1Tiempo después, apareció en escena Juan el Bautista, predicando en el desierto de Judea:
2“Arrepiéntanse, porque el reino de los cielos está cerca”.
3Él era de quien hablaba el profeta Isaías cuando dijo: “Se oye una voz que clama en el desierto: ‘preparen el camino del Señor. Enderecen la senda para él’”.
4Juan tenía ropas hechas con pelo de camello, con un cinturón de cuero puesto en su cintura. Su alimento era langostas y miel silvestre.
5La gente venía a él desde Jerusalén, de toda Judea y de toda la región del Jordán,
6y eran bautizados en el río Jordán, reconociendo públicamente sus pecados.
7Pero cuando Juan vio que muchos de los fariseos y saduceos venían a ser bautizados, les dijo: “¡Camada de víboras! ¿Quién les advirtió que huyeran del juicio que vendrá?
8Muestren a través de sus actos que están verdaderamente arrepentidos,
9y no se jacten de decirse a ustedes mismos: ‘Abraham es nuestro padre’. Les digo que Dios podría convertir estas piedras en hijos de Abraham.
10De hecho, el hacha está lista para derribar los árboles. Todo árbol que no produce buen fruto, será derribado y lanzado al fuego.
11“Sí, yo los bautizo en agua para mostrar arrepentimiento, pero después de mi viene uno que es más grande que yo. Yo no soy siquiera digno de quitar sus sandalias. Él los bautizará con el Espíritu Santo y con fuego.
12Él tiene el aventador listo en su mano. Limpiará la era y almacenará el trigo en el granero, pero quemará la paja en el fuego que no se puede apagar”.
13Luego Jesús vino desde Galilea hasta el Río Jordán para ser bautizado por Juan.
14Pero Juan trató de hacerlo cambiar de opinión, diciendo, “Yo soy quien necesito ser bautizado por ti, ¿y tu vienes a mí para que yo te bautice?”
15“Por favor, hazlo, porque es bueno que hagamos lo que Dios dice que es correcto”, le dijo Jesús. Entonces Juan estuvo de acuerdo en hacerlo.
16Justo después de haber sido bautizado, Jesús salió del agua. Los cielos se abrieron y él vio al Espíritu de Dios como una paloma que descendía, posándose sobre él.
17Entonces una voz desde el cielo dijo: “este es mi hijo a quien amo, el cual me complace”.

1Y EN aquellos días vino Juan el Bautista predicando en el desierto de Judea,
2Y diciendo: Arrepentíos, que el reino de los cielos se ha acercado.
3Porque éste es aquel del cual fué dicho por el profeta Isaías, que dijo: Voz de uno que clama en el desierto: Aparejad el camino del Señor, enderezad sus veredas.
4Y tenía Juan su vestido de pelos de camellos, y una cinta de cuero alrededor de sus lomos; y su comida era langostas y miel silvestre.
5Entonces salía á él Jerusalem, y toda Judea, y toda la provincia de alrededor del Jordán;
6Y eran bautizados de él en el Jordán, confesando sus pecados.
7Y viendo él muchos de los Fariseos y de los Saduceos, que venían á su bautismo, decíales: Generación de víboras, ¿quién os ha enseñado á huir de la ira que vendrá?
8Haced pues frutos dignos de arrepentimiento,
9Y no penséis decir dentro de vosotros: A Abraham tenemos por padre: porque yo os digo, que puede Dios despertar hijos á Abraham aun de estas piedras.
10Ahora, ya también la segur está puesta á la raíz de los árboles; y todo árbol que no hace buen fruto, es cortado y echado en el fuego.
11Yo á la verdad os bautizo en agua para arrepentimiento; mas el que viene tras mí, más poderoso es que yo; los zapatos del cual yo no soy digno de llevar; él os bautizará en Espíritu Santo y en fuego.
12Su aventador en su mano está, y aventará su era: y allegará su trigo en el alfolí, y quemará la paja en fuego que nunca se apagará.
13Entonces Jesús vino de Galilea á Juan al Jordán, para ser bautizado de él.
14Mas Juan lo resistía mucho, diciendo: Yo he menester ser bautizado de ti, ¿y tú vienes á mí?
15Empero respondiendo Jesús le dijo: Deja ahora; porque así nos conviene cumplir toda justicia. Entonces le dejó.
16Y Jesús, después que fué bautizado, subió luego del agua; y he aquí los cielos le fueron abiertos, y vió al Espíritu de Dios que descendía como paloma, y venía sobre él.
17Y he aquí una voz de los cielos que decía: Este es mi Hijo amado, en el cual tengo contentamiento.

1In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,
2And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
3For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
4And the same John had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey.
5Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan,
6And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.
7But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
8Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:
9And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
10And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
11I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
12Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.
13Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
14But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
15And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
16And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
17And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

1In those days, John the Baptizer came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, saying,
2“Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!”
3For this is he who was spoken of by Isaiah the prophet, saying, “The voice of one crying in the wilderness, make the way of the Lord ready! Make his paths straight!”
4Now John himself wore clothing made of camel’s hair with a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey.
5Then people from Jerusalem, all of Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him.
6They were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.
7But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for his baptism, he said to them, “You offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
8Therefore produce fruit worthy of repentance!
9Don’t think to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham for our father,’ for I tell you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.
10Even now the ax lies at the root of the trees. Therefore every tree that doesn’t produce good fruit is cut down, and cast into the fire.
11“I indeed baptize you in water for repentance, but he who comes after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit.
12His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing floor. He will gather his wheat into the barn, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.”
13Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him.
14But John would have hindered him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and you come to me?”
15But Jesus, answering, said to him, “Allow it now, for this is the fitting way for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he allowed him.
16Jesus, when he was baptized, went up directly from the water: and behold, the heavens were opened to him. He saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming on him.
17Behold, a voice out of the heavens said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”
