En aquellos días, Juan el Bautista comenzó a predicar en el desierto de Judea.
Y EN aquellos días vino Juan el Bautista predicando en el desierto de Judea,
In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,
In those days, John the Baptizer came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, saying,
Este era su mensaje: «Arrepiéntanse de sus pecados porque el reino de los cielos se ha acercado».
Y diciendo: Arrepentíos, que el reino de los cielos se ha acercado.
And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
“Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!”
Siglos atrás, el profeta Isaías había hablado de Juan y lo describió así: «Una voz clama en el desierto: “Prepárenle el camino al Señor; que nada le estorbe a su paso”».
Porque éste es aquel del cual fué dicho por el profeta Isaías, que dijo: Voz de uno que clama en el desierto: Aparejad el camino del Señor, enderezad sus veredas.
For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
For this is he who was spoken of by Isaiah the prophet, saying, “The voice of one crying in the wilderness, make the way of the Lord ready! Make his paths straight!”
Juan usaba ropa hecha de pelo de camello y se la sujetaba con un cinto de cuero. Su alimentación consistía en langostas del desierto y miel silvestre.
Y tenía Juan su vestido de pelos de camellos, y una cinta de cuero alrededor de sus lomos; y su comida era langostas y miel silvestre.
And the same John had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey.
Now John himself wore clothing made of camel’s hair with a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey.
Toda la gente de Jerusalén, de todo el valle del Jordán y de toda Judea, iba al desierto a escucharlo.
Entonces salía á él Jerusalem, y toda Judea, y toda la provincia de alrededor del Jordán;
Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan,
Then people from Jerusalem, all of Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him.
A los que reconocían que eran pecadores, él los bautizaba en el río Jordán.
Y eran bautizados de él en el Jordán, confesando sus pecados.
And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.
They were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.
Y cuando vio que entre los que iban a bautizarse había muchos fariseos y saduceos, les dijo: «Crías de víboras, ¿quién les dijo que así podrán escapar de la ira de Dios que vendrá sobre ustedes?
Y viendo él muchos de los Fariseos y de los Saduceos, que venían á su bautismo, decíales: Generación de víboras, ¿quién os ha enseñado á huir de la ira que vendrá?
But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for his baptism, he said to them, “You offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
Demuestren, antes de bautizarse, que están arrepentidos.
Haced pues frutos dignos de arrepentimiento,
Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:
Therefore produce fruit worthy of repentance!
No crean que les basta con decir que son descendientes de Abraham, porque Dios puede sacar hijos de Abraham aun de estas piedras.
Y no penséis decir dentro de vosotros: A Abraham tenemos por padre: porque yo os digo, que puede Dios despertar hijos á Abraham aun de estas piedras.
And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
Don’t think to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham for our father,’ for I tell you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.
El hacha está lista para talar los árboles que no den fruto y arrojarlos al fuego.
Ahora, ya también la segur está puesta á la raíz de los árboles; y todo árbol que no hace buen fruto, es cortado y echado en el fuego.
And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
Even now the ax lies at the root of the trees. Therefore every tree that doesn’t produce good fruit is cut down, and cast into the fire.
»Yo bautizo con agua a los que se arrepienten de sus pecados; pero después de mí vendrá alguien que es más poderoso que yo y él bautizará con el Espíritu Santo y fuego. ¡Yo ni siquiera soy digno de desatar sus zapatos!
Yo á la verdad os bautizo en agua para arrepentimiento; mas el que viene tras mí, más poderoso es que yo; los zapatos del cual yo no soy digno de llevar; él os bautizará en Espíritu Santo y en fuego.
I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
“I indeed baptize you in water for repentance, but he who comes after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit.
Él está listo para separar la paja del trigo; quemará la paja en un fuego que nunca se apaga y guardará el trigo en su granero».
Su aventador en su mano está, y aventará su era: y allegará su trigo en el alfolí, y quemará la paja en fuego que nunca se apagará.
Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.
His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing floor. He will gather his wheat into the barn, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.”
Jesús fue desde Galilea a donde estaba Juan en el río Jordán, para que lo bautizara.
Entonces Jesús vino de Galilea á Juan al Jordán, para ser bautizado de él.
Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him.
Pero Juan no quería hacerlo. ―¿Cómo va a ser eso? —le decía Juan a Jesús—. ¡Tú eres el que debería bautizarme a mí!
Mas Juan lo resistía mucho, diciendo: Yo he menester ser bautizado de ti, ¿y tú vienes á mí?
But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
But John would have hindered him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and you come to me?”
―Juan —le respondió Jesús—, bautízame, porque nos conviene cumplir lo que Dios manda. Y Juan lo bautizó.
Empero respondiendo Jesús le dijo: Deja ahora; porque así nos conviene cumplir toda justicia. Entonces le dejó.
And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
But Jesus, answering, said to him, “Allow it now, for this is the fitting way for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he allowed him.
Cuando Jesús salía de las aguas del bautismo, los cielos se abrieron y vio que el Espíritu de Dios descendía sobre él en forma de paloma;
Y Jesús, después que fué bautizado, subió luego del agua; y he aquí los cielos le fueron abiertos, y vió al Espíritu de Dios que descendía como paloma, y venía sobre él.
And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
Jesus, when he was baptized, went up directly from the water: and behold, the heavens were opened to him. He saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming on him.
y una voz de los cielos dijo: «Este es mi Hijo amado, y en él me complazco».
Y he aquí una voz de los cielos que decía: Este es mi Hijo amado, en el cual tengo contentamiento.
And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Behold, a voice out of the heavens said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”
