in the Judean wilderness
Y EN aquellos días vino Juan el Bautista predicando en el desierto de Judea,
In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,
In those days, John the Baptizer came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, saying,
and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near!”
Y diciendo: Arrepentíos, que el reino de los cielos se ha acercado.
And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
“Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!”
For this is the one who was spoken about by the prophet Isaiah, saying, “The voice of one crying out in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.’ ”
Porque éste es aquel del cual fué dicho por el profeta Isaías, que dijo: Voz de uno que clama en el desierto: Aparejad el camino del Señor, enderezad sus veredas.
For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
For this is he who was spoken of by Isaiah the prophet, saying, “The voice of one crying in the wilderness, make the way of the Lord ready! Make his paths straight!”
Now John himself had his clothing made from camel’s hair and a belt made of leather around his waist, and his food was locusts and wild honey.
Y tenía Juan su vestido de pelos de camellos, y una cinta de cuero alrededor de sus lomos; y su comida era langostas y miel silvestre.
And the same John had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey.
Now John himself wore clothing made of camel’s hair with a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey.
Then Jerusalem and all Judea and all the district around the Jordan were going out to him,
Entonces salía á él Jerusalem, y toda Judea, y toda la provincia de alrededor del Jordán;

and they were being baptized by him in the Jordan River as they confessed their sins.

Y viendo él muchos de los Fariseos y de los Saduceos, que venían á su bautismo, decíales: Generación de víboras, ¿quién os ha enseñado á huir de la ira que vendrá?
But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for his baptism, he said to them, “You offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
Therefore produce fruit worthy of repentance!
Haced pues frutos dignos de arrepentimiento,
Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:

And do not think to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children for Abraham from these stones!
Y no penséis decir dentro de vosotros: A Abraham tenemos por padre: porque yo os digo, que puede Dios despertar hijos á Abraham aun de estas piedras.
And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
Don’t think to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham for our father,’ for I tell you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.
Already now the ax is positioned at the root of the trees; therefore every tree not producing good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
Ahora, ya también la segur está puesta á la raíz de los árboles; y todo árbol que no hace buen fruto, es cortado y echado en el fuego.
And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
Even now the ax lies at the root of the trees. Therefore every tree that doesn’t produce good fruit is cut down, and cast into the fire.
I baptize you with water for repentance, but the one who comes after me is more powerful than I am, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
Yo á la verdad os bautizo en agua para arrepentimiento; mas el que viene tras mí, más poderoso es que yo; los zapatos del cual yo no soy digno de llevar; él os bautizará en Espíritu Santo y en fuego.
I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
“I indeed baptize you in water for repentance, but he who comes after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit.
His winnowing shovel is in his hand, and he will clean out his threshing floor and will gather his wheat into the storehouse, but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”
Su aventador en su mano está, y aventará su era: y allegará su trigo en el alfolí, y quemará la paja en fuego que nunca se apagará.
Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.
His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing floor. He will gather his wheat into the barn, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.”
Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John in order to be baptized by him.
Entonces Jesús vino de Galilea á Juan al Jordán, para ser bautizado de él.
Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.

But John tried to prevent him, saying, “⌞I need⌟ to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?”
Mas Juan lo resistía mucho, diciendo: Yo he menester ser bautizado de ti, ¿y tú vienes á mí?
But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
But John would have hindered him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and you come to me?”
But Jesus answered and said to him, “Permit it now, for in this way it is right for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he permitted him.
Empero respondiendo Jesús le dijo: Deja ahora; porque así nos conviene cumplir toda justicia. Entonces le dejó.
And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
But Jesus, answering, said to him, “Allow it now, for this is the fitting way for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he allowed him.
Now after he was baptized, Jesus immediately went up from the water, and behold, the heavens opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove coming upon him.
Y Jesús, después que fué bautizado, subió luego del agua; y he aquí los cielos le fueron abiertos, y vió al Espíritu de Dios que descendía como paloma, y venía sobre él.
And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
Jesus, when he was baptized, went up directly from the water: and behold, the heavens were opened to him. He saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming on him.
And behold, there was a voice from heaven saying, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”
Y he aquí una voz de los cielos que decía: Este es mi Hijo amado, en el cual tengo contentamiento.
And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Behold, a voice out of the heavens said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”
